chapter 4 of Becoming Remus this Christmas is up now!

In which Remus opens many presents and Sirius opens a few.

It will probably be a few days now before the next chapter’s out. I was cranking it out trying to make sure this particular chapter was up on Christmas day, and now that it is I’m going to take a tiny break :)

Saying that Dumbledore had to trick, force, coerce, manipulate, or anything else along those lines to get the marauders to join the Order of the Phoenix hugely takes away the marauders powerful desire to fight fascism, and their disdain for Voldemort’s rhetoric and those that followed it.

Those are core tenants of who they are.

They, and the rest of the Order, signed up as adults to fight an ideological war that would see the people they loved and cared about killed or, frankly, worse.

literally doesn’t matter what your point is when you said it! using disability as a reason to prove someone’s unattractive is in fact ableist, and your entire post is about how he’s a loser so yeah it is related. you’re right, people are weird about young people being physically disabled sometimes, including you right now with this post…this post isn’t calling out ableism, it’s including disability in a list of reasons most people don’t find remus attractive and/or reasons he’s a loser

maybe you could try reflecting for two seconds instead of getting defensive when someone calls you out ✌🏽

Remus: excuses himself from a party after 10 minutes bc he wants to go knit. Wearing the most heinous jumper even your grandfather would shy away from. Blacks out after one (1) beer. Dies if someone makes eye contact with him. Sits awkwardly in the corner trying not to cry when he has to stay in a party for too long (fails every time). Bones pop 87 times every time he stands up. Cannot sit on the floor or he will need to be picked up bc his back is so bad. Asks Sirius + James + Peter to kiss his booboos bc his mummy used to do it and it made it feel better. Always has at least 3 books on him but needs Sirius to carry them bc he’s too weak. Hates smoking bc he’s worried about cancer. Very awkward. Loser.

ooh this is a fun one. i LOVE getting comments and positive feedback!! ao3 comments truly make my day, whether they’re short or long, as do excited replies/reblogs on here.

constructive/negative feedback i don’t enjoy unsolicited, which i think is true for most people haha, but when it’s coming from beta readers, friends i’ve asked etc im usually alright with handling it. depends on how personal the writing is and stuff though! sometimes it’s hard!

probably the kinds of comments that mean the most to me are ones from people who are disabled, or trans, or asexual, and relate to the representation i write in my fics. the rep is authentic to my own experience but it’s really comforting to hear that other people from the community also feel that it’s authentic, plus it’s nice to know i’m not alone when sharing certain things. like with brtc, i was super nervous about the trans rep because that remus doesn’t really align with a more common or normalized trans experience. he does align with mine, though, so it’s really lovely to hear from other trans people who also relate to that. i also get super excited when people point out little details or specific lines they enjoyed and stuff like that, but truly i get unbelievably excited at every single comment

Hi yes can any hp fans who are trans friendly and anti jkr give me advice on how to deal with the insane hate us hp fans get on here for simply just being fans of hp..you know the posts and type of comments I mean. I have moral ocd and it makes me feel like the worst person ever 🙃

i don't really think i have a right answer for this, honestly. When you still like hp and interact with it you have to come to terms with the fact that you are adding to the general harm jkr is causing, because whenever you talk about it, even when it is in the context of fandom, you give her attention and might consequently make more people join the fandom who don't yet know about what a terrible person she is and therefore don't have the same understanding that you cannot profit her in any way whatsoever. No buying merch, no streaming the films, no going to the studios, no seeing cursed child, no watching the reboot. I used to think that we're at a point of saturation where everyone already knows about harry potter anyway so me talking about it won't give her more attention, but the fact alone that i've had a couple comments telling me that one of my fics was the introduction to the fandom for them tells me differently.

My general approach is that i make everything about my fandom interaction as easy to block out for other people as possible. On tumblr this means every time i mention any harry potter related things i tag it 'hp', if it mentions jkr i also tag her, so people can easily blacklist these tags if they want to avoid seeing the content at all. I've made new social media accounts to talk about hp because i didn't want to subject my friends, many of whom i know do not want to have anything to do with hp, to seeing anything about it. I don't talk about hp with non-fandom friends without heavily checking the vibe first and even then i attach a bunch of disclaimers to make absolutely certain they understand that i interact with this fandom as harm reducing as i can and very much do not support jkr, despite me myself being trans and that therefore probably being obvious.

You can be trans or be an ally and still like hp. Liking hp doesn't make you an inherently bad person. But you have to be aware that whenever someone looks at you and they see that you like hp, they don't have the knowledge that you are a safe person. Their first reaction will most likely be to assume that you support jkr and her views and are therefore not a safe person for queer people to be around. I myself have that same thought whenever I see people in public wearing harry potter merch. If you wear hp merch in public i will instantly mistrust you, despite very clearly also being in the fandom, because you're carrying hp outside of the confined space of a fandom in which people know not to support her.

You deal with the hate you get by acknowledging that these people have a reason for mistrusting and hating you, and by presenting yourself in a way that clarifies your stance regarding jkr while giving them the possibility to distance themselves from any mentions of her or harry potter. You deal with the hate by acknowledging that while initially it is not your guilt and not your harm, feeling some guilt over it is needed regardless, because you are, inadvertently, adding to the harm. You deal with the hate by supporting trans people, by informing yourself about what jkr is doing and what impact she has, by counteracting that impact as much as you can and by talking to people and raising awareness whenever you're able.

omg HELLO this is such an exciting ask, ty for sending it!! i alwaysss have more wolfstarbucks thoughts so here’s some more i can think of rn!

in a situation where prongsfoot are dating and both want remus i think it’s very much just flirting with him really unsubtly, getting increasingly obvious as he continues to be oblivious. and normally remus would be really uncomfortable with his best friend who is dating his other best friend flirting with him! i’ve seen fics where they jointly decide they want remus and start flirting with him separately and personally i can’t see it. rem would be sooo uncomfortable and feel so guilty. but in my mind S & J decide to do it together. like they’re not flirting with him if they’re not both there. they’re cuddled up on the sofa with a movie when remus gets home from a late shift (or prefect rounds), and they invite him to cuddle (they even put him in the middle). he gets a new really well-fitting shirt and james tells him how good he looks while sirius is leaning on J’s shoulder, smiling and nodding. sirius offers him a massage when his joints/muscles are aching and remus is a bit hesitant but james is right there and seems fine with it?? they end up both helping tbh. sirius’s hands get tired bc literally remus’s entire body hurts so he’s like “james? you mind?” and james finishes up. anyways yeah both of them just flirting and taking care of him and being really affectionate but clearly doing it together so rem isn’t uncomfortable so much as obliviously confused. (he decides they’re just worried about him being lonely bc he’s been single for a long time and now S & J are dating so they’re trying to make sure he feels loved)

in a situation where none of them are dating before though, i think it either starts out as remus and his two boyfriends who are not dating each other (and then fall for each other) OR all three of them deciding to date each other at once, getting together neatly as a throuple. and either way in these scenarios i think remus would have a hard time adjusting to having two boyfriends. im picturing like, him being super anxious about going on a date or being physically affectionate with one of them while the other isn’t there. he kisses S or J once and the other walks in and he’s like,,acting like he got caught cheating basically and they’re like “babe. remus. please, calm down. did you forget we all agreed to this????” (he didn’t forget, he’s just nervous. he wants everything to be equal and them to know he loves them both the same and all that. they’re like “please calm down baby we know that, we don’t have to count dates and kisses though.”)

remus has like 3 stuffed animals that live on his bed at all times and gives them each a goodnight kiss every night and the first night they all spend together he’s embarrassed so he’s not gonna do it but he does end up doing it just out of habit/reflex and then he turns bright red and is sooo embarrassed but his bfs obviously find it extremely cute (and they obviously also demand goodnight kisses every night they’re together but that’s irrelevant to the stuffies)

they honestly genuinely like really cliche romantic dates, like going out for a nice dinner and/or a movie, but they hate that they’re never perceived as being in a romantic relationship since there’s three of them. when people make assumptions remus gets kinda flustered and doesn’t rly say anything, just complete silence, james sort of awkwardly fumbles out some sort of polite agreement without really directly agreeing, and sirius corrects them loudly and proudly, which embarrasses remus but he also loves it

they’ve made a lot of clumsy attempts at slow dancing around the dorm/apartment/wherever we’re imagining they live LMAO usually with remus squished in the middle, one of the others in front and the other behind him, it’s kind of just like a double hug really—remus hugs whoever’s in front of him and the other person just plasters themself to his back too. anyways it looks a bit silly but they’ve actually gotten the hang of all the feet and limbs and can do it without falling over now!

i saw a post somewhere and i cannot remember who or what platform but it was R & J braiding Sirius’s hair together, one on each side, and silently competing to make them neater and y e s i concur

when remus is upset and retreats into himself sirius just wants to baby him and let him do it and just give him cuddles and chocolate like “it’s okay baby you don’t have to talk about it” so james has to be the sensible one and gently coax remus into opening up a bit.

when sirius is upset and starts lashing out james just wants to snap back at him, and remus has to shut up his desire to hide away and be the sensible one to show sirius a bit of love and be patient.

when james is upset and tries to make jokes out of it to cover it up remus wants to smack him a bit (even though he himself is even WORSE at talking about feelings) so sirius is the one who has to indulge his jokes for a bit before pressing him a little to be honest and sincere

if it’s rainy none of those babies are leaving their house absolutely not they will spend the entire day in a cuddle pile on the bed with blankets and pillows and hot chocolate and tv. any excuse to just stay in and cuddle their boyfriends

james leaves little encouraging notes everywhere for both of them—in remus’s notebooks, in sirius’s bike helmet, on their nightstands, etc. and so they start doing it back to him too. all three of them have sappy collections of notes from the others saved up

adding onto sirius always being the middle spoon, if R & J are sitting somewhere together and S walks in he is 100% shoving his ass right in between them. one time he came home and they were kissing on the couch and he ran right over and squished himself in between them and when they looked down at him like “wtf” he just looked up with a smile

they have matching necklaces. james has a moon and a star, sirius has a moon and a sun, remus has a star and a sun.

they all refuse to get married until they can legally have a three way marriage. they’re not going to leave one of them out like that wtf (even if remus insists he’d be okay if they got married. even if he wasn’t lying about it, which he is).
