Remus loves Sirius’ antics. He loves it when Sirius is loud and when he demands the attention of everyone in the room. He loves when Sirius disrupts the class to annoy the teachers. Remus loves that Sirius is so obsessed with his hair, because honestly so is he. Remus loves listening to Sirius rant. He loves seeing Sirius run around the halls with James, causing trouble. Remus loves how Sirius’ eyes light up during a prank.

Remus loves how different the two of them are.

Hi yes can any hp fans who are trans friendly and anti jkr give me advice on how to deal with the insane hate us hp fans get on here for simply just being fans of hp..you know the posts and type of comments I mean. I have moral ocd and it makes me feel like the worst person ever 🙃

i don't really think i have a right answer for this, honestly. When you still like hp and interact with it you have to come to terms with the fact that you are adding to the general harm jkr is causing, because whenever you talk about it, even when it is in the context of fandom, you give her attention and might consequently make more people join the fandom who don't yet know about what a terrible person she is and therefore don't have the same understanding that you cannot profit her in any way whatsoever. No buying merch, no streaming the films, no going to the studios, no seeing cursed child, no watching the reboot. I used to think that we're at a point of saturation where everyone already knows about harry potter anyway so me talking about it won't give her more attention, but the fact alone that i've had a couple comments telling me that one of my fics was the introduction to the fandom for them tells me differently.

My general approach is that i make everything about my fandom interaction as easy to block out for other people as possible. On tumblr this means every time i mention any harry potter related things i tag it 'hp', if it mentions jkr i also tag her, so people can easily blacklist these tags if they want to avoid seeing the content at all. I've made new social media accounts to talk about hp because i didn't want to subject my friends, many of whom i know do not want to have anything to do with hp, to seeing anything about it. I don't talk about hp with non-fandom friends without heavily checking the vibe first and even then i attach a bunch of disclaimers to make absolutely certain they understand that i interact with this fandom as harm reducing as i can and very much do not support jkr, despite me myself being trans and that therefore probably being obvious.

You can be trans or be an ally and still like hp. Liking hp doesn't make you an inherently bad person. But you have to be aware that whenever someone looks at you and they see that you like hp, they don't have the knowledge that you are a safe person. Their first reaction will most likely be to assume that you support jkr and her views and are therefore not a safe person for queer people to be around. I myself have that same thought whenever I see people in public wearing harry potter merch. If you wear hp merch in public i will instantly mistrust you, despite very clearly also being in the fandom, because you're carrying hp outside of the confined space of a fandom in which people know not to support her.

You deal with the hate you get by acknowledging that these people have a reason for mistrusting and hating you, and by presenting yourself in a way that clarifies your stance regarding jkr while giving them the possibility to distance themselves from any mentions of her or harry potter. You deal with the hate by acknowledging that while initially it is not your guilt and not your harm, feeling some guilt over it is needed regardless, because you are, inadvertently, adding to the harm. You deal with the hate by supporting trans people, by informing yourself about what jkr is doing and what impact she has, by counteracting that impact as much as you can and by talking to people and raising awareness whenever you're able.

🐌 What is one of your smallest writing goals? To be honest I’m not sure that any of my goals count as small? I guess small is a bit subjective haha but probably my smallest is to finish writing + posting BRTC! It’s smallest in terms of difficulty/anxiety inducement at least lol but also not a huge amount of writing I think! Probably three more chapters max? This could change though.

✨What's one area of your writing that you think needs the least amount of improvement? This one’s a struggle honestly, not because I’m being mean to myself but because I just don’t…think about it? I don’t analyze the specific flaws and strengths of my own writing I don’t know. My go-to answer is usually grammar but that feels like cheating so, hmm…looking back at my doc I think I quite like how I put concepts like certain trans feelings and disability feelings into words. I always thought it would be hard to explain these things, and it is a bit, but I’m usually pretty happy with how I end up doing it :)

🥳 How are you going to celebrate when you achieve one of your writing goals? This is…another hard one LMAO because truthfully I don’t usually do any sort of major celebrations. So my answer for this is a bit unexciting but probably some combination of screaming in your DMs, eating chocolate/cookies, and/or buying something inexpensive but still ill-advised

remus has full body chronic pain, keeps dislocating his hip and shoulders, uses a forearm crutch, has chronic fatigue, gets chronic migraines, cracks all his bones (it freaks out the marauders and he finds it hilarious), regularly takes pain meds, has days he struggles to get out of bed, has the worst brain fog ever, random flare ups + activity flare ups

OK, fandom, here’s a thing about Remus Lupin we don’t hear nearly enough about: sometimes, being a werewolf wasn’t an unrelenting cycle of angst.  Sure there was a lot of suckage, but sometimes there was fun.

‘And they didn’t desert me at all.  Instead they did something for me that would make my transformations not only bearable, but the best times of my life.  They became Animagi.’

Where are you all hiding the fic and arts when teenage Remus gets to actually enjoy some full moon high-jinks?  There’s more misery and moping around the hospital wing than you can shake a stick at and, I get that, I really do, we all love a bit of h/c, we hurt the ones we love the most and all that malarkey.  But surely there’s room for more?  The roaming the school grounds, running about the Forest, wild animal adventures?  Most times there’s not much willingness to even admit that Remus ever had any fun, instead just a grudging acceptance that his Animagi friends made full moon a bit less bad, maybe even tolerable.  but Remus very clearly says otherwise.  To repeat:

‘The best times of my life.’

Look, it’s not like Remus didn’t have enough misery, can we not let the poor bastard enjoy the one bit of fun canon gives him?  Oh, and while we’re on the subject, he goes on:

‘And there were near misses, many of them.  We laughed about them afterwards.’

Think about that for a minute.  Remus came close to attacking people during the full moon on multiple occasions, but far from being consumed with self-loathing and regret, managed to laugh about it afterwards.  I mean, he had a bit of a conscience about it, but:

‘I always managed to forget my guilty feelings every time we sat down to plan our next month’s adventure.’

Sure, he knew what he was doing was dangerous, and sometimes he felt a bit bad about it.  But it didn’t stop him doing it, didn’t stop him laughing off the dangers, didn’t stop him regarding the full moon as an “adventure.” 

There will always be fans of long-suffering Remus and, hey, knock yourselves out if that’s fun for you.  But, oh, what I wouldn’t give for a little more of canon Remus who is no sort of soft doughy cinnamon roll but is a bit of a thrill-seeker, not entirely honest, and definitely capable of having fun.
