Capsaicin Cookie groans as he stretches his muscles, sweat dripping from his forehead. His bare chest was glistening with sweat, a sign that he’d been training for the upcoming Triple Cone Cup event. He was selected as Scovillia’s champion once again, so of course he had to endure the most laborious of training in order to become the strongest! Huffing a sigh, he reaches for a towel to wipe the sweat from his face.
Deciding to take a quick break to regain energy, he collapses onto a nearby bench, the sun painting his sweat covered skin in a bright light. He closes his eyes, allowing himself to bask in the sunlight for a few moments before he returns to his arduous training. After a few moments, he begins to carefully wipe his face, almost ready to get back to training, when he’s suddenly startled by a knock at the door.
“Hun? You alright in there? Can I come in?”
Capsaicin’s ears perk at the sound of your muffled yet gentle voice. A voice that was so indescribably serene and mellifluous. His face brightens as a giddy feeling bubbles inside him. Your appearance at his training session was certainly unexpected, but it was most definitely something welcome.
“Yeah! Come in!” He shouts back at you, perhaps a bit too much excitement creeping into his voice.
The door slowly creaked open, and he watched as you hesitantly peek in for a brief moment. Your eyes meet, and you can see a bright sparkle in his eyes. Pushing the door open, you flash a smile and wave at him, a small bottle of water held in one of your hands.
“How’s your training going?” You ask him as you sit next to him, “I hope you’re not pushing yourself too hard.”
Nodding with a smile at your reply, he takes the water bottle from your hands, thanking you before swiftly chugging its contents. Droplets of water dribble down his chin and onto his chest.
“Haa! Thanks for that, baby!” He tosses the water bottle back to you, wiping his face. He stands, stretching for a brief moment before turning to address you once more, “I’m gonna keep going. Thanks for being here!”
Capsaicin’s bright smile is blinding, and you can’t help but smile back at him. Giggling, you decide to stay and watch him train. What was the harm in it? You couldn’t just come in and immediately leave. Sitting back on the bench, you watch as he continues to train vigorously, the sun hitting him perfectly, almost making him look majestic. Smiling at the thought, your eyes begin to wander a bit.
Your eyes first land on his toned chest for a brief moment, but you immediately reprimand yourself and shift your gaze. Face flushed, your eyes stop at his wrists. An involuntary hum escapes your lips.
“Hey, you took your cuffs off?”
“Huh?”
He stops and turns to you, his face twisted into an expression of confusion.
“Your cuffs.”
You signal at his wrists, which are in fact missing the cuffs that he so often wore. Capsaicin coughs for a moment, averting his eyes as he rubbed his wrist sheepishly.
“Oh, uh, yeah! I- uh, didn’t want them to get in the way. Sorry.”
You narrow your eyes. “What are you apologizing for?”
He flushes slightly. “My scars are a little unsightly-”
“I think your scars look cool.”
Capsaicin pauses. His face remains unmoving, and it’s almost like you can hear the gears turning in his head. “Huh? What?” His embarrassment rises further when he sees you giggle at him.
You stand, walking over to his much taller form. When you stop in front of him, he gulps quietly. He watches as you hold your hand out, and say to him, almost in a whisper, “Can you give me your hand?”
Without words, he hesitantly puts his hand on yours. His heart flutters at the sight of you gently wrapping your much smaller hands in his. You carefully intertwine your fingers with his, suppressing a smile as you watch him stare at your hands in awe.
“Your scars aren’t ugly, okay? Listen to me.” Your stern but soft tone surprises him, and he stiffens. “Don’t be ashamed of your scars, hun. They aren’t ugly or unsightly. They make you look tough! You’re strong, because of your scars, love. There’s nothing wrong with it. I still love you all the same, hm? I’m never going to think less of you just because you’ve got scars.”
He swallows. The words get caught in his throat, but you don’t mind. Your thumb lightly brushes over his healed scars, and he shudders. Your touch was so gentle, so loving. Capsaicin selfishly wanted more of it.
“Sorry, does that hurt?” You quietly ask.
He gives you no verbal response, only shaking his head quietly.
A smile forms on your lips as you land a small kiss on his knuckles. “Then remember what I said, okay?”
His face heats up, hotter than any of the lava he’d ever created. Tears gather in his eyes, but he refuses to let them fall. He simply mutters to you, “…Thank you.”
“Of course, hun. How about you take another break? I know you just did, but I think you deserve this. We can go out to your favorite restaurant.” You offer, sending him another sweet smile. His stomach flips at the sight.
He doesn’t reply to you. Instead, he stares at you expectantly. “…Can I have another kiss?” He asks, nervously gesturing towards his cheek.
You playfully snort, lightly punching his shoulder. “Not when you’re this sweaty, you dork.”
Finally, he laughs the boisterous laugh you so desperately wanted to hear. He flexes his muscles, mostly in an attempt to show off to you. It works. You giggle at his antics.
“I am pretty tough though, aren’t I?” He tries to sound confident, but there's a slight hint of uncertainty in his voice. He slings his arm over your shoulder, his signature toothy grin present. He looks over at you, eyes bright, but you can see right through him.
“Of course you are.” You assure him, gently kissing his wrist. He tenses, but doesn’t pull away. Instead, he pulls you closer, and you giggle as he plants a kiss on your temple. When he pulls back, his grin is still shining bright.
“Thanks for the offer though, babe! But I've gotta get some more training done! I’ve gotta win this cup!” He releases you, stretching his arm. “You being here is enough to encourage me to keep going! I’ll win this for us, hun! I promise you, I'll bring back the trophy! A-And we can have a nice date afterwards!!”
You let out a hearty laugh, and his heart jumps in joy. “If you insist, tough guy! You better keep your word, though!”
“I will, that's a promise!” He laughs loudly, his face holding a large amount of love and admiration for you. He wasn’t going to let his past hold him back again. For you, and even his friends at the other schools, he’ll keep moving forward. With a newfound determination, the fire in him blazes to life. He takes a stance.
He's not about to back away from a promise now.
