Please, Say Something

It had been a terribly long day for the both of you. You were pretty sure you’d failed spectacularly at your Astronomy exam, and Ominis had lost his wand for the better part of an hour. After an incredibly distressing period of helping him look for it, while he sat nearly in tears at the prospect of losing his one way to “see,” you both needed a while to relax.

You sat beside him in the Room of Requirement, squeezing his shoulder reassuringly. The wand incident had only just concluded about half an hour ago, and Ominis was still very much on edge.

He had his wand squeezed so tight in his hand, his knuckles were practically white. “Thank you,” he said softly. “I don’t know what I would have done without you.”

You smile at him, hoping he can at least sense the gentle expression on your face. “Of course, Ominis. I’ll always be here to help.”

Ominis smiled slightly, his wide, unseeing blue eyes almost looking at you. “I mean it. I…” He took a deep breath, steeling himself. “I have no idea what I would do without you, MC. Ever since that first day, I’ve always known there was something special about you.” He cleared his throat. A slight blush coloured his cheeks. “MC, I think… I’ve fallen in love with you..”

He stiffened a bit as your hand dropped from his shoulder. Your jaw dropped slightly at the confession. Your mind was racing; you had no idea what to say.

“MC?” Ominis said tentatively after several moments of silence. “MC, I… just, please… say something.”

You finally snapped out of your daze, and laughed lightly, leaning in to kiss his cheek.

“Ominis… I love you, too.”

Pov: Sebastian walks in on Ominis changing and *snap* he realized "why am I nervous seeing that?" Fits the whole: Ominis falls first, and Sebastian falls harder because it hits him in the face like an angry person, lmao 🫶🏻

Sebastian only needed to grab his textbook. It was a simple mission really… Enter, Retrieve, Exit. Nothing extreme. His mind was already working out the quickest way to write twelve inches on the uses of dittany that he pushed open the dormitory door without a second thought.

Then, out of the corner of his eye, he caught a flash of light.

No, not light…

Skin.

Smooth, ivory skin kissed with constellations.

Ominis stood before his wardrobe, shirt hung loose on his shoulders, fabric slipping down his arms like a waterfall. The slope of his collar bones, the subtle curve of his spine, the way the soft lamp light traced the lines of his body as if wishing to admire…

Sebastian forgot how to breathe. His pulse stuttered, tripped over his heart and then took off in a reckless sprint. An unbearable heat curled low in his chest, twisting and licking up his chest like the embers of a fire.

Something inside him cracked, fissured, shattered…

Oh…

Oh…

A supernova exploded in his mind, a meteor striking the earth so violently it sent his entire world spinning off its axis.

He had seen his best friend a thousand times, shared a room with him for the better part of six years. Laughed, fought, bled with him.

And yet… never like this.

Never with an aching, breathless awe. A dizzying, terrifying want that clawed at his ribs and made his knees weak.

Ominis turned slightly, tilting his head towards the open door. “Sebastian?”

Sebastian swallowed thickly around a lump in his throat, the shape of words he dare not share out loud. Wiping sweaty palms along his trousers, all he could muster was a faint breath of acknowledgement.

“Are you alright?” Ominis quirked a brow.

No.

No, he was not alright.

Everything he knew was crumbling.

Crumbling to reveal that without a shred of doubt…

Sebastian Sallow was falling.

He was falling for Ominis Gaunt.

And there was no stopping it.
