h oly fucking sHIT-
Warning for flooding and homelesness and things that come with it, with a bit of climate change.
Soo, for context, I'm brazilian, and I live in the far south. Yes, the far south that is *currently in the middle of flooding*
Whole islands are currently under. Our local lake, which at most reaches 2.5m above sea level, is reaching heights of 5. whole. meters over it. That's a whole double the usual. Walls made to prevent the usual flooding aren't working, that's how serious the situation is. And with how the weather's going? Chances are it'll only increase.
Luckily, end of last year my family and I moved to a higher area, going from an apartment to a house. You might think we're safe, right?
Wrong.
A large quantity of water pumps are out of business due to the flooding risks. Our water pump is scheduled to be out for the next 5-10 days, then there's a cleaning process that'll take about 3 more days, and even *then* we won't get water for a while more because we live high up (thank goodness the prioritizaion is on the lower houses that are at higher risks). We're rationing water for two weeks. Two whole weeks. Possibly more!
We're stuck using the lowest bathroom possible in our house, using pool water to flush as to not use up our own. We bough a whole bunch of filled clean water bottles so we don't need to use our built-in filter. Baths are baby napkins just on armpits and necessities- washing hair only when very dirty and with sink water. Our showers don't work anymore because of the pump situation, so we'll use sink water. We boight plastic dishes to not need to wash them, as well as having boughr instant foods that are easy to make, only lunches being well-made. Worst comes to worst we might even filter our pool water.
And even so, we're living more comfortably than most.
People are losing homes quick. They're evacuating and leaving all necessities as high up as possible, and abandoning homes, living with relatives and friends. Some don't even get that luxury, losing everything and stuck under stadiums and schools.
All because of what? Because some greedy companies are destroying the environment for some paper with made-up value? Because we keep destroying nature? Because we keep flattening mounts that kept the rivers in place and the mountains that stop heavy rains from filling then up too much?
This world is fucking bullshit.
We're ready to take in 5 people to let them live under our roof. We're separating clothes we don't like or are too small to donate to evacuation places. My brother and mom are volunteering to help out- the former also reaching out to close friends to offer a place.
We're doing all we can to help out people.
If you're living in southern Brazil, out of risk zones, please. Do the same.
Even if you just donate to a place in need. Even if you just offer a close friend to live with you. Do it. Don't stand around and do nothing. This is something you can do without fully leaving your comfort zone.
And if you know someone in here that you can't physically rqach, even just words of encouragement can be enough to help them keep going.
And if you're in one of the shitty situations, don't be afraid to help others out. Make life a little easier for you and for whoever you're with.
Don't do nothing, do something
Because this isn't a matter of "can", it's a matter of "will".
And this matters to any situation, anywhere.
Know someone who was kicked out of home for whatever reason? Do something.
Live in an area outside of risk zone but still close to any disastrous event? Do something.
Have a friend who just lost something/someone very dear or important to them? Do something.
Just know that you can make someone's life just a little bit better no matter the situation. It's just a matter of will, the only can is the way you do it, even if it's just as a shoulder to cry on.
Don't give up hope, and don’t let anyone else give up hope.
can agree the pun was amazing
Literally the first thought I had was käänteiskentauri
Me: *zoned out* Me: *zones back in* My brother: "DON'T PUT YOUR FINGER IN IT JUST GOT OUT!" Me: *internally wheezing
remember when u were like 11 and the only thing u wanted was a lava lamp
X took over city/region/country/whatever, group of surviving heroes, vigilantes and villains who aren't in X's group are working together to fight against X. B villain (which is surprisingly glue to the team and a great asset/leader) manages to take out X, at the cost of being hit by a weapon of X's and getting killed by it,,,or is it? Turns out, X's weapon is an age-regressor, and now B went from (insert adult age) to (insert teenage/child age) with few/no memories of their life after the point they regressed to.
