Hey, I made a survey for the recent writing project I am working on. If you want, feel free to fill it out. The questions may feel a bit random at times, but I promise they are relevant. And may have something to do with kissable object head people.

I hope you don't mind me reblogging, but I love this addition.
As a college writing major, I am imploring some of you to understand seeing a work in a different way than the author intended is not "media illiteracy". This is not a church and the writer is not the pope.
I am gently encouraging y'all, if you think this, to look into literary theories, because then you will realize there are multiple valid ways to study and interpret a work. And guess what? Some of these theories do not explore the author's original intent at all, but rather let the work speak for itself. That is a valid way of reading a work just as much as researching the writer's intent or background. I am especially concerned about this attitude I am seeing in the younger generation that there is only one way to interpret a piece of art. That is not the beauty of art.
I am especially tired of seeing posts like this about the classics, usually by individuals who make jokes about how people who don't view a work the way the author intended "need to go back to high school". I do not blame them for this ignorance, but I am begging them to learn about media analysis outside of the high school classroom, because high school only teaches you one way to approach stories.
Also, nothing makes me roll my eyes more than when people yell "media illiteracy" towards someone interpreting a work differently due to their unique experiences. The amount of singlets who yell "media illiteracy" when I, a plural person, try to explain my discomfort towards most possession stories, is so annoying. Like, it isn't an attack, it's sharing a different view point based on my unique perspectives as a plural person. This is a great opportunity to learn about experiences other than your own, not to trounce people.
I love how on Tumblr, "media literacy" has become "Um, just because someone writes about this doesn't mean they're endorsing this. I hate all these media puritans ruining everything."
I'm sad to inform you that knowing when and whether an author is endorsing something, implying something, saying something, is also part of media literacy. Knowing when they are doing this and when they're not is part of media literacy. Assuming that no author has ever endorsed a bad thing is how you fall for proper gander. It's not media literacy to always assume that nobody ever has agreed with the morally reprehensible ideas in their work.
Sometimes, authors are endorsing something, and you need to be aware when that happens, and you also need to be aware when you're doing it as an author. All media isn't horny dubcon fanfic where you and the author know it's problematic IRL but you get off to it in the privacy of your brain. Sometimes very smart people can convince you of something that'll hurt others in the real world. Sometimes very dumb people will romanticize something without realizing they're doing it and you'll be caught up in it without realizing that you are.
Being aware of this is also media literacy. Being aware of the narrative tools used to affect your thinking is media literacy. Deciding on your own whether you agree with an author or not is media literacy. Enjoying characters doing bad things and allowing authors to create flawed or cruel characters for the sake of a story is perfectly fine, but it is not the same as being media literate. Being smug about how you never think an author has bad intentions tells me you're edgy, not that you're media literate. You can't use one rule to apply to all media. That's not how media literacy works. Sorry! Sorry! Sorry! Aheem heem. Anyway.

Your poetry is always so gorgeous. The imagery in this one sent shivers down my spine.
I miss when you were in the margins
of my class notes
Your name and mine
held together by a heart and a plus sign
I'd flip through the pages
and know that you were waiting for me
at the end of the hour
with your hands full of wilting wildflowers
you decided to pick up on your morning run
because you didn't know the difference
between alive and dying
Petals fell to the floor
during the trip from your hands to mine
and walking proves to hurt them further
as they shake and quiver in my hands with each step
losing a little part of themselves
the further we get
By the time we get home
there are no more petals left to save
and the stems don't stop their drooping
as we put them into the vase
Water doesn't help them
doesn't give them time
they just brown and fall further
but you take no notice
as you put them on a shrine
with other wilted wildflowers
If this isn't a mood idk what is lol.
I can normally picture my characters in my head really easily, but the villain of my current WIP was eluding me until today. I kept getting stuck trying to describe him. Some brainstorming with my writing group finally gave me an idea of what he should look like. Unfortunately, now that I can see him, I am, predictably, in love with him
I made the community. Let me know if you want an invite!

Hi peeps! As I work on Every Hero Needs a Villain, do y'all want me to make the community for it so you can see some funny behind the scenes stuff and potentially certain bios as I make them? You can also make suggestions for stuff there if you want. Trying to encourage myself to complete them.

My name is Eric. I'm 39. I don't have much to say about me. I am working on an unnamed WIP right now.
Set in the late 1880s where the Union lost the American Civil War, where the Confederacy crumbled within five years and now North America is covered with a bunch of feuding warring states. A 24-year-old woman, unusual in many ways, works as a bounty hunter until a chance encounter with a slightly older woman and with the notorious James Rogers Gang.
For now, I will only share one chapter as I want to try and trad-publish or self-publish it once it is done. :3
Chapter One - Five Dead In Two Minutes
A girl the age of 12 moves with her family to Mount Desert Island, Maine from Oregon. Where she meets an odd but friendly girl named Rowan, who declares there's old magic in the woods, and what's with the door underneath the stairs?
Chapter One - A New, Weird Home
Chapter Two - Once Upon A Cat
Chapter Three - A Bully This Way Comes
Chapter Four - An Unfamiliar, Familiar Place
Chapter Five - What's In The Woods?
The Act
