Hey guys, I know I don’t post much in this blog anymore and I am not exactly sure who will see this but I’m posting this because today is the Philippine Presidential Elections and, just like what other people here are already saying, we’re fighting for our lives right now.

We are fighting against the return of dictatorship in the country. We are fighting against the continuation of corruption and injustice. We are fighting for a better future. We are fighting, so that we may finally know peace.

Today, multiple issues regarding the elections have come up. Vote-Counting Machines (VCMs) “malfunctioning”, SD cards missing, people getting PAID for voting for the dictator’s son and his party, and more. Even the commission in charge of ENSURING FAIR ELECTIONS is failing to fully understand the grasp said issues, wasting people’s time and votes.

If you do find this post and read it, all I ask is that you share the news about the Philippines. Anything about today (May 9, 2022), about Halalan 2022/PH Elections 2022, about BBM and the Marcos Family, about Leni Robredo, Kiko Pangilinan, Chel Diokno and the rest of Robredo’s senatorial slate (+ Neri Colmenares),

and if this inspires you to learn everything else, then please do.

We are asking for your help, not in votes, but in sharing what is happening here to the rest of the world. Whatever happens, whatever the results are, we want the whole world to see what is going on. (But thank you to the foreign news outlets who have been speaking on this).

All the Filipinos are asking for is a fair government, where lives are recognized and uplifted. We cannot be kept in the dark again, we have had enough.

And if we need to meet in EDSA once again, then so be it.

And Sara Duterte is winning vice pres

Ferdinand is banned from europe and the usa, Faked his degrees, His father lead one of the worst regimes in Philippine history rivaling that of the Spanish and Japanese and hes just an asshole overall

And Sara literally has no experience other than serving as mayor for a small town for ONE term

She wants to instate mandatory military service

If he wins it will most likely cause a domino effect of american and european brands to pull out of the country since the Marcoses are banned there

She was a social climber that used the country's citizens and resources as her playthings leaving death, destruction and crime in her wake.

Her ambition to be a royal rivaled that of Marie antoinette from her lavish spendings of the country's funds and her ignorance of social and political issues

The OG, the one that’s been there from the beginning for me. Always and forever my number one favourite movie and my number one obsession. I was two when it came out and it has been in my life since then. I always say that Newsies raised me and influenced me all of my life and it’s true. I think I would be a different person if it wasn’t in my life. I will be forever grateful to this movie for always being there. Here’s to 30 years of Carrying the banner!! 🗞❤️

I never could have imagined how much this show would change my life when I watched it for the first time. This show has helped me get through some of the hardest moments in my life and is my comfort show.

Pardon me if this has been asked before but I was wondering if you had any information on the popular past times that the Newsies liked to partake in? I heard from a friend that they enjoyed watching vaudeville performances but I couldn’t find a source on that.

Yes vaudeville was very popular among the newsies! According to Children of the City: At Work and at Play by David Nasaw the boys used to sit in the cheap seats in front of the stage and throw things at people they didn’t like. This meant that actors would often play to the boys in the cheap seats rather than playing to the boxes as they do now because the children could destroy a whole performance if they didn’t like you.

Other common pastimes were penny arcades, nickelodeon theatres, and gambling games like craps. Boys staying at the lodging house also had access to a games room featuring dominoes, cards, and a billiards table.

If you’re interested in learning more, I recommend Children of the City very highly. There is also a great chapter about newsboy culture in Darkness and Daylight, which, while definitely biassed to encourage sympathy for the charity that published it, is still a great primary resource on New York in the 1890s.

Unpopular opinion the 92sies Carrying the Banner final is really good. The way it combines tunes from all the other hits in the movie (EX: Seize the day and Santa Fe) and blends them into a triumphant end of movie song is amazing.
