Reblog if you were the kid in class who didn’t stand for The Pledge of Allegiance.
(Trigger Warning: rape) Well, I couldn’t find any statistics on what percent of interactions in which a woman turns down sexual advances by a man end in violence. However, I did find a study on what percent of men are rapists. (http://www.davidlisak.com/wp-content/uploads/pdf/RepeatRapeinUndetectedRapists.pdf) It found that (roughly) 6.3% of men have raped or attempted to rape someone. The majority of those had done so more than once, and averaged 5.8 times. The rapists had also committed an average of roughly 10 “acts of interpersonal violence, including rape, battery, and child physical and sexual abuse.” 6.3% might not seem like a lot, but it’s definitely enough to justify trust issues.
too true.
How come we never learned about this in History? (Probably for the same reason my Language Arts teacher tried to convince us Sappho was straight...)
Do you guys understand that when Hephaistion (the best friend and lover of Alexander the Great) died, Alexander cried for two days and gave him one of the most expensive funerals in history and had the sacred flame at the temple extinguished (which was usually only done for a king). And then he went to the oracle and asked if Hephaistion could be worshipped as a god, and the oracle said no, and Alexander said screw you we’re gonna worship him anyway. And then Alexander himself died like a month later, just as he’d said he would if he ever lost Hephaistion. Literally, you can’t write a better love story than that, so don’t tell me that kind of devotion only happens in the fictional world.
Care to justify that comment?
I do not understand this “male privilege" bullshit.
What. Fucking. Privileges. Do. Men. Have.???????
Name them. I swear, I challenge you to name these “male privileges" and be able to prove them.
Come on, I fucking dare you.
Name them!
Okay guys this is kinda important. GQ just came in the mail and for the first time in a long while it had a really important article…
I just sat here for like the last half hour reading this and I’m incredibly appalled at our justice system in regards to the military. The article interviews about 23 men who have all been sexually assaulted in some branch of the military. The PTSD from sexual assault in the military is more prevalent than PTSD from combat…
If you have a chance I suggest reading this article…and the title is a quote that one of the victims Doctor told him…
I believe that most people on this thread are upset at the doctors, not at other people on the thread (apart from the one exchange at the top). I hope that I don’t have to explain why it matters for doctors to believe patients about their symptoms?
Also, this isn’t about doctors giving patients the diagnosis that they “want”. This is about doctors giving patients an accurate diagnosis of what they actually have.
Finally, I know ally-falls-downstairs in real life and I can vouch for their credibility.
being a female means needing to see 10 different doctors to get a proper diagnosis because they always think you’re exaggerating and/or lying
I would totally attend a Utopian service.

This is fascinating. I kind of wonder why these don’t tend to get as much coverage as murders by men. My first instinct is gender stereotyping, but I’m not sure if the answer is that simple.
I will note that most of these are not related to rejecting romantic advances, which was the point made by the original poster; nevertheless, that doesn’t mean they aren’t a problem.
shocking
the administration has determined that the designation of “sex” in Title IX protections also includes gender identity, which means that if public schools don’t comply with these protections, they lose federal funding
transgender students are only required to have their parent or guardian contact the school district to notify them that their identity differs from what is previously on record
these students do not need to provide a medical diagnosis, identification documents, or any other information regarding their transition
transgender students must be accommodated even when it makes others students uncomfortable
transgender students can be offered the use of single stall restrooms, but if other students are not required to use them, then they aren’t required, either, and specifically mentions that if a student is uncomfortable sharing a restroom with a transgender person they can be offered a single stall restroom
these protections also cover correct pronoun use as well, along with other guidelines
