Girl dad! Joker I literally need more bat!reader turned mini joker, Harley getting a daughter and they have fun little mother daughter playdates blowing all of Jokers moneyđđđđđđđ
hihi ty for the ask !!!
okay so I would like to think contrary to everyone - i think Joker before what's happened to him - back when he was a normal functioning human being was actually thinking about having a kid.
Like he genuinely wanted a kid with someone he loved and appreciated- just wanted to make another being genuinely happy . Then tragedy strikes and he turns into Joker and for a good few years - his morality changes drastically and the thought of a kid is pretty far fetched.
So when he sees this little girl in the the rain crying her heart of because someone ran over her doll - he feels an ache in his cold heart and it scares him at first - he literally avoids her for a good while but then one day he sees her fall while sliding fown a lil slide.
And he just rush over to pick her up and from then on she became his daughter.
Him and Harley loves her- I mean how could they not ? All they ever wanted was a chance at domestic life after everything they've been through - contrary to popular opinions I don't think they'd involve her in their criminal endeavors .
I feel like they'd hold onto her as their ine chance at feeling normal so they just have someone trusted watch over her til they get back. Notably they don't do alot of messes that could land them in jail because after all they have a little girl to go home too.
I feel like Joker would read her a bedtime story and Harley would wear matching pj's with her. Like I said before in a precious post , Harley is that mom he's on the pda board and goes to every meeting and Joker is a big sponsor of the school.
Hey they might kot be good role models and they're both equally insane and fucked up but they make good parents.
hc! jackie has a crush on you and she doesn't hide it well.
jackie taylor x fem!reader
summary: jackie having a painfully obvious crush on you while you remain completely oblivious.
warnings: characters are aged up, oblivious reader, jackie being possessive, jealous, clingy and over-the-top affectionate, jackie being awkwardly sweet, jackie as the most dramatic lesbian alive, not proofread.
a.n: oh hi! its been a long time...
jackie taylor, the golden girl of wiskayok high, was not known for being subtle. like, at all.
when she developed a crush on you? game over. everyone could tell. the team knew. her parents probably knew. heck, even the cafeteria staff were rooting for her. everyone... except you.
she would insist on walking you to every single class, even if her next one was on the other side of the building. "it's fine, I need the cardio," sheâd say, hair bouncing as she kept pace with you.
whenever you sat together at lunch, jackie always had some excuse to sit as close as humanly possible. your thighs would brush, and sheâd casually drape an arm behind you on the bench like this was some romcom where she was the suave lead.
her attempts at giving you compliments were both endearing and slightly chaotic. âthat shirt looks really good on you! not that it wouldnât look good offâ wait, no, not like that!â cue her face turning an alarming shade of red as she stammered, completely flustered.
jackie was all about grand gestures. she'd bring you your favorite snacks without asking, even if it meant "borrowing" them from her teammates' lockers. r she'd "accidentally" sign you up as her partner for every school project ever. that was probably just her 'marking territory'.
her jealousy was comically bad. if someone so much as looked at you for longer than five seconds, jackie would swoop in like a hawk, throwing an arm around your shoulders and flashing her biggest, most obviously fake smile. "Oh hey, letâs go! you promised to help me with... uh, math homework!â (she had a solid A in math, by the way. that girl is smart.)
sometimes, her crush got the better of her, and sheâd trip over her own words. âso... you wanna make out? i mean go outâ I mean, hang out? like friends! or more than friends! orâ" youâd just laugh it off, assuming she was being her usual goofy self, while she tried not to combust on the spot.
her teammates would not let her hear the end of it. âjust tell her already!â van would groan during practice. âsheâs not that clueless.â jackie would shoot them a death glare because, in her mind, this was a delicate, slow-burn process. it's all about romance!
she wasnât above using petnames to test the waters. âhey, sweetheart, pass me that notebook?â sheâd grin when you handed it over, your only response being a confused, âuh, sure?â her heart would leap even at that small acknowledgment.
one time, during a party, someone asked if you two were dating. jackie nearly choked on her drink while you laughed and said, âno way, weâre just friends!â jackieâs forced laugh after that? absolutely tragic.
despite all her awkwardness and dramatic flair, jackie genuinely adored you. sheâd memorize all your quirks, from the way you scrunched your nose when you were deep in thought to how your laugh sounded when you found something genuinely funny.
if anyone asked her why she liked you so much, sheâd have an entire list ready: you were smart, kind, gorgeous, and somehow still completely oblivious to the fact that she was hopelessly in love with you.
spoiler alert: eventually, her feelings would spill out in the most unplanned, dramatic way possible. probably during an argument where sheâd blurt out, âbecause I like you, okay?!â only to immediately cover her mouth in horror.
and even though youâd be stunned into silence for a moment, when you finally smiled and said, âyou shouldâve just said so sooner,â all her embarrassment would melt away in an instant.
because, honestly? it was all worth it for you.
after the crash, jackieâs crush intensifies tenfold. with no distractions like school or soccer, all her attention is on you, which becomes very obvious to everyone.
jackie insists on sticking close to you at all times. âwe need to stay in pairs, itâs safer that way,â sheâd argue, even though itâs clear she just wants to keep you within armâs reach.
sheâd hoard little things she finds that might make your life easier, like an extra blanket or berries she foraged. sheâd always frame it like itâs no big deal: âi just thought youâd want this, thatâs all.â
jealous jackie? oh, itâs dialed up to 100. if someone else offers to help you with something, jackie will immediately swoop in. âshe doesnât need your help, iâve got it covered.â even though she could barely lift a bucket of water.
arguments would break out among the group about leadership and survival, but jackieâs main concern? you. sheâd constantly check in on you, asking if youâre warm enough, if youâve eaten, or if youâre scared.
shauna would initially try to protect jackieâs secret, but even sheâd get tired of the whole thing. âjackie, just tell her. youâre already risking frostbite just to sit next to her by the fire.â
during the long, cold nights, jackie would find excuses to be near you. âbody heat is the best way to stay warm,â sheâd say, but the blush on her cheeks would give her away. that damn fag. (affectionate :D)
if you ever got hurt or sick, jackie would lose her mind. sheâd hover over you like a worried mother hen, snapping at anyone who wasnât taking your condition seriously enough. âshe needs rest! and better food! and-â youâd have to calm her down before she worked herself into a frenzy.
and even though the wilderness is brutal and unforgiving, in that moment, her confession would feel like the warmest thing in the world.
Broken heart
The rain tapped quietly against the tall windows of Wayne Manor.
But inside, it was quiet.
Too quiet.
Not peaceful. Not warm.
Just⌠hollow.
Youâd been brought here when you were thirteen.
After your mother died, Bruce took you in.
His real daughter.
Blood.
No one could say you didnât belong here.
And yet, every single day since you walked through the doors of this grand mansionâŚ
You felt like a stranger in your own story.
There was no welcome.
No warmth.
Only rooms that were too big, silences that were too loud, and people who were too busy to look.
Bruce gave you a bedroom, not a family.
A last name, not a father.
He told you he was "doing his best."
But he never looked you in the eye.
He never asked what your favorite food was.
Or if you had trouble sleeping.
Or if your chest hurt again.
Because it did.
It always did.
Your heart condition had followed you your whole life.
Weak rhythms, shortness of breath, chest pain.
Stress made it worse.
Loneliness made it unbearable.
But no one noticed.
Or maybe they just didnât care enough to ask.
Dick smiled at you.
He was always smiling.
But it never reached his eyes.
You sat next to him one afternoon, hoping for connection.
He barely looked up from his phone.
âBored?â he asked.
You didnât answer.
And he didnât wait.
He left.
Jason ignored you.
He didnât mean to be cruelâhe just didnât see you.
One night you collapsed near the stairs.
He found you.
But instead of asking if you were okay, he muttered,
âWhat are you doing on the floor?â
Like it was your fault.
Like your body betraying you was inconvenient.
He helped you up.
But he never looked at you.
And still... you said âthank you.â
Because at least someone touched you.
Tim barely knew when you entered a room.
You could be sitting across from him, and heâd still be more focused on his laptop than your pale face, your shaking hands.
One night, your breathing grew shallowâfast, unsteady.
You curled up in the corner, struggling.
He was there.
Headphones on. Typing.
You nearly passed out at his feet.
And he never noticed.
Damian hated you.
At least he was honest about it.
To him, you were weak.
Pathetic.
A waste of space.
âYou canât even hold your own weight,â he said one afternoon when you dropped a glass.
The truth was, your hands were trembling.
But he didnât care.
He walked away while your heart pounded like a ticking time bomb inside your chest.
No one followed.
No one stayed.
You started keeping painkillers hidden in your drawer.
Not because they helpedâ
but because pretending to take them felt like pretending someone gave a damn.
You started writing letters you never sent.
Journals filled with
âWould they notice if I died?â
âDoes it matter?â
Then came the night it finally broke you.
Your vision blurred.
You couldnât breathe.
You couldnât scream.
You reached for your phoneâ
but the battery was dead.
Your fingers fumbled.
No one heard.
No one came.
You passed out.
---+--+---------------+-------+-------_---------------
When you woke up, everything was white.
The hospital smelled like bleach and cold air.
Alfred was there.
He looked shaken.
Bruce came later.
He stood by your bed.
Silent.
Eyes unreadable.
And then he said,
âWhen did it get this bad?â
You almost laughed.
Because it had always been this bad.
But you had never been worth his full attention.
--------------------------------------------------------
Now, lying in a hospital bed, you stared at the ceiling and whispered,
âI didnât want help. I just wanted to be seen.â
But the damage was done.
---+-------------------------------------------------
Maybe now theyâd care.
Maybe now theyâd feel guilty.
Maybe now someone would look at you and really see you.
But maybe it was too late.
Your heart was fragileâ
and not just because of your condition.
-----------------------------------------------------------
End.
(Or maybe⌠just the beginning.)

summary: a flashfic exploration of Wally's inability to be anything but a plural image when you're within reach. aka: he's codependent as fuck and neither you nor he care.

___________________________đ
Wally Clark's love language is physical touch. No surprise there. The guy needs cuddles like flowers need sunlight to thrive. Always has. Being a ghost for 40 years exacerbated that need, and now that he's a real boy again, he can't help himself. Wally sits too close, hugs hello and goodbye, touches arms and knees when he's telling a story.
It's just that much more amped up when it comes to you.
He was affectionate before you and he became inseparable. Lightly grazed your hand when he walked beside you, found every excuse to tackle you when he tried to teach you football techniques. Ajay and Charley stood there like extra wheels even though it'd been Wally who'd rallied everyone to the field.
What? Your giggle's so damn cute! No way was Wally going to be able to focus on anything else!
Besides Charley's just as bad when Yuri's around, and Simon can't even function when Maddie gives him the eyes. So, everyone can suck it as far as Wally's concerned.
During group activities, Wally would find a way to sit next to you. Would squish his long limbs between you and Maddie and give you a bright, boyish grin. Sometimes he'd stare Xavier down until he got the hint and scooched closer to Nicole at the lunch table, leaving a gap that Wally could settle into beside you. His arm around your shoulders and his knee touching yours. Totally innocent.
Wally brought your favorite snacks to Game Night, established himself as your personal chauffeur despite the fact that you lived closer to Simon and Rhonda, and loyally helped you filter clothes when you and the girls went shopping. Yes. He'd made himself one of the girls just to spend time with you. Don't look at him like that; it worked, didn't it? đ
Since accepting him as your boyfriend (he grins so big, his cheeks ache), Wally's dependence on your touch, warmth, shape against his, has increased a hundredfold.
You sit on the picnic table before the first bell, chatting to Maddie and Claire about something Wally isn't listening to, his arms around your waist, upper body slumped between your legs, head resting on your thigh as you rake your fingers through his thick hair. Oh, he could die all over again and be the happiest of ghosts just for this. Not that he wants to be a ghost again. Not unless you're with him this time. Which would require you to die, too, and that's a terrible thought and he's never going to tell you about it. But the sentiment remains. Wally doesn't want to do anything without you, ever.
He managed to convince the secretary to put him in all your classes, pouting and pleading his case that he'd been dead since 1983 and, "it's so traumatic coming back, she's the only thing I have that feels real...please?" A tactic that he should stop abusing, but it worked on all the teachers when he requested to be sat next to you. Every time a teacher caved, Wally would fold into the desk beside you, beaming like a winner. And who cares? Mina and Ajay, and Charley and Yuri pulled the same doe-eyed trick and got what they wanted, why couldn't Wally do the same?
On Fridays, everyone piles into Wally's high school best friend's living roomâRodney now Wally's legal guardian for reasonsâto have movie marathons. There's trivia to guess the movie. Winner gets one veto and can insert their own choice, but there's three movies in total so pick wisely! They figured out awhile ago that Wally sometimes (always) lets you win trivia when it's his turn to play his lineup. You never veto anything, equally as eager to watch what he opts for. It drives Simon and Ajay insane.
He takes over a whole couch, the three-seater, sprawls long-ways and tucks you between his legs, your body draped over him like a blanket as he wraps his arms around you and doesn't let go for anything. He traces patterns on your back, cradles your head against his chest, soaks up the physical contact like a sponge after years of ghostly numbness.
In the school halls, Wally keeps his hand on your hip. He kisses your head and cheeks and jaw. Doesn't care who sees because you're his girl and he'll do what he wants, thank you. He's proud that you call him yours and wants to show off who his heart belongs to. This one! This one said yes!
You're in his lap more than your own seat when the group descends upon Max's Diner after football games (that, no, Wally doesn't participate in. That era is firmly in the past and he'll never don a jersey again; sorry mom, God bless, rest in peace). His hands are all over you as you engage Rhonda in conversation; on your thighs, waist, back, hips. Anywhere and everywhere that's still appropriate in public. His head under your chin, eyes closed as he listens to your heartbeat, strong and steady, the rhythm matching his.
Wally rolls over in his bed, crushes you beneath his weight as he plays deadâknock on wood that that won't happen again for many yearsâand tries to stifle his laughter when you struggle to reverse the position. Eventually, he showers your skin with kisses, nudges between your thighs and laces his fingers with yours, pressing his smile to yours before kissing you deeply.
The sex is amazing, but nothing beats the afterglow when he has you pliant and sweet, curled into him on your side, your face in his chest, his hand on your lower back, whispering how much he loves you as you doze. Call him codependent, but Wally doesn't want to spend even an hour without you. He isn't a lost puppy, knows how to behave like a man. He just spent too many years being forgotten that he still has trust issues.
And you don't mind. You welcome it, in fact, and that makes Wally feel safer than he ever has. It makes it easy to ignore the looks people give you and him when you agree to go somewhere, "only if Wally's invited, too" because you and he are a package deal. And he does the same for you. Obviously, not for the same reasons, you're perfectly fine being alone, it's just that Wally's not ready to experiment with your absence just yet. Maybe never will be.
Rodney's long since accepted that Wally's room has become your room. From married and childless to married with several formerly-dead teenagers and their SOs, Rodney and his wife have accepted their homebase status like champs. They treat you like familyâyou have a house key for the rare occasion Wally isn't with you after schoolâand acknowledge that Wally can't sleep without you without suffering.
He stays curled around you all night, kisses you awake, big hand trailing from your waist to your hip as he nips the top knot of your spine and grinds his morning wood against your ass. God, you get him hard so easily, Wally sometimes thinks he should get checked out. You hum then sigh then turn in his arms, hook a leg over his and press yourself against him in exactly the right way.
Through half-lidded eyes, Wally gazes at you. Licks his lips as he rocks his hips slowly and watches your expression go from sleepsoft to wanting. You like how that feels baby? You want it inside you? And he kisses you deep and thorough, rolls you onto your back to fit between your legs, groans when one of your hands squeezes his ass through his boxer-briefs.
He needs to be inside you yesterday, loves how you feel, tight and wet and hot around him. Soft touches turn hard, light sweeps of lips turn to teeth and tongue and fresh bruises on your neck. Wally loves to taste you first, to prolong his pleasure by giving you yours, his tongue delving into you and sucking your clit gently; deliriously slow because he can't get enough.
It's not until you're begging him so pretty for his cock that he finally lets himself fuck into you, so hard and sensitive his brain explodes upon fitting deep inside you on the first thrust. A refrain of fuck, yes and oh God baby, you feel so good fills the roomâsorry Rodneyâthe headboard smacking against the wall in time with Wally's hips. Throughout, Wally holds you like something precious, kisses you like salvation, breathes you in like he can't live without you.
He makes sure you come first before he even thinks about letting go, the sensation of you shaking apart around him ripping his own release right from his core. Wally licks into your mouth, moans like a beast, and then, one two three more stunted thrusts and he goes still. Hazy eyes hold yours and you can see the depth of his emotion for you. At least, he hopes so. How he'll treasure you forever. He'll never love anyone as much as he loves you. That's a promise and a threat and he smiles a lazy smile at you as you begin to giggle.
"What's so funny, baby?" Wally nudges your cheek with his nose.
"Nothing, I promise, I'm just...really happy." You tell him and he moans in delight.
"You don't feel suffocated or claustrophobic like Rhonda said you would?" Wally asks, a little insecure. Okay, a lot insecure, even if he doesn't usually feel that way about how reliant he is on your proximity. You've never given him a reason to feel anything but safe and happy and loved, but still. Rhonda knows how to hit bone even when she means well.
You shift, forcing Wally to look at you, your hands cradling his jaw, "Never. I will never, ever want this, us, to be anything but exactly how it is. I love having you all over me."
"Yeah?"
"Yes." And you grin, a warm little thing, "I like sharing everything with you. It's nice. My very own witness to my life."
Wally kisses you again, another slow, deep, sentimental gesture; everything he feels poured into it, before he settles down on top of you, careful not to crush you, his head above your breasts and his eyes fluttering closed. Relaxed. Sated. Safe.
Wally Clark's love language is physical touch, and, in this second chance at life, he's profoundly grateful to have found someone fluent in it.

Hi may I please make a request? Neglectful Batfam (especially Dick, I don't know if the others would say it) always tell reader something along the line of "I'm sorry, you understand right?" after yet another forgotten promise of family time etc. Reader, genuinely yearning for the Batfam's affection, feels hurt but always tries to understand and makes excuses for them. It's only their best friend, a fellow civilian, who insists over and over again that reader deserves better, that no matter how well-intentioned the Batfam still does neglect reader, etc. One day the two have a huge fight over this and reader's best friend storms off only to be kidnapped by a rogue. Reader gets kidnapped too, but to their horror discovers finds that the rogue *also* has the Batfam and tells reader to choose: Their best friend or their family? While the Batfam takes it for granted that reader would choose them, while reader's best friend despairs that especially after their fight there's no way reader would've... Surprising even their own self, reader turns towards Batfam to say, genuinely apologetic, "I'm sorry, you understand right?"
Bonus the aftermath when the Batfam has successfully freed themselves and goes to confront reader, who's still *genuinely* happy about it but more preoccupied making up with their best friend uwu
Family dinner was scheduled for 7 PM.
You arrived at 6:55 with homemade cookies, wearing the sweater Damian said he liked. The manor was dark. Empty. Again.
A text came through at 7:48.
Dick: âSorry, patrol ran long. Rain check? You understand, right?â
You sat at the dinner table alone, the cookies cooling beside your untouched plate. You did understand. You always did.
Bruce had work. Jason had intel. Tim passed out at his desk. Cass was chasing a lead. And Dickâyour big brother figure, your once-upon-a-time constantâwas off somewhere saving strangers with a grin while forgetting you.
They didnât mean to hurt you. They were heroes. Protecting the city.
You understood⌠right?
Your best friend didnât.
âYou keep letting them walk all over you,â they snapped one night, pacing your bedroom. âYou act like itâs okay just because they say sorry. Itâs not.â
âTheyâre trying,â you defended, voice small.
âNo. Youâre trying. Youâre always the one reaching out. Always the one forgiving. And they just assume youâll wait around like some backup plan. You deserve better, [Y/N]. You deserve someone who puts you first.â
The words stung. Worse than anything the Batfam ever forgot.
And so you yelled. Defensive. Hurt. âTheyâre my family!â
âAnd Iâm not?!â
The silence was louder than the shouting.
Your best friendâs face crumbled, lips trembling with words they refused to say. They grabbed their coat and left.
They didnât even slam the door.
You hadnât spoken since the fight.
And then they went missing.
Reported last seen two nights ago, no signs of struggleâjust gone.
Panic cracked your chest open. You reached out to the Batfam for help. They said they were working on it. That you should rest. That they were close.
You didnât rest.
Then you went missing.
Black bag over your head. Cold cement under your knees. And when the bag was pulled offâ
You werenât alone.
The rogueâa madman with a grudge against Gothamâs capesâhad caged you, your best friend, and the entire Batfam. Their gear had been stripped, the cells lined with suppression tech. They were helpless.
And the rogue? Smiling like a devil.
âOne choice,â he said. âYour best friend or your family. One lives. The other dies. You have sixty seconds.â
Your best friendâs face paled.
âDonât choose me,â they whispered. âYou donât have toâIâm sorry for what I said. I love you, I just⌠I wanted you to see how much youâre worth.â
The Batfam said nothing at first.
Then Dick muttered, âCâmon, kid⌠you know who your real family is.â
Tim nodded solemnly. âWe raised you.â
Jason, gruff: âYouâre one of us.â
Bruce said your name like it was a command.
They all assumed.
Of course youâd choose them.
You turned toward themâquiet, trembling.
And then you smiled, sad and soft.
âIâm sorry,â you said, voice breaking. âYou understand, right?â
They froze.
Your eyes were already on your best friend, who looked like they'd just been punched in the heart.
âYouâre choosing me?â
âIâm saving you,â you whispered. âIâm sorry we fought. Iâm sorry I made you feel second. You never were.â
Tears slipped down their cheeks. They reached for you through the bars. âI thought you hated me.â
âI donât think I could if I tried.â
The rogue cackled. âWhat a twist!â
He didnât get to finish the show. Because a moment later, Bat-tech sparked. Cass had pretended to be unconscious long enough to hack the suppressors. Bruce broke the cell doors. Jason tackled the rogue to the ground with a crunch.
Everyone got out alive.
But something shifted.
The aftermath
The Batfam came to see you the next dayâbloody, bandaged, guilty.
Dick sat beside you, quiet for once.
âI didnât realize how much weâve been⌠neglecting you,â he admitted. âI guess I assumed you'd always be there.â
âI always was,â you said, no bitterness in your tone. âEven when you werenât.â
He flinched.
Bruce looked at you. âYou made the right choice.â
âI know,â you said, smiling as your best friend walked into the room with warm soup and a shy wave.
You lit up. "You're here!"
They blinked. âOf course. I owed you soup.â
You reached for their hand and held it like an anchor.
The Batfam watched from the corner, speechless, as you giggled softly with your best friendâglowing in a way you hadnât around them for a long time.
You werenât angry.
You were just finally choosing you.
And someone who had never once needed to say âyou understand, right?ââbecause they did.

Your POV
I wake up disoriented, feeling the cold invade my body and a great pain going throughout my body as if I had slept on the floor. I grunt in pain, shifting in place and trying to get into a better position.
I move my hand around without opening my eyes, trying to find the blanket and cover myself again, as I feel like I'm freezing.
Not finding the blanket anywhere, I open my eyes with some difficulty due to fatigue and the bright light. So I close my eyes again and curl up into a ball to warm up. Once my body starts to warm up, I feel sleep invade my mind once again and I fall asleep.
When I wake up again, it´s to the feeling of hands caressing my back and moving along my right side.
Jackie: Good morning.- she whispers against my ear lovingly, leaving a kiss on the spot and tracing the healed scars with her fingers.
Y/n: Good morning.- I murmur without opening my eyes and enjoying the caresses on my side, stomach and back.
Jackie: You're freezing.- she murmurs against my shoulder, pressing her body against my back and molding herself to mine completely.
Y/n: Yeah, well, it turns out someone loves to hog the duvet and blankets at night, and then there's no way to cover myself with them in the morning.- I reproach her, amused, feeling her bite my shoulder in response. -Ouch, savage.- I complain, trying to separate myself from her, but she clings to my back like a koala.
Jackie: Now I'm a savage? So when I bite you while we're fucking, then I'm not a savage anymore or what? - she asks me amused with a certain lust in her voice.
Y/n: On both occasions you are a savage.- I assure her, turning around and facing her. -But at no time have I said that I don't like it.- I tell her with a smile, moving my eyebrows suggestively.
Jackie: Idiot.- She laughs, hitting my shoulder and I hug her around the waist to hold her flush against my body.
Y/n: If I'm an idiot, then what are you when you married one? - I ask her amused, hiding my face in her neck and starting to leave small, affectionate kisses.
Jackie: I don't know and I don't want to think about it.- she answers me caressing my back and leaving a kiss on my head. -But we have to get up, you have to make breakfast and I have to wake up the gremlins.- she reminds me starting to caress my hair.
Y/n: Yeah, if you think I'm going to get out of bed and let you go if you keep caressing my head, you have it difficult.- I assure her, snuggling up against the warmth of her neck and closing my eyes.
Jackie: Come on, the kids have to go to school and we have to go to work.- she tells me leaving another kiss on my head and trying to get away from me.
Y/n: Noooo.- I complain, keeping my grip on her waist and pulling her towards me, while she keeps trying to escape from my grip. -5 more minutes.- I beg, fighting with her so she doesn't get up.
Jackie: I let you sleep 5 more minutes earlier.- she says pinching my hand and causing me to let her go. -I did it, i´m free!- she celebrates standing at the foot of the bed with her arms in the air.
I just frown, giving her a dirty look and crossing my arms as I watch her celebrate. The way her whole face lights up with happiness, how her natural waves bounce in her now dark brown hair and how her eyes squint at the smile on her face.
Even at 42, there are times when I look at her and see the same 17-year-old Jax running around the soccer field with a smile on her face.
The accident 25 years ago may have been the worst experience we have ever been through, but that doesn't take away the fact that the experience brought me closer to the person I love most in this world, and with whom I have formed a truly happy family.
A family based on love, affection, honesty, quality time and parental presence. Not like the families we grew up in, where love and the lack of parents was bought with objects, and where criticism filled the whole house constantly.
We have created a family and a home that we both should have had when we were children and in which to grow free. A home where our children live happily and we feel complete by being together.
Jackie: Move and stop looking at me like that.- she tells me throwing a pillow at my face and leaving the room.
I can only smile in response, getting out of bed and walking to my closet to get ready for the day.
Once dressed and shaved, I begin preparing the pancakes with chocolate chips and blueberries, along with the bowl of fruit and orange juice. While the coffee is brewing, I head out of the house to the mailbox and pick up today's mail.
I leave the mail on the kitchen island, grab my cup of coffee from the machine and start preparing my wife's just the way she likes it.
I place the breakfast plates in their usual places on the island and begin checking my email while I wait for the rush of footsteps down the stairs that every morning brings.
I'm looking through the bank letters, advertisements, and an envelope from the high school about the 25th anniversary reunion, when an envelope with no return address catches my eye. I open it while taking a sip of coffee and see that it's a postcard.
The postcard shows a mountain range, with a lake in the middle of a forest and snowy mountains in the background. On the right side, at the bottom, you can clearly see a message: Wish you were here! and when I turn it over, I choke on my coffee at the sight of the symbol.
The damn symbol that was everywhere in the woods, in the cabin, and everywhere you looked closely.
I react quickly when I hear the stampede downstairs, folding the postcard and stuffing it into the pocket of my black suit pants.
Tomas: Good morning dad.- he greets me jumping on me with a smile just like his mother's.
Y/n: Good morning gremlin, how did you sleep? - I asked him leaving a loud kiss on his forehead and sitting him on his stool.
Tomas: Very well, I dreamed that a dragon appeared and burned down the school. - he tells me with excitement and with his eyes wide open with the imagination of an 8-year-old child.
Alice: And his homework is doing sums and coloring.- she growls, sitting on her stool and starting to eat her breakfast.
Jackie: As if you were doing your homework. - she reproaches our 15-year-old teenage daughter with amusement.
Emma: I like school. - the middle child of the family shrugs her shoulders with a big smile.
Y/n: That's my princess.- I support her with a smile and high five her.
Tomas: I like school too, because I can play with my friends and learn cool things.- he tells us happily with his mouth full.
Jackie: You don´t talk with a full mouth, honey.- she corrects him with a smile, wiping his mouth with a napkin and leaving a kiss on the top of his head.
Alice: You'll tell me if you still like going to class when you go to high school.- she says to her 12 year old sister with an amused smile.
Y/n: Don't be mean to your sister and don't try to scare her.- I shake my head at my oldest daughter, drinking my coffee and trying to hide the smile on my face at the faces of the 2 youngest.
Tomas: I´m not going to like high school?- he asks us all, a little scared.
Jackie: Don't pay attention to your sister, it's just that the boy she likes doesn't pay attention to her and that's why she has such a sour mood. - she reassures him with a wink, earning a laugh from him and a complaint from the teenager.
Y/n: What boy? - I ask my daughter, confused and serious, when I have processed my wife's words.
Alice: None.- she growls in response, biting the piece of fruit somewhat aggressively.
Jackie: Don´t deny it, there's a boy in her math class that she likes and he doesn't pay attention to her.- my wife tells me with a huge smile. - His name is Axel? I don't know, but apparently he's in the debate club and he's a basketball player.- she says with a voice full of emotion.
Sometimes I forget how much my wife loves and enjoys other people's gossip. But she especially likes it when it's about our teenage daughter. It's like she goes back to that age again.
Alice: Alex mom and no, I don't like him. - she corrects her mother with a serious gesture.
Y/n: You better, because you're not going to have a boyfriend until you're 30, and that's me being nice.- I shook my head seriously.
Jackie: Aren't you being a little bit exaggerated? - she asks me, standing next to me and hugging my waist with one of her arms.
Y/n: No, my children will not know what a broken heart is until they are emancipated.- I deny seriously, making my teenage daughter and my wife laugh at me. -Now we are all finishing up because you guys have to go to class.- I hurry them a little and start to collect their plates.
Jackie: And remember that today I will pick you all up after school. - she reminds our children when they go up to brush their teeth and get their backpacks.
Within ten minutes, I've kissed Jax goodbye and am driving off with my three kids in it. My first stop is the high school where Alice has class and debate club, and then I have to drop Emma and Tomas off at their school.
Jackie´s POV
I turn off the car once I'm parked in the driveway and can't help but frown at the presence of a woman on my porch. I stare at her for a few seconds, before turning my gaze to the back seats and seeing my two youngest children laughing.
Jackie: Go inside with your siblings and do your homework.- I order my teenage daughter.
Alice: Why? What's wrong? - she asks me confused, taking off her belt and picking up her bag from between her legs.
Jackie: I don't know, but I don't know who that woman and considering that it´s the anniversary of the accident, I don't want to take any risks. - I explain sincerely and she nods in understanding.
Alice: Okay.- she nods and gets out of the car as I do and helps me get her youngest siblings out of the back. -Come on kids, the sooner we finish our homework the sooner we can play in the garden.- she tells them excitedly and they run towards the door.
I walk quickly to the porch, opening the door for my children and closing it once they are inside. I look at the woman who is leaning against the porch railing in total comfort, observing her closely and crossing my arms in defense.
Jackie: Who are you and what are you doing in my house? - I asked the stranger directly and without wanting to prolong the subject.
Jessica: My name is Jessica Roberts, I work as a journalist for the Star-Ledger and I wanted to talk to you and your husband about a juicy deal.- she answers me with a fake smile.
Jackie: How the hell did you get our address? - I asked aggressively, taking a couple of steps towards her and trying to maintain my composure.
Jessica: I have my sources.- she answers, still smiling. -I just want to talk about the proposal I want to offer you.- she repeats, moving away from the railing.
Jackie: What proposal? - I asked wanting to end this conversation as soon as possible and get her out of my property as soon as possible.
Jessica: I'd rather wait for Y/n to talk about the proposal.- she tells me without ever stopping her smile and that makes me want to slap it away.
Jackie: And I'm telling you to tell me now.- I demand, raising an eyebrow. -Because if you don't get off my property in the next 5 minutes, I'll call the police for trespassing and i can assure you that you will spend the night in a cell.- I assure her with an evil smile.
Jessica: Star-Ledger wants to make a deal to publish a book about what happened 25 years ago. - she answers, removing the smile from her face and with a more serious tone.
Jackie: Everyone knows what happened 25 years ago, it came out in the press conference that was held and it is not a secret. - I remember her tensing my jaw and trying to remain calm.
Jessica: Yes, but is that what really happened? - she asks now, crossing her arms. -Because we both know there's more to it than what was said. - she clarifies with a certain knowing tone, as if she knew something about what really happened.
Jackie: What really happened? - I asked sarcastically. -What happened was that one of the happiest moments of our lives turned into a hell in which many people lost their lives. Either because of the accident or because of the bad conditions in which we lived for 19 months. That's what really happened, and I'm going to ask you to get off my property right now.- I say with my arms at my sides and standing up as much as possible to look taller.
Jessica: You could earn more than seven figures just by telling your story, the reality of what happened and not letting other people benefit from your misfortune. - she insists with some desperation.
Jackie: Do you know how much my husband and I make in a year?- I ask her with a smirk. -Your offer is only 15% of our earnings, so if you really are a journalist and you think that is a juicy offer, I think you should do a better job.- I say walking towards the front door. -So get the hell out of my house right now and never come back again.- I end the conversation and enter the house, closing the door behind me.
I take a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart and get my hands to stop shaking from the adrenaline.
Once I've calmed down, I walk to my office on the first floor and leave my briefcase on the table. I take my cell phone out of my jacket pocket, texting my husband and asking him to come home as soon as possible.
With the message sent, I walk to the living room where my children are doing their homework and sit down among the little ones on the floor.
We didn't spend much time on their homework, as they didn't have much to do and it didn't have much difficulty with the grade they are both in. So once they had their middle of the evening snack, the four of us went out to the back garden and played soccer for a while.
When I hear the garden gate open, I see Y/n still dressed in his black suit pants and a dark green shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows.
I stare at him in rapture for a few moments, appreciating the way his clothes hug his body in the perfect places and how the colors of the clothes make his skin tone and eyes pop even more.
Jackie: Keep playing, dad and I are going to start preparing dinner.- I say to the three of them, leaving a kiss on the top of Tomas head and walking towards where my husband is.
When I reach where he is, I hug him by the shoulders and stand on my tiptoes to give him a welcome kiss. A kiss that lasts longer than I was planning, as he hugs me by the waist and holds me close to his body so I can't move away.
Y/n: Is everything okay? - he asks me in a low voice when we separate from the kiss and I can see his worried expression.
Jackie: Let's go to the kitchen so we can talk while we prepare dinner.- I ask him, leaving another kiss on his lips and grabbing his hand to pull him along.
Y/n: But is everything okay? Are the kids okay? Are you...- he starts asking non stop and I interrupt him with a look.
Jackie: Wait until we get to the kitchen and then I'll tell you.- I order him without stopping walking and pulling him with me.
Once in the kitchen, I take out the ingredients for the pasta and place them on the counter. I take a couple of deep breaths, trying to gather my thoughts and think of the best way to tell him what happened.
I can feel his curious and somewhat worried gaze on me, making me more nervous than I already am.
Jackie: Stop looking at me, I can't focus.- I beg, a little frustrated at not knowing how to start the conversation.
Y/n: What are you thinking for dinner? - he asks me, leaving a kiss on my head and checking the ingredients.
Jackie: I was thinking of making carbonara and some roasted vegetables to go with it. - I explain to him and he immediately starts taking out the things we needs to cook it.
Y/n: I'll start with the pasta and you with the vegetables? - he asks me and I nod in response.
We both start cooking in complete silence, moving around the kitchen in total synchrony and naturalness. After a few minutes of cooking, I feel more relaxed and while I am chopping the carrots I decide to start the conversation.
Jackie: When I got home with the kids, there was a woman on the porch waiting for me, and it turned out she was a journalist.- I begin to tell him, listening to the sound of the frying pan stop. -She wanted to talk to both of us and offer to write a book.- I explain with a grimace.
Y/n: A book? - he asks confused and I hear the sound of the frying pan again.
Jackie: A book in which we tell what really happened 25 years ago. - I answer, swallowing hard and listening a frustrated sigh behind me.
Y/n: I can't believe it.- he denies with her voice full of annoyance. -Every year it's the same, there's always someone lurking around trying to dig into what happened. Why can't they leave the past behind and let us live in peace.- he complains with anger and I sigh tired with the situation.
Every year some journalist or news article appears questioning the version that was published when we were rescued. Every year it is the same, hundreds of conspiracies and stories about what really happened come to light again. Some of them are very close to the truth that we all, absolutely all of us agree to deny and hide at all costs.
Jackie: I know, but like you said, it's nothing out of the ordinary and as soon as they appear, they disappear. But I had to tell you because this time I didn't feel the same way, she was more insistent and it seemed like she actually knew something. - I tell him with some uncertainty, not knowing very well if the journalist was bluffing or if she really knew something.
Y/n: Maybe this time it will be different.- he comments with a sigh, leaving the kitchen and leaving me confused rooted in my place.
Jackie: Where are you going? - I ask without understanding why he is leaving and where he is going.
I look confused at the hallway where my husband has disappeared, trying to process what just happened and why he left. I try to think of something, but my husband comes back into the kitchen and leaves something in front of me.
I look at what he has placed in front of me, seeing that it is a postcard with a beautiful landscape on it and a simple phrase.
Jackie: What is this? - I asked confused, looking between the postcard and my husband.
Y/n: Turn it around.- he orders me in a soft but somewhat heavy tone.
I do as I'm told and as soon as I see what's on the back, I drop the postcard immediately like it burns. I take a few steps back, hearing my heart racing in my ears and feeling my mouth go dry.
Jackie: Like... I don't... I don't... - I try to say something, but it's like my mind and mouth have lost all communication.
Y/n: It arrived this morning.- I listen to what he says and look at him in astonishment. -I haven't told you anything because I thought it would be a joke and that I shouldn't give it any importance. But the presence of that journalist makes me doubt if it's a coincidence or something premeditated.- he explains to me with some insecurity, pinching the bridge of his nose and closing his eyes for a few seconds.
Jackie: So what... what are we supposed to do? - I asked with a little difficulty, trying to keep my focus on the conversation and not on the symbol on the postcard.
Y/n: I don't know.- he denies, defeated, resting both hands on the kitchen island. -Maybe our best option is to ignore it for the moment and wait to see if something else happens.- he says with a doubtful tone that makes it more of a question than a statement.
Jackie: So we ignore it all? - I ask to make sure.
Y/n: Yes.- he nods, letting out a long sigh. -Unless you think there's something else we can or should do?- he asks me with some curiosity.
Jackie: No.- I deny through my teeth, feeling the tremble in my lower lip and an annoying itch in my eyes.
Y/n: Hey, everything's going to be okay.- he assures me, running towards me and wrapping me in his arms. -Nothing bad is going to happen.- he tries to reassure me, placing my head on his chest and gently stroking my hair.
Jackie: What if something bad happens? - I ask with a broken voice, with my hands on his back and my fists clenched around his shirt.
Y/n: As long as I'm around, nothing bad will happen to you or the kids. I promise.- he whispers with conviction against the top of my head, continuing to comfort me and letting me cry against his chest.
We spend a while wrapped in each other's arms, until I feel like I'm no longer crying and that I feel a little calmer.
Once I move away from his chest a little, he immediately grabs my face and gently wipes away all traces of tears from my cheeks with his thumbs. I just stare into his gorgeous green eyes, which are filled with worry and something more intense.
Y/n: Do you want a glass of wine? - he asks me with a small smile, trying to lighten the mood and cheer me up a little.
Jackie: More like the whole bottle.- I reply with a pout, causing him to laugh, and in the end I join him.
Y/n: A bottle of wine is coming to the most impressive woman in the world!- he exclaims with humor, leaving a kiss on my forehead and walking towards the wine rack. -Red, white, rose, sparkling?- he asks, moving his fingers between the bottles.
Jackie: White.- I respond amused, watching how he moves and feeling more relaxed with his movements.
Once we have a meal in hand and a lighter mood, we go back to preparing dinner. I just hope that Y/n is right and that doing nothing is the most appropriate thing for this situation.
I just hope it's a coincidence and there's nothing premeditated or organized behind this.
I look up from the color palette, when I hear the doorbell ring and I frown looking towards where the front door is. Somewhat doubtful, I sit on the stool and think about who could be knocking on the door.
But I don't have anyone I know in mind or any reason why someone would knock on my door on a Sunday morning.
The doorbell rings again, so with a sigh I get up from the stool and walk calmly to the door. I open the door and the polite smile on my face immediately disappears.
Jackie: What the hell are you doing here? - I ask through clenched teeth, looking behind the people and making sure there's no one else around.
Taissa: We need to talk to you and since you're not answering the phone, we've been forced to come. - she answers, crossing her arms and walking past me to enter my house.
Jackie: No, no, no.- I deny trying to grab Tai and prevent the others from entering the house behind her. -You can't come in.- I growl annoyed.
Natalie: This concerns you too.- she assures me, looking at the photos on the walls. -Where's Y/n?- she asks, turning around and looking at me.
Jackie: Out.- I answer simply, frustrated with the presence of the three women and closing the door.
Taissa: When will he come back? - she asks me a little worried.
Jackie: I don't know.- I answer, passing by the three of them and walking back to the kitchen.
Taissa: And could you call him to ask him to come as soon as possible? - she asks me walking behind me.
Jackie: No.- I answer as if it were obvious.
Natalie: What do you mean no? - she asks with a hint of aggression in her voice. -We have to tell you something important, something related to that and it's urgent.- she assures me, referring to our accident.
Jackie: That's in the past and right now my husband is busy with our present and future. So no, I'm not going to call him and ask him to come over immediately. - I explain with finality, knowing that I'm not going to call him and force him to leave our son's soccer game.
Shauna: You're still just as selfish. - she tells me evilly, speaking for the first time since I've seen her and causing me to clench my jaw in anger.
Jackie: You, you're the one calling me selfish? - I asked in a sarcastic and somewhat poisonous tone. -The one person who, after fucking my ex-boyfriend and getting pregnant by him while she was still with me, made ME look like the bad guy. - I reproached her, still upset and hurt by what she did to me.
Shauna: And yet after all this time everything still revolves around YOU.- she reproaches me with pure venom in her voice.
Jackie: You're in my house, you've entered uninvited and you're demanding things from me when I haven't seen you in over 20 years.- I remind to two of three. -But I'm the selfish one for refusing to do something, when you two haven't even asked me how I am or explained the reason why you've invaded my home.- I comment, pointing at the three of them with obvious frustration.
Shauna: Because you've blocked us from everywhere and this is the only solution we've found. - She gestures around her with both arms. - So don't blame us for being here, when this could have been avoided with a phone call and that's it. - She spits in my face through her teeth.
Jackie: And you're surprised that I blocked you? - I asked her surprised. - You're surprised that after almost freezing to death because of you, I didn't want to know anything about you and I made sure of that? - I asked her with some sarcasm and disbelief at her attitude.
Shauna: It wasn't my fault! - she exclaims in denial. -I didn't force you to leave, I didn't put a knife to your neck to get you to leave the cabin and you know that perfectly well.- she claims pointing at me with her finger.
Jackie: You may not have held a knife to my neck, but at no point did you make me feel welcome or safe to continue being in that cabin that night.- I assure her through gritted teeth. -And the only, the ONLY reason I'm alive today, is because Y/n went outside with me that night, who put me in the meat shed when it started to get too cold and who made sure I didn't freeze to death that night. So yes Shauna, I hold you mostly responsible for my near death.- I remind her with venom and some pain at the memory of that night.
Neither of them says anything for a few seconds, filling the kitchen with a tension that could be cut with a knife, which gives me time to start gathering my things from the island and processing their presence in my house.
Natalie: What is that? - she asks me curiously, approaching the island and looking at the different sketches, colors and textures spread out in it.
Jakcie: A work project.- I reply vaguely, placing everything in a pile and putting it into a big folder.
Natalie: What project are you working on? - she asks again with curiosity, pulling out a stool and sitting on it.
Jackie: In the inside of a two-story and 500 square meter house, decorated with natural colors and metallic objects.- I explain with a small, happy smile at her interest.
The truth is that in all these years since we were rescued, both Y/n and I cut off ties with all the other survivors. The only people we kept in touch with were Nat and Lottie.
After all, Lottie is Y/n's twin sister so it's only natural that we maintained our relationship with her, especially given how overprotective my husband has always been of her. On the other hand, he and Nat have always been very good friends, so we continued to keep in touch with her after being rescued and returning to our daily lives.
It's been a while since we last saw them, but seeing Nat in front of me and giving me a slight smile makes me happy. Since the moment we were rescued, she was one of all of us who had it the worst at adapting and is constantly in rehab.
Taissa: Do you work? - she asks me, surprised by the information I just gave.
Jackie: Why do you seem so surprised? - I ask her, both offended and amused by her reaction.
Taissa: I don't know. - She denies with a grimace. - I always imagined you marrying someone rich and being a rich housewife. - She explains, shrugging her shoulders.
Jackie: Well, you got the first part right, because I married someone rich.- I remind her with an amused smile. -But I went to college for a reason, right? Besides, it's something I love and they pay very, very well depending on the client.- I explain, shrugging my shoulders.
Natalie: And are you going to offer us something to drink or? - she asks, moving her hands in circles.
Jackie: Do you want something to drink? - I asked them politely, offering a fake smile to the dark haired one.
Taissa: A coffee with milk would be nice, thanks.- she thanks me sitting on the other stool.
Natalie: You know what I want.- She gives me an amused look and I shake my head at the ridiculousness of it.
Shauna: Something strong.- she answers sitting on the last stool on the island to Nat's left.
I quickly start making the coffee and while it's pouring into the cup, I grab the bottle of tequila from the cabinet on top of the fridge and place it in front of Nat. I grab three shot glasses and Tai's coffee, placing them on the island.
The brunette opens the bottle and begins to fill the glasses with the yellowish liquor. We each take a glass and drink the contents in one gulp.
Jackie: Okay, what's so urgent? - I ask them once the sting of the tequila in my throat calms down a bit.
Taissa: This.- she answers me taking her phone out of her pocket and sliding it towards me along the island.
Jackie: What the hell is this? - I ask, somewhat disturbed and scared when she saw the message.
Natalie: Blackmail.- she answers me as if it were obvious. -Haven't you received the message?- she asks me confused.
Jackie: No, neither Y/n nor I have received it.- I immediately deny. - Yes, we received a postcard a week ago and a journalist showed up that same day offering a deal to tell what really happened. But apart from that, nothing.- I tell them with all the honesty possible.
Shauna: It wouldn't be a Jessica Roberts, would it? - she asks me with her eyes wide open.
Jackie: Yes.- I nod immediately with my eyes open. -Did she go to your place too?- I ask trying to connect the dots.
Shauna: Yes, she came to me a little over a week ago, offering to write a book and receive a sum of more than seven figures to tell what really happened in that forest. - she confirms, pressing her lips together in a continuous line.
Natalie: None of this makes sense.- she denies, massaging her temple and pouring herself another shot. -The postcard was only received by Misty, Tai, Y/n, you and I. While the blackmail message was received by Taissa and me. So why send the postcard to some and the message to others?- she leaves her doubt hanging in the air and I agree with her.
As Tai was about to say something, we hear the front door open and a couple of quick footsteps.
Y/n: Jax we're home! - I hear him shout from the entrance and I can hear the fun in his voice.
Tomas: Mommy, mommy, mommyyyyy! - he shouts, running through the house and entering the kitchen with his dirty uniform and a huge smile on his face. -We won! - he exclaims completely happy, running towards me and jumping into my arms.
Jackie: Really? - I asked, exaggerating my reaction and smiling at the happiness on her face.
Tomas: Yes.- he nods enthusiastically. -I scored a goal.- he tells me enthusiastically.
Jackie: Wow that amazing.- I say with my eyes wide open and a hugh smile.
Emma: Auntie Nat? - she asks from the kitchen entrance with her eyes wide open.
Natalie: Isn´t that the blonde dwarf. - She smiles, getting up from the stool and opening her arms. - How you've grown. - She growls against my daughter's blonde hair when she hugs her.
Shauna: Auntie Nat? - she asks completely confused, exchanging glances between the black haired adult and the blonde girl in her arms. -Since when do you have children? - she asks, looking at my son in my arms.
Jackie: Since when do I have to give you any explanations? - I answer sharply. - Why don't you go out with your sister to the garden and play for a while? Okay? - I ask my son, giving him a kiss on the forehead and putting him down on the ground.
Tomas: Okay.- He nods happily, holding out his hand to his sister and running with her to the garden, once they both join hands.
Jackie: Plus, I'm surprised my mom didn't tell you about it at one of your lunches.- I commented ironically, crossing my arms.
Shauna: She didn´t.- she shakes her head with a strange expression on her face.
Y/n: Jax, you're not going to believe the funniest moment of the game you missed.- he comments between laughs entering the kitchen. -What's going on here? Nat? When did you get out of rehab?- he asks, wiping his smile away when he sees the three people in our kitchen.
Natalie: It's been almost two weeks.- she answers, shrugging her shoulders without giving it any importance.
Y/n: And didn't you think to let us know or come visit? - he asks her, crossing his arms.
Natalie: Yeah, well, let's just say I haven't had much time between Travis' death, the postcard, Misty being crazy and now the damn blackmail. - she tells us with some frustration and I can only open my eyes in surprise at the information, and I can see that my husband has a similar reaction to mine.
Y/n: Travis is dead? - he asks in shock. - Wait, postcard? Did they send you that damn postcard with the symbol too? - he asks again, approaching the group.
Taissa: They also sent it to Misty and me.- the curly haired girl answers. -But we're not here for the postcard, we're here for a more important reason that affects us all.- she explains seriously, picking up her cell phone from the island and showing him the blackmail message to my husband.
Y/n: What the hell is this? - he asks angrily after reading the message.
Shauna: We're being blackmailed by someone who came back with us or who has been told something from one of us. - she replies, taking another shot.
Y/n: Have you been the only one who received it? - she asks the future senator and returns the phone to her.
Taissa: The two of us.- she answers pointing at the short black haired one and herself.
Y/n: Okay.- he nods with a frown. -But they haven't sent us that message.- he says with some doubt looking at me and I shake my head in confirmation.
Natalie: It seems so.- she nods, agreeing with him.
Y/n: So why are you all here?- he asks confused. -Don't get me wrong, it's good to see you again and all that, at least some of you. But I don't understand why you're here.- he comments seriously, walking towards me and giving me a short kiss.
Taissa: We didn't know that you hadn't received the message. - she explains, letting out a sigh and taking a sip of her coffee.
Jackie: Well, you already know that we didn´t and to be honest, I don't want to get involved in whatever you're doing and have our children be affected in any way. - I deny, adopting a defensive posture.
Natalie: And we understand, but we need your help.- she asks us, biting her lip and letting out a sigh.
Y/n: What do you need? - she asks directly.
Shauna: Money would be nice, if you have it.- she answers with her lips in a straight line.
I immediately throw a dirty look at the one who was my best friend, letting out a mocking sound at her audacity and I feel the words bubbling in my throat.
Y/n: Okay.- nods and disappears through the archway into the main floor hallway.
Taissa: Where is he going? - she asks me, just as confused as I am.
I just shrug my shoulders, not knowing why he left without saying anything and not knowing where he was going. Nat refills the glasses with tequila and I bring mine over to him to refill.
Jackie: And how did it go this time in rehab? - I ask the short haired one with interest.
I rest my elbows on the island, leaning against them and giving my friend my full attention. Since we were rescued, Nat was the one who had the hardest time adjusting back to our life before the accident.
So since we got back, she's been going to rehab and has got herself arrested a couple of times.
Natalie: Fine.- she answers with a grimace. -I haven't taken any drugs yet and I'm not lacking in desire with everything that's going on.- she admits, taking the shot.
Taissa: You better, because I can't pay for your rehab visits anymore. - she comments with a certain humor, taking another sip of her coffee.
Y/n: Here you go.- he says returning to the kitchen and leaving a wad of bills on the island.
Shauna: You have 50,000 grand at home? - she asks surprised seeing the money.
Y/n: I have more than that stored at home.- he admits shrugging his shoulders and I look at him surprised.
Jackie: Why do you have so much money at home? - I asked, stunned by the money and thinking about where he could have that money.
Y/n: For emergencies - he respond simply raising his shoulders downplaying it.
Shauna: Is that really 50 grand?- she asks again and my husband nods. -Well, it's a bit disappointing compared to the standard of heist movies.- she says with a smirk on her lips.
Y/n: It's 50 grand in 100 dollar bills.- he answers as if it were obvious. -How crazy would I be to have that much money in our house in small bills, they would take up a lot more space.- simply explains as if that amount of money wasn't much and placing a hand on my lower back.
Taissa: We already know who will pay for your next rehab.- she says to the short-haired girl somewhat funny.
Natalie: Thank you for your faith in me, Tai.- she reproaches her, rolling her eyes.
Jackie: Do you need anything else? - I ask them with some impatience, wanting this conversation to end so they can leave.
Taissa: No, thanks for this.- she says holding the wad of bills in her hand. -We will let you know if we manage to catch the blackmailer so we can return your money.- she tells us and I nod in agreement with her words.
Natalie: Well, let's go. - She gets up from the stool and takes a few steps back.
Y/n: You're not leaving.- he points at her with his finger. -You're staying for dinner and spending time with your goddaughter.- he says seriously and with an evil smile.
Natalie: Really? - she asks, grumbling like a child.
Y/n: What do you think? - he asks back with his arms crossed and raising an eyebrow.
Shauna: Well, then the two of us are... we're going to go.- she says, pointing towards the archway towards the hallway with her thumb and with a slight tremor in her voice.
Jackie: Can you help them out and while I bathe Tommy?- I ask the only man in the kitchen.
Y/n: Sure.- he nods with a smile, leaving another kiss on my lips and walking with the other two women towards the exit of the house.
Jackie: And you play with your goddaughter for a while, she missed you.- she ordered the brunette with a big smile.
Natalie: Yes, captain.- she mocks with a military salute and walking with me to the garden.
I watch my children for a few seconds, listening to their laughter as they chase each other and feeling a warm feeling all over my body at their happiness.
The unexpected visit and the conversation with the girls made me remember the worst moments of my life. But they also made me realize how lucky I was, because thanks to that accident I found my soulmate and I managed to start a family with him.
A happy family, with its bad times and its good times. With dysfunctional aunts and absent grandparents. But a family like neither of us had growing up with.
We have managed to form a family based on love and the different forms of affection that our parents omitted during our growing up.
In addition, I am now the happiest I have ever been in my entire life, without having to pretend and I feel complete with the presence of my loved ones.
For that very reason, I curse that horrible day when we got on that damm plane, but I bless the moment when I set my gaze on Y/n in the middle of all that madness.Â
Because thanks to him, I am alive today at this moment and I can be watching our children run around in our home. It was all part of our destiny.
THE END
summary: what if neglected character was well-loved in our universe despite being so hated in her own?
(spin-off neglected reader x batfam)
DC readers were eating up the comic run, but it really got a big hit when Batman, on one of his infamous runs, met this homeless family , neglected character's family, and offered to raise the neglected character till they were 18 out of false pity.
So this HC is essentially us , the readers; the 4th wall is essentially reading comics , specifically those about the Batfamily.
So the Batfamily comics are released by this huge company called DC , where a man named Bruce Wayne tragically lost his family one night and, filled with rage and vengeance, became Batman.
The comic's continued run continues on, and we, the readers, read how he met every Robin and learn about their pasts ,growths, etc, from Dick's tragic start to Jason's demise. Tim's rather conflicting start and Damian's controversial add-in.
The company hadn't expected so many readers (us) to like this seemingly normal person. I mean, come on, the neglected character can barely tie her own shoelaces properly and is literally so socially awkward.
This, of course, backfires immensely since a lot of DC readers really like neglected character because of how easily relatable they are to the big audience .
Neglected character was originally added to the family as, like, a punchline and for filler purposes, especially for Damian and Jason to appear more vibrant and more in touch with the audience and since they were running out of ideas and thought batman saving neglected character could be a moment.
There was also a whole separate run for Bruce and Tim with neglected characterâthey were talking about some complex time travel whatnots to explain a sudden time jump in the comics, and poor neglected reader was just there as a punchline because she was too 'dumb' to understand what they weee talking about .This backfired on them, of courseâit turned into a massive meme about how 'shit is so confusing even our goat (neglected character) can't understand this shii.
At this point in the actual comics, things were getting frisky in the family. The Batfam literally starts despising neglected character so much. She's literally a nobody who doesn't even try to do anything like saving gotham like them, and they're so much better than her, so why is she getting all the love ?
Like, seriously, why would anyone want to like some lowlife who can't solve cold cases in two days, do crazy backflips, and knows ancient martial arts techniques and ancient languages? Oh! Did they forget to mention they can do anything? Side note: they can !
DC really tried to push the Batfam propaganda for a while, trying to manipulate us readers into liking them, but it's so hard too when we as the general audience can't even relate to them.
Thus, neglected character's fanbase grew exponentiallyâliterally to the point where DC had to make their own solo because of the high demand .
Neglected character whose whole solo run was just them trying to find themselves and distance themselves from how hateful and harmful the Batfam areâespecially Jason and Damian. Literally, their run was just them helping people, like a close friend getting over a bad ex, to helping this one grandma open a bottle of ketchup.
Their run made a big hitâloads of readers loved how normal and relatable the neglected character is! Especially how she grows to love herself for being normal and just living for herself, which touched a lot of readers' hearts.
Due to the neglected character's striking popularity , the company literally had to somehow mention her name or her existence everywhere in every run they make in order for it to be successful .
Oh, Tim Drake is getting a solo run? Let's put the neglected character in the background of the cover so people can pick it up to read. Oh, Damian and Batman are going on a duo adventure? Let's add a scene in the trailer where they mention the character's name once so people can flock to theaters to actually watch their movie.
Jason and Nightwing are getting their own animated series? Let's have a short ten-second clip of them discussing a plan and name-walking in the background so people can actually care about the series .
Literally the entire Batfam's popularity and relevancy are dependent on neglected character because whenever DC tries not to mention or include them, readers and viewers, respectively, don't engage with it, and it turns into a huge flop.
There are literally a hundred videos on YouTube where they all discuss who the strongest/best hero in the Batfam is, and the neglected character always wins , despite not even being a vigilante, because 'the goat (neglected character) just needs a bad day and a reason to crash out, and ain't no one in the Batfam can stop them' , ' Give my Goat (neglected character) a bat and a reason to crashout and she'd no-diff the entire villains cast in Gotham' , ' Personally if neglected reader was there , this situation would of never happened ' ,' TRUST NEGLECTED CHARACTER IS GONNA SHOW UP AND COOK JUST WAIT ' , ' NEGLECTED CHARACTER PLEASE SAVE US FROM WHATEVER THIS IS '.
Like, the Batfam is really starting to despise neglected character even more because, seriously, what does she have that they don't? And the neglected character couldn't give a damn because they are on their 20th comic issue where they are going to Spain with their classmates and they somehow save their airplane from crashing by accidentally falling into the cockpit and somehow hitting a random button that stabilizes the plane.
Safe to say DC readers and neglected reader fans are eating this shit up while Batfam seethes.
DC might have accidentally fucked up by making a run where Batfam gets so jealous they go out of their way to hunt neglected character and kill them, but due to leakers leaking the run and fans literally rioting, boycotting, and slandering the company, the company literally had to discard the whole issue and release an apology statement .
People took to the net by storm, even those who never read the comics in their life were leaving comments such as 'Ain't no way they tried killing my goat (neglected character),' Ayo bro, what is this ??,' 'LEAVE NEGLECTED CHARACTER ALONE,' and 'Tis pmo, man.'
It's safe to say DC indirectly created a literal icon of a character, and they can't kill them off or make any drastic changes to her character, or her fans will cook them alive.
Batfam slowly starts realizing their mistake in hating the neglected character and begins obsessing with her , trying to earn her favor, while the neglected character is just genuinely confused because since when do they check up on her?

No matter how much the team teased her about it, Jackie Taylor did not have a crush on you.
Did she like your soft smile? Yes. Could she spend days on end listening to a recording of your cheerful and sweet laugh? Why, of course. Did her heart stop whenever you looked at her a second too long? Maybe, but it was only because she thought you were beautiful âin a platonic way.
She did not like you. She didnât think of you every night before she went to bed. Nope. Not at all. And Nat could shove her own words up her ass, because she sure as hell wasnât a simp for you.
Yeah, as if.
âHey,â you waved your hand in the air as you walked towards the field. You had just changed into your football uniform, and looked around. âIs everyone ready for practice?â
âYeah,â Nat said, stretching her arms. âWe were waiting for you for like, I donât know, ten minutes.â
âYouâre the last one. You know what that means,â Van smirked at you, and if it wasnât for Taiâs presence next to them, you would have walked over to smack them in the face.
âGotta run for ten minutes around the field,â Lottie said in a singsong voice. You narrowed your eyes at her.
âIâm gonna get you, Matthews,â you threatened with mock anger.
âWhatâs going on?â Jackie, who had been talking to coach Ben about something, asked. Her smile grew a little bigger when she noticed you within the other team players, and you swear you heard Nat and Shauna giggle to each other.
âY/N was last,â Nat said. âShe has to run for ten minutes.â
âOkay, fineââ
âThat wonât be necessary,â Jackie said. Her voice, always soft and bright, was commanding. She wasnât the Jackie who played around anymore, she was captain Jackie, and everyone in the team knew it.
âWhat?â Van asked, offended. They looked between the both of you, mouth ajar. âThatâs not fair! Itâs a tradition you started, Jackie. Last one has in the field during practice has to run while the others train. Y/N was the last one today.â
âEnough, Palmer,â Jackie gave them a stern look. âY/N was late because of me.â
You gave her a surprised look, taken aback by her lie. You should not have been bewildered, thoughâ Jackie always had your back no matter what, using her easy charm to cover up for your slip-ups
âMaking out before practice?â Nat asked, crossing her arms in front of her chest.
Jackieâs cheeks turned a bright red color, but she didnât dare to look at you. Instead, she clapped her hands together a few times, and everyone around sobered up.
âDivide yourself into two teams,â Jackie raised her voice. âWhoever team wins, gets to rest while the others run a lap.â
Everyone groaned, looking around to start to form the groups, trying to be as equitative as possible.
âShauna, youâre captain of team green. Team blue is my team,â Jackie called, and the brown eyed woman nodded, wasting no time to craft the perfect team in her mind as she looked at everyone in the field.
âOkay, coolââ
âY/N,â Jackie interrupted her best friend. âYouâre on my team.â
âAnd in her heart,â whispered Nat.
Thankfully, neither Jackie nor you hear it.
If Jackie did not like you, she obviously also didnât feel any ownership over you. She wasnât jealous, she wasnât possessive; there was no point in being those things, as you were both just two good friends.
But sometimes, someone would walk up to you and Jackie forgot her inner mantra, throwing it out the window of her mind. The person would smirk and lean in close, feigning they could not hear what you were saying, and Jackie would feel something dark and uncomfortable burning inside of her.
Sure, you werenât hers, but that didnât mean anyone had the right to talk to you, so obviously trying to flirt it was painful to observe.
They didnât have the right becauseâ becauseâ well, because she said so.
âHey, Y/N,â Jackie said, walking up to your locker.Â
Her voice was high-pitched, and you turned to look at her. Anyone else would have thought nothing of her tone, but you knew her; it was the same voice she used when she wanted to be rude but knew she couldnât.
âHi, Jackie,â you said, completely forgetting about the man who was talking to you about the chemistry test you both had next week.
Jackie walked with purpose, and she stood in front of you. She wrapped her arm around your shoulders, pulling you into her body. You sighed in relief; it was starting to get cold, and her warmth was welcomed.
The woman smiled when you rested your head on her shoulder, and big green eyes twinkling as she started the man down.
âWhat were you talking about?â she asked, even though she wasnât interested in the least. She knew how men wereâ she suffered their unwanted advances on the daily. It was all an act to get you on their bed.
âOh,â the man said, clearing his throat. âWe were discussing the next chemistry examââ
âWell, I hope you study hard. Bye.â
You barely had time to close your locker before Jackie was pulling you away from that man.
âHeyâ Jackie,â you complained, pulling your books closer to your chest. âWhat was that for?â
âThat boy is a womanizer,â Jackie said through gritted teeth. âHe just wanted to get in your panties.â
âYou think?â you asked, turning slightly to look at the boy, who was leaning against your locker and staring at you. When he saw you looking back, he smirked and waved. âI think he just wants help studying.â
âYouâre too naĂŻve,â the blonde said. âHe has tried that same trick with half the school.â
âReally?â you whispered conspicuously. âI thought he was just being friendly.â
Jackie shook her head, leaning in to kiss the side of your head. Her arm was still around you, and it made you walk awkwardly. You still didnât complain.
âBoys are never friendly just because, Y/N,â she said. âThey only got one thing on their mind.â
âKissing?â you raised an eyebrow at her.
Jackieâs laugh could be heard all around the halls, a melodic sound that carried you out of the building.
âEvery year it gets colder earlier,â you complained, shivering slightly.
âAre you cold?â Jackie asked, finally pulling away. You almost moaned in complain at the lack of warmth on your side, but before you could voice your discomfort, a weight was placed on your shoulders.
You looked to your side to see Jackieâs team letterman jacket resting over you. You smiled, putting your books in one hand to put the sleeve on.
âThank you,â you said, with genuine gratitude. Jackie shook her head, simply reaching over to grab your books so you fully put on the jacket.
âWanna hang out in the field?â she asked. Once you had the jacket on, she wrapped her arm around your shoulders again, because she wanted to but most importantly, because she could.
âThe one time we donât have to train, and you still wanna go over there,â you rolled your eyes, but followed her steps when she changed course.
She laughed again, turning to look at you. With bright big eyes, and lips pulled into a tight smile, you thought no one would ever be as pretty as she was.
As you walked, Jackie peaked behind you and saw the same man, looking over with frowned eyes. As she heard you talking about your day, she raised her arm enough for everyone to see the back of your jacket, where Taylor stood proudly over her team number.
Sheâs wearing my jacket, not yours. Dipshit.
To say she was ecstatic at his scolf was an understatement.
Yeah, she thought, let everyone know she only wears my number. Let everyone know sheâs mine.
That time, she didnât try to correct herself.
âI think Jackie has a crush on me.â
Van, who was tying up their cleats, stopped suddenly.
âUh?â they asked, blinking a few times.
âIââ you cleared your throat, your cheeks suddenly turning red. âI think she might like like me.â
âOh, shit,â Van said, rubbing their face.
âDidâ did I say something wrong?â
âYes!â Van let go of the laces, irritated. âYou werenât supposed to find out until November. You just lost me ten bucks!â they groaned. âThanks, buddy.â
âWhat?â you gave them a puzzling look. âWaitâ you have bet on me?â
âNo,â Van waved their hands around. âNot on you. On your inability to see whatâs happening right in front of your face, to be exact.â
âOkay, rude,â you said. âIâm not that oblivious.â
âOh, no. Of course not,â Van said. Their tone was laced with sarcasm. âYou joined the team two years ago, and only now you have realized.â
âWait, she has liked me for two years?â you asked in a whisper.
âDuh,â Van gave you a long look. âJesus, youâre a lost cause.â
âScrew you.â
âWhat made you realize?â Van asked, with genuine curiosity. They put their feet back down on the ground, leaning over the bench to look at you.
âShe, umââ you looked around, making sure no one else was in the changing room. Feeling guilty over spilling such deep secrets, you moved over and sat down next to Van, so no one else would hear. âShe kind of lied, the other day. So I wouldnât have to run around the field.â
âShe always lies,â Van scoffed.
âJackie never lies,â you said, firmly. You gave the redhead a look, one that would have been threatening if it wasnât coming from you. âSheâs an honest person.â
Van chuckled. âShe will lie to save your ass,â they said. âBecause sheâs the fattest crush on you.â
âFuck,â you whispered.
After practice a week later, instead of going back to the changing room with the rest of the team, you grabbed Jackie and pulled at her hand, forcing her to move toward the bleachers. She went willingly, allowing you to take her wherever it was that you wanted her to be.
She would walk through fire if it meant holding your hand.
In a platonic way, of course.
âJackie,â you said in a serious tone. You took a deep breath, and stared into big green eyes who looked back with passion. âWe need to talk.â
She frowned her eyebrows, quickly picking up on your mood swing. âWhatâs wrong?â she asked, moving closer.
Jackieâs hand rested on your waist when she saw you starting to pull away. She hated it; hated whenever there was distance between the two of you. She wanted you close to her always, holding your hand and laughing with you.
âI thinkâ I think you might be interested in someone.â
Jackie gave you a puzzling look. Her, being into someone? Not a chance.
âWhat are you talking about, Y/N?â She asked, as confused as she has ever been.
âDonât make me say it, please,â you moaned, like a petulant toddler. âThis is embarrassing.â
âWell, I canât read your mind, can I?â
You looked away from her, incapable of looking into her eyes as you spoke.
âI think I might like someone, too.â
Jackie froze at your words. Her jaw dropped, eyes open so wide it looked like they might jump out of their sockets.
âYouâŚâ she gave a bewildered look. âYou like someone?â
You nodded, and her hand tightened on your waist, as if she needed some support to keep her from falling over.
âThis canât be happening,â she whispered, closing her eyes. You gave her a concerned look.
âJackieââ
âIs it that boy from the locker? The one who kept trying to flirt with you?â
âNo. Itâsââ you cleared your throat. âItâs not a boy.â
âOh, no,â Jackie blinked away the white spots that were starting to form on her vision. âNat? Tai? Orââ she gasped, looking at you accusingly. âDonât tell me itâs Shauna.â
âWhy would it beâ No! Itâs not Shauna.â
âItâs not?â she gave you a look. âThank god.â
âItâs you,â you whispered.
âMe?â Jackie asked, trying to make sure she had heard you properly. âYou like me. Me.â
âYeah. I like you, Jackie.â
She leaned in close to you, looking at your lips. You closed your eyes, preparing yourself for her kiss. Instead, you felt her weight over you, literally on you.
âJackie? Oh my god!â
Safe to say, it took the Yellowjackets over a month to get over the little spectacle you and coach Ben had pulled off when Jackie fainted.
You had wanted to keep it a secret, of courseâ Class Queen and captain of the football team, fainting because a girl had confessed their feelings to her? The rumor would be too juicy. But you also couldnât control yourself when Jackie fell on top of you, eyes closed and mouth open, and it took you approximately ten seconds to take all the information in before you were screaming for help.
The help came in the form of Ben, who had come over running. He frantically looked at the team captain, laying on the grass as you fanned her with your hand, and he ran back inside to get Billâs help.
It didnât take long for the girls to come out of the changing room, and soon enough they pulled the pieces together; your conversation with Van they had told the entire team (which had led to Tai waving around fifteen ten dollar bills around the showers), your nervous attitude over practice, the tension they had felt before they left the two of you aloneâŚ
âHoly shit,â Nat said, smirking as you tried to wake Jackie up. âShe fainted. She actually fainted.â
The story soon spread, faster and more explosive than gunpowder around fire. Soon enough, Jackie Taylorâs untaintable reputation got washed away by the new knowledge that she was a hopeless romantic.
Two months later, people would still whisper about Jackie whenever she walked down the corridors of Wiskayok High School.
âYou think you will still be Class Queen after⌠what happened?â you asked, taking notice of how many students were staring at the two of you.
âOf course,â she smiled that charming smile you loved so much. âIâm Jackie Taylor, baby. This highschool would be nothing without me.â
âYouâre too full of it,â you rolled your eyes.
She wrapped her arm around your waist, pulling you in close to her. She kissed your cheek, smiling.
âIt doesnât bother you?â you asked once you reached your locker. âYâknow, everyone still talking about it?â
âLet them talk. They arenât mean, anyways,â Jackie said, raising her shoulders. You gave her a look; she would never notice just how many people thought ill of her. She thought too kindly of the world, but that made it two of you. âAs long as it makes them talk about how youâre my girlfriend, I donât care.â
You put the books you no longer needed back into your locker, and once you closed it, she pressed you against it.
When her lips pressed against yours, you stopped worrying about the whispers and the teasing from the team; Jackie was right.
Let them talk.

________1996________
Your POVÂ
I drop the pieces of firewood I've collected into the pile on the ground and sit down on the stump to rest for a bit. I've spent the last three hours walking between the woods and the cabin collecting firewood non-stop, and I need a break.
From my vantage point, I can see what some of the girls are doing and I sit there for a moment watching them. Things are a bit tense lately, some of the girls are acting a bit weird and especially Lottie.
After what happened at the Seance a few weeks ago, I've noticed that Lottie has been a bit quieter, more withdrawn and distracted, as if she were in her own world.
This worries me a lot, because I don't know if her behavior could be due to the lack of medication or something else. It's the first time since she was diagnosed that she has gone so long without taking her medication and I don't know what the consequences of this could be.
Taissa: Hey.- she greets me standing next to me. -I've been thinking about something and I want to know if you'd like to join me.- she tells me and I focus my gaze on her.
Y/n: Hey.- I greeted back looking at her with curiosity. -Should I be afraid of what you thought?- I asked her with a certain humor.
Taissa: Considering you're scared of bees... - she mocks me with a big smile.
Y/n: I'm not afraid of bees, I'm allergic to them, ALLERGIC and I could die if they sting me. - I reproach her with an offended grimace.
Taissa: Whatever.- she dismisses me with her hand and a smile. - I've been thinking and I realise we should get out of here in search of help or something to eat. It's possible that the animals are migrating or that there's someone out there.- she tells me and I look at her a bit skeptically.
Y/n: I don't know Tai, if there was someone they would have appeared a long time ago from the noise the plane made against the ground.- I comment somewhat unsure.
Taissa: But what if there is someone or a small town far away enough so that they didn't hear the accident? - she tells me with some confidence. - What if there is a small town or a cabin like this one a few days walk away with people who can help us? - she hypothesizes with a small smile.
Y/n: And if there isn't one? - I ask trying to be realistic, since even with her approach the radius that the noise of the accident would had reached, is very extensive.
Taissa: And if there isn't, maybe we can find animals or something to bring back to camp.- she insists with a confident gesture.
Y/n: I don't know Tai.- I deny getting up from the stump. -I can't just get up and leave Lottie here.- I sigh looking towards where the mentioned one is.
Taissa: Lottie is old enough for you to keep an eye on her.- she assures me, crossing her arms.
Y/n: Are you going to tell me that you haven't noticed a differece in her? - I ask her, focusing my attention back on her.
Taissa: Different? More like a little disturbed.- she comments and I look at her badly, making her throw her hands in the air. -Sorry, it was a joke.- she apologizes immediately. -But still, it's not your responsibility.- she assures me placing a hand on my shoulder.
Y/n: She's my twin sister, of course she's my responsibility.- I remind her with a grimace. -I can't just leave her here for I don't know how many days.- I deny letting out a tired sigh.
Taissa: But you're not leaving her because you want to, but because we're going to go find help or food for everyone. This way you're going to help her a lot more than being behind her all day and worrying about everything she does or says. - she assures me with a slight smile and letting her squeeze my shoulder.
Y/n: I'm not sure.- I murmur trying to think of what is the most appropriate thing to do.
Taissa: Give it a tought and tell me.- she tells me in a calm voice.
We both stand in silence for a few seconds, before a commotion comes from the front of the cabin and out of the woods appear Travis and Nat with a dead deer.
Van: Meat, Fuck Yeah! -she exclaims excitedly as she passes by us quickly.
We all immediately approached them, happy that they were able to hunt and that we could eat something other than belt soup.
Van: Wow, that thing is knarly.-Â she says when both hunters pass by her and she sees the deer's antlers.
Akilah: It's like Freddy Krueger and Bambi had a baby.- she comments with some disgust when they leave the deer on the ground.
Javi: I'm not eating that.-he immediately denies looking at the dead animal.
Ben: Guys, relax.- asks the trainer approaching the deer. -Deer shed their antlers every season. This is normal.- he explains calmly. -Shauna, do the honors?- he asks her, his breathing a little labored from the effort.
Shauna quickly takes the knife out of her backpack, approaches the deer and begins to open its stomach to empty it.
As soon as she opens its stomach, we can all see the worms moving through the deer's organs and I have to look away to avoid throwing up.
Jackie: That's normal too, Coach? - she asks with a disgusted gesture.
Lottie: I'm not crazy.-I hear her mutter in front of me on her knees on the floor.
Laura Lee: No.-she denies in a whisper. -You have a gift.-she assures me and I open my eyes scared at her answer.
Taissa: We cannot keep fucking doing this, you guys.- she assures moving to the side. -What happens when winter gets here? We fucking starve to death or freeze?- she says, upset by the situation. -We can't count on getting rescued anymore. All of us know that is not going to happen, we have to save us.- she says confidently. -That's why I'm gonna go find help. I'm leaving in the morning, come with me if you want to get out of this fucking hellhole. - says as she walks safely into the cabin.
I just stay silent for a few moments, before sighing and walking towards the lake to be alone for a while.
I need to think about what I have to do and it will be impossible to do so near the abaĂąa and the girls. So I walk calmly through the forest, thinking about the pros and cons of going with Taissa or staying with the rest.
Once at the lake, I sit on the shore on the stones and watch the slight movement of the water.
I don't know how long I spend staring at the water, until I hear footsteps behind me and when I look over my shoulder I see Jackie holding a bucket.
Jackie: Hey.- she greets me tiredly, walking towards the shore and filling the bucket with water.
Y/n: Hey.- I greet back watching as she puts the bucket aside and sits next to me. -Do you think Taissa's idea is crazy?- I ask her after a few seconds of silence.
Jackie: I don't know.- she answers with a sigh. -What I do know is that in a certain way she's right and that scares me.- she tells me in a low voice.
Y/n: Is the great captain Jackie Taylor afraid of something? - I asked with humor and receiving a slap on the arm from her.
Jackie: Idiot.- she insults me while laughing and I look at her with a proud smile for making her laugh.
Since the accident, I have noticed that Jackie is the one who is having the most difficulty adapting to the situation and that her mood is increasingly sad.
She is the one who has always been sure that they would come to rescue us and I have realized that with each passing day, that hope of being rescued is disappearing more and more from her eyes.
Y/n: Now seriously, you're afraid that they won't rescue us, right? - I ask her softly.
Jackie: It's been months and still no one has shown up.- she answers me with some apprehension in her voice.
Y/n: That doesn't mean they aren't looking for us.- I tell her to try to cheer her up a little.
Jackie: No, but it doesn't mean they'll find us either.- she whispers, placing her knees against her chest and her chin on them. -We both know that with each day that passes without them finding us, the probability that they'll stop looking for us and leave us for dead increases.- she explains to me with some fear and sadness in her voice.
I sigh with some sadness at her words, because in a way she is right and I don't want to think about it.
I approach the soccer captain, standing just a few inches away from her body and placing my hand on her lower back and moving it in circles to try to comfort her.
She leans into me and places her head on my shoulder relaxing her body against mine.
Y/n: They will find us, I promise.- I whisper against her head, resting my forehead on it. -But I need you to promise me something.- I ask her, swallowing hard.
Jackie: What? - she whispers, getting closer to my body and hugging me around my waist.
Y/n: Promise me that you will take care of Lottie when I'm not here.- I ask her with some fear that the madness I'm doing is permanent.
Jackie: What are you talking about? - she asks me, separating from me and looking at me with concern.
Y/n: I'm going to go with Tai.- I answer and she immediately shakes her head.
Jackie: You can't go, you can't, not you.- she tells me with some panic.
Y/n: I have to do it.- I assure her, looking her in the eyes. -I have to try, Lottie is not well and we can't continue like this much longer. The least I can do is try and seek help.- I explain to her with apprehension about the situation.
Jackie: But what if it doesn't work out? If some wild animal appears, or you guys get lost and can't get back, or any of the thousands of other things that could happen? - she asks me worriedly, waving her hands in an exaggerated manner.
Y/n: Nothing is going to happen.- I assure her, grabbing her hands and trying to calm her down. -The worst that could happen is that we don't find anything and we have to come back empty handed.- I explain to convince her.
Jackie: But what if...- she continues with the possibilities but I interrupt her before she can say anything else.
Y/n: Nothing is going to happen.- I tell her confidently and without taking my gaze off hers.
Jackie: Nothing is going to happen.- she repeats, nodding her head and looking me straight in the eyes.
We stay a few more moments looking into each other's eyes, before she puts her head back on my shoulder and hugs me tightly around the waist.
I put my arms around her shoulders, resting my head on hers and letting the sound of the lake be the only thing that can be heard.
Jackie's POV
It's been two and a half days since Akilah, Van, Taissa, Misty, Y/n and Mari went out in search of something.
As I promised Y/n, I've been keeping an eye on Lottie and talking to her at least a couple of times a day, to see how she's doing.
I try to ask her simple questions, so she doesn't feel like I'm interrogating her and get defensive.
But at most ,she will lose focus during the conversation and stare off into the distance for a few moments before continuing with the conversation like nothing. Which is not entirely worrying.
Plus, she and Laura Lee spend all day together, so it gives me some peace of mind that at least she's not out in the woods alone.
On the other hand, I have discovered that my best friend, the person in whom I had complete trust, has lied to me and betrayed me in the worst possible way.
Our entire friendship based on sincerity and trust has been a farce.
I knew something wasn't right the moment she told me her story with Randy and how she got pregnant.
If what she told me about losing her virginity at Mari's birthday party were to be true, she would have told me as soon as it happened. But she didn't and the biggest lie is that Jeff and I took drunk Randy home that night.
So it couldn't have been after we left and it couldn't have been before either, since Shauna was with me, Jeff and some of her friends all night.
But I didn't know that the reason for her lie and the person she actually slept with was my boyfriend.
My best friend has betrayed me in the worst way possible and has slept with my boyfriend. Also, in her diary are written all the times they did it and it wasn't just once, it was several times.
I don't know how she could do this to me, sleep with my own boyfriend and then get pregnant by him. How could she do this to me. How can she look at me in the eyes and lie in my face with no trace of guilt.
I don't even know how to look at her face without imagining them together, without feeling betrayed and imagining everything else she could have lied to me about.
I quickly get up from my chair when I see Misty, Mari and Akilah appearing through the forest, almost out of breath.
Jackie: Oh, my god. What happened?- I ask them, walking quickly and holding Misty before she fell to the ground.
Shauna: Where are Van, Tai and Y/n? -she asks, also getting up from her chair.
Misty: She...she told...she told us to leave them. We had to get help.-she tells us as best she can between breaths and Nat and Shauna grab her.
Lottie: Where is Y/n?-she asks Mari with a certain panic in her voice.
Laura Lee: Show us which way to go.- she asks her, grabbing her by the shoulders and staring at her.
Misty points to the path they came from and we all quickly set off.
We run quickly, following the instructions and directions given to us by Misty, who is at the head of everyone.
After running for a while, the darkness begins to hide everything around us and we decide that the best thing to do is to walk. So, lighting some lanterns, we walk quickly, looking everywhere.
Shauna: Van! - she shouts from in front of me.
Laura Lee: Taissa!- she shouts loudly from the front of the group.
Lottie: Y/n!- she shouts from behind me with obvious concern.
Laura Lee: Are you sure you came this way? -she asks the one leading us through the darkness.
Misty: I.. I don't know. I can't see anything.- she answers with uncertainty in her voice. -It's so dark.-she says looking around.
We stopped for a few seconds to catch our breath and looked around for something to guide us. It was then that we heard a noise and saw one of the flares rising between the trees.
Laura Lee: It's them.-she points with her finger and we quickly start running in that direction.
We run for a couple of minutes between the trees, immediately spotting the three of them on their knees on the ground and looking very bad.
Lottie: Y/n!- she exclaims, running towards her brother and kneeling next to him on the ground.
When we get closer we can see why the urgency, as Van has her face covered with rags and we can see the blood on her clothes. As can the pale color on Taissa and Y/n's faces.
We set off immediately, with most of the girls carrying Van, Misty and Laura Lee helping Tai, and Lotti and I carrying her brother.
As I help him up from the floor, I place a hand on his side and feel something cold and wet against my palm.
I raise my hand to my face, feeling my heart racing in my ears and my throat feeling dry as I swallow. I open my eyes, startled, when I make out the reddish color of blood in the light from the lanterns.
Jackie: Y/n.- I murmur scared seeing the boy's pale and sweaty face.
Misty: We have to get them there as soon as possible so we can stitch up their wounds.- she says hurriedly, encouraging us to walk as quickly as possible to the cabin.
So as quickly as possible, we managed to get to the cabin in record time and the girls got going.
Misty: Who goes first? - she asks as they clear the table, place candles around it, and Akilah searches for the materials.
Y/n: Van has to go first.- he answers in a low voice. -She is worse than me, I can hold on.- he assures the group with a small grimace.
Shauna: Van, are you ready? - she asks as they lay her down on the candlelit table.
The redhead lets out a grunt of pain, as Lottie and I place Y/n into one of the chairs.
Misty: We have to take off his clothes from the waist up. - She approaches us and reaches out her hands to do it.
Jackie: No.- I stop her immediately. -Lottie and I will do it.- I assure her, standing in front of her so she doesn't come any closer.
Misty: With the shirt you will have to press the wound to stop it from bleeding further.- she explains to me and I nod knowing what I have to do.
I turn towards the injured boy, approaching with uncertain steps and observing him in more detail thanks to the light from the cabin.
The black haired man, his green eyes are half-closed due to tiredness, has lost all the color in his face, you can see the sweat soaking his face and the locks of hair that are normally pushed back are stuck to his forehead.
On the other hand, the blue t-shirt and the grey sweatshirt are covered in dirt and blood, as are his jeans.
I quickly approach him, aware that he is not in a very good condition and that every minute is worth gold.
Lottie: You're going to be okay.- she whispers, stroking his hair. -Nothing's going to happen to you, It won't let anything happen to you.- she assures him with conviction and I look at her a little scared by the tone in which she is saying it.
Jackie: Lottie, help me take off his clothes.- I ask my teammate in a hurry.
Y/n: Damm Jackie, I knew you had the hots for me. - he scoffs with sense of humor, letting out a grunt when we move him to take off his sweatshirt.
Jackie: In your dreams.- I tell him with a slight smile, to try to ease the tension and play along.
When we managed to remove his shirt, you can see the wound on his side and it doesn't look good at all.
You can see the wolf's teeth and the cuts they left behind. There are at least five long cuts and about seven fairly large perforations on the side of his stomach and back.
You can see the blood gushing from the wounds and I have to hold back my gagging at the image.
Jackie: This is going to hurt.- I whispered softly, before placing his shirt over the wounds and pressing with both hands to stop the bleeding.
Y/n: Fuck.- he grunts in pain trying to get away from my hands.
Jackie: Lottie hold him.- I ask her, making her grab him by the shoulders and hold him still.
I press my hands against the wounds again and this time thanks to Lottie, Y/n doesn't get away from my hands no matter how hard he tries.
But Lottie's strength is affected when Akilah starts stitching Van up and she starts to let out pain-filled grunts.
The brunette immediately sits on the floor, placing her knees against her chest and covering her ears with the palms of her hands.
Y/n: Lot, don't listen.- he growls trying to get his sister's attention. -Lot, look at me.- he stretches his hands towards her with great effort. -Charlotte Matthews look at me right now.- he orders her and she surprisingly does it. -Come closer.- he asks her with a sigh.
Lottie walks over to her brother and he immediately pulls her close to his body. As I apply pressure to his wound, I can hear him whispering things to his sister to reassure her and distract her from what's happening on the other side of the room.
But after a few moments, I stop hearing the whispers from Y/n and I look at his closed eyes.
Jackie: Shit! - I exclaimed scared, stopping pressing on the wound and grabbing his cheeks. -Y/n, wake up. Keep your eyes open, wake up! - I exclaimed hitting him on the cheek trying to get him to react but nothing.
Lottie: Y/n.- she whispers, separating herself from her brother's thigh and looking at him scared. -It's not your turn.- she murmurs confused, placing her hand on her brother's bare chest.
Jackie: Girls hurry up, Y/n has lost consciousness! - I shout for them to hear me, without stopping hitting the boy's cheeks and trying to wake him up.
Natalie: Don't fuck with me.- she growls when she reaches us and takes his pulse. -Does anyone else know how to sew?- she asks the girls with some panic.
Misty: Me! - she exclaims quickly raising her hand.
I look at Nat, a little unsure and worried that Misty will stitch up Y/n's wound and I can see that she feels the same as me.
Natalie: We have no choice.- she murmurs, looking at me with apprehension. -Misty, grab a needle and thread quickly. We'll put him on the floor.- she says, grabbing him by one of his arms.
I do the same and with Lottie's help we get him on the ground as quickly as possible.
Misty: I have everything.- she tells us, throwing herself on her knees beside us. -I need more light.- she tells us while she begins to put the thread on the curved needle for fishing.
Nat: I'm going to get more candles.- she says getting up and I do the same with her.
We both grab some candles and run back to where Y/n, Lottie and Misty are. We place the candles on the ground near the wound, lighting them so Misty can see what she's stitching.
I swallow hard, feeling my hands shake from fear and worry that Y/n will die.
I move to the other side of Misty, kneeling at his hip and grabbing his hand. I bring the hand to my chest, praying that Misty will stitch him up quickly so that the bleeding stops and he can survive.
Your POV
I pull the chair over next to Jackie's and sit down a bit carefully, trying not to let the stitches pull too hard. But I can't help but let out a little grunt as I lean forward and take my share of the bear meat.
Jackie: Are you okay? - she asks me in a whisper, placing her hand on my thigh and leaving a light squeeze there.
Y/n: Yeah, I just moved too fast.- I play it down with a smile and she returns it.
She also leans forward and receives her plate with her ration from the redhead, while the others talk about whether we should wait for Nat and Travis or not.
Van: Lottie, last night you said we wouldn't be hungry much longer. How did you know? -she asks my sister and I feel my body tense immediately.
Everything that happened last night was absolutely crazy and I don't know what the hell went through their heads to make them act the way they did.
Because the mushroom excuse doesn't work for me, since we're all supposed to have eaten them and not all of us tried to sacrifice Travis. Especially not with the way my own sister, Shauna, and Mari jumped on me when I came down from the attic with Jackie, before Travis showed up completely out of it and they jumped on him immediately.
Lottie: I just did.-she answers, chewing what she has in her mouth.
Y/n: She didn't know anything, it was pure coincidence, okay? - I say seriously and avoiding looking at my sister at all costs.
Jackie: Yeah, it's called getting lucky.- she supports me, giving my thigh another squeeze. - The bear probably just smelled us and came looking for food, okay? Probably had something wrong with him. - she says in a logical way to take a bite of her meat.
Misty: It didn't look sick.-she denies sitting to my right.
Mari: Honestly, at this point I don't even think I care.- she says sitting at the table. -Can we just eat?- she asks, wanting to leave the subject aside.
Van: Wait.- she asks, drawing everyone's attention. -Should we maybe... say something? Like... like thanks or grace or.. whatever-Â she asks, somewhat unsure.
The dining room falls completely silent for a few moments, during which no one knows what to say or how to act in response to the question.
Taissa: Yeah.-she nods, leaving her glass on the table. -Just make it quick.-she asks her girlfriend and I can't help the frustrated grunt that escapes me.
Van: Lot?- she asks my sister and I can only roll my eyes and continue eating.
Lottie: Sure, let's join our hands.-she says leaving her ration aside and shaking hands with the trainer and Shauna.
From my peripheral vision, I see a hand approaching from my right, so I look up from my plate and see Misty holding out her hand to me.
I just stare at her for a few seconds, alternating my gaze between her eyes and her hand, before shaking my head and turning my head towards Jackie, seeing that she thinks the same as me.
Lottie: For this gift from the wilderness, we give our thanks.-she begins to say and my right knee begins to bounce from the tension.
Van: Thank you.- she says to my sister's words, urging her to continue.
Lottie: To the spirit of the bear, who sacrificed so that we could survive, we give our thanks.-she says and they all give thanks. -And to the ancient gods of the sky and the dirt, we give our thanks.-it continues and everyone thanks again.
Misty: You two didn't say it.-she whispers looking at the girl to my left and me. -Jackie and Y/n didn't say it.- she accuses us loudly so that everyone present knows.
Y/n: The fuck is your problem?-I asked the curly-haired blonde with a murderous look.
Jackie: No, I didn't thank the dirt for bringing us a brain-dead bear. What is even happening right now? -she asks, impressed by the group's attitude. -The fuck is wrong with you all?- she asks the girls, leaning forward.
Taissa: It's fine, you guys. They don't have to... -she comes to our defense but the team captain interrupts her.
Jackie: Oh, shut up Tai.- she scoffs at her. -Don't pretend like you weren't a part of it. What, we're... we're just not going to talk about it? - she asks everyone present. -We just howl at the moon now and have fucking orgies or support incest?- she says and I tense up even more at the last thing she said. -And somehow we are the ones who did something wrong? -She shrugs her shoulders, angry at the whole situation.
Ben: Whoa, wait, what?- he asks completely surprised by what he just heard.
Shauna: Jackie, calm down.-she asks her best friend, but I can see that this only makes her angrier.
Jackie: Don't tell me to calm down!-she exclaims angrily, getting up from her chair. - What were you gonna do to Travis last night, Sahuna? - she asks, approaching her and crossing her arms. -Answer me.-she asks after a few seconds of silence.
Shauna: I don't know. I don't remember. -she answers with some uncertainty, her gaze fixed on the ground.
Jackie: Bullshit.-she reproaches, not believing what she has just heard. -You had a knife to his throat. If we hadn't come, you would have killed him.- she accuses her with total honesty.
Shauna: Just shut up!-she exclaims angrily, getting up from her seat. -None of this would have happened if it wasn't for you. If you hadn't...-she accuses quickly, approaching her without finishing the sentence.
Jackie: Hadn't what? Huh?-she asks without reacting to his proximity. -Stolen him? Wow. The irony.- she scoffs again. -Shauna was fucking Jeff behind my back, you know that?- she asks and I open my eyes in surprise. -Yeah. That's who's really responsible for her little bundle of joy.-she tells everyone present and I stare at her, worried about her.
Shauna: It was you.-she accuses her with a certain hurt tone. -You read my journal.-she explains without taking her eyes off the one who was her best friend.
Jackie: How could you? - she accuses her with pain in her voice. -You were my best friend. You.. you.. you don't even like him.-she says in a hurt face.
Shauna : And how would you know? - she asks her angrily with a broken voice. -You're so obsessed with yourself, I'm surprised I'm aware other people even exist.-she reproaches this time with some malice.
Y/n: Girls, I think it's best to stop now.- I say, getting up and leaving the empty plate aside.
Shauna: You know you never even asked me if I wanted to go to Rutgers? You just assumed I would go wherever you wanted.-She reproaches her with more and more annoyance in her voice. -You tell me what to wear, what to do, who to hook up with. I don't even like soccer!-shouts the last part. -But you just get everything you want. All the time like it's nothing. And the rest of us, we are just extras in the movie of your fucking life.- she accuses her angrily and with some pain in her tone.
Jackie: Oh, my God. You are such a clichĂŠ.-Â she exclaims, hurt and upset by what she just said. -Oh, is the.. is the sad little sidekick mad?- she asks with a certain sarcasm. -Did I force you to live in my shadow, Shauna? It must be hard being this jealous all the time.-she says, earning a short laugh in response.
Y/n: Girls, seriously, stop.- I ask them taking a couple of steps towards them, but a hand on my sweatshirt stops me. -What are you doing?- I ask Van confused and she shakes her head.
Jackie: What? You're so fucking jealous of me, you can barely breathe.-she reproaches Shipman, hurt and angry with her.
Shauna: Are you quoting Beaches at me right now? - she asks with a gesture of confusion.
Jackie: What? No.-she denies, confused by the question.
Shauna: I'm not jealous of you, Jackie. I fell sorry for you. Because you're weak and I think that deep down, you know it. - she says taking a few steps towards her. -I'm sure everyone back home is so fucking sad to be losing their perfect little princess, but they will never know how tragic and boring and insecure you really are.- she continues without measuring her words. -Or how high school was the best your life was ever going to get.-she finishes saying in a somewhat aggressive way and I can see the damage those words are doing to Jax.
Jackie: Fuck you.-she says with a slightly broken voice. -That's it. You know what? That's it. Get.. get out.-she orders pointing to the cabin door.
Y/n: Jax, stop.-I ask her, trying to get closer, but the redhead keeps holding me by the clothes and preventing me from doing so.
Jackie: Go on, get out.-she repeats with a little more force.
Shauna: No.- she shakes her head, her eyes wide.
Jackie: I can't be around you, I... I can't even fucking look at you right now.- She says completely hurt.
Shauna: Well, that sounds like your problem. So maybe you should leave.-she ignores the order and stands in her place while maintaining eye contact.
Everyone remains completely silent for a few seconds, processing the words of the two friends and the situation that is happening at this moment.
Mari: Maybe you would be better off, since we're all so crazy.-she reproaches the captain, supporting Shauna.
Ben: Okay, everybody just stop. Nobody is going outside.-he orders us all seriously.
Lottie: Stay out of it, Coach.-she tells him with a murderous look.
Y/n: No, you stay out of it. You already did enough last night.-I say to my twin, giving her a dirty look, angry and fed up with her attitude.
Jackie: You know what? Fine.-she says walking towards the sleeping things and grabbing her blanket and pillow.
Taissa: Jackie, come on. Don't go outside.-she asks her friend, somewhat tired.
Jackie: Don't pretend like this isn't what you wanted the entire fucking time.- she responds with obvious anger.
Y/n: Don't be silly, Jax.- I ask her, releasing myself from Van's grip and walking towards her. -The temperatures are dropping and sleeping outside is dangerous.- I assure her, worried about her.
Jackie: I don't care, I'm not going to be where I'm not wanted and clearly this isn't it.- she denies looking me in the eyes. -I don't even know who you are anymore.-she says to the one who was her best friend.
Shauna: Or maybe you never did.-she assures her and that is all she needs to leave the cabin and slam the door.
The room is tensely silent for a few moments, until I hear a murmur and explode.
Y/n: What the hell is wrong with you two? - I ask completely angry. - We are all here together, for better and for worse, and no one has more right than anyone to be in the cabin. - I comment looking at the pregnant girl. - And let me tell you that as a friend, you leave a lot to desire. Not only have you betrayed your best friend, but you have dumped all your frustration on her and used her insecurities against her to hurt her. What kind of best friend does that? - I ask her completely impressed by her evilness.
Shauna: You don't know anything.- she claims, directing her anger towards me.
Y/n: And I don't need to know.- I deny between my teeth. -With what I just saw, it seems more than enough to know what kind of person you are and believe me, you are not the type I want by my side in a situation like the one we are in.- I finish looking at her with repulsion, before grabbing two blankets and a pillow to leave the cabin.
Lottie: You can't go out.- she forbids me, standing in front of the door so I can't open it.
Y/n: Charlotte, get out of the way right now.- I ordered her, annoyed by her attitude.
Lottie: No.- she denies strongly and crosses her arms.
Y/n: You move or I move you. But I'm not staying here with you two. - I assure her, looking at her with my eyes half closed.
Lottie: No.- she repeats in a slower manner, but with the same authoritative tone of voice.
Y/n: You asked for it.- I remind her grabbing her by the arm and pulling her to the side, trying not to use too much force to hurt her, but enough to move her.
Once I push her away from the door, I open it and walk outside, slamming the door behind me.
At the sound of the door, Jackie turns her head towards me at the noise and frowns when she sees me.
I just walk towards her, dropping the things in my arms to the ground and sitting on the wooden log carefully.
Jackie: What are you doing? - she asks me in a low and broken voice without taking her eyes off me.
Y/n: Keeping you company.- I answer shrugging my shoulders. -You're crazy if you think I'm going to leave you here alone and stay in there with them.- I explain looking at her as if she were crazy, causing a small laugh from her at my gesture.
Jackie: Thank you.- she whispers looking at her hands.
Y/n: You don't have to thank me for anything.- I assure her with an amused grimace.
I put one of my arms over her shoulders, pulling her close to my body. I place a kiss on her forehead, feeling her snuggle up against my chest and hug my waist tightly, but careful of my wounds.
She looks up at me, placing a hand on the back on my neck and pulling at It to join our lips in a soft kiss. When she pulls away, her eyes shine full off life ande a small smile appears in her face.
We just sit together outside watching the sun disappear and observing the flames of the fire move in the darkness of the forest night.
