African Matabele ants are able to detect and treat their own wounds! The ants main food source, termites, are known to fight back, causing lots of injuries along the way. Luckily for the ants, the colony can sense the injury and even produce an antibiotic to treat it! The ants will take their patient home and lick their wounds carefully. If an ant goes untreated, there’s a 90% chance they’ll DIE in 24 hours.
