Arthur cared not for the blistering flesh of his arms, only Merlin blackened and coughing in his lap.

Voices, hooves came.

He covered his mouth.

They died away, leaving just the wind in the leaves.

Arthur’s whispered agonised apologies as Merlin wheezed for air.

“Go back, Arthur,” he pressed out. “You’re supposed to-”

“I don’t care what fate or your dragon has to say! I promised.”

Tears tracked through soot. “…Please.”

Arthur smeared them away. “Merlin… I can't manage without you. We’ll run.” 

Merlin laughed brokenly. “And if I can’t run?” 

A kiss, all ash and salt. “Need you ask?”

"You don't know me. I'm not the same person anymore."

"That's okay. I'll get to know you again."

youre trying to find entry levels jobs but they all require at least four years of knighthood or a lordship, the listings are only ever things like "stable cleaner, $7/hr" or "king of the realm, $120k annual, REQUIRED: sword from the lady of the lake"

ok you found a posting youre qualified for. now list list all of your conquests and all your chivalric values on your resume and then add your resume as a pdf and now also rewrite them in the boxes that auto populated and fix the formatting

and you cant tell older generations all of that because theyll just tell you about how they got their job by walking into a royal court and swearing fealty to the first king they saw and being granted a knighthood on the spot. literally if you try to do that these days the archers on the castle turrets will get you before the rattling of your armor is even within earshot

"Uther punished many magic users, including those who were unfortunate enough to be visiting here. One particular one cursed him to be a Llama before the fire overtook her."

"And the curse is unbreakable?"

"Oh no. Anyone with a basic knowledge on curses and magic could break it."

"Then why?"

"Because that would require magic. And the King knows that."

learning about plants in ur area is wild. like you also learn about the histories of the plants. Like oh! Thats garlic mustard! That was brought over from europe as a crop! it smells just like garlic and you can cook with it!  And thats yarrow!  Its been used for tons of stuff and pollinators love it! Oh hey! Thats hemlock! They killed Socrates with that!
