It Is Always Bizarre To Me When People Act Like Science Has Never Been Wrong And Can’t Do Any Harm

It is always bizarre to me when people act like science has never been wrong and can’t do any harm when in reality our views of science have been wrong countless times and science has been used to harm billions of people throughout history. People will try to tell me about every single doctor or scientific entity that believes [blank] about fat people, meanwhile the person telling me this is gay, trans, a person of color, disabled, a woman, poor, intersex, or literally any other marginalized identity under the sun that has been systematically harmed by scientific bodies and the medical field in the past (or even still in current day).

People who know that bloodletting used to be seen as the solution to every single ailment a person can have, or who have heard that scientific beliefs from the past included holding your breath as a method of contraception, will think that there is no way any medical professional could be wrong about fatness today. There are fellow American citizens upset at how the CDC can dissolve Covid-19 safety guidelines in favor of keeping an economy and the top 1% making money, and yet those same people who are seeing that the CDC is not unaffected by corruption and capitalism will still send me links to the CDC’s webpage on “ob*sity” as if it’s indisputable fact. And the people who keep trying to throw at me random studies they didn’t read and found on the first page of Google search results will willingly close their eyes when I show them studies from my own research proving them wrong.

It is incredible how billions of people think that the science on fatness, a complex aspect of human diversity, is completely correct and devoid of any bias or faulty logic. Meanwhile those same people will be on their 20th diet in ten years, all of which have failed, and not once question if maybe the current ideas about dieting, health, weight loss, and fatness are possibly flawed. We still have no cure or even explanation for thousands of diseases and conditions, we don’t even understand something as basic as dreams or hiccups, yet you think the science on fatness is all figured out?
