"the Jedi Don't Have Therapists-"

"the jedi don't have therapists-"

jedi philosophy, and in particular the practices and teachings that jedi were expected to implement in their everyday lives, was therapy. dialectical behavior therapy (dbt), to be exact. anyone who's familiar with dbt knows where i'm already going with this, but like genuinely look up the basic tenets of dbt and it's identical with what the jedi were doing.

dbt, to put it simply, is a specific therapy technique that was designed for ptsd and past trauma. it's pretty different from traditional talk therapy. it combines a few different environments (individual, group, etc.), recognizing that no single format of treatment can stand alone.

the key focuses of dbt include:

emotional regulation- understanding, being more aware of, and having more control over your emotions

mindfulness- regulating attention and avoiding anxious fixation on the past or future

interpersonal effectiveness- navigating interpersonal situations

distress tolerance- tolerating distress and crises without spiraling and catastrophizing

i'm sure it's already clear from that list alone how much the jedi teachings correspond with the goals of dbt. the jedi value, teach, and practice the following:

identifying and understanding emotions

mindfulness and living in the present

compassion, diplomacy, and conflict resolution (on interpersonal scales, not just planetary or galactic)

accepting and tolerating certain levels of distress or discomfort (particularly mental, such as discomfort at the thought of losing a loved one to death)

idk man seems almost as if jedi mental health practices and dbt are two sides of a completely identical coin. (fun fact: both star wars and dbt are products of the 70s.)

and guess what? dbt was specifically designed as a treatment for borderline personality disorder. remember that one? or, if you don't, maybe you remember a specific character, the one who was literally used as an example by my professor in my undergrad psych class when she was teaching us about bpd?

"the Jedi Don't Have Therapists-"

tldr: simply existing within the jedi community, practicing jedi teachings, surrounded by a support network of other jedi of all life stages, was the therapy for anakin. even when viewed through a modern lens. it was even, more specifically, the precise type of therapy that has developed in modern times to treat the exact types of mental issues he was struggling with.

Thought It’d Be Fun To Design Cover Art For Some Of My Fave Multi-chapter Dinluke Fics!

Thought it’d be fun to design cover art for some of my fave multi-chapter Dinluke fics!

I don’t have any plans beyond the sketches, I hope the authors like them as they are;;

Where Hope is Persevering by @thewriterowl

“Then what are you? They were looking for a Jedi.” The blaster remained locked on his face.

“I…” Don’t know. He wasn’t a Sith, his eyes never turned and he found fighting out of anger and hate towards another life something that wasn’t in him. But he wasn’t a Jedi either. He wasn’t anything.

Luke has been living in Vader and the Emperor’s hands for years until a call in the Force pushes him to escape and find a special child and his magnetic father who has a call from destiny of his own.

The Father the Son and the Exile by @sushiburritonoms

Din looked at the figure on the monitor for a moment and then opened his mouth to ask someone to open the doors--but then the Jedi moved first. It turned off its sword and returned it to its side. It stood there, facing the doors, its cloak bobbing up and down with its breaths. For a second, Din thought it was about to use its abilities to force the doors open.

Then the Jedi abruptly turned and stalked away, back up the hallway and towards the elevator.

An alternate universe tale where Force visions warn Luke about Ben Solo several decades earlier but the consequences still force him to go on the run, this time directly into the path of Din Djarin.

A Closed Book by @aureutr

“Luke Skywalker,” He paused a beat, then his smile became absolutely blinding , “You’ve never heard of me?”

“No.” Nor was Din interested.

Canon divergence. There was no Seeing Stone on Tython and Din never met Luke on Gideon’s ship but circumstances still brought them together.

Lost & Found by @jofngve

Luke is not entirely sure how he is supposed to handle a situation like this.

"Uh," the Mandalorian says, it fizzles through the modulator. The small girl he is holding in his arms looks up from where she has hidden her face in his neck. "Yeah, so this is Rey."

Just write the thing. for 5 minutes. If there's more than 5 minutes of work, great. If not, you had the 5 minutes

Does anyone else just randomly picture Luke Skywalker (Original Trilogy version not the Disney version) taking a bubble bath and just using the force to make the bubbles float in the air above him and around his head? Or is that just me?

Snippet from chapter 11 of You Are Safe, You Are Home

Luke sighed as he sat planning out his garden while Din sat through council meetings. He hadn’t wanted Din working blindly so he decided to finally start planning out his garden. Ideally he’d like trees in it. Brylark, Dewdrop, Heart Berry, and Willow, specifically.

Brylark because he had a Wookie Padawan already who specifically wanted his lightsaber hilt to be wooden and it would be nice to have access to it for his temple, even at the cost of his own personal garden. Dewdrop because they were pretty and he really liked the fruit on the one occasion he had gotten to try it. Heart Berry in case he didn’t feel like the Dewdrop fruit, and Willow because it was an important part of folklore on Casiey’s home world.

Sadly because they were underground he likely couldn’t have trees in it, so he’d skip them entirely, even if something felt so right about adding trees to it. He supposed he could do two versions, one for if they could grow trees and one without. He'd have to talk to Din about it tonight.

He stretched as he leaned back in his chair. So far he’d planned mostly flowers, some ivy, and ferns. He wanted to add a few herbs here and there, but he wasn’t sure what to add specifically. Maybe some nysillin or twin-scented natterbloom? Behot was originally native to Mandalore; maybe he could plant some in his garden.

Luke sighed. He was getting nowhere with this.

Staring at the hologram of the garden so far he brushed his fingers over the flickering image of Queen's Heart. He had so many other flowers, multiple types of roses, black lilies, bluebell squish, aura blossoms, millaflower, vomur, vanserv, sunburst, sun-dew.

Star flowers would be hard to find now that Alderaan was gone but if anyone could do it it was Din.

So many other flowers he’d added, but he kept bringing himself back to Queen’s Heart, the flower his mother had planted all over Theed when she was Queen.

A choked sob escaped his throat. He wanted his mom right now. Wanted her to hold him and tell him everything was going to be okay. Tell him how she and his father managed to make things work when they had to be separated almost all the time. Maybe give him some tips about ruling an entire planet? He wasn’t sure, he just wanted his mother. Wanted some memory of her or something to keep her with him.
