A/N’s NOTE: Did I write a Tadashi-inspired fic from Big Hero 6? Yes. And we all know that Jongdae is the real-life Tadashi here (he does look like him *sobs*). However, since the nation's vocalist is married, I'll hand it to my second bias in EXO okay bye.

Feeling compressed and squashed under the pressure of the unforgiving hours of relentless working, your mind almost went into short-circuit mode at the expanse of creating. It was already after dark that you have concluded parts of the draft you have brought to life. Being this late and nearly all alone among your peers inside the research lab of your university was something usual for you to partake.

A yawn inevitably escaped your lips as you pivoted your head to take a look at the clock. It was already in the middle of the night, and a hint of unwillingness to end for tonight was screwed in your face. However, the stripes of drowsiness were threatening to take over, and you might just possibly end up sleeping here again.

Exhausted as if being weighted under by a large elephant, you manage to pull your legs to stand and face by the window where the work you’ve been producing was standing with cables and wires attached.

Exhaling exaggeratedly as to combat the stress, you come face to face with your genetically engineered bionic person.

Ironically, you have no idea how you came about, not until your professor announced a robotics project, and made someone like him. Yes, he was a he, considering the said robot had male-like features; he has a round face with a pointed chin and sharp jawline, petite lips and monolids. But if one were to come close by and separate a distinct trait, it would be the feline-like eyes of his that were intense yet mesmerizing that he opened once when you activated him for the first time back then. You named him Minseok, but to the outside world his name was X1UM1N.

And now, this was probably the…you howled quietly. You have lost count of the many times you’ve switched him up and this was already an infinite number of how many hours you’ve operated on him.

“Alright,” you muttered to yourself. “This is…probably the 74th time I’m going to set you up. Please don’t screw up.”

Correction, you should tell that to yourself and not to your robot. Minseok stood there, eyes still closed through his glasses, with whiffs of his raven hair curling at his forehead. You could not help but be in awe of how good he looked. You customized Minseok around your age however from his looks, you were almost fooled he was younger.

Gently taking Minseok’s left hand, you pressed the hidden button on his pulse that soon lit up green. You stepped backwards, waiting for the cables and wires to be detached from him as he shot up straight, seemingly preparing to come to life.

Breath caught in the throat, you observed as his eyes slowly opened, the irises painted green before reducing to a color of onyx. His gaze were straightforward until his tilted his head down towards you, blinking in surprise and familiarity, as you did the same gesture.

The two of you had stared longer than a minute, with Minseok furrowing his eyebrows as if to take in your aspects meanwhile you shuddered. You had created him so human-like you probably could not pinpoint a difference. From the previous schedules you had to bring him to life, he gestured like any other human there is. There was a charm to Minseok and warmth that was in the form of his gummy smile and adorable movements which were perceived as a part of his forming personality over the many times you’d fix him for improvement.

But now, you pleaded silently, that Minseok would be okay the more he interacts and is activated. That all numerous test you’d done on him will now be worth it. That all your hard work is endowed.

You were snapped out of your thoughts once you saw his face up close to you, his onyx eyes turning a shade of pink. You jumped a bit at the closeness to which Minseok only returned with a frown and unswerving himself up after bending down to look at you. A few words of exchange were prepared in your head, but your mouth hung open once he beat you to it.

“Y/N? Am I a bother?”

You blinked. For a moment, the robot became a source of amazement before concluding how dumb you must think. Of course, Minseok would definitely talk.

Shaking your head immediately, you brought up a hand at his arm. “N-no,” you muttered. “Why…why would you think that?”

His eyebrows were further brought together. “Because you flinched away and I’m supposed to bring comfort.”

You slightly blushed at his words. This was your robotics project but…maybe you made him for you were a bit lonely. Maybe you made him because you wanted someone by your side. Maybe…just maybe, you might like to have a partner.

Yet your bubble was popped once you realized Minseok called you by your name. For the months you’ve constructed him, never you did utter your name. You only talked to him out of your scrutinizing and not your personal life.

“Wait, Minseok…” you started. “I never told you my name.”

“Oh,” a surprised reaction came from him. “I know.”

“How?”

He smiled, showing again his signature gummy smile which made you melt from the inside. “In here,” he pointed at his chest, which was covered by a black shirt. Your eyes were drawn to where he led his finger, until a little screen popped against his upper body.

“Okay,” your eyes dilated once you saw a video of yourself through the small monitor and hearing your voice. “This is test number 1 and I’m about to examine my…uh, android, for the first time for my robotics project.”

You were about to turn him on when someone called you. “Y/N!” you heard your block mate. “C’mon! We’re going to be late for class.”

“Aish,” you bit your lip, torn between continuing on Minseok or be early in class. You breathed out, knowing the answer unfortunately.

“I’ll come back later Minseok, okay?”

The scene shifted; it was still the same setting however, you saw yourself getting exasperated.

“Okay, Minseok. Let’s do this. This is…uh, damn it. The 35th test.”

You pressed the hidden button on Minseok’s pulse. As you waited, a whirring sound came out of nowhere which made you soon cut off the video.

You laughed to yourself as Minseok looked on. It changed again; this time you were looking at the screen as you rubbed your face with your hands.

“Oh my God…I’m so sorry. I’m a bit tired but...this is the 57th time I’m taking you on, bud.”

Doing the same routine, the experiment was almost done however, something sparked, which led to the black out of the whole room. However, the video was not yet done as you flashed a light against the monitor.

“Damn Minseok, you’re a handful. But I’m not giving up on you, okay?”

The sequence of the clip was now conducted to a bright sunny afternoon; a mix of hopefulness and nervousness was apparent on you.

“Okay. This is Engr. Y/N L/N recording for my robotics project for the…uh, let me see. 70th test. Going to bring Minseok, or X1UM1N, to life and see how far we’d have to go.”

A repetition of what you had to do to get going Minseok, you waited…and waited.

“Hello. I am Minseok but you may call me X1UM1N. How may I give you my assistance?”

“WHAT THE!” you couldn’t almost believe it as you turned around in glee. “IT WORKED! YOU WORKED!”

You collected yourself before facing the screen again. “Thank you. Thank you for hanging on. I still have to fix you somehow, but…really. Thank you.”

And that’s when the scene slowly faded into nothingness.

Silence engulfed the two of you as you can only hear the heavy panting coming out of your mouth. Tears almost protruded out of your line of vision, trying to hide it yet Minseok saw you through that and immediately came to wrap his arms around you like a mother caressing her baby.

“What’s wrong?” he asked as he gently runs his thumb over your cheek.

You shook your head. “Nothing…it’s just….my hard work. It paid off well.”

Minseok batted his eyelashes before chuckling. “Of course, Y/N. You did me very well, and don’t worry.”

You glanced up at him, and you swore you saw constellations in his orbs.

“I’m here,” he pressed a kiss to your forehead. Warming yourself in his arms, you thought, the whole process of inventing him took a lot of time, of patience, of sweat, blood, and tears.

And now he’s here.
