if somebody hasn't already asked: may we please hear about your gotham rogues inferno placements? (sincerely, this sounds awesome)
Thank you! β€οΈπ₯° So i've been mulling it over in my head all day and here's what I have:
First Circle (Limbo) - Catwoman & Red Hood.
Placing both Selina and Jason in limbo is very representative of their duality in how they straddle the line between hero and villain. Both have a tendency to do the right thing where it counts but that shouldn't wipe out their other sins and the wrong they are willing to do to get ahead in their wants.
Second Circle (Lust) - Harley Quinn & Mad Hatter.
Both characters are driven by their desires. Harley is a victim of her own desires, her need for a strong figure to help shape and guide her actions and that has led her to her relationships with both Joker and Ivy and the carnage each have caused. Hatter is often guided by his delusional lust for an unobtainable ideal, his perfect Alice, and this goal has led to much of his evils.
Third Circle (Gluttony) - Penguin & Killer Croc.
Oswald is a man who values and enjoys the finer things in life. He has tasted hardship and he commits unspeakable acts to ensure that he never has to settle for the very best, be it his wine or his meals. Croc is being put here for his habit of human consumption. While it's not gluttony in the purest sense, I think it fits better than many of the other circles.
Fourth Circle (Greed) - Deadshot & Riddler.
Deadshot is an assassin for hire which makes his crimes a direct result of his greed and so this is most fitting for him. Riddler's greed comes more from his incessant desire to have everything which he feels is due to him. He craves attention, money, power, being the very best in what he does. His greed is relentless.
Fifth Circle (Anger) - Poison Ivy & Scarecrow.
Both Ivy and Crane are creatures fueled by rage. Ivy's rage towards mankind is unmistakable and leads her to cruelty towards her own people. Crane's hatred of mankind is more subtle but just as strong. He hates what the world has taken from him and punishes those who cross his path by forcing them to feel as miserable as he does.
Sixth Circle (Heresy) - Solomun Grundy & Mr Freeze.
The heresy of both men concerns their connections with death. Grundy is a walking zombie, an abomination which straddles the line of life and death with every step. Mr Freeze is a sadder figure but he also actively cheats death by forcing his wife to exist in a state of suspended animation and that's a mortal sin.
Seventh Circle (Violence) - Bane & Victor Zsasz.
Bane thrives in violence but possesses the mental capabilities to know exactly how to wield that violence to create the most devastation and pain to those he deems worthy of it. Zsasz is driven by his needs as a serial killer and he brings nothing to the world which houses him but pain and death.
Eighth Circle (Fraud) - Hugo Strange & Hush.
Hugo Strange is a fraud because he presents himself as a man with good intentions, one who wants to 'help' people but he is only interested in his own selfish gains. Hush is a more straight forward fraud because he claims the identity of another as his own with ill-intent and seeks to destroy it's original owner.
Ninth Circle (Treachery) - Two Face & Joker.
Harvey goes in treachery because his fate was to betray everything which he stood for as a man and as DA of Gotham and a betrayal of that magnitude cannot go unpunished. Joker, in a similar vein, is a traitor of all the good values of men and delights in making choices which cause the most suffering for the widest volume of people.
I got a haircut!!!
mary h.how many bsd novels are there i thought it was just the agency aku one and the dazai one but theres more apparently?? how many different bsd spin offs are there i am so confused
OHHHH BOYS. BESTIE YOU ARE NOT READY. THERE ARE SO MANY. and i know this because i own every single novel that has an english release (i'm linking all the ones that do):
Osamu Dazai's Entrance Exam - this is the one with the Azure Messenger, infamously adapted into the present day in the middle of season 1 when it's actually set 2 years in the past as Dazai's entrance exam into the ADA.
The Untold Origins of the Detective Agency - what the title says, currently being adapted in the beginning of season 4. The novel also includes a short story set the day before Atsushi's entrance exam about the ADA planning what his exam should be.
Osamu Dazai and the Dark Era - this is one of the Dazai ones, about his time in the mafia with Ango and Oda, adapted in the beginning of season 2.
Dazai, Chuuya, Age Fifteen - another Dazai one, the one (poorly) adapted at the beginning of season 3, about how Chuuya joined the mafia. Has a currently ongoing manga adaptation.
Storm Bringer - sequel to Fifteen, longest of all the novels by far, set when Dazai and Chuuya are 16 and we find out more about Chuuya's origin story. And so much more, it really is a thicc novel.
55 Minutes - the second longest novel after Storm Bringer yet the least talked about (despite how much it elaborates on skill singularities and the nature of abilities). It's a self-contained story of the ADA going to solve a case on an artificial island off the coast of Yokohama, featuring two new ability users H. G. Wells and Jules Verne (hence a relatively sci-fi heavy novel and i wrote a 2k+ word essay analysing all the science behind it lmao)
Dead Apple - novelisation of the movie with some extra scenes and more elaboration on some details in the movie. Also has an ongoing manga adaptation with official english release.
BEAST - this is the Akutagawa in the ADA and Atsushi in the PM one, with a completed manga adaptation (also released in english) as well as a live-action movie that came out last year.
Gaiden (Another Story): Ayatsuji Yukito vs. Kyogoku Natsuhiko - the novel has no english release yet, but it's a spin-off about different ability users and i think Ango is the only recurring character from the main series there. There is an ongoing manga adaptation which does have an official english release.
The Day I Picked Up Dazai - i don't think this one is formally released yet as it was a bonus novel given out at the screening of the BEAST movie. It's divided into Side A and Side B and i haven't read this one yet but i believe it's about how Dazai and Oda first met, where each side follows the other's perspective. There's a completed fan-translation of both sides by @popopretty.
Kunikida and Katai's Magnificent Days - this is a really sweet short story about Kunikida and Katai's friendship and i have no idea where the official version is from but there is a fan-translation of it you can read here.
In addition to BEAST and Gaiden there is also Wan! which is the super cute casual chibi spin-off manga with no stakes and no angst and only vibes, it is still ongoing and has an official english release. Some of the chapters were adapted into the Wan! anime series with 12 episodes (they are shorter episodes of 10 min each) and it is literally free therapy and will give you a year's worth of serotonin!!
There is also the bsd anthology series, which are side stories written and illustrated by different mangakas, there is no official english release that i know of but you can find fan-translations of some of the side stories here and there online.
We also have bsd mayoi or Tales of the Lost, the mobile gacha game which also includes a high school AU storyline (bsd gakuen)!
Other than these, there are also several stage plays, although it's harder to find content on these in english since they are only performed in Japan.
Bsd fans are truly the most well-fed fans of all time sometimes i forget how much content we have and still we keep getting more, it's unreal
Hey Omni! I was wondering what the Torettos crew reactions would be with working with Owen. How do you think they would feel about the scars they gave him? Do you think they would feel bad?
Oooo! I'm loving all the Owen love recently!
As for your question, the crew has a lot of mixed feelings when it comes to Owen
Letty
When she looks at Owen and sees his scares, she feels a crushing guilt. She wishes her friend hadn't been put through that much pain and grief
But she also knows that it isn't her fault
Owen chose his actions and those were the consequences of said actions. It was an accident, one that nobody saw coming, but it had been a risk that came with the life he lived
Letty keeps that guilt and sense of failure with her when she's his scars, but each time she hears his laughter and is wrapped in his arms, she knows he's alright. He's alive and back in her life, and that's more important than any scar
Dom
He has similar feelings as Letty. He feels a twisting feeling in his gut when he sees those scars on Owen's face, but it's not quite guilt
Regret, maybe. But Dom wouldn't have changed every action he took that faithful night
Owen had terrorized him and his family, even kidnapping his sister. He didn't have much remorse for Owen when it came to fighting him at that time
But Dom does have to wonder if he could have saved Owen
Could he have grabbed him in time? Could he have knocked Owen out and dragged him out of the plane and to safety? Could they have recruited Owen and have him join the crew, and then convince his siblings later on?
There's a lot of 'what ifs' that Dom could swell on, but chooses not to. That's in the past, and while he wishes that Owen and his family hadn't gone through that pain, he's not going to fret over it
Owen is on their side now, almost like a brother to Dom, and from now on, Dom's going to do all he could for him
Roman
He wasn't there when Owen fell and he didn't really think about it when he received the news of Owen being in the hospital
Owen had just been another evil villain in his eyes until he joined the crew
And once they got together, Roman feels extremely guilty
He wishes they hadn't fought Owen. He wishes Owen didn't bare the scars they gave him. He wishes Owen didn't have nightmares about dying in that coma
Instead of dwelling on it, Roman embraces it. He kisses Owen's scars whenever he can and tries to lift his spirits after those nightmares
Tej
He doesn't have many thoughts on the matter. Like Roman, he hadn't been there when Owen fell and he's best buddies with Owen
He feels bad when he hears about Owen struggling with the scars and aftermath of being in a coma, but he doesn't think about it as much as the others
Luke
While he didn't see Owen fall off the plane, he feels his heart break when he sees Owen struggling with the aftermaths
He doesn't like seeing his little brother hurting, but he also knows that Owen wouldn't have stopped. Owen would have kept going no matter what, short of being hurt that badly
Luke wishes, just like Letty, that they could have just locked Owen up and not seen him in a hospital bed and in a coma
~~~
I hope you enjoyed friend!
