This hurts more with grian saying "bigb treated me right" huhu
From Grian's Double Life pov, Scar's behavior in episode one feels like such a strong rejection I think.
(disclaimer that this is all speaking from grian's pov, not necessarily objective view on the situation.)
For starters we really do gloss over "Scar I think we're soulmates and you're too busy chasing fairies!" a lot. Grian very explicitly told Scar that he thinks they're soulmates (and in the same sentence is already expressing frustration with feeling like scar isn't paying attention or prioritizing grian's feelings like five minutes into them running into each other). Grian said it out loud. Scar heard him, which we know because Scar responded with "My real soulmate is flying away from me", which not only indicates Scar heard Grian, but also that he understood what Grian said on some level. And Scar walked away.
Grian has reason to feel rejected or devalued here. I mean, it seems like, from Grian's perspective, Scar thought whatever Grian was saying to him was so unimportant he instantly brushed Grian off and disregarded the conversation completely (despite grian being clearly distressed). Grian tried to express something extremely important, in a moment of obvious emotion, and he ended up feeling like Scar didn't care to listen, even when Grian said it plainly to Scar.
So then Scar and Grian go around the server, and Grian decides not to tell Scar yet (although to be fair grian already told him) and Scar..doesn't notice. They take damage multiple times while together but Scar never seems to notice when they do, or catch on to the fact that they're soulmates, even when practically everyone else they run into does in fact know, sometimes just from watching them take damage together. (oorp this was obviously for the bit, but from a character perspective i can't help but wonder if grian was 'testing' in a way, not trying to tell scar again because he's hoping scar will eventually care enough to notice himself)
And again, it's very easy for Grian to feel like Scar is rejecting or doesn't care about him. Grian feels like Scar isn't noticing him, like Scar doesn't even see him, because if Scar was paying attention, surely at some point he'd see something Grian sees as so obvious. I think this is an especially big blow to Grian specifically, because Grian often expresses love through fussing over people and making sure they're safe and healthy. So the fact that Scar apparently never once really looked at him specifically when either of them were in danger or taking damage was probably more hurtful for Grian than it would for many people.
Eventually Grian ends up going off on his own for a little bit, just to set up a little bit of a base and starting resources for them. Scar stops by, and Grian tries to tell him. "I have something to tell you!" Grian says. Scar waves him off and walks away. "I have something to tell you!" Grian calls again. Scar doesn't turn around.
Again, the running theme of Grian feeling like Scar isn't really noticing him. Another time where Grian tried to speak to Scar, to tell him they're soulmates no less, and Scar waves him off and walks away, like whatever Grian has to say isn't important, like it's something that can just be glossed over and disregarded.
And then Grian comes to Scar, marches over to Scar and his pandas, and tells Scar he has something important to tell him. Grian tells Scar to look at him, and drops dripstone on their heads. Scar isn't paying attention, laughing over the pandas. Grian presses- no, look, actually look this time!- and only after Grian demands Scar look at him can he drop another piece of dripstone on their heads and have Scar realize they're soulmates.
"Do we have to live together?" Scar asks almost immediately.
"It would be nice..."
Grian has to drag Scar to the base he's started.
And like. Obviously it isn't bad of Scar to not care about soulmates very much or to be distracted or unobservant. But all of this adds up to Grian, I think, feeling very deeply rejected, unheard, and devalued. Adds up to Grian getting this impression that Scar isn't interested in actively listening to him when he talks, or checking on him when they're in danger, or paying attention when something's important to Grian, or even just looking at him unless Grian begs him to. Which very naturally leads into Grian's arc of pulling back from Scar in following episodes.
Jimmy Solidarity will never stop amazing me.
He is an actual energy chameleon. I have never seen him not vibe with a group. He has such a unique dynamic with every single person he interacts with and it blows my socially inept mind.
Watching him play R.E.P.O. with Grian, Gem, Impulse, Scar, and Skizz is such a fun contrast to watching him play R.E.P.O. with Pearl, Karn, False, and Ren. He's so chaotic with GIGGS and so chill with Pearl's lobby.
I love every single interaction he has with Scar. They are such dorks.
I miss his Plate Up streams with Skizz and Tango so much they have such an insane dynamic.
Genuinely, one of my favorite things about MCC is just watching Jimmy be paired with new people and adapt.
Man lives on an ever changing scale from annoying gremlin to patient teacher and I am so freaking here for it.
Canon event cuz I said so
"I get lesbians!!" I, Tommyinnit, say into the mic.
The crowd boos. I begin to walk offstage in shame. Then, a German voice speaks up.
"No, he's right," the voice says. I look for the owner of the voice.

Silly imp man
First time actually drawing art for most of them (main grian watcher lmao) so let's see how this goes
A lot of people hc that the redstoners eat redstone like goofy lil guys
I like to think that because Mumbo, Tango or doc ect. Have eaten so much redstone that it lingers in their systems and they emit a low redstone frequency like a 2-5. This was discovered when mumbo leaned against some tnt and it lit, fortunately he has changed all his tnt to respond to the highest output of redstone. Tango stepef on a line of redstone with his bare feet and triggered a machine to start too early.
Not only that, but their fingertips are also stained red and random strangers, sometimes, think they murdered someone.
Eating redstone I would imagine tastes like a button battery but with a sweet raspberry copper after-taste. Which is why it's so often than not what mumbo or doc may eat redstone when they haven't had any actual food in awhile.
Doc also found out the hard way that you should not snort it, he never goes into detail about it, but apparently, it's like a nightmare in a red tinted filter. Tango ended up snorting it a week after finding this out and further reinforced doc's point.
Xisuma is obviously concerned about the redstone hermits, considering how much they know about the effects of redstone. He's also concerned at how many of them know what button batteries taste like.
.
The reason spawn is now 30 million blocks away is because Grian was testing the watcher powers and messed up and didn’t want to admit that so he said it’s for the bit.
He was casually talking to Pearl about Evo one day (as one does) and found out the other watchers moved the spawn there and he was like oh I wonder if I can do that and accidentally moved it 100,000 times farther than he was trying to (he was trying to move it to in front of the permit office) and now no one can figure out how to move it back.
They got the recap team to try and move it back (they are watchers with more training than Grian they should’ve been able to fix it) but it didn’t work and Xisuma looked through the code nonstop for like a week with no results.
So spawn is going to stay there until Grian figures out how to reverse it but unfortunately he only works 24 hours a day 7 days a month

Honestly fascinating how much The Lifers dehumanize themselves.
They so often see themselves as monsters, curses, weapons, rabid animals, assets, currency, anything but people.
Lives are currency, bodies are only as important as they are useful, every word they speak, every breath they breathe, they think of themselves in bargaining power and viability and use.
They cut off parts of themselves, it's okay, it won't be permanent. They push down their feelings and desires, because honoring them won't get you anywhere. They die. They wake up again.
Something puppets them, strings that can't be cut. There is no agency in this place, they are always on stage.
Something opens its mouth to devour them. They are livestock off to slaughter, their very emotions cuts of meat.
Something won't let them leave, traps them behind invisible glass. Bug taxidermy, butterfly wings pinned to a wall.
There's something inherently dehumanizing in the mere concept of the games. There is no end, there is no way out, there is no choice. You will kill, and you will bleed, and you will die, and They will feast on your performance, and you will wake up to kill again.
How can you keep seeing yourself fully as a person through that? How can you not start to look in the mirror and see a sharpened blade made for killing, or a puppet dancing on stage, or butterfly wings pinned to the wall, or livestock to slaughter?
This world is one that poisons the mind, destroys the body, and steals the soul.
As you have all been waiting for, today (as of this post), is the 30th of april! We have our application round open from now until the 20th of May, so make sure you apply before then! We wish you all the best luck on your applications!
We are delighted to present to you:
The background and UI artist application form:
(More info about the role of Background Artists is here, and info about the role of UI Artists is here)
The Writer application form:
(more information about the Writer role is here)
How many applicants will you be taking?
Background artist - 6-8, but flexible in that it depends on how many applications we have.
Script writers - 6-8, also flexible like background artists.
UI artists - 1-2.
Will there also be applications for character artists/programmers/voice actors/item-prop artist?
Nope!
Character artists - As of now, we have character artists for each of the Lifers. However, if one of the artists drops out, we will most likely re-open a smaller application for them. But it seems unlikely.
Programmers - We already have programming covered at this point in the project.
Voice actors - We will also not be taking any Voice Actors, as that would be way too much trouble for multiple reasons.
Item/prop artists - We are still early in development, and so we are not exactly sure what objects/items we would include. While the answer to needing item artists is most definitely a rotund yes, it might be a little while before opening applications for them, so, you might want to stick around for when that time comes.
What is required in the Background Artist portfolio?
We require 3-5 pieces of art, but are pretty flexible if you have more you think we need to see. The pieces themselves preferably contain works that show your skills in composition, detail, and colour. Not all of the pieces need to be backgrounds, some may be character art or something else, but they still all need to show your skill to the best of your ability. You also do not only have to have mcyt art in your portfolio.
What needs to be in the writer’s portfolio?
For Writers, while we do need to see a few of your pieces as well as a link to your ao3, we mostly need your willingness to collaborate with other Writers! What we will be looking for in your works isn’t skill in prose, but characterisation and dialogue. Maybe a tiny bit of scene handling.
Can we have examples of the style UI is going to be in, and what we need for the portfolio?
You can see examples of the pixel art style here.
We'd like to see UI artists are capable of doing pixel art, knowing the principles, and having a good grasp on the style (aka: keeping shapes readable and knowing how to shade). When submitting examples, we'd like to see pieces you are proud of and you believe capture your pixel expertise best, whether they be full illustrations or smaller sprites, anything goes! Also be sure to include pixel animation examples!
You also do NOT need coding experience, you will not be doing that side of UI.
If you have any queries in the application process that we have not already answered send us an ask! There are more already answered questions that you can check under #projectlumenasks !
I really like your art :D And I happened to see your Yhs Grian as Haruhi from Ouran High School post, I love it. I was inspired to write it. Hope you have a brilliant day! :D
Aww thanks! You too^^
Scott's view of love is so often "I will give you everything I have and you will give me whatever you feel like in return"
He doesn't make demands of his allies. Sure, he'll speak up if he wants something, or if he doesn't like something they do, but nine times out of ten when there's a disagreement, Scott will concede to them. He usually won't push for anything they aren't very willing to give.
On the other hand, Scott has very few boundaries for what he's willing to do. Scott will follow faithfully into a war he never wanted, will hand out his time and resources without needing to be asked, will bring his allies blade to his heart and tell them it's okay to do what they will, honestly, they don't even need to ask to take his life, he'll quietly accept an approaching betrayal, won't yell or fight or get out of the way, because the line between what he freely gives and what other people take gets thinner every day.
And it makes me insane. The way Scott sees himself, often, as an asset, thinks in terms of his resources and bargaining power. How he outlines every part of himself with ink, writing out how much they're worth, how much they'd sell for, how far they'd get his team before it's more economical to just kill him.
Love is so entangled with usefulness and consumption to Scott. Love is when he gives everything he has, every part of himself, and they, in return, give him..whatever they feel like, really, and he'll make do.
Thinking about Grian and how despite the fact that he’s always in an alliance, he inevitably ends up alone.
Always, when he dies he’s alone. From winning 3rd life to dying alone in that tunnel during DL and being the final Bad Boy (singular) in limited life. Grian is destined to end up alone.
And then, you think about him in Secret Life, and how yes he died alone but he died knowing that his teammates would be proud of him.
He knows that when Etho and Cleo find out how he died, all his work to weaken what was probably the strongest team, they’ll mourn but they’ll be proud of him.
Grian hasn’t had people be proud of him like that before.
There’s just something about the way session 7 ended. Everyone was focused on two of the survivors. The Zombie and the Stars. Everyone forgot about the Sun. No-one noticed the little platform on the sky, having mysteriously been changed.
Except someone did. The Glare. He saw the platform, how it had been changed, realised that the remaining survivor would be up there. However he did nothing with this information, why?
Simple, he wanted to apologise in a way. Apologise for forgetting about him, apologise for getting turned into one of the army. That’s why he let the Sun slip through the cracks, why he let the Zombie and the Sun hide in the base, even protecting them against the hoard.
The Zombie, the Stars and the Sun all survived. To the detriment for the rest of the server. They all failed, because of one man’s loyalty. The Harbinger had been upset for sure, but really what could she do?
The session was over. Sure she could wait for her revenge till the next week, but that’s too long. The Glare had ruined it for everyone else. She had been willing to kill the Stars for the task, why hadn’t he?
The Glare is a loyal man. He would never betray those he called allies unless they did so first. And neither did. The Zombie and the Sun stood by his side until his unfortunate demise to someone who in a past life had been his son.
The Zombie went out the same way, in a hole with that same son. But what about the Sun? He died fighting. Sure his curse had activated, both the Glare and the Zombie dying before him, but he knew that they would be proud. Knew that the first people who had seen his loyalty since the sand had been washed out of his wings, would be proud of him.
Proud of him for staying by their side till the end. Proud for fighting a 3v1 so the Zombie would have some chance of escape. Prions of him for taking a total of 91 hearts from the most stacked team before he died.
Because in the end their only players. Players in this unforgiving game. Cleo, Etho, and Grian were all just victims of these games, coming together to give eachother some form of comfort.
I found it and I am bringing it here
going from watching the life series from joel's perspective to grian's is actually such whiplash.
joel's videos are a comedy or, at the very most, a tragic comedy. his traps all suck, he's already on red, he's so in love with his wife and is in a homoerotic relationship with his teammates. he jumps three blocks to injure himself because it'll hurt grian too and he's just that petty. he shoehorns in bucket clutches and speed bridging any second he gets. his pvp skills are unmatched but every conversation he holds has a 70% chance of being the awkwardest thing you've heard all day.
and then you get to grian and it's a genuine tragedy where there is no escape from the narrative. grian is constantly counting his time, his hearts, his lives. he is maximizing every second he has, strategizing every little thing to try to win despite his first victory being so bitter. he has the highest kill count and everyone he swears to protect dies. he is desperate to latch onto the next person so he is anything but alone but his status as game master isolates him from everybody anyway. it only gets worse as the seasons continue.

Based on Scarian Death Game AU by sadagios, where an anon left a rather interesting idea to Sada. Mal took great inspiration from anon and Sada’s ideas, and formed a storyline revolving around them. She shared them with Sada, and thus, a new au of the original au was formed. Scarian Dating Game AU was now up and running!
Strange things happen to Gria, a game dev for “Evolutionist’s Portal”, after he takes home a disc with a dating sim game on it. His obsession with a character from the popular game series “Hermitopia” finally catches up with him, but at what cost? Through glitches and crashes, mixed feelings and concerning behaviors, perhaps what would have once been a dream turns into a horrible nightmare. But where will the story take you? Only you can decide your ending.

Gria was in need of a couple of spare parts to fix one of the appliances at his apartment, and where better to go for absolutely random parts than Big Ron’s down the corner? While the store associate, Bee, who was most certainly a college student taking a summer job, searched in the back for a slightly more obscure piece, Gria takes the time to look around at all the items dotted about the store. He swears there’s always something different each time he pops in, and it’s always interesting to see.
Then he spots something that is definitely out of place. Not that it’s strange to see a loose disc here, but it’s not with the others, and is just barely poking out from between two books sitting on a shelf. He slides it out, with the intention of putting it back into the bin of loose discs. But the clearly handwritten words on it catch his eye, rather than it having a printed image with text. ‘Project: HotGuys Dating Simulator’. He looks it over, and you know, he’s kinda bored, so why not check it out? It probably won’t be any good, but it can be something to just pass the time.

I love this song (and musical) so much.
Here is a break down on No Longer You as Scar from secret life.
'I am the prophet with the answers you seek' Grian would be concerned 'the prophet', he's a watcher.
'Time, I've unlocked it' Limited life 'I see past and future running free' Can see the past life games and the future ones as their creator.
'There is a world where I help you get home, But that's not a world I know' Scar getting home from the end of Secret Life.
'What?' -Scar
'I see a song of past romance' Scarian in the desert/double life.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME
I often analyze the Life Series through a lens of personal agency because I think it's a broadly applicable theme and it's also a theme that matters to me personally, so it's always stuck with me, maybe more than a lot of the fandom, how little agency Grian had in Third Life.
Scar and Grian's deal was in of itself was wildly unhealthy for Grian, I think. Obviously Scar didn't go out of his way try to make things hard for Grian, in fact, a lot of the things Grian did for him because of their deal were things Grian decided himself were his responsibility. But unconditional servitude is a very limiting and possibly even dehumanizing thing to agree to, and it clearly got to Grian. He frequently spoke about being unhappy, about wanting to leave, about how much he hated having to do what Scar says. And while some of that was for show, I also think there was a lot of very real regret over being caged, over giving away so much personal agency in a moment of guilt and obligation.
The first real choice Grian made was to stay with Scar, despite whatever resentment he'd built earlier, despite how much part of him wanted to leave.
This was punished quickly when Scar betrayed him, and possibly in the worst way possible. He tossed out a piece of paper, said whoever catches it lives. Grian couldn't catch it before Bdubs did, Grian couldn't convince his one ally not to help stab him to death, Grian couldn't fight back when it was two against one. He was helpless, in many ways in that moment. Nothing he did meant anything, nothing he did could have stopped it, Grian's first act of personal agency after so long being caged was to choose to stay with Scar, and Scar stabbed him for it while Grian tried (and failed, because nothing he did would have stopped it) to convince him not to.
Scar tried to make up for it (well, depending on whether you view scar's "you may slay me" as genuine or strategy) in a way I think is pretty meaningful all things considered. Scar kneeled, and he gave Grian the power to do what he would, let Grian choose. Which is possibly the best thing Scar could have done, when I see Grian feeling robbed of personal agency as such a big Thing in his Third Life pov.
But it didn't matter in the end. The spectators wanted a fight, and for one reason or another, Grian felt bound to their wishes. Maybe he would have wanted to kill Scar, or maybe he would have wanted to go home together and keep living, or maybe he would have wanted a fight if he could have chosen it. But Grian couldn't, he didn't have a choice. Grian was forced to kill Scar, and then he threw himself off the cliff, because there was no other option, nothing else to do.
I just feel like Grian is robbed of agency at so many turns in Third Life in a way we don't think about all that much.

I didn't plan on drinking tonight but okay
as much as i love the angst of scar seeing/watching grian kill himself after 3rd life, scar didnt see grian kill himself and somehow thats worse.
