I like the idea of Reverse Falls! Billford. In my head, Stanford is the needy ex and Will is like “stop trying to serenade me at my window, I’m not going back to your tent.”
I need more needy ex reverse Ford content. I want him to be pathetic. Just like Bill is.
sth cute for me to try alight motion again yayay
I’d seen An Enchantment of Ravens held up as an alternative “fae book” to A Court of Th0rns and R0ses (AC0TAR) since before the book even came out, since there are several conspicuous parallels between them. However, I wasn’t expecting An Enchantment of Ravens (EoR) to read so much like an actual response to AC0TAR.
While I won’t presume to say that Margaret Rogerson wrote her book with AC0TAR in mind, it’s fun to talk about the parallels (or lack of parallels in some cases) anyway, because the difference between the books is a good way of explaining what I dislike about AC0TAR’s romance. It’s easier to explain why one thing in AC0TAR ticked me off when I can point to the way EoR did (or didn’t) do the thing differently and kept me on board with the romance.
some disclaimers:
the following “essay” is not complimentary to the book A Court of Th0rns and R0ses, so if you are a big fan of that book, just don’t read this! i promise you’re (probably) not missing anything you don’t already know
essay also includes spoilers for both books being compared: AC0TAR and An Enchantment of Ravens
the purpose of this essay is not to chronicle all the flaws of AC0TAR, because that would be an entirely different thing. the focus is on how the two books address romance between a fae character and a mortal character in contrasting ways and why i personally like EoR’s take so much better

Neuvillette: It is such a shame I can't go out much due to my duties.
Clorinde: You could always leave them to me. I'm not too busy now. Or you can ask Navia for help.
Neuvillette: No, that'd be too much. Forget I said anything, I just wanted to know how Furina's doing.
Clorinde: They're hosting a surfing competition for the entire month at Romaritime Harbor's sea. Furina is vying for the annual championship and is stomping the competition as we speak.
Neuvillette: She picked up surfing? Why did no one tell me about this?
Clorinde: ... You never asked until now.
We know that nobility during the Regency and Victorian era often did charity, such as providing food and clothes for the poor, and generally as an act of benevolence and their "noble duty". We know that this is a thing in the Eorka Empire with Winter. Thus, the illustrious and noble Eckhart family must also do such things from time to time, right?
Originally, they don't bring Penelope because of her horrid personality, thinking that she'd throw a tantrum. However, on one occasion, they begrudgingly bring her. Turns out, she is a great help.
The street children are wary of nobility and for good reason. They've developed a system of code words and hand signals that every child on the streets is intimately familiar with. Only those from the lowest of the commoners have knowledge of them; not even Winter, a noble known for his genteel kindness towards the ill-fated, knows.
In the past when the Eckhart men walk the streets and provide food, not many come, with a handful of the braver and older ones stealing closer. However, with Penelope, things are a lot different. She twists her fingers in a set of gestures, which to them, looks like it's from nerves. However, she's signing something different entirely.
"Safe, Helpful. Green."
"Taken in."
At the same time, she whistles a short tune, which all street children pass on to each other. A series of childish voices whistle back, completing the melody.
Before any of the Eckharts can ask what she's doing, children start flooding out of the dilapidated houses, from alleyways, from broken-down gardens.
Their hunger-starved faces and fearful caution make the Eckhart brothers realize "oh, this was Penelope's reality before she came to the duchy." However, none of the children go near the men, opting to huddle around Penelope, hands clutching at her skirts. They look at her with hope. One of the children taps a short code on Penelope's wrist.
"Safe for you?"
And though she hesitates, she knows that the children of the street will recognize the body language and the attitudes of the Eckharts towards her. So she signs, "Green for you. Yellow for me. Shopped. Replacement child."
Several tiny faces turn dark with bitter anger.
Idk if I can properly put into words why I love cocoapowder so much but I’ll try
It’s really all about Chara’s arc in Undertale Red & Yellow and how by being forced to walk around and interact with Frisk and Clover, they slowly develop a friendship with the two by simply just talking and being themself
Chara did not have a very high opinion of themself, and Chara also isn’t really a fan of stopping to smell the roses. They get upset if Frisk walks off the normal path, and they bring themself down whenever they have the chance to. They feel guilty about what they did to Asriel, and completely unempathetic in the geno run
After failing to free monster kind, Chara is submissive to the whims of Frisk’s decisions and simply just encourages progression no matter the route being taken, because they don’t believe they have the right to agency anymore (until the end of the geno run)
And then you add Clover to the mix. Clover who’s experienced a lot of hurt in their past and chooses to spread love and kindness and affection instead. Clover’s sense of justice comes from meeting aggression with friendship and trying to turn people around to reveal the best sides of themselves. Clover does this with Chara, and they don’t initially get along very well. They’re stuck with each other, however, and they bond a little over having shared experiences in the Underground and comparing them to Frisk’s journey
It’s through the True Pacifist route that Chara realizes something: Clover is better than them. They both sacrificed their souls to free all monsters, but one of them actually proved “useful.” Clover believes in a righteous sense of justice that insists on redemption rather than karma, and Clover is willing to give Frisk another chance even after multiple geno runs. Clover also isn’t afraid to snap back against a bad decision, which is why they stop you at the end of every geno
Clover is insufferably different from Chara, and yet over the course of Frisk’s journey they become friends. Not only that, but Clover feels free to openly flirt with Chara and they don’t bat an eye
And Chara starts to believe it when Clover says they deserve to love themself, and that they deserve to forgive themself, and that no matter what mistakes they’ve made in the past, they’re a good person
I have no doubt in my mind that at the end of the True Pacifist route, Clover wishes Chara could come back too, because they definitely believe Chara deserves to live. It’s so interesting to place Clover and Asriel across from each other at the flower bed. They both knew Chara, one in life and one in death, and yet they both knew two different Charas
Asriel talks about how Chara wasn’t the best person and that he idolized them growing up, but he outright expresses that Chara was a bad friend and that Frisk is their perfect counterpart. Clover refutes this and says that Chara is good, and has always had good intentions. Clover never idolized Chara but saw them for who they were, flaws and all, and admired them anyway
Chara and Clover have deep conversations that Chara never could have with Asriel, because Asriel was just a silly kid who didn’t understand the gravity of their plan. Chara hates themself for that plan, because they realized they shouldn’t have put that burden on a child. What Chara doesn’t realize is they were a child too, one with a foolish dream of saving the world through a noble and just sacrifice
And they see Clover, who did the same thing. A child who sacrificed their existence for a greater cause. Clover didn’t deserve that. But Chara respects their decision. Chara is happy when they come back at the end, and their smile speaks volumes
There’s this deeper connection between Chara and Clover that just makes them perfect for each other. Their opposites-attract dynamic met with their shared experiences, admiration for each other, and witty banter they share throughout. I love Cocoapowder 💕
¯\_(๑•́ω•̀)_/¯ my HC for their human disguises huehue
When Leo and Usagi start dating
Raph:
Is suspicious of Usagi bc how many Yōkai have they met that HAVEN’T at some point attacked Leo?
Will stare down Usagi whenever Leo leaves the room (Usagi, the poor boy, doesn’t realize what’s happening and just smiles at Raph like :D)
Gave Usagi THE TALK. (If you even think about doing anything to hurt Leo I will personally END YOU.)
Gives Leo a talk. (If that guy does anything to you I’m gonna hurt him.)
Warms up to Usagi after a while.
Usagi nicks his hand on something and Raph helps Usagi put a bandaid on it.
Usagi is now brother number five.
Donnie:
Worried at first but gets used to the idea of Leo dating pretty quickly.
Does not interact with the rabbit man.
Overprotective of Leo but more subtly than Raph.
Definitely has plans if Usagi does anything to make Leo upset. ( >:3 )
Tells Usagi he could do better than Leo(as a joke ofc)
Kinda protective of Leo but not as much as Raph, he’s worried that if it doesn’t work out Leo will be sad
Usagi goes into Donnie’s lab looking for Leo and asks what Donnie’s working on, Donnie launches into a monologue, and Usagi sits there. Listening eagerly. Asking good questions.
Donnie loves Usagi now. They often talk about Donnie’s latest projects.
Donnie encourages Leo to “keep him” on a regular basis.
Mikey:
Heard about Usagi the first time and lit up.
“Is he cute? Do you really like him? Is he coming over?”
Welcomes Usagi into the lair immediately.
Often invites Usagi over for dinner.
Makes Usagi breakfast when he stays the night.
Goes to Run Of The Mill to see Usagi at work/bring him lunch.
Gives Usagi advice on how to woo Leo even more.
Convinces Raph that Usagi is nice and he wouldn’t hurt Leo if his life depended on it.
April:
“Lmao I knew you were a furry”
Pretty chill. Doesn’t hate Usagi but doesn’t absolutely love him.
will help with anything if she’s asked to.
encourages Leo to go for it when he’s nervous.
imagine having a cheerleader that just sat on her phone and occasionally went “woo go team you got this”
Splinter:
“YOU HAVE A WHAT?!”
”I am calm now, my son. Just make sure he is not a spider.” (Cue Leo texting Usagi at 3am like “Arw you a spidwr????”)
His son is so grown up.
His boyfriend is so nice.
”I want grandchildren.”
Draxum!
“Aren’t you a little young to be dating?”
Doesnt like the idea of one of his kids the turtles dating.
Definitely intimidates Usagi
The betrayal when Raph starts liking Usagi
Helps Donnie with his plan to get revenge on Usagi if Usagi hurts Leo.
Only starts trusting Usagi after Mikey tells him that Usagi is nice.
just so y’all know, I do read the tags and change things I feel that are better than what I initially put. Your input makes me happy!
Okay Undertale community:
Since Undertale Yellow, I have been thinking.
UTY placed itself so firmly in the timeline, with so much to say, so much added to the worldbuilding (in a good way), so many wonderful characters, new locations, ect. that I believe we can make a prequel for each of the SOULs.
The hardest to do will probably be Integrity since their story intertwines so well with Clover's, and we hear about their actions at least twice if not more.
The only thing we gotta be aware of is that Flowey absolutely wouldn't exist before this point. He wouldn't have seen any other humans fall down, since Flowey is a more recent experiment. The Amalgamates, too, are relatively new in the Underground's history. So they might not exist.
If we were to create a prequel for Integrity, it should do something similar to UTY and create new characters, new locations, visit the old locations sparingly, and of course, end somewhere before New Home, since each soul made it a bit further and further than the last one.
The difficulty comes, again, with the fact that we know Integrity killed at least one monster- a child, no less- so doing different routes may be a bit weird. But it shouldn't be too bad; only one route is canon, right?
Maybe.
I'd like to propose a question that I don't have an answer to: Who had the ability to save/load/reset before Flowey did? He was the most determined being in the Underground, so it makes sense he got it, and then it was passed on to Frisk when they showed up, but what about before that? Imagine going up against a monster who isn't as determined as Flowey, but comes close.
The question then remains why that monster didn't stop Integrity from killing. Did that monster know they held that power at all?
I'm not here to propose ideas- that's for the fan game creators to handle. But I am absolutely LIVING for the idea that we could LITERALLY build our own canon.
Imagine a fan game for each of the souls, going in reverse order. We start with Yellow (Clover), then go to Integrity, so on and so forth until we get to Patience. Hell, we might even be able to do a Chara's Origins game after that!
If I knew how to program games, you KNOW I'd be jumping at the chance to do something like this. Since I can't, I'll just cheer y'all on from the sidelines should anyone decide to do this.
I might make an askblog or fan comic based on this, idk. Could be fun fgsdh
