Study Mode Activated. I Have A 3-5 Page Paper To Write For My Forensic Science Class. I Feel Less Stressed

Study mode activated. I have a 3-5 page paper to write for my forensic science class. I feel less stressed about this one than I did about last week’s. I’m also really proud of the gun I drew, especially since I’m nowhere near being an artist. Yay forensic science class!

My study buddy is here keeping me company. I’m on my second page and have taken my second Ritalin of the day to focus. I may drink more coffee later on to help focus my brain when the Ritalin wears off. ADHD is so much fun…

Scientists finally know why people get more colds and flu in winter | CNN
CNN
A new scientific finding has uncovered why we get more viral colds, flu and Covid in winter and during cold snaps.

The sardonic, reductionist headline here could be "Scientists finally figured out why you get more colds in winter: bEcAuSe iT's CoLd!"—but the actual science involved here is both interesting, and potentially very relevant to everyday life and especially the immunocompromised:

It turns out the cold air itself damages the immune response occurring in the nose. [...] In fact, reducing the temperature inside the nose by as little as 9 degrees Fahrenheit (5 degrees Celsius) kills nearly 50% of the billions of virus and bacteria-fighting cells in the nostrils, according to the study published Tuesday in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. “Cold air is associated with increased viral infection because you’ve essentially lost half of your immunity just by that small drop in temperature,” said rhinologist Dr. Benjamin Bleier, director of otolaryngology at Massachusetts Eye and Ear and an associate professor at Harvard Medical School in Boston.

Want to avoid catching or spreading respiratory viruses like CoVid-19, RSV, influenza, or a common cold? Mask up, please, but also bundle up! Wrap up in a scarf, wear a balaclava, and just generally keep your face warm. There's no single magic solution, but that's not a reason to do nothing. Rather, it's a reason to take several simple precautions that help avoid the spread of disease and protect those around you. (I can't tell you how much "this isn't 100% effective so I shouldn't do it at all" frustrates me.)

Oh, and #knitblr? This is your time to shine.

Black cats are lucky. (via leahweissmuller)

If being too giving is wrong, I don’t want to be right. I currently don’t have enough money to give to all the causes I care about. Included in my “When we have more money” list is so many causes and people I want to help. It’s also why I want to help people in my future work. I’m a helper because someone has to be. My mom taught me that the meaning to life was to love, and that includes those less fortunate.

one thing I've noticed with being autistic is my innate sense of justice

people tend to be so passive to awful injustices and say "well it is what it is"

but I can never see it that way

how can people be so dismissive of other human beings and their lives? how can we reach equality when every person has such a selfish point of view?

it's really horrifying, and yet we're considered the ones with no empathy

We’re still in the waiting room. It’s insanely busy. And the tremors are getting worse. Yay for cold and flu season…

Wife and I are at the ER. She’s been having what her neurologist (our neurologist? We see the same guy) think are seizures. She’s been having small tremors off and on since February. We think it was caused by Paxil, which she rapid detoxed from under medical care a few months ago.

Today the whole body tremors/shaking are constant. With all her medical issues, I try to stay positive and strong. We do it for each other.

Hubby is at home getting cleaning done for the plumbing. It’s just another day in our life. It’s weird.

TW: domestic violence, sexual assault

Today’s material that I’m studying is incredibly challenging and triggering for me. I’m a survivor of domestic violence and sexual assault. It’s been long enough that I don’t think about it every day, but studying about violence and gender this week is tough.

I’ll be glad when it’s next week.

Being overstimulated is so weird with both ADHD and Autism.

Do even the slightest sounds make me wanna scream and cry? Yes.

Does listening to some intense dubstep on max volume in my earbuds immediately ground me and help? Also yes.
