A Lesson In Cleansing

a lesson in cleansing

this is personally the way i cleanse my house. it’s different for every practicioner, but you need to do it.

how i cleanse:

i love incense. the different smells and the pretty smoke patterns really do it for me. there’s also the added benefit of not culturally appropriating by using white sage.***

i light an incense stick and walk around my space with it, taking deep breaths and imagining all the negative energy in the room leaving the areas i’m holding the stick in. i then let it burn until it’s completely out.

after that, i line my windows and doorways with black salt. if you’re interested in learning how to make this, please let me know.

after that, i put up my protective sigils on my windows, doors, and mirrors (simply to lock the mirrors). if you want to learn how to make a sigil, don’t hesitate to ask!

cleansing physically can help you with your spiritual cleanse as well. clean your room/house/whatever, straighten up your altar, go ham with some pine sol.

i like to do a face mask after my monthly deep-clean of my space.

when i cleanse:

i re-ward/deep cleanse my room once a month, but i actually cleanse with incense every time i go to cast a spell. before i cast my circle or even before i get my materials out, i have my incense burning. the amount of times i cast a spell varies from week to week, but it’s always more than once a week. i highly highly highly suggest cleansing every time you go to cast a spell.

i am not the end-all-be-all of witchcraft. you don’t have to cleanse as often as i do, but you at least need to do something. remember, your craft is personal to you, you can only learn from the experiences of older witches and choose whether or not to take our advice. happy crafting!

***if you are not native american and using white sage, please stop. native peoples are running out of sage and need it for their practice. it’s sacred to them.

Hi my dearest Diana! I'm so amazed at how you read a card differently each time! With other readers it's like every card just has one or two keywords but you have a very rich knowledge. I know time and natural talent play in it but any tips for an intermediate reader like me?

The Source and the Queen of Heaven

The supreme deity has always existed, long before anything else came into being. They are called the Source, who began as a formless consciousness of radiant light and consisted of both masculine and feminine energy. The Source is not Jehovah, for they are just and truly benevolent, unlike the tyrant war-god. The Source holds within themself infinite love, power, and wisdom; always using these in order to rule over all creation in the most balanced way. When the Source had decided to begin creation, they took their feminine energy and transformed it into a second version of themselves called the Queen of Heaven. While they are both One deity in essence, the supreme goddess is independent from the supreme god and do not act exactly the same. Despite this, they share consciousnesses and so are aware of each other’s perspectives at the same time as their own; which means that they have dual consciousness.

The Mother and Father are usually formless, but may rarely choose to manifest as extremely tall golden humanoids of light and with a gemstone on their chests. Despite this, one must never associate them or portray them in altars as humanoid, as this is limiting of who they are and is seen as disrespectful. With the eventual creation of humans and other races, the Source and Queen of Heaven came to be known by several different names. The Source has been called names such as Brahman (Hindu), Atum (Egyptian), and Olodumare (Yoruba); the Queen of Heaven has been known as Adi Parashakti, Sophia, and Mary. They are in no way associated with the Abrahamic religions since these were perpetuated by the false god, Jehovah, who was greedy and sought to overshadow every other deity. Not only this, but the supreme Mother and Father are strongly against the majority of teachings in these religions and view them as manipulative and unhealthy. Not only this, but they would never command the genocides of millions of people just to expand religions; the Abrahamic religions however were built upon the bones and dismantled temples of the polytheists.

The Process of Creation: In order to create, the Queen of Heaven became the consort of the Source and together, created the Gods of Gods within the Void. Among these immensely powerful deities are Ptah (the Architect), Nemesis (retribution), Ouranus (heavens/daylight), and Erebus (darkness). The Architect, Ptah, then assisted in creating the greater gods, who work under the Gods of Gods and assist in many things for creation. The greater gods include deities such as the Outer Gods, Nyx (night), Hypnos (dreams and sleep), Fortuna (providence), and the Aeonic deities. The Aeons are the deities who create the physical and metaphysical Universes; their kind consists of the Ogdoad (mentioned in Egyptian texts), as well as Amun and Jehovah. The greater deities are incredibly powerful, but not nearly as much as the Gods of Gods, whose powers are almost infinite. Additionally, the higher in the hierarchy of divinity a god is, the far more complex and incomprehensible they become.

The Source and Queen of Heaven then assist in creating Universes alongside Ptah and the Aeons. When a Universe is formed, it is like a radiant sphere (hence them being called “golden eggs” or “cosmic eggs”). Once completed by having laws placed within them by Ptah and all other necessary components, the cosmic egg bursts open, allowing the Universe to unfold. For our Universe, this sudden blast of creation created our cosmos and the first Universal deity- Phanes (Lucifer), who brought light. The other deity who was born from this explosion was Eros, but he had a different destiny and so came into being within the Void instead of the Universe. It was only many eternities later that Eros created a smaller and less-powerful copy of himself to be born to Aphrodite so he could interact within the Universe as well.

Another deity who came from this explosion shortly afterwards was Philotes, the daughter of Nyx (night) and Ouranus (the heavens/daylight). The goddess Philotes is the one who brought unity into the Universe and is the very force of the element of gravity which holds everything together (from the celestial bodies to the particles of matter). She is also the force which helps bring people into harmony and experience love of all kinds. Eris (her half-sister) was born as her opposite in order to keep balance within the Universe; she targets unity in order to bring about chaos, strife, and separation. While the Source/Queen of Heaven embody pure Love, they allow painful things to occur since they say that evolution cannot exist within perfection; we need obstacles to overcome in order to develop as beings and grow wise. Thus, the Universe acts as a place of learning through adversity.

If you don’t mind sharing how do you do your readings ?

What a Tarot Reading with Me Looks Like

BEFOREHAND

Days before you visit, I will ask you to think of three questions on different aspects of your life. I will tell you that if you wish, for the first, I can simply give you an overview of your past, present and future.

THE ENVIRONMENT

Upon entering my sacred space, you will find that the lighting is warm and dim. You will hear quiet music around you to calm your mind. You will feel cool air that is refreshing to inhale. And the smell will be sweet. Like flowers in the air.

THE OFFERING

I will ask you to sit in front of me. Instead of tarot cards, you will see three wooden bowls on the round table between us.

The first contains dark chocolates. We will each have one. You, as an offering to your higher self, asking its permission to be deciphered. Me, as an offering to the old gods, who will use my voice to speak with.

The second bowl will have hot towels, one for each of us, to cleanse away any lingering negative energies. So that when we both touch the cards with our hands, tarot connects to our true energy.

The third bowl will have a different set of towels, simply for us to dry our hands with.

I will set them all aside, place a velvet cloth on the table, and a tarot deck in my hands.

THE INVOCATION

Together, we will take four deep breaths. You, as you focus on your question. Me, as I calm my body before the old gods take over.

I will ask you to state your query. Let us say it is about love.

You will see me shuffle the cards as I say, "I call upon the Moirai, Holders of Destiny. Clotho, the Spinner, I summon you. Lachesis, the Allotter, I invoke you. Atropos, the Inevitable, I invite you. Venus, Goddess of Love, Beauty and Harmony — everything we desire in life — I seek you."

I will relay your name and query to them. Let us say it is Jane. "I implore you to allow us a glimpse of Jane's destiny. She would like to know about love. Will she find it? When and with whom? What can she look forward to? Anything she should be wary of? We would be grateful for anything you will allow us to know."

So that the cards can touch the thread of your life, I will ask you to cut the deck in half, twice, and to break it in seven piles. I will put the deck back together and start laying out your cards in a Celtic Cross.

THE READING ITSELF

I will speak the position and name of each card as I lay it. After the spread is complete, you will hear me explain each of the thirteen.

The lights are dim for two reasons. Because the Fates live next to Hades and are not used to harsh lighting... and so that the light is focused only on me and your cards, when I show them to you one by one.

As I explain to you the symbols on each card, presenting them as evidence for every message, you will know that my words are not merely based on assumptions or taken from a scripted template. Because instead of hearing highfalutin words, you are seeing your very life... the people around you... your darkest fears... and your greatest hopes... painted on the cards right in front of your eyes.

I will speak your name repeatedly, helping you grasp that these hidden truths are being revealed to you directly.

After I have explained each card to you, I will close your reading by highlighting the advice, the warning, and above all, the prediction you received.

I will ask you if you have any clarifications. Instead of those, you will have exclamations. You will say something along the lines of, "I thought you would only say generic things. But instead you described my life in detail." You will start laughing or crying. Sometimes both. I will offer you a tissue box so your tears do not wet my cards.

We will move on to your next question, repeating a part of the invocation.

AFTERWARDS

You will ask me when you should come back. I will tell you that you probably should not. That sometimes, a person only needs to have one tarot reading in her life.

But in a few days, weeks or months, when my predictions have come true, you will come back anyway, asking more about your tomorrow and your yesterday.

We need an understanding of levels

Folks out there act like there isn’t any intermediate and advanced witchcraft content available to them. Even 20 years ago most of what is easily available now was not at your finger tips. Because of all this availability it seems like people don’t realize what is basic, intermediate or advanced. Spoilt with everything available, they wonder what advanced even is. Everything listed down here can be found online, in distance classes, and in books that are for sale at modest cost:

The basics are knowing the major neopagan holidays, how to cast a circle, cleanse, ground, shield and follow spell and ritual instructions for simple goals like attracting prosperity, inspiration and a little luck. Easy to follow and clear cut ethics. The instructions for learning visualization. You can start elsewhere than neopagan but there will be similar basic practices, and there are hundreds of books of the same basic content and lots of sites and blogs too.

Intermediate material is setting up a daily practice, getting good with a divination method, getting very familiar with herbal, tree, stone or animal lore, writing your own spells and rituals using correspondences and standard patterns, some study of myth and folklore. Thoughtful understanding of gray area ethics and honor. A lot of self exploration and strengthening. Instructions for out of body experience.

Advance material will be communicating with various spirits and/or deities. The specialization in the arts of a particular path or role like priesthood, tool making, bardic storytelling, writing your own grimoire or copying your tradition’s book of shadows. Initiation into that path and optionally coven practice. Confidence in astral travel. More specific and targeted spell craft and ritual based upon your compiled experiences and those shared with you by teachers and peers. Ecstatic practices during ritual and spell work. Deep self knowledge, facing difficult demons and shadows and acting in full accordance with your own ethical compass.

Post advanced: learning the specialities of more paths perhaps becoming a leader, teacher, warrior, writer, or mystic in your tradition. Learning more depth and self knowledge through teaching or leading or even through deeper life dedication. It is not every person who has gone through the levels duty to teach, it takes extra talents outside of the craft like writing ability, pedagogy, and even the luxury of time and space to provide for others.

It all comes down to your own personal level of dedication and amount effort you can or will put in how far you can go. And one can have a very meaningful and impactful practice at any level dependent only upon satisfying their own drive for self knowledge and wisdom and truth of the spirit world, deities and/or nature. Everyone’s advanced path will look different though intro paths can be fairly similar, they all are unique too.

Dearest Lady Diana, I noticed you always mention amulets and talismans together, when the less experienced writers here just use these two words interchangeably like synonyms. Can I please know the difference between the two? Thank you!

Amulets vs. Talismans

An amulet is a shield. A talisman is a sword.

The first will protect you from harm. The second will do that and more, such as send malice back to its source, or collect its energy to be harnessed later on in a curse. It can even heal invisible wounds.

Except when a talisman is labelled a protective talisman. In that case, it really is just a synonym for “amulet”.

But this is not to belittle amulets. A man who took a gunshot to the chest would tell you how his life was saved by a bulletproof vest. Same with an amulet. It can shield you from bullets, curses, diseases.

Amulets are also safer for beginners. Because while amulets are programmed to serve their purpose, talismans have a mind of their own. If they do not think the wearer worthy of their power, they could refuse to work, or they could wreak havoc altogether.

Here are some, if you think yourself ready to try them:

Amulet Against Human-Caused Harm

Amulet to Keep Children Safe

Talisman Against Curses

Talisman to Banish Fear and Negativity

They need awakening and care, if you wish them to do their share:

✨ a tarot spread i made for trying to see who’s reaching out to you ✨

image

1. card to represent entity

queen of cups - a beautiful, introspective woman sits on a throne at the edge of the sea. this entity is a women or has feminine energy, she is caring and compassionate. intuitive and creative, she goes with the flow. she might be an empath, a highly sensitive person, a healer, or psychic.

2. my relationship to them

the empress - a full figured woman, with a peaceful aura and peaceful energy. perhaps someone from my maternal line, with the previous card it seems to make sense that it is a female. a call to connect with feminine energy. she is also deeply connected to nature and perhaps is calling me to connect with nature and the female divine as well. with the pregnant belly showing, it really points to being a maternal ancestor.

3. why are they reaching out

the sun - her warmth and light shine down on me, she wants me to be happy and positive. she wants me to live life to the fullest that perhaps the people who came before me couldn’t have. she wants me to be open and confident, free and careless.

4. how they relate to my ancestors / are they an ancestor?

the hierophant - either they taught my ancestors about spirituality and tradition or they were an ancestor who taught others. they passed on knowledge, perhaps cultural traditions. with the previous cards, it would make sense for this person to be some kind of spiritual advisor or healer.

5. what can i do to hear them out?

page of wands - communicate via prayer or just talking, they want me to undertake a journey but for it to be creative, lively, and free. they want me to be full of energy and find my passion and go for it. perhaps a path similar to the one they took.

6. what can i do to honor them?

eight of pentacles - card of apprenticeship and mastery, whatever i’m currently practicing, keep doing what i’m doing because this is the right path. i’m currently in college studying art history, and trying to learn more and more about my own history. i must keep at this. they are encouraging me to do so. i will achieve success this way.

7. card to represent their origin

seven of wands - this is someone who was fiery at times and stood up for what they believed in. perhaps they were caught in the middle of a battle or constantly had people against them or critical of them. despite their sensitive nature, they defended themselves and protected what they cared about. if they were a teacher of some sort, then it would make sense for them to have a few who did not agree with them.

extra pulled cards: page of pentacles

oracle cards: warrior woman and answer the call

I'm interested in doing the celtic cross spread for personal weekly predictions but I'm struggling to think of how I should word my question when I'm shuffling my cards. Do you mind giving some guidance on that?

How to Correctly Phrase a Question for Tarot

Do not believe anyone who tells you that tarot is not good at answering yes or no questions. Just because they are doing it wrong does not mean you will be unable to do it right.

Because tarot can answer any question effortlessly. Yes or no… What… When… Where… Why… How… What if… Should I… Will it… How about… What do you think… If this… If that… The list is endless.

You only need to remember one thing.

Whatever your question is, no matter how simple or complex it is, make sure you state it very clearly — in your mind, with your words, or both.

When I do my weekly Celtic Cross, I ask, “What will happen to me this week, from today, Sunday, until Saturday?”

Had I neglected the words “to me,” tarot could show me an event that will happen somewhere in the world instead of in my own life. I could draw The Tower, and instead of it referring to something that will rock my world, it could manifest as an earthquake two regions away.

Had I neglected saying “from today,” tarot could count Monday as the beginning of the week, and my spread would miss a full day and overlap another day with next week’s reading.

Had I neglected mentioning “Sunday until Saturday,” tarot could take “this week” to mean five to six days — an approximation of a week, when what I wanted was a thorough prediction for the full 168 hours ahead.

Of the type of question and how best to word it, do not worry. For as long as you ask it clearly, tarot will answer sincerely.
