In my experience, both Asians and non Asians are pretty unaware of Asian American history. I was too up until college when I took it upon myself to learn as much as possible. I’m STILL learning. The thing is, our history is barely taught. You might hear about Chinese Exclusion or the internment of Japanese citizens, but that’s usually it. In order to combat racism, ignorance, and disrupt the model minority myth, we need to understand our history.

Oh no guys! I had a thought.
After Ellie returns from Santa Barbara, she and Dina try to heal and one night it leads to an argument.
Ellie yells at Dina "I can't! Everyone I have loved has died! Everyone except you and JJ. I can't lose you two. I'm toxic!"
The words hang in the air for one second and then another. And Ellie waits for Dina to tell her to get out. To leave Jackson.
And then Dina laughs, but its hallow and dark.
"You're not the only one El. My mother, Talia, Jesse, they're all dead. Everyone I've loved, who I've called family is dead accept for you and JJ. But you know the difference between us Ellie? I fought for my family. You ran from it Ellie, and now you have the chance to fight for us and you're trying to run."
Ellie doesn't realize she's crying until Dina is stepping forward and gently cupping her face.
"I can't make you fight for us Ellie, you have to make that decision. But I'm here, JJ is here, and we love you"
Ellie gets the help she needs and eventually she and Dina are able to work on and heal their relationship and they marry. Followed by all thw happy freckled fam moments.

“Fuck you my child is completely fine.”
Your child has full length and ongoing conversations with their-self pretending they’re talking to fictional characters and said characters are responding to them.
