i feel it is somewhat self explanatory but especially in a CNC scene, you need a safe word that is not a typical word you’d hear. but ALL irl scenes especially (and online!) should have a safe word set up. if you’re doing any form of breath play, gagging, anything where the mouth will be covered or talking not possible, a nonverbal cue should also be in place.

the way a lot of people do it:
