Everyone cares so much about abused kids until they grow up to be broken adults.

I’ve seen a lot of hubbub about age gap relationships recently and I wanted to give my two cents as someone who was in an online sexual “relationship” with someone in their twenties when I was thirteen and who is now in a completely healthy age gap relationship as an adult. In fact, the healthiest, happiest relationship I’ve ever been in. Please stop telling people in age gap relationships that they’re victims or perpetrators of abuse. I don’t speak for everyone, but I personally find it to be insulting and completely dismissive of my experience. If you see signs of grooming, absolutely step in and say something, but if your only reason to think there’s some sort of manipulation or abuse is an age difference, please leave us alone. We don’t want to hear you tell us we’re a victim and we certainly don’t want to hear you accuse the person we love most of abusing us when you know nothing about our relationship. Just leave us the fuck alone. Please.

Potentially unpopular opinion but I don’t think we should be combating people who say they’re pro-life for themselves but pro-choice for others. Like they’re on our side so there’s really no need to be argumentative about it. If labeling themselves that makes them feel more comfortable in their views, then just let them.

As much as we talk about mental health, I feel like we’re also perpetuating this culture of anti-forgiveness that is so against the idea that people can change, that it’s actually detrimental to mental health because the reality is, everybody makes mistakes, and a lot of people make big mistakes, but that doesn’t mean that they’re always bad people. I think we’re really damaging people’s mental health with this idea that people can’t reform. Just because you make a mistake, even if it’s a big one, does not mean that there’s anything inherently wrong with you and that you can’t do better, and we should stop perpetuating that idea. Anyway, that’s my two cents.

I got off my ADHD meds about eight months ago to help with my depression and the good news is that it has helped, but the bad news is that now I’m shitty at everything and stub my toe at least twice a day.

As someone who has taken college courses on colonialism, can I just say that the idea that colonized groups or groups that were forced into slavery lived in these perfect societies where no one was discriminated against and everyone was happy until the white man came is literally based on racism. Like, it’s LITERALLY the myth of the noble savage. It’s the same concept that led to things like the Disney version of Pocahontas and other offensive misrepresentations of Native Americans and Africans across popular culture. It’s an incredibly harmful stereotype. No race, ethnicity, or group of people was ever perfect. No one had the answers. No one had everything figured out. Colonialism was BAD, but it wasn’t bad because it ruined paradise. It was bad because it killed and hurt people, destroyed culture, and had harmful impacts for generations to come. So can we stop pushing racist stereotypes as some “woke” ideology, please? Thank you.

In the state of Tennessee, it is illegal for someone to change the gender marker on their identification papers, even after gender reassignment surgery. ID is supposed to identify someone. There is NO reason that a woman’s ID should identify her as male. Absolutely none. Please go sign this petition. It would mean the world to so many trans people living in Tennessee.

I don’t understand what the deal is with pro-lifers and heart beats. We’ve known for centuries that the heart has nothing to do with thought or emotion. “You can detect a heartbeat six weeks along!” Great. The fetus’s blood pumping machine is beginning to form. Who gives a shit?

As someone who does not watch supernatural, I am thoroughly confused.

Conservatives love to talk about how we won’t get as good medical care with universal healthcare because the doctors won’t be paid enough, but every single doctor I’ve heard speak on the matter has said they would support universal healthcare. It’s almost like people become doctors because they want to help people and not because they want money.

Just so y’all Trump supporters know, I am not required to have respect for you. You voted for a man who is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people. You voted for, in my eyes, a mass murderer. So no, I don’t respect you or your beliefs because you support a fucking mass murderer who tried to overthrow democracy. I wanna address something I’ve seen a lot of. Bear in mind that this post is not addressing or defending anything J.K. Rowling has said about the trans community. To be clear, trans rights are human rights. But this post is not about that. This is strictly about some of the racism accusations I’ve seen. I just wanted to clarify some things so that people don’t feel guilty for enjoying books that many are claiming to themselves be racist. The first thing I wanted to clarify is about house elves. House elves are not based on slavery, as many people have claimed. House elves are actually taken directly from English folklore. Almost every detail is pulled directly from there, so this is an extremely easy claim to debunk. I also wanted to address the discussion about goblins. First, I will say that goblins have always been portrayed as greedy with large hooked noses, though that could definitely be related to antisemitism. However, the fact of the matter is that Rowling never described the goblins as having hooked noses in the books. The only goblin described as having a hooked nose was Griphook. It was just one of his facial features. All of the goblins having hooked noses was a decision made by the film team, not Rowling. The final things I wanted to discuss are the names. Two in particular. Cho Chang and Kingsley Shacklebolt. The argument about Kingsley in particular is just ridiculous. The last name Shacklebolt has nothing to do with slavery any more than Flitwick does with candle wicks or Lockhart does with Locks or Hufflepuff does with smoking or Bagshot does with shooting bags or Fudge does with chocolate- you see my point. The books contain a myriad of ridiculous names that are not innuendos, so why should we assume this one is? As for the Cho Chang matter, yes, they are both last names. However, there was clearly no racist intent in this. She saw the names. She thought they sounded good together. It’s alliterative, like so many other names in her books. That’s it. So are the books a little insensitive by today’s standards? Yes. But so are a lot of things. Hindsight is 20/20 people. Are they racist though? No, they’re not. So think whatever you want about the books’ author, but the books themselves are not racist, so please feel free to read them without any guilt. They are wonderful books that have managed to make hundreds of millions of people happy, and it’d be a shame to stop people from reading them because of false information being spread on the internet.

The trope that the alt scene hates Christianity is such bullshit. Twenty One Pilots. Black Sabbath. Skillet. We don’t have a problem with any of them. Nor do most of us have a problem with people outside of the alt scene who are Christian. Taylor Swift. Dolly Parton. Lady Gaga. Most of us love them. We don’t have a problem with Christianity. We have a problem with people manipulating and guilt tripping non-Christians. It’s pretty simple actually. Just don’t be a dick about it and no one will have a problem with you.
