Baby Damian (and Jason)
For favorite long (80k+) fic, I would have to pick another fic by horsecrazy, this time All Things Loved and Lovesick. It’s 90k and GODD these idiots I love them so bad. They’re just trying to take care of farm animals, elbow deep helping animals give birth at 3 AM all the while desperately wanting each other. I screamed a bit when they finally kissed I won’t lie.
For favorite mid length (30k-80k) fic, there were a LOT of contenders (most of my extra recs could’ve fit here) but I would have to pick From Where You Stand by fifty_fifty. The concept there was one I haven’t seen a whole lot (body swapping their way into a magic reveal) which surprises me cause that sounds so merlin-esque??? really loved the chaos brought on by that
For favorite short fic (<30k), I would have to choose Into Perdition by athousandvictories. If there’s one thing I’m a sucker for it’s religious guilt themes, and if there’s a snarky merlin in there too even better. the tension and resolution in this is just Delicious and Merlin is so bold I’m living for it.
And here’s a few more rapid fire October reads that I enjoyed!
An Illusion of Sorts by lordvoldemortsnipple. looove the magician x magic crossover
Chrysalis by i_canz_kill_dragon, a very well done coming of age/personal acceptance story
Tales of Magic by amithia. The coffee shop subtle magic OOO i eat it up, i love the take on Merlin’s magic being just this little instinct.
Awake by corilannam and phoenixacid- this is definitely a great and unique arthur returns scenario, with all the questions and mystery and love involved
Arthur Pendragon VS the World by Ally_Oop. more modern than the last but yet another unique take on Arthur returning, very well done and makes you wonder what the hell is happening
Swans Lost in the Stream of Time by DracoWillHearAboutThis. reincarnation memory returning goodness
I didn’t reread anything in October which is crazy because it’s the first month since May of this year that I haven’t! instead, I will recommend one of my most reread merlin fics: Rule Number Four of which the account has been orphaned. I love the silliness and tension and multi identity aspect of it, just such a good work all around for whenever you want a goofy, modern, powerful merthur duo.
~ and check out my September recs here ~
oh my god...
so the first screenshot is trying to look this up on tiktok normally, "donald trump rigged election" and it says that search violates community guidelines.
the second screenshot is looking up the same exact thing, but with a (australian) vpn on. canadian vpn didn't fix it fyi.
THIS is exactly the type of censorship to be looking out for on tiktok. this actually is crazy.
How do you feel about Jason Todd's helmet bomb?
one of the funniest things he could have done. that thing is like a bowling ball anyway, i want to see a scene of him getting overwhelmed in a fight and acting all dramatic taking off his helmet like 'oh my god. this is the end for me. how could i let this happen.' and then he lobs the thickass metal helmet at a guys head and breaks his fucking skull in one move. the rest of the goons are like '....ok that was sick but you only have one of them and now we have it and we're more pissed.' and jason's just like 'wait for it' and then he fuckin explodes them all
Readers, make sure you have all your favourite Ao3 fics downloaded.
Writers, make sure you have copies of all the fics you have posted on Ao3.
I don’t want to be alarming, but things could get really bad really fast. OTW shared this today on Twitter, and I'm a bit worried about it 😅
Ao3 is a non-profit organisation. If they have to start paying taxes, I have no idea what will happen.
he was kinda real for this
Thread on alternative views of iconic landmarks you (probably) haven’t seen before 🧵
1. Mount Fuji from a plane window.
2. Arc de Triomphe, Paris
3. Aerial view of Kaaba, Mecca
4. A view of the Taj Mahal that you do not usually see, highlighting the stark contrast between opulence and poverty divided by a single wall.
5. Top down view of the Statue of Liberty
6. The backside of Tutankhamun's burial mask
7. The dome of St. Peter’s Basilica seen through Rome's most famous keyhole.
8. The worn steps of the Tower of Pisa
9. Photographer Alexander Ladanivskyy, in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism, captured an extraordinary drone shot of the Great Pyramid of Giza from an unusual perspective.
10. The Shanhai Pass, where the Great Wall of China meets the ocean.

Rewatched this show recently. It makes me nauseous
Phantom, a small-time hero with extraordinary capabilities, has been absolutely dominating the field.
His powers, supernatural though they are, seem to be particularly adept in space.
He brought his rogues along to assist, not unusual in this lineup, and the Justoce League can honestly say that if it wasn't for Phantom and his Rogue Gallery they'd be losing.
As it stands, they're winning.
It just took them a few hours to get there.
Then, just as Wonder Woman delivers the final blow, a giant ship appears out of seemingly nowhere.
It's ghostly in nature, clearly one of Phantoms, and...it spears Phantom.
A spectral harpoon flies through the void that is space, impales Phantom through the chest, and drags him back to the ship.
~~~~~~
Aboard Youngbloods ship, Danny yanks out the harpoon with a huff and heals almost immediately.
"Seriously? I was in the middle of something!"
"You promised we'd fight at 6pm! You promised!"
happy birthday hayao miyazaki :)
I saw a lot of unwarranted criticism against ep06 of the Percy Jackson TV series, how there's no Lady Gaga or it didn't match the book. I think you guys were colored by the movie too much, with the trippy colorful lights and Grover's dancing. Iconic as that scene would be, it only works when the trio are late teenagers or near adults. Are you sure you're comfortable watching a bunch of 12 year olds gambling and clubbing?
Even if we followed the book exactly it would be a boring episode. If you remember The Lightning Thief, that chapter consists of the trio playing games all day and Percy only realised what was wrong when he saw the 70s-looking guy.
A scene like that would only last at least 10 minutes max, just like in the movie. It would be an empty episode leaving you wondering why they didn't just cut the entire lotus scene entirely and just explain the Nico plot points with a sentence in the future season.
I think this episode worked well when you insisted on having the Lotus casino scene. Instead of watching kids wasting time playing games. You get to explore the relationship between Hermes with Luke, and what's Annabeth's thoughts on it. And why after all this time Annabeth still believe in Luke. We also get to see the parenting style between Hermes and Poseidon. And how different Walker's Percy idea of his father is from ep03 till now.
Also, the taxi scene is fun. No notes.
