I’m a total shipper and this is really important ⬆️ love this podcast, I interpret it as super gay but that’s just part of how I enjoy it. Lots of people interpret the characters as aro/ace and enjoy it that way.

Making a post bc I am still every other week or so seeing posts from new fans talking about how John/Arthur better be canon bc they’ll be mad otherwise or asking if it is or SAYING it is and I need other people to spread this around and actually listen to me.

Harlan has said they won’t end up romantically together. No look at me. Canonically they won’t. He loves the fics and stuff and finds it enjoyable, but they aren’t going to be canon.

That means that you have GOT to stop trying to get new fans in by saying how gay it is. That might work in 2010 when bury your gays was the most you could ask for but there’s actual rep now, if you tell someone something is gay they’re going to be expecting to SEE it at some point.

You are putting Harlan, who makes the entire show by himself and does not have anything vetted, does not have a pr team, and is active in the fandom, in danger. People are already calling it queerbait and gaslighting. You are disappointing and pissing off people who want to see venom/Eddie and aren’t going to get it.

Saying you love someone and showing them life experiences they haven’t had isn’t inherently romantic, especially if one of you is new to the being human thing, it’s the 1930s so the entire masculinity romance landscape is entirely different, and you share a body and couldn’t leave if you wanted. It’s not homophobic to manage expectations.

Queerbaiting is when a show is promised to be queer to bring in the queer audience and then they don’t. He’s specifically said it isn’t. YOU are queerbaiting people. I can not continue to every other week see an excited fresh faced person say they got into the show bc they heard it’s a queer podcast or has gay rep when it’s blatantly untrue. I can’t see more see it’s canon friends would never do this together. It’s fun to play with and I love it, it’s a fun ship, but you have to stop telling people it’s real and the only option.

I'm sorry but can we talk about Arthur's similarities to Faust???

*Spoiler warning for up to ep31*

For those who don't know German folklore/ literature, Faust follows the tale of a depressed and suicidal man who makes a deal with the devil to fufill his desire for knowledge. Now despite us knowing how Arthur's hunger for information has put his and John's survival at risk on multiple ocasions, There's so many parallels!

Faust makes a deal with a demon, not to concerned with the price. Arthur also makes a deal with a demon (kayne) not to concerned of the price.

Faust seduce a beautiful and innocent young woman, usually named Gretchen, whose life is ultimately destroyed when she gives birth to Faust's illegitimate son. Realizing this unholy act, she drowns the child and is held for murder. I DONT THINK I NEED to talk about this much. The fact that Faroe died drowning, that Faroe was also concieved out of wedlock, that Bella's family is super religious. Also the fact that arthur was this close to destroying Bella's life and leaving her with the child, plays an INTERESTING paraell.

Faust is irrevocably corrupted and believes his sins cannot be forgiven; when the term ends, the Devil carries him off to Hell. Let's just refference all of Arthur's Nightmares and his breakdown after killing Uncle.

I do find this concept interesting because Arthur is heading to New York as Kayne desire, from what prophesies insit is to serve the order of the Fallen Star. If we follow Faustian folklore, it's likely that Arthur is entering a trap in which he's going to see the fine print of his deal, and find himself in servitude. Considering in the story, Mephistopheles (the devils representative) serves Faust with his powers until death, and then the roles reverse. I do find it interesting, considering John is essentially at Arthur's beck and call. Could his secret deal between John and Kayne have something to do with an act of servitude. Has he got something in it to protect himself ? John seems quite desperate to keep Arthur from death, seems more afraid of what waits for arrhur than himself. Something seemed to insist they wont end up in the same place. maybe he knows that the deals made will have Arthur enterally enslaved.

There is a slightly more modern interpretation in which Faust is saved by God via his constant attempts to be a good person. Who knows, maybe John could be his saving grace, and push him in the direction of freedom. Will the King in Yellow save Arthur from Kayne, does God save his follower from the devil?

These are interesting questions, that have me scared.

something that i really like about blue eye samurai, now that im thinking about it, is that it discusses violence against women without becoming torture porn. like, in a lot of media that portrays women's issues, they show you that scene. like they give you this extended visual of a woman experiencing something traumatic and then laud themselves as feminist for doing so.

blue eye samurai doesn't do that. the whole show is set in a world that is extremely antagonistic toward women, and it makes a point to tell you that being a woman right now sucks, because they are property and are used sexually. but even though it doesn't shy away from this, it doesn't show you the violence itself, which you would almost expect it to because of how graphic the rest of the show is.

im thinking specifically of kinuyo. they very well could have shown us a scene of her being abused, but they didn't. they didn't show the abuse itself, but they did show how it affected her. they showed her seeing a doctor for her sores. they could have made this incredibly traumatic and grotesque scene a spectacle, showing us exactly how powerless she is and how powerful he is. they could have shown us this incredibly triggering event in full detail for our entertainment, but they didn't. they chose not to. and i think that's how it should be.

it is not necessary to have an extended visual and auditory reenactment of violence against women. we the audience understood the gravity of the situation and were able to empathize without needing that scene. having that scene would have completely detracted from the point they are trying to make. it would have turned something completely reprehensible that women everywhere fear because it's a very real issue into entertainment.
