The Polish Army in World War II, despite being poorly equipped compared to other armies, fought fiercely against the German invasion, initially defending their homeland in the "September Campaign" before forming a significant exiled force that fought alongside the Allies in the West, particularly distinguishing themselves in the Italian campaign and the Battle of Monte Cassino, with notable contributions also made by the Polish Air Force and Navy throughout the war; they are recognized for their significant resistance movement within occupied Poland, known as the "Home Army" (Armia Krajowa), which engaged in sabotage and intelligence gathering against the German occupation forces.
