(Summer Study Challenge) 8/22/2020: Imagine that you could fill a swimming pool with anything except water and swim in it. What would your pool be filled with?

This is giving me too many flashbacks from competitive swimming, so I’ll stay away from the pool if it’s cool with you. ;)

Nineteen credits and two honors seminars sure do hit you kinda fast, don’t they? I’ve started blocking out my days schedule wise and I’m loving it so far. It feels so much better than the pomodoro method for me. I’m usually allotting an hour and a half to each subject and an hour to do these posts should I have the time to do them. As you can see, I don’t post every day on here, and probably won’t. This semester is busy, busy!

The first two days of classes went pretty well, and my internship is off to a great start. I’m enjoying my classes so far, but I still have two more that haven’t met yet. Also catch me trying to learn Latin myself - the textbook went straight to verb conjugation and I respect that but I have no idea if I’m doing any of this right.

Hope you’re all doing well. Steady on!

some maths notes! i was inspired by one of my friend’s minimalistic Cornell notes so i decided to try this style out :)

personally, maths notes have to be very minimalistic otherwise it gets way too confusing 😓 i only need the bare bones of what to remember! i have fun with brush pens and colours in subjects like bio and geo ;)

Grammar Lesson 4: 이/가 vs.는/은

image

안녕하세요! 환영합니다~

Hello! Welcome~ ⚠️CAUTION⚠️ Grab your pencils and papers! There’s a lot of info ahead!

This is a big struggle for Korean language learners and so, I decided to cover this confusing topic. I haven’t formally taught the particles ‘이/가’ because they have a similar function as ‘는/은’ BUT there are some differences that I will cover below!

If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a message or leave a reply down below! Happy studying~

┌─                ・。゚: ∘◦☾◦。゚.                    ─┐

     L e s s o n   4  :  이/가 vs.는/은

└─                 ・。゚: ∘◦☾◦。゚.                   ─┘

Grammar Lesson 4: 이/가 Vs.는/은

는/은 is a particle that indicates which part of the sentence is a subject. Add 는 after the object if the last letter of the last syllable is a vowel and 은 if the last letter of the last syllable is a consonant.

e x a m p l e s :

Vowel: 그 옷은 비싸다. (That clothing is expensive.)

Consonant: 나는 예쁘다. (I am pretty.)

Grammar Lesson 4: 이/가 Vs.는/은

Add 가 after the object if the last letter of the last syllable is a vowel and 이 if the last letter of the last syllable is a consonant.

e x a m p l e s :

Vowel: 주스가 맛있다 (The juice is tasty.)

Consonant: 가방이 크다. (The bag is big.)

이/가 are subject particles that answer/ask who, what, and/or which.  Let me explain: If Person A asks:

A: “누가 먹었어요?” (Who ate it?)

We use 가 because the person is asking who ate it.

Grammar Lesson 4: 이/가 Vs.는/은

Let’s see what Person B answers Person A:

A: “누가 먹었어요?”  (Who ate it?)

B: “제가요.” (I did.)

BUT, what if Person C says:

C: “저는 안 먹었어요.” (I didn’t eat it.)

By using  저는 instead of 제가,  Person C shows CONTRAST, EMPHASIS, and DISTIGUISHMENT compared to Person B who said that they ate it. 는/은 differentiates his/her idea with Person C.

And…that’s it! Congrats, you made it to the end! 축하해요! 🎉🎉

If you’re new, I’m Alli and I make my own infographics to help you learn Korean with ease! If you’re interested in more of these types of lessons, visit my blog here!

P.S. What do you guys think of the new color theme?

I swear i questioned life more than i already do already.

what does your bio mean? "the sea was never blue" ?

Homer used two adjectives to describe aspects of the colour blue: kuaneos, to denote a dark shade of blue merging into black; and glaukos, to describe a sort of ‘blue-grey’, notably used in Athena’s epithet glaukopis, her ‘grey-gleaming eyes’. He describes the sky as big, starry, or of iron or bronze (because of its solid fixity). The tints of a rough sea range from ‘whitish’ (polios) and ‘blue-grey’ (glaukos) to deep blue and almost black (kuaneos, melas). The sea in its calm expanse is said to be ‘pansy-like’ (ioeides), ‘wine-like’ (oinops), or purple (porphureos). But whether sea or sky, it is never just ‘blue’. In fact, within the entirety of ancient Greek literature you cannot find a single pure blue sea or sky.

— The Sea Was Never Blue, Maria Michela Sassi

What, from a cursory glance, appears blue generally has more to say. You lift a precious stone to the sunlight and it lights up, it refracts, but there’s always a side you can’t see. If you think you’ve thought of it all, think a little longer. There’s always more to consider.

19 March 2020 | I’ve Been Rather Quiet Lately, But Here Is A Little Glimpse Into What “social Distancing”

19 March 2020 | I’ve been rather quiet lately, but here is a little glimpse into what “social distancing” looks like for me. It just so happened that this was the first semester of my program that I was doing almost entirely by distance anyway so remarkably little has changed for me in how I do my coursework. I’m thankful for how little the present pandemic has disrupted my education and know that very few can say the same. My husband, who was until a couple of days ago in the midst of his clinical rotations for medical school in a nearby emergency department, has been much more directly affected and involved in combating the current outbreak. Join me in praying for our entire world—as no one is unaffected by this virus—for when one suffers we all suffer together, recognizing the value and dignity of every human being be they near or far.

O Master and Lord, our Savior, Healer of all, stay by our side in this time of uncertainty and sorrow.

Thursday, the 3rd of November

I woke up before my alarm tonight, spending the additional time with my dog thinking about what I liked and didn't like about yesterday's mental health day. Yes, I got some much needed sleep but although I sketched a little, ate healthy and took it slow I was disappointed. Why did I not use that time I took for myself to read, to create, to go for an actual hike? I felt paralysed in my freedom - I spent hours feeding my head with things I don't care about at all. I don't know whether it was out of fatigue, convenience or being overwhelmed by my schedule. Whatever was the root it gave me a glimpse into a time that I never want to experience again. So today I will start small. Putting only three things on my to-do list and doing self care based on necessity, not my planning.
