Go ahead and email again. They tend to be very busy and emails can get lost! My rabbi was away the week I contacted the synagogue, so it took a bit to hear back. If you haven't heard anything though, you're email probably got lost though, so don't feel bad about contacting them again!
I have a question for other Jews by choice: when you first contacted a rabbi, how long did it take for them to initially respond? I emailed the rabbi in my town over two weeks ago now and still haven't heard anything. Is this normal or should I try contacting the rabbi/the temple again? And would it be better to call than to email?
A prehistoric grave in Austria may represent the oldest burial of twins on record, a new study finds. And what makes it even more exciting is that the twins did not die at the same time. Yet the twins were buried together in the same grave, separate from another infant burial a few feet (1.5 meters) away. Read the full story here…
About 31,000 years ago, a skilled prehistoric surgeon cut off the lower leg of a child hunter-gatherer in Borneo. Now, archaeologists have concluded that this ancient surgery is the earliest medical amputation on record.
The skill of the Stone Age surgeon was admirable; the patient went on to live an additional six to nine years after the surgery, a radiocarbon dating performed by researchers of the individual’s tooth enamel revealed, according to a study published online Wednesday (Sept. 7) in the journal Nature.
“It was a huge surprise that this ancient forager survived a very serious and life-threatening childhood operation, that the wound healed to form a stump and that they then lived for years in mountainous terrain with altered mobility,” study co-author Melandri Vlok, a bioarchaeologist and postdoctoral research associate at the University of Sydney,“ said in a statement. ”[This suggests] a high degree of community care.“ Read more.

I think it’s really insulting that westerners talk about communism. y'all had it too good and now y'all are being spoiled little brats. let me talk to you about the women and men executed and how their bodies were thrown out of trains and the basic food being rationed so harshly that we actually started black markets for fucking sugar and oil and let me talk to you about how they used to spy on everyone, we had mikes in our homes, how they made kids rat on each other and how controlled the education was. lights went out at 7. my parents used to study by a candle. everything. was. controlled. everyone. was. oppressed.
When I was in second grade I was targeted by my teacher for isolation and harassment. If you got a ticket for misbehavior you didn't get to sit and watch a movie and eat candy with the rest of the kids on Friday, and every single week without fail I was sitting to the side alone. Half way through the year she switched it so tickets were for good behavior and you got to see the movie and eat candy and if you didn't get one, you had to sit alone. She scared me so badly that my already existing reading issues got worse and I just could not read or learn to read. She was young too, basically a new teacher, totally taking out her frustrations on kids and targeting me for her basically abuse. The administration was actually listening though, and was going to investigate her about getting her license revoked. Still, you shouldn't get a license in the first place if you're like this.
Something needs to be done about teachers who hate kids tbh
MOTHER FUCKING
This is the day my friend committed suicide three years ago. We were freshmen back. I had moved to a different state and we hadn’t had contact in months. When I left, he refused to accept that we would never see each other, isn’t that ironic? My friend John Chris. The guy who would stand there talking to me for ten minutes about his turtles, about his job at the pond in town. The guy I tried stop people from bullying. He committed suicide December 16th because he was being bullied. Don’t stand to the side, guys. If you’re being bullied, get help. If you see it, get help. Don’t let more innocents like John Chris feel like their only choice is for release is suicide. Please.
My second grade teacher would scream at us and was generally horrible, but she specifically targeted me for some reason. Every week on Friday, if you didn't get a ticket for bad behavior, you could sit with the rest of the class and get candy and watch a movie. I never got a ticket, not once. Then! Halfway through the year, she swapped it, so if you were good, you'd get a ticket for good behavior, and then I didn't get any tickets at all. I was almost always the only kid left out, almost always. I think I had one week the entire time I was in that class where I got to sit with the others and watch the movie, every other week I was functionally called out in front of the class for being a Bad Kid and kept away from the others. I had ADHD and some form of dyslexia probably, but I was always a people pleaser, there was nothing I would have been doing that warranted this aside from struggling not to talk in class like every other kid. She also scared me so bad that I forgot what ability to read I did have at the time and had to be put in remediation when I changed schools. No one thought to test me for ADHD. She didn't mention behavior issues to my parents much, I think. I did get tested for dyslexia but because I started reading better out of her class, they stopped, so I never actually got any academic support. Last I heard about that teacher, they were considering revoking her license, and I really hope they did because no kid deserves to go through what she did.
I'm sorry to hear that sweetie!! Don't beat yourself up over it, it was just a small mistake and I'm sure you'll get a chance to do something like this again in the future.
I'm planning on doing band next year in college no matter what. I don't really like competitive stuff too, just really disappointed today.
