Things In My Life That, When Framed As A Hobbit, Are So Much Better

Things in my life that, when framed as a Hobbit, are so much better

maybe this is hobbitcore (it totally is)

- not wearing shoes when I go outside (a given)

- being a little bit of a jack of all trades, master of none

- singing little songs when doing literally anything just to cheer yourself up

- putting lots of effort into outfits (a p r o n s)

- putting no effort into outfits (k h a k i s)

- baking!!! even when it doesn’t turn out looking perfect but it tastes amazing

- having a comfortable work ethic for you and only you

- finding things and going “this’ll look good in my house” (it’s just an acorn)

- loving your friends and family to the ends of the earth

- my height (5′0″ and shrinking)

- my shape

- eating habits that are hard to shake (it’s okay to have another snack, call it elevensies)

- messy hair days

- darker hair on arms and legs (and feeling like you don’t have to shave)

- having the smallest hobbies that make the biggest difference

- dreaming of adventure, but understanding that you’ll find time for it when you feel ready. (bonus! appreciating home after a long day)

- the inherent romanticism of escapism from hyper capitalist societies without the worries of cottagecore

- distance from social constructs in said hyper capitalist society but not distance from society itself.

- safety in numbers

- a place where the people feel like home too

Let me tell you something. I dont want eloise or cressida to get lavender married to some man. This is not a tv show for compromises. I want them to fuck nasty in the house library, I want everyone to know that those two have something going on and gossip but never dare say it out loud, I want them to have royal immunity in society and stroll around arms linked and head high, I want them to make out in the park behind a tree, I want them to turn down men. It's time to start asking stupid tv shows to let lesbians have stupid moments

Where to find free patterns

Vintage patterns can be a great resource for all sorts of knits and because many are out of copyright they are free to access.

I have two websites I go to for free vintage patterns. They are freevintageknitting.com and freevintagecrochet.com. These are my first stop for newer vintage patterns because it collects old out of print pamphlets and makes them easy to read. The sites also have information on discontinued yarn, hook and needle conversion and more. They are a great start to historical (or vintage) knitting.

For older books you can head to archive.org/details/knittingreferencelibrary. Books in this collection are simply photocopies so you would need to translate the patterns yourself. But it does contain Victorian to WW 2 books.

Blogs and sites like Ravelry are also a good place to start looking for patterns. There are many free versions of vintage patterns and paid for ones can be helpful because the authors will do the work of updating the needles, yarn and pattern wordage.

When working with vintage or antique patterns there are a few things to keep in mind. One is stitch definitions — always check what the pattern book describes as each stitch you’re making (this is very important for crochet!) Another one is to convert the needle size and find a good yarn substitution.

Before you start transcribing or picking a new yarn, make sure it can fit you and if you’ll want to try grading. Vintage sizes are different than modern ones and it is best to use a guide to get an estimate.

Here’s a quick chart with some measurements for vintage sizes https://purplekittyyarns.com/vintage-body-measurements-size-chart.

The next step is to start transcribing and depends on how old the pattern is. The older the pattern the more likely you'll want to read it through and decide if you need to transcribe it.

This can include typing up the pattern in a way which makes sense for you or to map it out on a chart. This can take a few tries and I like to start with smaller and less complicated patterns. Occasionally you might not even need to transcribe it.

Next you’ll need to find the yarn substitution which will give you needles as well. If the pattern includes a gauge use that as a guideline to find a substitution. For a more in depth read visit https://knitpal.com/blogs/knitpal/how-to-substitute-yarn-for-vintage-knitting-patterns.

And once you've found the size you'll need, made the pattern readable and found your replacement you're ready to start knitting. Happy cast on!

I’m legitimately sad about Miura’s passing. I’m sad that he died- while not exactly a young man, he was not yet old either. I’m sad that he died before getting to finish his life’s work. I’m sad that he didn’t get to finish telling his story; not simply because we wanted to read it, but because he put so much of himself into it. Doubly so because Berserk was a story with so much to say; often misunderstood for its early era; over its lifespan Berserk was an emotionally nuanced and heartfelt story of stubborn light and irrepressible goodness in a world of overwhelming darkness; recovery and love and finding oneself despite it all.

His work was an inspiration to so many others; you can hardly point a finger at a popular fantasy setting in many, many years that hasn’t taken at least some inspiration, big or small, from the vivid and incredibly detailed world that he painted with his words and his art.

Certainly, even if his own work remains unfinished, his legacy will still be remembered for countless years and decades as a triumph of its genre, and a true effort of passion by a man wholly dedicated to both his work and his play, and sharing that passion with others through it.

A legend among manga, and all kinds of fantasy truly.

full offense but hozier did not release several songs saying “fuck cops, fuck capitalism, fuck fascism, fuck settler colonialism, white liberalism is useless, and also FUCK COPS” to be reduced to colonial cottagecore aesthetic by white women and be compared someone who uses tepid high school metaphors to talk about the Democrats like jfc
