She sat when he sat, and stared for too long just like he did. She saw his eyes taking in her new hair and her new tattoos, just as she took in his new facial hair, and his new… wedding ring. Suddenly the ten years felt like ten years. There was less than a foot in physical distance between them now, but there were ten full years, and a spouse, and at least one baby. But even so, she couldn’t stop herself from fucking smiling at him.

“It’s good to see you,” she said, and it was, although it probably shouldn’t have been. It was weird to see him, older and married and scared of her, but the dappled projector light softened everything. Like they were the ones in nostalgic black-and-white. “How long have you been married?”

The way she smiled at him kept his nerves from growing further out the lines. it was a familiarity he appreciated as he really tried to let time settle between them. The corners of his mouth lifted, causing his eyes to wrinkle with a soft smile. “I was gonna say the same thing.” He said, bringing his eyes back to her. Though he was still careful around her. Out of precaution or experience; he didn’t know which. He brought his eyes back to the screen. because he couldn’t let himself dote on her appearance any longer. It was far too easy to fall back into admiring her looks. He owed some restrain at the very least for his twenty-three year old self. he carried that broken hearted twenty something leo, too close and too long.

At her question about his marriage caused his brows shot up and he looked at his left hand. The white gold still glinted in this light. “Oh,” he enthused and arranged his hands so his left one was out of view at the side of his popcorn bucket. “Almost a year or so.” He replied not really knowing the date by memory. It was somewhere in his phone. He finally looked at her again. “What about you--married?” He questioned quickly, his curiosity getting the best of him. his eyes even flicked downward to her hands.

closed starter: @blakemadden where: on the beach on coney island

“That should fucking do it.” Leo huffed and dusted off as much dry sand as he could on his shorts. He surveyed the beach umbrella once more, triple checking the angle of it against the sun. There was no way his daughter was going to overheat on his watch. He turned to see his... his mind tried to search for a word to describe Blake and who she was to him. Baby mama just seemed to be tainted with negativity. And Blake deserved a pedestal for what she had given him. His mind settled on his daughter and the mother of his child as he squinted at the two of them. “Almost done.” He said pressing a kiss on Mira’s forehead as she was in Blake’s arms. Then Leo moved to lay out a large waterproof mat before spreading out a sheet upon it. Once he was done, he theatrically laid down, immediately enjoying the fruit of his labor.

More than a few minutes had passed that there was only silence between the two; nothing but the ticking of the clock and the tapping of her fingers against her clipboard bouncing off of the walls of her office. Leo had been one of her most stubborn clients by far, and he was even more so without his wife to give him a little nudge in their sessions. She was at a loss of how to get through to him. “Mr. Davis, I’m sure you’re aware that therapy only works when you actually engage in discussion. It’s not worth either of our time to simply sit and stare at one another.”

Smug. Completely smug is how anyone could describe Leo in this very moment. Not to mention stubborn and withholding, but he focused on feeling a sense of pride of wasting her time. He, however, was not wasting his time but earning it. the longer he kept her at bay extended his time with his wife. he believed that the woman in front of him wasn’t helping, but making everything worse. anything he said this room was being analyzed. and, hell, not to mention the things his wife would bring up. leo wanted to keep giving her nothing.

“I’ve got nothing I’d like to discuss with you.” Leo said looking dead into her eyes. There was no hatred in his expression though his words didn’t come from anywhere kind. He looked away from her and relaxed further in his seat. soon he began stroking his beard with his thumb.

Elijah loved events like this, especially when it came to a masquerade theme. He was walking around and came across the boys and girls club donation table and he could see that someone was there contemplating. Elijah was always one to donate to a cause because he didn’t mind helping out someone else if he could.

As he reached out and grabbed his own form to fill out to donate he heard the man talking about how much he should donate and if what he was donating was enough and he nodded his head. “Of course. Anything is better than not donating! Five dollars can make a big difference to someone. Plus is everyone here donated five dollars there would be a lot of damn money in there.” He explained to the other person.

Leo tilted his head to the side, a incredulous look upon his hidden face as he looked at the other man. It wasn’t the appalled response that he was always fishing for. His visible mouth pulled up into a wrinkled side smirk. “Sorry, I didn’t realize I’ve bumped to the legendary, Mr. Brightside.” He lightheartedly teased and he fought the urge to mentally play The Killers’ song in his head. “Truth of the matter is, all these donations are probably just going to be used for this party.” He gestured to the grandness surrounding them. Like a disgruntled child, he just had to show the other what exactly was behind the curtain.

She sat there, waiting for the screaming to begin. It wouldn’t be the first time someone had embarrassed her in public because of a mistake she had made. It certainly wasn’t going to the last. It was fine. She just wouldn’t come back to this bar. She would find a new one that Leo didn’t come to and they would never have to cross paths again. It would be fine. Everything was always fine. Annie was really good at avoiding people.

But much to her surprise, it never came. Her brows furrowed in confusion. In fact, he seemed to…open up a bit more. She blinked a few times, trying to process everything. She shook her head, her curls shaking with it, “No, no. It’s not your fault. Really. I-It’s mine. I should have checked. It was really stupid of me not to. I’m sorry.” She swallowed a lump that grown in her throat before she stopped rubbing her hands nervously together. Devin hated it when she do that.

Annie shook her hands out and turned a bit more towards Leo, “You don’t?” She asked, “I only really like football.” Annie paused for a moment before she spoke again and giggled, “American football, I mean. Soccer is boring.” She had always thought that. But American football was pretty interesting, surprisingly. She just never really went out of her way to watch it. She was more drama TV show kind of gal.

“Can I get you another drink?” Annie asked suddenly, sitting up a bit, looking towards the bartender, “What is it that you’re drinking? Just whiskey?” She asked, looking at the glass. She wasn’t great at picking out drinks, to be quite honest, “I should have put two and two together.” She shook her head, still thinking about her mistake, “If you wanted a beer, you would have had one.” Yeah, that was stupid.

She had giggled and he took that as a win. Though it seemed to be this fear that kind of blanket over her, that he still couldn’t take off. He thought all things involving a ball and men were boring. Women’s sports, however... “Whiskey,” he answered, the amount in left in his cup lightening in amber as it began to water down further. He was about to finish it off, but he couldn’t let this conversation continue like this. He couldn’t stand to just watch someone with a sweet disposition and face tear herself down.

“Yes, I’ll take that whiskey but, only if you could stop doing that?” He asked, again so blunt, and never in a rightful place. “I’m not the nicest, but I’m being a lot nicer to you than you are being to yourself.” He said, making the observation out loud. A little cruel in the name of being honest, but he kept his voice even and gentle as he could. His eyes became a little wide as he said a little punchline to hopefully make his words not sound so serious, “Like, geez, Annie who hurt you?”

Mia tilted her head a bit, “Alright, if you’re okay with it then.” she smiled. He was right, it was an act and it didn’t mean anything but an act. She had to remember that no matter how great the kiss was. She couldn’t honestly remember the last time she had been kissed like that. She couldn’t remember the last time she had any fun with a guy at all. Work had kept her so busy that she hadn’t any time to go out with friends or meet new guys. Though, the one she shared a part with tends to linger in her head from time to time. As she heard him speak again, “Right the drink.” she chuckled and made her way over to the bar. She bent over a bit to speak to the bartender, ordering two drinks for them to start with. She made her order of what she wanted then looked over at Leo, “What would you like to drink?” she asked for the bartender.

Leo let out of breath, and it was more of one of relief. He didn’t have to go to far to convince this stranger that their kiss didn’t mean anything. At least, it didn’t mean anything romantically, but he couldn’t deny the way it made his flesh feel. But he knew he had to behave, no matter how beautiful this woman was. He never seized to become attracted. He followed behind her fighting the urge to watch her shape with each step. Then finally they were at the bar.

“A whiskey sour, to start with,” he smirked, wording it in such a way because he clearly wanted his well deserved second drink. Though it felt nice fo put on an act outside of a classroom. A game of improv with actual stakes. Isn’t that what life already was? Leo’s gaze followed the back of the bartender and they went off to make their respective drinks. Leo looked back at the new siren in his life and leaned against the counter. “So, I’m guessing this is the part where I ask for your name?” He asked, his cheeks and brows lifting in a comical manner.

nate-jones:

Whenever Nate was set on something, he was stuck until he would do it. And with his contract soon ending- just after the Sleeping Beauty run- he knew he had to find alternatives. He loved ballet, but Kal was right, even if his words had been said with absolute anger. What was he doing with his life? He had danced for years, it was only a matter of time before his body would start catching up with everything he was doing, and he needed alternatives. Either way, he wanted to improve. No matter what happened, he wanted to be the best at what he did, even if he knew he was very, very far away from it. But he could try, and he might as well start with extra lessons.

He had researched Leo Davis before making his way to NYU, hoping to find him somewhere. His success rate was amazing, he seemed absolutely perfect at what he did, and that was what Nate needed. Maybe, in some way, someone’s brilliance would rub off on him, making him at least a little bit better. However, there was one problem; he couldn’t afford the lessons. So, finishing up work, he made his way to the campus, counting on miraculously finding the class. And for once, luck was on his side; just as he was approaching one of the buildings, the man walked out, the sudden appearance throwing the dancer off his feet. He hadn’t even rehearsed the speech he was planning to give, and here the teacher was, so close!

Nate was standing there for a little too long, and by the time he snapped out of it, the man was already on his way somewhere else. That was perfect! He could try and follow him, catch up to him and stop him so they could have a conversation. That was totally normal, right? It seemed normal to Nate, especially in a city like this. So he walked, practicing the speech inside his head, murmuring the words every once in a while as he walked a good few meters away from the man, both trying to catch up to him and to make sure that he wouldn’t screw it up when he did.

All came crashing down when he realized the man was now standing still, so close to him, and Nate suddenly came to a complete stop, surprise overflowing him.

“Oh, hi! Sorry! I promise I wasn’t stalking you or doing anything shady, which probably sounds extremely shady right now, but still! I just- I know you’re a fantastic acting coach, and I was hoping I could somehow persuade you to teach me.” He always ranted when he was nervous, and yet, a small smile appeared on Nate’s face. “Sorry about that.”

-

People on the outside were constantly telling him what a success he was. Yet his mind always finished off their praises with the tag line: for an acting coach. He had the highest callback and booking rate, currently, in the university circle. He should have proud about that. All the dumb comments and directions he was giving to his students were working out for them. Casting directors were eating up the specific changes he was making to his students’ auditions. He should be so, so proud. But he wasn’t. Their successes added perfect fuel to the fire of his own failure. It proved to him that he was always meant to a teacher to the Prima Donna, and never the actual star himself.

“Good for you.” Leo replied, a knee jerk reaction to being told by student that they got a call back. He was, however, glad that the student waited till class was over to tell him. But this also gave him the itch to walk home as soon as possible. “You know where to find me if you want more help. Now if you’ll excuse me, my wife’s waiting.” He huffed, slinging his messenger style bag over his shoulder and turning to leave the room. He flounced through the courtyard, not paying mind to anyone around him, as jealousy began to blind him. His jaw was flexing beneath his beard and his nostrils began to flare as he could feel the poignant flare of rage begin to rise within him. His hands were tightening around the brown leather and he continued his trek.

With his emotions on high alert, he began to have a sense of paranoia. Was someone following him? He was not in the mood for whatever New York weirdness that was falling into his lap. Especially not in this mood. Not when he felt like he needed a drink or a punching bag. But if he turned around, he could possibly have the latter. Leo immediately stopped walking, and turned to meet whoever was matching his step pattern behind him. His eyes were dark as he met brown eyes kinder than his own will ever be. This took him back. His own surprise was being mirrored by the other’s face. Leo’s forehead pushed together as tried to hear the man through his own shock. “W-wha-what? Wait, kid, slow down.” Leo’s hand waved in the space between them, as he blinked to process all that he had said.

“Well, you were right to start off with flattery.” He quipped, feeling his previous anger begin to be taken over by intrigue. The tension in his body language was visibly leaving. “You could have just called instead of following me.” He couldn’t help but scold the kid a little about that. “Now why do you believe I need some persuading to teach you...?” He questioned, because that really caught his attention.

Closed Starter For: @blakemadden Where: At Blake’s Apartment  when: Around Six In The Evening

Leo knew he had to keep last night a secret. He didn’t know why or how, it was just so blatantly obvious to him that he couldn’t tell a soul about what he had done. It was another tally mark to list of things he should feel shameful about. But the thing is, Leo felt like last night was the right thing to do. Every moment of it was perfectly placed. But now as he stood in the apartment of his baby mama while still donning his wedding ring, with his mind completely wrapped around Ren’s body... maybe there was some guilt he should immit. But he couldn’t find any, not while Blake was happy with Beau which was still much to Leo’s dismay. He didn’t like that his daughter had another man in her life that wasn’t him, but there wasn’t anything he could do. Realizing that he had been staring at the same spot on the ground this whole time, he decided to perk up with a question, “So have you had sex yet?” He blurted out.
