This Is Sort Of Going Off My Recent Artwork But I Really Wanted To Take A Moment To Talk About Jay's

This is sort of going off my recent artwork but I really wanted to take a moment to talk about Jay's adaptability. Specifically weapons. With the other ninjas, they seem to stick to one thing. Kai seems to always stick to a sword, Zane a long distance weapon, Cole an impact-based weapon, and Nya a spear-type weapon. (Lloyd still has the same sword he's had since season 11.) And while Jay does stick to chained weapons, he shows a lot of comfort with continously changing weapons in situations of need.

Personally, I think it's to make up for his element. Lightning is an incredibly powerful element that is likely very difficult to control. He probably doesn't WANT to use it much outside of his usual shocks and power outages. Unlike Lloyd, he doesnt need that much power because he's usually not fighting The Big Bad.

So he makes up for it with variety. With hand to hand combat, agility, speed, adaptability of weapons.

I mean, just look at all of them.

(And dont get me STARTED on how insane it is that he reguarly uses kusarigamas. That's RIDICULOUSLY DIFFICULT TO MASTER. I think this guy needs a ton of respect just for using chained weapons.)

But the coolest thing, to me at least, is that it looks like he specifically trained in the other ninjas weapons. (Maybe the others did too? But i dont really see it as much with them.)

This scene in crystallized is what got me.

Cole literally just threw his weapon to Jay, trusting him to know how to use it. And Jay kicks butt.

I wonder if a little 15 yo Jay trained in the training yard for hours, frustratedly hacking at something with a katana, then training with a hammer, switching to a spear, then to a bostaff, then to sai, and just keeps going and going until he's comfortable with all of them. He cant be the weak man on the team. If his power isnt going to cut it, then he needs to master weapons. Master combat. He wont be the weak link. He refuses to.

Anyways we all seem to collectively forget that Jay is the one who taught Lloyd, arguably, the most important lesson he’s learned for his power. So. The brothers ever.

“Something in Common.”

Some more exploration on Stevens recovery. I always thought Steven could have used more friends his age, and Peedee was always such a high contender in my opinion. He really stuck with me after Frybo aired. His more extreme character traits being cynicism and prone to hysterics is such a good foil for optimistic Steven, although those may or may not have mellowed out by SUF. I noticed a little something about the Fry family, and thought it would be fun to give Peedee some backstory that Steven could empathize with.

In SU classic, there were a few scenes that implied Steven and Peedee still hung out, but like, off screen, and he was always really busy with work. They probably only grew more distant once Little Homeschool kicked up, so I wanted to circle back and have them catch up– something Steven would have absolutely done during his recovery.

Jay Ninjago peers in from a doorway in casual wear - a tshirt, baggy trousers, and sandals. A question mark shows his curiosity at what's occurring.

A digitally illustrated 3 panel comic page with neat sketches but no colour. The first panel shows Sora hovering over an observation drone she has been trying to make which currently has a panel open to expose its wiring and appears to be smoking. The second panel shows Jay with an expression of realisation and exclaiming 'oh' to emphasise this. The third panel shows him having come forth into the room and now tinkering with the broken drone, a smile on his face. Sora watches with a stunned expression as Jay rambles about the fixes he is making to the drone.

A two panel comic page. The first panel shows the back of Jay's head as he has turned to addressed Sora who still appears stunned. Jay is apologising for tinkering without asking first, with a cartoonish drop of sweat signalling his embarrassment. The drone, meanwhile, is now flying on the right side of the panel.
The second panel has a cartoonish Sora clenching her fists with a determined expression while stating her admiration for Jay's quick recognition and solving of a problem that she had been working on for hours. At the end of it she asks him to teach her.

A three panel comic page. The first panel shows Jay with a hand to his chest, nervously looking to the side. He is saying "Me? Teach you? I still don't remember anything. It just came to me, really." with a nervous smile.
The second panel shows Sora with her hands folded and with an expression of 'puppy-dog eyes'. Speech bubbles from Jay show his hesitance and then relenting, as he says that he guesses he can give it a go.
The final panel shows Sora joyous from her victory, pointing fowards with her armoured arm behind her, yelling "Let's see what else 'just comes' to you!" as Jay stands smiling with his arms crossed, thinking "I'm going to regret this, aren't I?".

id love to see an amnesiac jay casually interacting with the ninja. i feel like itd be awkward with the older ninja who have expectations of who he should be, but hed get along great with the new gen :]
