Since The Time I Was In Elementary School I Wanted To Become A Marine Biologist To Study And Swim With

Since the time I was in elementary school I wanted to become a marine biologist to study and swim with sharks.  Next summer I’m planning a trip to Australia and for my 40th birthday, *this* is what I plan on doing....  Check out the video here.  #dreamvacation

Great Whites circling the “ghost cage” video.  This was pretty amazing and would totally love to do this, but with a door that stayed closed!

Star Wars, Kidneys, and PT

I just signed up for the Star Wars Virtual Half Marathon and created a campaign to raise money for the American Kidney Fund :)

image

Dialysis saved my life.  Help me raise some money to help the AKF make a difference to others in need.

I experienced Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) when I was in the hospital this past fall.  I had double pneumonia and sepsis.  I was kept sedated and placed on an ECMO machine while receiving dialysis.  I spent 6 weeks in the hospital.  I am very fortunate that I've regained kidney function and no longer need dialysis.

image

Right now, if your kidneys fail you the only options are dialysis or transplant.  Dialysis is very expensive and the current waitlist for a transplant is about 7 years.

During the rest of February and the month of March, I will combine the miles I do with my love of Star Wars and a campaign to help support others still on dialysis.

I’ll be sharing updates on my progress here and on Flickr & IG...

If you’d like to contribute to my campaign, please visit my AKF page.  Thanks!!

The World Wide Web, AR, VR, and MR

“Technologies like Magic Leap’s will enable us to generate, transmit, quantify, refine, personalize, magnify, discover, share, reshare, and overshare experiences. This shift from the creation, transmission, and consumption of information to the creation, transmission, and consumption of experience defines this new platform. As Magic Leap founder Rony Abovitz puts it, “Ours is a journey of inner space. We are building the internet of presence and experience.”

We haven’t yet fully absorbed the enormous benefit that the internet of information has brought to the world. And yet we are about to recapitulate this accomplishment with the advent of synthetic realities."

The Untold Story of Magic leap, the World’s Most Secretive Startup by Kevin Kelly via Wired. This is a looooong article, but a must read.

On a side note, Kevin Kelly (founding editor of Wired) is one of my favorite futurists.... check out some of his other stuff:

One more must read from today’s surfing (much, much shorter!) is a piece from the NYT:  The Web’s Creator Looks to Reinvent It.

Keep a list...

Week 10: Experts in authoritarianism advise to keep a list of things subtly changing around you, so you’ll remember.

Amy Siskind posts her list each week on Fb and shares it on Medium.  She is the Co-founder of The New Agenda, organization “dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls by bringing about systemic change in the media, at the workplace, at school and at home.”

If you’re not keeping your own list-- this is one of the best I’ve seen online that you can follow.   Want to catch up on the other weeks?  Amy has them all listed at the bottom of her post.
