Room for more(Chapter 9)

In the morning they slept in a little later than usual, the conversation and actual processing of the fact that they might have a baby.

Kai and Nya were in the living room when the two adults finally came down to make breakfast, both still in pajamas and watching Tv.

They didn’t give them a glance, eyes fixated on the screen with something akin to worry and fear on their faces.

Cole joins them on the couch-a question about what they were watching halfway out before his eyes widened. “Hey Zane-Pixels on the news.”

Quickly joining his husband on the couch Zane grabs Nya by her waist to seat her on his lap, once his eyes locked with the Tv he understood why Pixel wanted him to watch the news in the morning.

“Hey why don't you both go to the kitchen and we’ll be there soon ok?” Cole brings the kids attention to him and guides them out of the living room leaving Zane with the news.

The headline was staring at him with it’s bold lettering; ‘Brothers found dead in home-baby with CPS-mother not found’ It showed a picture of the family, two slightly older people holding what looks to be an almost nine month baby dressed in a green onesie.

“I gave them some cereal-we gotta tell them soon and call Pixel.” Cole came back with two mugs of coffee. “I mean-it’s probably a coincidence that she's on the news right?”

Zane said nothing as he wordlessly took the cup he was offered, eyes fixated on the tv. The news story continued, talking about how the two brothers were found around 1 am and the baby shortly after-called CPS and placed the baby with the agent(who called them two hours later but the news didn’t know that).

“You good? Because I could go with the kids or get you some toast.” Cole sat next to his husband-barely looking at the tv as it continued it’s story about a supposed break in gone wrong, it said nothing about the mom who no one can find.

“If it helps I could call Pixel and get things set up for a nursery, give you a break.” He made a move to get up but the sign from Zane made him stop.

“I’ll call Pixel and you can order the stuff.” Zane stands up and takes a large sip of his coffee and rests his head on the other man's shoulder. “Just processing things my love.”

Cole just carded his free hand through Zane’s hair before the two finally moved into the kitchen where the kids were trying not to eavesdrop but failing horribly.

They didn’t make eye contact with the adults but the lack of contact told them all they needed to know.

Heaving a sigh the two sat across the 10 and 6 year old who now looked at them with guilt.

“So, we need to talk.”

~*Later*~

Explaining to kids that a baby was coming soon was an interesting thing. Like the five stages of grief but faster and weird coming from two children. For one thing, they didn’t enjoy the fact of a new little brother. (Nya didn’t like it and because she didn’t like it Kai despised it) Then came the bad thoughts, with all things considered that was expected but the two were quick to relieve those thoughts of “replacement”.

While that had been nearly two hours ago, now they were at the store getting things for the nursery and such. Granted when you take a 10 year old shopping after what he believes to be devastating news things are going to be difficult.

As Zane walked the isles with a list of items they would need for a nursery, a store attendant came up to him, a pleasant but somewhat fake smile on her face. “Is there anything I can help you with sir?”

Zane gave her a weak smile, “Yes, i’m sorry it’s just i have no idea with baby things.” he explained pointing helplessly at his list then to the shelf of products.

The store attendant nodded before pointing out a box to him, “Well you’ll need diapers and bottles if you plan on breastfeeding or not.” She shrugged, “The ages are on the box so if you don’t know which one to get it says so.”

Zane nodded before reaching down for a box of diapers and a packet of bottles. “Thank you, do you have a child?”

The store attendant shook her head, “Nah, i’ve just been at this a long time.” Before turning her heel and walking away.

After that things went...smoothly? Seeing as Kai sulked(which in turn put Nya in a bad mood) for a majority of the trip, it wasn’t until later at lunch where it blew up. They went to Skylors place for food and as they started to talk with Skylor all hell broke loose.

After giving them their meals Skylor stuck around to talk, the conversation was mostly about the new baby, Kai who had kept his mouth shut throughout everything and finally let loose.

“Stop talking about the stupid baby!” He yelled, stopping the table’s conversation.

Zane and Cole looked at each other concerned, before giving Kai the same look. “Kai, where did this come from?” Zane asks, leaning forward.

“I’m just sick of all the baby talk! Why do we have to talk about it?” He exclaimed angrily and shoved his bowl away.

The table was silent, unsure what to do. It stayed like that for the rest of the meal and car ride home.

When they got home Kai stomped upstairs to his room immediately.

“I-should we? Or do you-I don’t know?” Cole whispered to Zane, he was at a loss for what to do, Kai hasn’t done something like this before.

“I’ll talk to him, Nya help Cole with the nursery please?” Zane kneeled down to Nya’s height and handed her a small bag with baby things in it.

Nya nodded and took the bag from Zane and moved to hold Cole's hand. “Are you sure? You were so excited to do the room.”

Zane nodded and smiled, “You and Nya start it, I don’t mind.” He stood up, going to the kitchen as the two went upstairs. He took a moment, mind racing. Kai was upset, clearly about the new member that would join them very soon.

Sighing Zane grabbed some fruit snacks he knew the kids loved and went upstairs to Kai’s bedroom. The little boy was sitting on his bed, stuffed dog in his lap, playing with it. He looked up when Zane gently pushed open the door.

“I’m sorry that i yelled at you and Cole at the restaurant.” Kai mumbled, looking down.

Zane sighed and sat next to the boy, “I’m not upset about that, you just got tired of all the baby talk. I was like that when I was younger.”

Kai looked up again, “You did?”

Zane nodded with a small grin, “Yeah, when i was much younger. My baby brother was almost born and I wasn't excited as everyone else was, but I never told my parents.”

Kai frowned, “Why?”

“They we’re always busy and didn’t always have time for me.” Zane explained, “But when my brother was born it changed. They had time for things, and I gained a friend.”

“Like what Nya and me have?” Kai asked with wide eyes.

Zane sighed, “Not really, but what you and Nya have is special. And maybe you both can have something like that with the new baby?”

Kai frowned and shifted away, “I don’t want a new baby here! I like what's happening now!” He pouted.

Zane frowned, “I know you do, but this baby needs a home. I understand if you don’t like it.”

Kai was silent for a moment, eyes downward. “They need a home?” He asks.

Zane nodded, “Everyone needs a home, remember?” Zane moved closer to the boy, wrapping an arm around his waist.

The boy was silent, eyes on the carpet. Kai sighed, “Ok, but i don't like it.” he pouted.

Zane smiled, giving the boy a sideways hug, “Aw baby, that’s alright. These things take time, but that's ok.”

They stayed like that for a short while, Kai enjoying his snack and Zane that they talked about this. Cole came into the room, a hesitant smile on his face. “Hey, Nya and I are almost done with the room, wanna check it out?”

Zane smiled and nodded before turning to Kai, “Wanna see the nursery? You can help with the finishing touches?”

The boy gave a small smile, “Ok.”

The nursery was a very light shade of green, a half done grey crib was on the floor but stuffed animals were on the small alcove the room had. Nya was sitting there, folding the baby blankets they had gotten but smiled brightly when she saw Zane and Kai.

“It’s perfect, i love it.” Zane sighed, leaning into his husband, watching the two kids talk and Nya showing Kai what she was doing.

“It’s all coming together.” Cole murmured and kissed Zane’s head.

ELEMENTAL HEADCANONS!

ELEMENTAL POWERS:

Elements are actual elements that are crucial to the creation of ninjago. They all work together to create a complex system with its own physics and form the universe. Some elements are physical while others are spiritual.

Physical elements - elements that have physical affect whether they create material, control physics, or change form.

Spiritual elements - elements that create no visible affect

Some things:

Some powers come across literally like Gravity while ones like speed are more obscure, (probably representing the law of motion) but still important for maintaining ninjago.

Elemental powers can manifest differently depending on the generation. (Pale Man is the current master of light but his predecessor was completely visible, probably wielding it like a weapon).

Elemental powers have magical effects that don’t have to behave like they do naturally. (Kai’s fire works in space and Zanes ice defies gravity)

Elemental powers are passed on through a process of genetics or chosen successor, but if no one is chosen it will go to someone “random”

Elements can differ between realms (gravity probably works differently in the cloud kingdom and Djinjago)

Elements can not be destroyed, only transfered or contained

Multiple elemental masters can exists (dragons count!)

Elements also have naturally opposites that keep each other balanced, they usually have opposite energies but not always

Note: this is also prone to change besides the main 6 elements (missing time)

*element of emotion is not canon (but common in the fandom)

*element of amber is an artificial element (100% headcanon, you can ignore that if you want but I will make a whole post on its own explaining it)

ELEMENTAL POWER SCALE:

(I’m going to describe this terribly) All the elements exist on a 3D chart determined by energy levels.

Note: this graph is a beta version and will definitely be prone to updates and changes (missing amber)

High and low energy is very straightforward meaning literally how much energy the elements uses or produces. Positive and negative are not meant literally energy wise but more as moral alignments (like in dnd). The four main elements are at the ends of this chart (which is why they are the main elements) with destruction and creation at furthest corners.

There is really no such thing as having high negative energy or positive low energy for some reason? The elements only exist in a diamond pattern (perhaps reminiscent in a yin-yang symbol?) I don’t know why this is but it seems consistent.

The spiritual plane runs perpendicular to the physical plane. There really is no organization besides mind and emotion being the forces that make up sapient life. Time is defined as the 4th dimension so it goes into spiritual organization as well.

ELEMENTAL ABILITIES:

all elemental masters have the same basic ability’s that make them just slightly different from normal humans like...

Elemental Resilience - They are tougher then normal, and less likely to become injured. Bones are harder to break, skin is tougher to cut, muscles are stronger. Low energy elements have higher resilience then high energy elements. (Earth -> Lightning)

Elemental Healing - Elemental masters heal faster then normal. Low energy can heal most injuries within 1-3 days. High energy can take a few hours to a day. Bruises and small cuts will heal the fastest while sprains and broken bones will take longer. (Lightning -> Earth)

Aka low energy elements can take a hit better but high energy can heal heal faster.
