Don't you think the janaya relationship just like "happened"? I wish they had developed it more, they way they did it seems to me like they didn't care much about it
No?? Janai and Amaya were one anotherâs plotline for the season. We saw the slowbuild of mutual respect stemming from their place as matched adversaries on the battlefield move to actual trust. Their mistrust, meanwhile, of each other fade away in the state of extreme circumstances. Janai trusted Amayaâs panic to completely uncuff her and get her armour back on, in addition to Amaya realizing that everyone, including the other Sunfire elves, would be in grave danger if Viren was there, and that him being there could only mean trouble.Â
They admire one anotherâs prowess and have been through similar losses (a sister) that Janai also experienced by Amayaâs side, and then Janai agreed to help Amayaâs family and friends defend the Dragon Queen with what was left of her forces. They saved each otherâs lives (Amaya helping Janai up and Janai supporting Amaya through the Light ceremony) too.Â
By the end of the season, itâs clear they find one another attractive and are just beginning a stronger friendship / a romantic relationship. S3 also takes place over longer than the previous two seasons judging by the shape of the moon, so it was 2+ weeks instead of just one.
I also think the idea of âthey didnât care about itâ is also a contradictory one, because if they didnât care it wouldnât be there. Amaya and Janai are a healthy, engaging romantic relationship between two queer women of colour, one of whom is also disabled and a loving aunt to two of our main protagonists. That in and of itself is revolutionary. Itâs also less than halfway through the series, rather than in the last season or even last episode, so weâll get to see them be a couple in the future, too.Â
Theyâre fun with a good emotional centre and I felt like they were developed enough. Thatâs always just my subjective opinion (although I would like to write meta about their development someday) but youâll hear no complaints from me :)
i think another big thing that makes Trollhuntersâ ending have such an impactâŚ. is that they werenât afraid to show the naked hate in Jim. he hates Gunmar. Gunmar is essentially the biggest reason his life is like it is. Jim is barely over sixteen and heâs been at war for months now, against this troll and his army, whoâs efforts to conquer the earth have driven fate to choose Jim of all people to stop the apocalypse. some normal kid that never asked for any of this, but took the mantle when called upon anyways.
and heâs paid dearly for it every step of the way.
Jimâs life has been completely ruined by Morgana through Gunmar, and by this point heâs embracing the anger and hatred that inspires in him. his act of killing Gunmar isnât just the heroâs duty, but a vindictive revenge for every ounce of pain and trauma that troll inflicted on him, and for every other life Gunmar ruined alongside Jimâs.
i honestly have a difficult time recalling any shows geared towards younger/general audiences that have given us visible and canon evidence of feelings like that. what a phenomenal performance on the animators and writersâ part.
Yo, can we talk about this anime âHoshiai no Soraâ AKA âStars Alignâ thatâs airing this season? Trans rights!
Seriously, this show has been amazing so far with itâs varied, interesting characters, realistic portrayals of abuse and trauma, while maintaining a very fun and lighthearted tone. But this whole sequence in episode 8 just completely blew my mind.
Iâve never seen anime talk about LGBTQIA+ issues this openly and respectfully. Iâm used to queer people just being a big punchline. I was not expecting it to be addressed this directly, and for all the main characters to be so completely supportive and wonderful about it. Especially not in what was advertised to me as a lighthearted tennis anime.
i made a text post, the fic

Alan Ituriel, the creator of Villainous, went to a conference in Colombia today! He talked about animation, Villainous, its evolution and he gave tips about how to start your business in the animation industry, as well as an amazing motivational speech. Heâs a wonderful person and a sweetheart, I swear. He also thanked the fans a lot for liking Villainous, and even showed some fan creations and cosplays, and talked about how he never expected his show to be successful outside of latam.
He talked about the importance of making your characters alive, allowing the audience to connect with them and feel their emotions and relate to them, and also about making the audience feel like theyâre in the same world as the characters. He does this with Penumbraâs instagram and the secret websites, making us feel like theyâre all real. Imo, this is what makes this show so amazing. Alan really knows how to make his characters and story likeable and attractive. He puts the story as the most important thing in a show, above animation, and I really appreciate this. It shows that Villainous has a very promising future. Heâs tried to show us the very extensive lore through numerous ways, even in the 1 minute shorts. He said that all of the backgrounds are supervised by him, and everything on them is put there on purpose, to tell us the story in a different way other than yknow, the characters speaking.
He also talks about the importance of the voice actors. âJefecito chuloâ, aka Flugâs most iconic nickname for Black Hat, was not in the script. Flugâs most peculiar characteristics are not in the script, itâs all his VA. Thatâs how important they are. They give an extra layer of attributes to the character.
The last photo shows how much the project has changed over the years, as well as the others showing how the characters evolved. He animated both of those scenes. He linked this speech with the motivational one, telling how being good at something is about practice and practice, and to never let anyone drag you down, because even your closest friends can turn on you. You must be strong. You are the only one that matters in the end. âIf I could do it, you can.â âEven if everyone dislikes what youâre doing, keep going forward and show it, because someone out there has to like it. Even if itâs just one person.â He is entirely self-taught. His family has no animators, or people in the TV industry. He did it all on his own, with perseverance and hard work.
His story is very inspiring, I have MAD respect for him and his show, and Iâll support him til the very end.
Hereâs the conference on youtube! Alan starts talking at the minute 42:50

There are so many ways to make moodboards, bookcovers, and icons without infringing copyright! As artists, authors, and other creatives, we need to be especially careful not to use someone elseâs work and pass it off as our own.Â

So letâs appreciate the absolutely Legendary⢠use of Color Symbolism in Netflixâs Carmen Sandiego:
V.I.L.Eâs Iconic Color is greenâ all the villains wear green, the lair is green, the uniforms are green, etc.Â
When Carmen rebels against them, she obviously starts wearing her iconic redâ which is greenâs complement, its âoppositeâ on the color wheel. This shows that Carmen has become the âoppositeâ of V.I.L.E.Â
Scenes where V.I.L.E has a lot of power/influence are often tinted green, scenes where Carmen has power/influence will often be tinted red.
VILE in San Francisco:
Carmen in San Francisco:
Julia Argent, the ACME agent who believes Carmen is a good person, wears a bright red shirt that the other agents do not wear.
This ties into the seriesâ theme of âdonât be fooled by initial appearances.â Green is the color we usually associate with goodness, while red is the color we usually associate with danger/villains. But in this show, the colorsâ meanings are flipped.
And again, this isnât just in the costumes!! Â
Contrast these scenes where Carmen is nervous on V.I.L.E island:
And canât relax Because V.I.L.E:
With this scene where Carmen feels confident and free:
The dialogue in the âCarmen finally relaxesâ scene is cute too:
Player: Red? Carmen: Yes, it is. I may finally be unwinding.
Because scenes where Carmen is at peace, or confident and in power, tend to be tinted red (or pink/reddish-violet.)
Scenes where Carmen and co. are frightened, losing, trapped, or in terrible danger will be tinted green.
If a fight scene in this show is red, things will probably go well for Carmen. But if the fight scene is green, things will probably go badly.
The battle Carmen loses against Paperstar:
The one that she wins:
The Indonesia episode is very green, because the Stakes Are High and Carmen seems to be losing:
but after Carmen wins RED FIREWORKS GO OFF, lighting everything red:
Also: Tigress was an idiot for choosing to battle Carmen on the Golden Gate Bridge, bc itâs the reddest place in San Francisco, meaning that itâs where Carmenâs POWER IS GREATEST
Tigress shoulda gone to New York and battled her on the Statue of Liberty instead, thatâs a guaranteed victory right there
And in Carmenâs worst failure in the season, her red coat is even torn off, so that the shot is completely green:
But then she escapes and look whoâs back?? RED
ANOTHER ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOMENTS:
Before Carmen steals the VILE data thing, everything is green:
But the moment she successfully steals it, RED ALARMS START GOING OFF:
Like âheck yeah La Femme Rouge is finally here!!!!â
And (major spoilers ahead!) what I find most interesting is this Red⢠scene:
The scene where Carmen fails her pickpocketing test, ruining her chances of becoming a V.I.L.E operative.Â
When you watch it for the first time you see it as a failure. The blood-red sky is there to show us that Carmen is in serious danger, and her life is about to be ruined.
But when you rEWATCH THE SHOW WHILE PAYING CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE COLOR SYMBOLISM (as ya do) you realize itâs the opposite. This is the moment that saves Carmenâ that sets her on the path to becoming âThe Red Rogue.âÂ
And I might do another post on this but likeâ itâs so cool how red is used in Shadowsanâs scenes in general!!! Most V.I.L.E peopleâs scenes are all green, but Shadowsanâs scenes are often red, to hint that heâs secretly sympathetic to Carmen.
See you initially think heâs grabbing the sword to kill Carmen, but when you rewatch it, you realize heâs going to sabotage the VILEâs helicopter and rescue her! He was on her side all along, and the Color Symbolism knew it!
As Carmen says in âThe Sticky Rice Caper:â
âGreen badâŚâŚred good.â
