Acanalonia conica is a charming leaf-mimicking planthopper that’s very common where I live. during the day its eyes are white with brown lines, but at night or in the dark they change to a deep red.
presumably this aids in night vision, since many groups of insects like mantises, katydids, and plant bugs show a similar change in eye color between day and night
