Just to let everyone know, despite my best efforts and the advice or a local hedgehog rescue expect

Yesterday evening Wee Thorins health took a dive that she was unable to recover from. This morning at approximately 6:30 she passed away in her sleep on a warm hot water bottle with a full belly, by my side. She passed very peacefully.

I’m sorry I couldn’t have done more for her. The cold has come hard and fast this year and late born babies like her don’t seem to have much of a chance

I’m am holding her little body on my hand as I write this, giving her lots of pets before I prepare to bury her.

This is a sad day. But I hope she has gone to a place full of meal worms and warm hiding spots.

The shire is warm for most of ther year and when it’s cold is doesn’t drop far below seven degrees

Erebor is fucking cold. Temps drop to around minus fifteen.

Bilbo is not build for these conditions and nearly gets frost bite in the tips of his ears and his toes and Thorin panics and makes him little fur lined leather boots that are soft and flexible but still provide enough warmth to stop his toes falling off.

Bilbo also has to wear a hat and ties his hair back as it grows so he doesn’t realize how much his hair has grown by spring and when he takes the hat off Thorin is gawking

My wee niece is so cute, she’s only tiny and doesn’t really understand that me and my dad don’t do the same thing (he works with stone I work with metal) I gave her my dragon tail ring to play with and she looked up at me and goes you made this with grandad?” I puffed up a little admittedly when I said “No I made it all by my self” but I showed her my necklace and said “but he made this, it’s got fossils in it see?” And she asked if there was a dragon tooth in it.

(Her favorite thing to talk to me about it dragons now haha)

Fuck I love them. Fuck I’m tired.

Also this reminds me of that story where the stage falls on Thorin and he gets absolutely obliterated and forgets Bilbo but is so instantly in love with him. I don’t know if this is referencing that but I love that trope.

Someone said they liked the idea of Thorin using hand gestures and not talking much when he doesn’t have to (think somewhat selectively mute, maybe using Iglishmêk) and Bilbo yapper who fills every pause with his thoughts.

Bilbo: -and then he said ‘we can’t plant roses on the terraces, they’ll freeze’ can you believe that? We had the last winter snow six weeks ago- dear, where are the measuring spoons

Thorin: *doesn’t look up from his mountain of shitty paperwork, gestures vaguely in the direction of the a drawer that he put them in*

Bilbo: *rifling through the drawer* what do you think though? About the roses? Surely we can’t be expecting anymore snow? The-

Thorin: *without looking up* There’s not enough sun on the terrace you’re thinking of…

Bilbo: but-!

Thorin: plant them at the gates..

I watched the first two hobbit movies with my partner but I can’t bring myself to watch the last… in his mind.. everyone is still alive.. and I just can’t… I’m too weak
