I feel like this should probably be considered.
(this being like. the actual writer of Ashes of the Academy.) Absolutely you can criticize Bryke and their handling of Azula's arc in ATLA all you want, but the parasocial "the writers have it out for us specifically" is a little bit over the top.
While I still understand the frustration with Azula's (lack of) arc and handling, I think that acting like everything is shade thrown against us and harassing the writer over something like this is not fair. The ATLA fandom has really been treating the writers (especially the smaller ones, because they are more reachable than Bryke) like shit lately, and it sounds kind of similar to the author of Penquan Island getting harassed because she didn't center Korrasami. I think it is important to consider the perspective of the different characters the writer is, well, writing, and stop acting like that makes someone irredeemable.
TIL that zuko canonically took mai out on a romantic date to a picnic on the burial site of his ancestors and i think that’s honestly the most on brand thing ever
im crying i need more of this
[barges into ur inbox looking harried with blood on my face] i’m dying and the only way to save me is by talking about ur self indulgent zuko time travel bs
[i cradle you gently in my arms] no... stay with me.... [places this into your chest]
i think the dynamics would be so funny between these 3 in particular with 16 y/o zuko being pitiful and emo, 19 y/o or post-comic zuko being more silly and getting into his groove and looking up to his older self a Lot, and 28 y/o zuko acting all cool and stoic to try and impress his younger selves when in reality he tripped over his robes the other day and fell into the turtleduck pond
I've been reading novels lately and have just started to get to know this couple, and I was thinking about one thing: why are they so attractive !!!!!
I'm technically immature so I'm stuck with this one for now, hope you don't mind

found a wip from a year ago ill definitely never be touching again
To the non-maikos it’s always: mai and zuko boring. mai and zuko no passion. maiko only based on logistics. people only like maiko bc it’s canon.
To me it’s: mai and zuko share a cultural background which helps them empathize with each other. mai and zuko have a deep understanding about how the other was raised. mai and zuko take comfort in each other because of that. mai and zuko fit like puzzle pieces. mai calm and is his peace. zuko passionate and brings out her inner fire. mai and zuko are each others safe spaces. mai and zuko both made mistakes during the war and need to grow from it. mai and zuko have Fire nation roots and therefore have experiences that help them envision a better nation. mai and zuko team.

People really try and say Katara is Izumi’s mom like honey?? That baby looks nothing like Katara??? Someone got Zuko pregnant and I know for a fact it wasn’t Katara
They don't necessarily say Katara is the mom, but they try to go "Oh, Maiko broke up in the comics, so Mai can't possibly be the mom" even though Izumi literally has the same face.
It's a blatant attempt at downplaying the fact that Zuko chose Mai over Katara or whoever they ship him with.
And let me be clear, I don't mind people just using the character of Izumi, or at least the name, in fics and making her the child of Zuko with some other woman, I do that too. The problem is the blatant denial of reality.
She's a Maiko baby. Plain and simple.
