From my experience as a Catholic in my younger years, it greatly depends on your religion or spiritual practice. For example, my household did the "give up something for Lent" and "no meat on Fridays". Grandma Betty who was older and didn't do much extra activities only ate one meal a day, and her cheat days was every other Sunday she would have a small piece of Coffee Cake after our whole family had a two hour prayer session of praying the Rosary and praying to all the saints. This was also the time, she would donate money to her favorite causes and charities, and if she could she donate extra. So, in a way, fasting from technology would count.
what are some substitutions for fasting? My current job/lifestyle doesn't allow for me to just go without meals. Are there alternatives when rituals call for it? Could something like a technology fast be equivalent?
I don't have enough knowledge to provide an answer to this.
I have this one! It's amazing!
If you're looking for additional information on working with the weather as part of your practise, I recommend having a look at Debra L. Burris' 'Weather Magic: Witchery, Science, Lore'
You can read a bit of it for free on Google Books to see if you're interested but it covers how to work with:
Whistling Up a Wind
Ocean Currents
Weather Fronts
Clouds
Rain
Snow / Sleet / Hail
Thunderstorms
Lightning
Tornadoes
Hurricanes / Cyclones
And a whole bunch of exercises and activities to do to build your understanding and confidence in doing weather related witchcraft.
I hate adulting, and I especially hate having to adult even though my IBS is flaring up. But hopefully, I can go for a walk today. Then I need to summon some weather witches, actually all the witches. Certain states have had tornadoes, Oklahoma and Kansas, had fires and dust bowl conditions with how bad the wind has been, and now there is word of snow!
