It is now October.
Therefore, I’m now going to swing wildly between
seasonal depression
and
manic excitement
that it is finally
Spooky Season
Quietly sliding back into my merlin fixation
your condom breaks
you feel a lump on your breast
your friends are ignoring you
you’re stranded on an island
you got rejected by a crush
you get into a car accident
you got stung by a bee/wasp
you got fired from your job
you’re in an earthquake
your tattoo gets infected
your house is on fire
you’re lost in the woods
you get arrested abroad
you get robbed
your partner cheated on you
you’re on a ship that’s sinking
you fall into ice
you’re stuck in an elevator
you hit a deer with your car
you have food poisoning
your pet passed away
you fall off of a horse
you or your friend has alcohol poisoning
you have toxic shock syndrome
your house has a gas leak
Got a bribe from an anon.
I always say that I will never do something like this ever again and I have shot my foot yet again...
My favorite Merthur dynamic, especially in slow-burn fics is, once they’ve had their “oh” moments. Arthur is doing backflips around the fact that he’s in love with a man, let alone his manservant, let alone Merlin. And then there’s Merlin, who takes one look inward and is like “well, this might as well happen,” and then tucks this secret away inside him with the rest of them. Because, well, his life is already Arthur’s, his heart might as well be too.
Meanwhile, Arthur is screaming crying throwing up, and nobody knows why, least of all Merlin, but damn if he’s not going to give figuring it out his best shot. Cue Merlin performing various acts of sorcery on a passed out Arthur to find out why his king can’t get a full sentence out in his presence without getting flustered.
Can Aithusa loaf like a cat? Does she loaf like a cat? Does Kilgharrah? These are important questions
Tired: Merlin has to out his identity so that Arthur can make the magic oppression about himself and/or is inconvenienced by it enough to care.
Wired: Arthur sees that magic is not inherently evil, regardless of any knowledge about Merlin’s identity, and legalizes magic because it’s the right thing to do for his people.
Inspired: Arthur lets Gwen write all of Camelot’s laws.
Today, Merlin walks next to the road along the lakeside.
Every other day, he pauses and looks at the monument. He studies the water, looking for anything out of the ordinary. A sign, a relic, any change at all.
Today, Merlin did not look for Arthur.
He knew that today would be no different than any other. There would be no king waiting for him on the shore. So he took a deep breath, and continued walking.
Today, for the first time in 1500 years, Merlin gave up on his destiny.
But Arthur had not given up on him.
Wilhelm: “Wow. Can’t believe I’m going to burn the entire Swedish monarchy to the ground for this nerdy little choir boy I met six months ago.” Literally everyone else: “You don’t have t-” Wilhelm: “No, I’m gonna.”
