I Fucking Knew It, I SAID It: They're Making ADHD People The Next Culture War Targets. They Will 'just

Bloomberg headline: The fast rise of prescriptions for Adderall and other stimulants suggest the start of another drug crisis like the opioid epidemic, according to the DEA

I fucking knew it, I SAID it: they're making ADHD people the next culture war targets. They will 'just ask questions' until we lose every scrap of ground we've gained in the last decade and more. We may not quite inspire the same level of hatred as a sexual minority, but we can very easily be made to inspire disdain and that also works.

They will strip us of our accomodations and our medications and try to stifle any sense of shared identity, and if that kills some of us, oh well. So long as it fuels another outrage cycle, fine.

So many of the tropes they've been using on trans people work extremely well on ADHD people too! "There are too many of these people suddenly! It must be a fad! It spreads through friend groups! And online! People are going private for diagnoses and that's bad! They are using pOwERfUl medical interventions and we think it's freaky!"

I saw the first ripples of this in terf circles about two years ago. And of course it's spread.

6% of British ADHD people lost their jobs in the last year thanks to the meds shortage. SIX PER CENT! And that just made these ghouls go "ooh, tasty, what else can we do?"

Recently an 'expert' was on the BBC saying people see ADHD diagnosis as a "golden ticket." Laurence Fox has been ranting that the condition doesn't exist and threatening "'you won't poison my child's body [with ADHD meds] against my consent"

People need to be aware this is going to get worse. Maybe, if we're lucky, it won't get really bad. But it's going to get worse than it is now.

A lover of snakes

Submitter comment: I'd like to submit this '[s]tudy of defensive behavior of a venomous snake as a new approach to understand snakebite' not for it's topic (worth studying!) but for it's insane methodology, which... well, I'll just let the researcher speak for himself:

Submitter Comment: I'd Like To Submit This '[s]tudy Of Defensive Behavior Of A Venomous Snake As A New

[Q: Why did you decide to do this experiment?

A: Snake behavior has been generally neglected as a field of research, especially in Brazil. And most studies don’t examine what factors make them want to bite. If you study malaria, you can research the parasite that causes the disease—but if you don’t study the mosquito that carries it, you will never solve the problem. Up until now, the popular wisdom was that the jararaca would only attack if you touched it or stepped on it. But that was not what we found.

Q: Why did you need to be the victim?

A: The best way to do this research is to put snakes and a human together. In this case, the human was me. We put the snakes inside a ring on the floor of our lab until they got used to it, then I stepped in wearing special protective boots. I stepped close to the snake and also lightly on top of it. I didn’t put my whole weight on my foot, so I did not hurt the snakes. I tested 116 animals and stepped 30 times on every animal, totaling 40,480 steps.]

From the recent (aptly named) interview: Researcher steps on deadly vipers 40,000 times to better predict snakebites

I remember reading the scriptures of the Wall-E for the PS3 lore for fun and learnt about the wonders of artistic beauty. This is identical to that moment. You should be very proud you strange, ancient moth robot. I know I would.

#In all seriousness, this is really high quality for a doodle. Look at you, ya doodle master you!

Wall-E for the PS3 has given artistic powers to those he deems worthy. Those powers are harnessed and turned into an entirely different universe. If you have it, and you'll know it, use it wisely.

Although it was traumatic for the security involved, Wall-E did such things not because they was trying to save Eve, but because they were the true arbiter of justice. Only a fool would question them.

thinking about the fucking WALL-E gun level again

Please stop trigger tagging with #epilepsy tw/cw/warning/etc.

I need every single person to understand how horrible tumblr’s tagging system is

I go into the tag for epilepsy and its all flashing lights. We can’t use our own tag because people without epilepsy fill it up with improper warnings.

Use ‘flashing’ in place of ‘epilepsy’ in your tags. You aren’t warning people of epileptics, you’re warning us of flashing lights. Please please tag properly. Epileptics say this endlessly and constantly and it’s ignored. You are risking lives by doing this.

Here’s proof of what I mean:

Please Stop Trigger Tagging With #epilepsy Tw/cw/warning/etc.

THIS POST IS 100% OKAY TO REBLOG, I ENCOURAGE PEOPLE WITHOUT EPILEPSY TO ESPECIALLY DO SO!

Someone somewhere put my feelings on this awesome movie into words. Wall-E is such an amazing movie

Wall-E (the character) is a great demonstration of how being curious about the world echoes our level of care for it. And that caring can quite literally course-correct humanity His playful fascination with what humans left behind, his ability to find "new" on a dormant planet of waste refuse-- he continues to care and be amazed by and change things in a world that has not effectively changed for about 700 years. Wall-E commemorates artifacts of life by treasuring them on their own special shelves in his home. He lovingly makes sure The Plant is secured in a way that won't crush it as he's going home. He accidentally runs over his cockroach and worries about it. He tries to make an inactive Eve comfortable at his expense, not knowing when or if she will ever wake up again.

Wall-E has such an impact on Eve and other passengers on the Axiom because he invites them to care about small interactions they took for granted. They make meaningful connections and changes in their own directive because-- simply by being interested by them and what they're doing-- he offers a new perspective of looking at themselves. (Remember when he gives the elevator robot that little wave and it's so taken with that gesture it starts to copy it? It was seen and acknowledged when its role has always been to punch numbers.)

The spark that Wall-E shared with Eve, I think, is not only symbolic of his love for Eve (though it is clear he loves Eve more than anyone). It was that care. It has to be that same care. Because if his little acts of wonder and determination inspired every other character to break from their programming, who's to say it can't overcome a factory reset?

Oh, and "curiosity" and "care" have the same etymological root, apparently

One of my favorite introductions of a character. The character growth for MO was astounding and made my heart melt how the two started such a lovable bromance.

I remember when I talked to a toad once. It tried to make me stray from the path of light by telling me to invest in a Wall-E themed NFT. Fortunately I remembered that one of the main things Wall-E for the PS3 hates is NFTs. Be careful about which frogs you talk to kids.

A four panel comic. In panel 1, a cute American Toad is sitting on the pebbly ground facing the reader. It says "Hi! I'm an American Toad. I wasn't expecting to meet a human today." In panel 2, it says "Were you looking for some woodland wisdom? Gosh. You're kind of putting me on the spot here." In panel 3, the toad looks thoughtful and says "Let's see: Hop around. Eat a bug." In panel 4, it says "Whew. I nailed it! I hope that helps. Have a good day!"

Wisdom.
