I tried to scroll past this. I really did
November 14, 1956:
Elvis was on vacation in Las Vegas, Nevada, from November 10 to 18, 1956.
From the Long Beach Press Telegram, November 15, 1956:
“Liberace and Elvis Presley, two of the world´s highest paid entertainers, staged an impromptu act for nothing early today after Liberace’s night club appearance.
Presley was in the audience at the Riviera Hotel as the piano-playing television idol went through his performance, and after the last show ended he went back to Liberace´s dressing room.
With only a slight amount of urging from photographers and publicists, Liberace exchanged his gold sequined jacket for Presley´s striped sports coat, and from there it was only a short step to an exchange of musical instruments.
Elvis sat down at the piano, and Liberace picked up a guitar, and in no time at all a rock´n´roll session was under way. It lasted about 30 minutes with some 200 persons jammed around the pair as they performed.
Said one observer: ‘Elvis played a mean piano, but Liberace said he was an amateur on the guitar - and he sounded like one.’
Said Liberace: ‘Elvis and I may be characters - he with his sideburns and me with my gold jackets - but we can afford to be.’”
Pairing | Eddie x reader
Warnings | 18+ only, do not interact if you are underage. Heavy petting, fingering, nothing much else this chapter. Reader is 18+ and has been since before Eddie was interested. Reader is a virgin who has bad previous sexual experiences (not assault). Mentions of bullying and anxiety around this. Under 21s drinking alcohol. Eddie makes a little joke about getting reader high and taking advantage. Expect coming of age vibes the whole way through and as a result there is a fair amount of exposition this chapter. I’m trying to capture the particular way girls hurt each other. Non canon-compliant; the gate closed forever in 1985.

A/N | Some of you hate girly-girl reader, some of you hate not-like-other-girls reader. I am here to unite you against a common enemy; not-like-other-girly-girls reader. I really think I can bridge the gap with this one. I joke, but my point is Eddie Munson is capable of loving literally every person ever put on this planet, who dress all sorts of ways and are interested in all sorts of things. My y/n loves Rilke.
Reposting one more time and if it doesn’t work I’ll just cry.

“Please!” May cries again, clasping her hands together like she’s begging. “I just know bringing something tonight will get me my chance with Liam. And the freak…freaks me out!”
"But I don’t get why that means I should be the one that meets him.”
"You know, I thought you kind of liked Eddie.”
Heather’s smile is innocent, her head tilting like she doesn’t know exactly how much you like Eddie. Like you hadn’t sat and told her every detail of your gooey, warm crush on him that one time she’d snuck a bottle of pink gin to your house.
"Wait, you like the freak?” May asks, her face a picture of confusion. You twist your hands in your skirt when she makes a noise of disgust. “Oh my god!” She says your name incredulously. “That is so gross!”
Your mouth opens, then closes with a bite to your lip. You want to defend yourself, defend Eddie, but find yourself toeing the ground with your shoe instead.
“If I’d known you might enjoy a little rendezvous with Eddie Munson in the woods, I’d have begged a little less,” May says, voice all amusement until she catches your hurt look and sighs. “Look, please just get the weed from him for me? You don’t even have to talk to him, but he really does scare me. Heather’s meeting Patrick, otherwise I would totally ask her.”
Another version of you, one that knew how to get into conflict and come out on top, would tell her that’s not true. Would list every time, at least every time you remember, that you’d done something like this for your friends. Risking trouble, going out of your way.
You take the $20 she has ready and tuck it into your purse.
“Hey,” May says, tone all innocent mocking. “Maybe you should try flirting with Munson. You might be able to get me a discount.”

Eddie x Fem reader.
Summary: After an argument, you’re determined to prove Eddie is wrong about you. You decided you’re going to Jason Carver’s party alone. Eddie is set on finding you, worried what kind of situation you might find yourself in. He quickly realizes how right he was to worry and convinces you to leave with him. (Mentions of drinking and potentially violent situations.)
Shit! Shit! Shit! Eddie forcefully smacked his hand against the steering wheel. How the fuck am I supposed to find her? Roll down the windows and call her name like goddamn Lassy? Eddie’s van tore down the pavement, Dio at top volume as he wracked his brain on where you might be. She wouldn’t really be at Jason’s would she? The two of you made fun of Jason all the time. In fact, Eddie loved to climb onto tables, giving his best impression and interpretations of Jason’s speeches. Your favorite being his ‘where is the clitoris?’ speech. He’d mimic the hand gestures and all, his shaggy hair shaking wildly. ‘WE CAN FIND IT! If it exists. EITHER WAY WE’RE NOT GIVING UP!’ He literally had you laughing so hard you were in tears. That was a proud moment for Eddie. No way she’d go….but if she wanted to get back at me she would.
Given all the popular hangout spots were closed for the night, Jason’s house was the best lead. Problem was, Eddie had no idea where Jason lived. He was perfectly happy with that guy taking up as little space in his brain as possible. He wasn’t sure if it was his disdain for him and his basketball buddies or Holy Diver rattling the interior of the van, but he was now a man on a mission. He gripped the steering wheel tighter and laid on the gas. He’d drive all over Hawkins if he had to. Has she even drank before? Ugh, she’s probably a light weight too. He was certain if he didn’t find you soon enough, you’d be throwing your guts up in a bush somewhere. Which to Eddie, seemed like more fun than studying for biology. But it wasn’t something he wanted for you.
He found himself somewhere he wasn’t too familiar with. White two story houses with paved driveways and well maintained lawns. It’s gotta be around here. He cut the music and began scanning the area. It didn’t take too long to find. He came upon a modestly immaculate home. Through the trees he could see plastic cups littering the yard and teens smoking in the driveway. The thump of music could be heard coming from inside the house. Yep, this is definitely it. Eddie switched off the engine and began making his way to the house. He assumed there would be a few people there less than happy to see him. He just prayed you weren’t one of them.
The closer he got to the house, the more familiar the faces in the driveway became. Clients. One was a regular, Tate. Tate was a stand-up guy. Very punctual and genuinely pleasant during their transactions. Eddie was a little shocked to see him there. As he looked around, he noticed the crowd wasn’t entirely what he expected. He imagined testosterone filled, wannabe frat-boys everywhere. This seemed way less hostile. Band geeks, science nerds. And now, Eddie the Freak.
“EDDIE? NO WAY! You’re here?! NOW it’s a party!” Tate exclaimed, the light from the house driving the shadows away from Eddie’s clean, shaven face. His brown eyes darted from one group to another. He could feel their heads turning in his direction. It was so nice of Tate to alert everyone of his arrival, but he would’ve much preferred to be in and out without notice.
Eddie took a slight bow. “Don’t get too excited. I’m off the clock. No goody bags.”
“…Well that sucks. BUT it’s still gooda see you, man.” Tate swayed as he slurred. Sweet kid. Eddie was glad he was having a good time.
“Hey, you know y/n, right? Is she uh- is she here?” He questioned Tate hopefully.
“Oh yea, shesin the house. But if you’re looking to spend some quality time with her, you’re prolly gonna have to wait in line. Andy has been barking up that tree aaall night.”
That son of a bitch. Eddie patted Tate on the back as if to thank him for his service before storming towards the door. He just knew that basketball prick was up to something. The closer he got, the harder his heart pounded. Through the door, he encountered a sea of people. Some happily surprised to see him. Others snickering and undoubtedly whispering to their friends about him or cracking jokes. Not that he cared. He was only there for you. He began pushing and weaving through the hoards trying to find you. He tried to call your name but it was instantly lost in the pulsating music and endless chatter.
“Watch where the hell you’re going!” An all too friendly party-goer sounded as he was accidentally nudged. Eddie offered up his hands to show no offense. This was impossible! The house was sizable to say the least and there were too many people. He struggled to think of where to start. If I were a drunk girl at a party…where would I be? Eddie pondered this for a second, someone’s elbow digging into his side as he squeezed through. Kitchen. Always the kitchen. He could see the white glow of light reflecting off tile and into the hall from where he was standing. Not much further.
————
“Let me pour you another.” Andy was way too close to you for Eddie’s comfort. From the doorway he could see the two of you.
“A-another? I feel like I’ve had a lot. Things are getting a little spinny.” An involuntary chuckle escaped your lips. At first you liked the way the alcohol made you feel. Your muscles loosened. Your body felt warm. So warm in fact, Andy took the liberty of helping you out of your jacket. But after about the third or fourth drink, things started feeling too surreal. Almost dreamy. You felt the cold envelope you hands as Andy filled your cup once more. You weren’t entirely sure what you had been drinking, but it was sweet, pink and citrusy.
“Why do I never see you at any of the games?” Andy brushed a piece of hair behind your ear before letting his hand rest on your upper arm. His palm run up to your shoulder and slyly, he slid a finger under the strap of your dress. If you had your wits about you, you probably would’ve slapped him or at least told him off. But you weren’t even sure if what was happening was real. How could it be? Andy coming onto you at Jason’s Carver’s house. That was some alternate reality shit. You shyly tried to pull your shoulder to your ear to break the contact, but lost your balance as your head swiveled. “Whoa, careful.” Andy laughed, moving his hands to your hips to steady you. He kept them there. It didn’t feel right, but your inebriated brain lacked the coherency to understand why or protest it.
You were visibly drunk. Your cheeks flushed pink and head heavy. Eddie knew with one look. Your body language was entirely different than your usual. Even so, he could see your discomfort towards Andy’s advances. His blood boiled under his skin as he watched him put his hands on you. He didn’t look half as drunk as you were. How fucking dare he think he can take advantage. No way that was happening. Eddie unapologetically shoved through the remainder of the crowd to get to you.
“Eddie?” You were so confused. You weren’t sure if it was really him or some girl with a similar haircut. It took a second for your vision to settle. Wait- Nope, definitely Eddie. “Wh-why are you-“
“Get your fucking hands off her, man.” His voice was low and gravely. Quick and biting. In one forceful motion, he grabbed The arm of Andy’s letterman jacket and ripped his hand off your waist. His sweaty palm leaving a wrinkle on your delicate dress.
“You got a problem, Freak?” Andy stiffened his posture. He turned away from you, giving Eddie his full attention. “Is this your girl?”
As quick as the flick of a lighter, Eddie’s eyes shot to you. There was something there, but you couldn’t read him in your state. “N-No, she-“
“Then I suggest you back off, Freak.” He punctuated the sentence with a shove to Eddie’s leather clad shoulder. But Eddie didn’t flinch. He barely budged. His eyes grew wild and dark. You’d never seen him like this. His nostrils flared and jaw clenched. Andy stepped closer and puffed his chest as if trying to instigate a reaction. You looked down and saw Eddie’s ringed hand curling into a tight fist. He was volatile. You felt like he could take him honestly, but one swing and Eddie would be jumped. Andy would definitely have backup nearby. You weakly placed your hand over his fist.
“Eddie, don’t.”
“Get your jacket. I’m taking you home.” You didn’t protest. He continued staring daggers into Andy, refusing to break eye contact.
“You really leaving with this guy, y/n?”
You ignored the question, allowing Eddie to drape your jacket over your exposed shoulders, eyes still locked on Andy. You’d never seen him look so intense or intimidating. It was kinda scary. Andy shook his head in disbelief. Munson had swooped in and stole you right out of his hands. “Whatever.” He huffed. Surprisingly, he let it go and skulked away. It was a relief. Things could’ve gotten messy. As you tried to walk away with your friend, you struggled to keep even footing. Why was it suddenly so hard to walk like a normal person? You nearly tripped over your own feet.
“I got you.” His voice was almost a whisper. He leaned down to drape your arm over his shoulder, his other arm around your waist. Maybe it was because he was familiar or maybe you could feel the difference of intentions, but his touch felt way more comfortable than Andy’s. You could smell his cologne mixed with the smoke of his last cigarette. Weirdly pleasant. “Let’s get you the hell out of here.” You leaned into your friend, the leather of his jacked sticking to your cheek. With closed eyes, you let him guide you back to the van.
————
For a while you drove in silence. You thought maybe he was pissed at you. Every so often you could feel him look at you, but you were too embarrassed to meet his eyes. You imagined the looks he gave you would either rack you with guilt or tear through you like paper. Such an idiot. The alcohol in your system felt amplified in the dark of the van. The road ahead you felt winding and barely recognizable.
“…You okay?” He finally spoke.
“Myeah, I’m fine. Woozy is’all.” You spoke quietly to conserve what energy you felt you had left. The silence overtook the two of you again. You could feel there was something else he wanted to ask, but he almost seemed afraid to.
“…..he didn't….he didn’t like-“ Eddie bit at his thumb and nervously shifted his focus between the road and you.
“No…no, that was as far as it went.” You looked down at the wrinkle on your dress. You wondered what might’ve happened if Eddie hadn’t have shown up when he did. “But I’m glad you were there.”
The air felt heavy with a tension you may have even struggled to grasp while sober. “You were that mad at me?” Eddie’s eyebrows pinched together as he spoke.
“I just wanted to prove you wrong. But I guess I fucked up. Probably ruined your night.”
”Ruined my night? Are you kidding? I got to crash Jason Carver’s house party and leave with the hottest girl there.” His toned lifted to it’s natural state, clearing away some of the edge you felt. He couldn’t have meant that. You smirked and rolled your eyes. “….you do look nice though.” His face softened as he eyed you up and down in your party dress. He had never seen you in something like that. His gaze lingered momentarily on the hem of the skirt, slightly raised, resting against your skin. It wasn’t a hungry look. Still, he quickly pulled his eyes back up to the road as if he was committing sin. “So is this a new look for you?”
“No. After tonight it returns to the back of the closet.” You preferred your jeans and T-shirts. “So…where are we going exactly?”
“Um, I’m taking you back home?”
“Nononono. I can’t do that. I told my parents I was staying with a friend. My dad has a nose like a bloodhound, okay. If-If he catches me sneaking back in, he’ll know right away. I-I can’t.” You we’re in full protest of the idea.
“Well is there somewhere else you can go?”
You thought about his question for a second. The first thing that came to your mind was Maddy. You always thought you’d be attending your first big party together. The two of you crashing at her place afterward. “No.” You admitted, voice sullen and small.
It didn’t go unnoticed. Eddie may not have know the nature of it, but he knew the word was laden. “Tell you what, I gotta stop of for gas. It was a bit of an adventure finding your ass tonight.” He grinned, begrudgingly. “I’ll run in, grab you something to sober you up a little then you can come stay with me. You can take the bed, I’ll sleep on the floor. And as soon as you wake up, I’ll run you back home. ‘Kay?” He’d really do all that? It seemed like such a grand gesture, but he was so casual about it. He was probably still feeling guilty about what happened in the woods.
All at once the heat radiating from the vents changed from pleasant to smothering and sickening.
“Eh-Eddie I don’t feel-“ A slight tremble at the end. His head snapped to you so quick he could’ve got whiplash. The color completely drained from your face. He looked at you in horror. He knew what was coming.
“JESUS CHRIST! Don’t you do it, y/n! DON’T!” He frantically bounced in his seat. The van bounced with him adding to the queasy, fun-house effect stationed on your insides. “D-D-D UHHHH” he stammered. “ROLL THE WINDOW DOWN OR SOMETHING! I am NOT cleaning up after you!”
You clumsily grabbed the window crank on the side of the door. Just as quickly as you let the window done, you shoved your head out. The chilly fall air filled your noise and eased you back from the verge of sweat. The feeling in your stomach slowly began to subside. You breathed in the relief. It smelled like wet leaves and asphalt. You took a moment to appreciate it. Beyond the sound of wind fluttering past your ears, you could hear music. Eye’s Without A Face by Billy Idol played with Eddie inside the van. A bubbly smile found it’s way to you. Maybe it was the alcohol, but life seemed to lose all its heaviness in that moment. You were carefree. Is this what Eddie was trying to get through to you? He watched you from the corner of his eye, smiling to yourself. Hair blowing in the breeze, singing into the wind. He sang along with you.
‘I’m thinking of you. You’re out there, so say your prayers’

Eddie ran a hand down his face. He pushed his chair away from the table and grabbed his jacket. He was fuming. Didn’t any of them care about you? “Just because she hasn’t asked for help doesn’t mean she doesn’t need it.”
“Where are you going?” Steve asked, gesturing his arms out to the 3 large pizzas on the table.
“To go check on our friend.”

Save a little for yourself, never give it all away
Save a little for some help, you know you're gonna need someday
You've got a lotta love, enough to go 'round
- Mandy Moore
The burden of carrying everyone else’s problems and emotions was weighing down on you, more than you’d like to admit. Well, you didn’t admit it at all. You’d smile and say everything was fine. You were just tired. A little overworked and overwhelmed. But nothing you couldn’t handle.
You were walking out of the main building at school when Nancy called your name. Please don’t ask me for a favor, you thought before turning around with a small smile. “Hey, Nance.”
Nancy hooked her arm through yours while you walked out to the parking lot. “Will we see you tonight?”
Your mind started reeling, thinking about what would be on the calendar for tonight. You had to make dinner for your neighbors when you got home because Mrs. Zimmerman broke her wrist. Her kids were too young to help and her husband was as helpful as a potato, so you offered to make a couple of meals for them.
You needed to visit Max and make sure Lucas was doing okay. You also needed to check in with your friend Jessica, who’d been feeling overwhelmed by her parent’s divorce. Recently, you had been spending more time at other people’s homes than your own.
“What’s tonight?”
“Pizza with everyone at Tony’s,” Nancy answered. “You’re coming, right?”
Crap. Pizza night. How could you forget? It had only been a tradition for the past 4 Fridays since you all defeated Vecna together. Your very own band of misfits— the 2 popular girls, the gay band geek, the freshmen, the freak, and the post-graduate who needed to find friends his own age. They were the unexpected family that you’d do absolutely anything for, even if it meant losing yourself in the process.
You sighed, feeling defeated over everything you’d said yes to. You had to go to pizza night, though. That was important. “I’ll have to move some things around, but I’ll be there.”
Nancy smiled widely and squeezed your arm. “Yay! 6:00 at Tony’s. I’ll save you a spot next to Eddie,” she teased.
Your cheeks went hot. You hadn't shared your more than friendly feelings for Eddie with Nancy and you weren’t ready to admit those feelings yet. “Oh, my God, Nance. It’s not like that. We’re just friends.”
“He talks about you all the time, you know.”
Don’t get yourself too excited, now. She could be bluffing to get a reaction out of you. “I bandaged his wounds and made him meals for 2 weeks, he better talk about me all the time.”
“Mike told me he made a new character based on you in Dungeons and Dragons.”
Your cheeks now felt like there was a fire burning beneath them. “Wait, he did what?”
Nancy raised her eyebrows, giving you the look. The I know there’s something you’re not telling me look.
“Nance, what did he say?”
“He didn’t explicitly say it was after you, but it seemed pretty obvious. Eddie described her as having your hair color and eyes. And she’s like, some sort of healer who would do anything to help her friends.”
Your heart was thumping so loudly, you could hear it in your ears. Pull yourself together, this was second-hand news! You needed to hear it from the source. At pizza night. You’d ask him about it after his 6th slice of pizza when he’s mostly made of mozzarella and marinara sauce.“It could be a coincidence.”
Nancy rolled her eyes. “I’ll get those feelings out of you eventually.”
You opened your car door. “Oh, really? When are you finally gonna admit to yourself that you like Steve again?”
“I- I do not! We were talking about you.” She was flustered. Bringing the conversation back to you. Yup, she totally liked him. Even if he did want 6 kids. Good luck with that, Harrington.
As most of the parking lot had cleared out, you checked your watch. Your thumping heart sank to your feet. It was a quarter to 4 already. There was no way you’d have time to make dinner for the Zimmermans and visit Max and Jessica before 6. You’d have to visit them after pizza night.
“I gotta go, Nance. If you’re not gonna admit your feelings, then I’m not going to admit my feelings.” you slid into your car, turned on the ignition, and rolled down the window.
“What I’m hearing is that you have feelings to admit.”
“I’m driving away now!”
Steve, Eddie, and Dustin were pushing together three tables to form one long table to seat the group. Everyone assumed their usual spots at the table— with Nancy leaving the seat between her and Eddie open for you. Lucas was with Max but Erica never missed out on free pizza. (The ones with jobs always split the bill).
It was well past 6:30 and you still hadn’t shown up. It was incredibly unlike you. You were never late to anything, and if you were, you’d call ahead. Eddie was tapping his fingers on the table, drumming an anxious beat. He was biting his nails on the other hand.
“Would you cut that out?” Erica demanded.
Eddie stopped abruptly. “Sorry. I was thinking about Y/N.”
“Oooooooh,” Dustin, Steve, and Mike all chorus.
Eddie didn’t even bat an eyelash. He was too worried about you to care about what the boys thought. “Have you guys noticed anything weird about her lately? She’s never late.”
Everyone at the table thought about Eddie’s question. They’d all known you longer than Eddie had, but you’d spent quite a bit of time together while you were playing nurse. You told him you liked taking care of him. You talked about being motivated by feeling wanted and needed. That is, being helpful to others in order to feel their love for you was justified. Maybe you were being too helpful. Stretching yourself too thin.
Dustin spoke first. “She’s been visiting Max like, every day. I don’t know, that would make me pretty depressed if I was going over there every day.”
“Didn’t she say something about making dinner for her neighbors because they broke their arm or something?” Steve added.
“She’s also been helping Jessica cope with her parent’s divorce,” Nancy piped up.
“Hasn’t she also been helping at the soup kitchen on the weekends?” Robin said with pizza shoved in her cheek.
“Jesus Christ,” Eddie exasperated. “And nobody’s thought to check on her?”
They all shrugged. “She hasn’t asked for any help,” Robin noted. “I thought she had it all under control.”
When Eddie got to your house, he wasted no time pounding on your front door. It swung open to reveal your mother with a disapproving frown on her face. It only softened slightly when she saw it was Eddie who was the culprit. Much to your surprise, your parents were more open to your newfound friendship with Eddie than you thought they would be. Your mom said he was “sweet” but your dad said not to date him. You agreed with your mom but you couldn’t make any promises to your dad.
“Sorry about that, Mrs. Y/L/N. Is Y/N here?”
“She’s upstairs talking with a friend on the phone. Is everything okay, Eddie?”
“Can I come in? I need to see her. Everything’s fine. I think. I just need to see her.” Eddie was chewing the inside of his cheek.
Your mom opened the door to let him in. “What is all this about?”
Eddie paced the foyer, thinking of how to approach the conversation with you. He’s known you the shortest amount of time, why was he the one who had the decency and care to show up for you? “I’m- I’m worried about her. She’s been spending a lot of time helping other people and I’m worried she’s not taking care of herself.”
“I’ve noticed it, too. She won’t listen to me when I tell her she needs to slow down. Maybe you can talk some sense into her.”
“Can I go upstairs?”
Your mom nodded. “Keep the door open, please.”
Eddie hopped up the stairs, giving your mom a thumbs up. Your door was cracked ajar, soft yellow light seeping into the hallway. He brought his hand up to knock but he hesitated when he heard you end the conversation.
You placed the phone back on the receiver, rolled off of your bed, and opened your door. You were more than startled to have an Eddie-sized wall in front of you. You collided with his chest, overtaken by his scent for a brief second. You took two steps back. His hair was its usual wavy mess and he was wearing a Black Sabbath t-shirt underneath a jean jacket decorated with buttons on the chest pockets. His eyebrows were creased together.
“Ed-Eddie. What are you doing here? Why aren’t you at pizza night?”
“Because you weren’t there.” He slipped passed you and into your bedroom. It was clear you hadn’t changed it since you were young. It looked very much like Nancy’s— pink walls, frilly curtains, and pictures of your friends on your mirror. You had some eyeshadow and lipstick thrown about on your dresser, though you hadn’t been up for wearing much makeup recently.
It felt so personal to be in your space. Like Eddie had just crossed a line he didn’t know was there. Like knowing you had a Rob Lowe poster on your wall changed the level of your friendship.
He came to your house because you weren’t at dinner? What did that mean?
“I was coming, I just needed to tell my friend I couldn’t come over until after dinner and she talked longer than I expected. But I was going to be there. You didn’t have to come all the way here.”
Eddie sat down on your bed. “I did. I’m… I’m worried about you.”
“Why are you worried about me? I’m fine.” you crossed your arms defensively.
“That’s exactly what someone who’s not fine would say.”
You walked over to your dresser and rested your hands on the edge. Eddie swung his legs over your bed to look at you in the mirror. You met his gaze and there was so much concern in his big, beautiful eyes. Did you put that concern there? Your nose began to burn as tears pricked in your eyes.
“Talk to me,” Eddie said softly. “You can trust me, you know.”
You sniffled. Crying in front of the boy you were crushing on was not on your agenda for today. Or, ever. It was too late now, though. The floodgates were open and they needed to run their course. You dropped to the floor as you broke out in a sob. Your head was rested between your knees, your tears falling onto the carpet.
Eddie quickly shuffled off of your bed and met you on the ground. He wanted to hug you, to hold you, but he wasn’t sure if that was comforting. He didn’t know if that was crossing a boundary you weren’t okay with. So he placed his hand on your arm, gently running his thumb back and forth. “Hey, hey, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to make you cry.”
All you could do was nod. Words would just be swallowed by your violent cries. Your throat was tight and your chest was heaving. You couldn’t catch your breath and everything felt like it was on fire. You fell into Eddie and he immediately wrapped his arms around you. He adjusted you so you were on his lap and his back was against your bed. “It’s okay, I’ve got you.”
He cradled you like a baby and began rocking you gently. In any other circumstance, it would’ve felt ridiculous, but this was exactly what you needed. The physical contact was grounding you, his gentle words were calming you. He ran his hand over your head, holding you close to his chest. Even through your stuffy nose, you could smell the weed on his clothes. It sort of made you smile. You two were so different from one another, and yet, you understood each other. He cared enough about you to miss pizza night.
“You’re okay. It’s alright.” Eddie soothed. He continued to rock you until you calmed down.
The feeling of air started to return to your lungs and you took a deep breath through your mouth. “I’m sorry,” you choked out.
“Why are you apologizing?”
You wiped your nose with the back of your hand. You lifted your head from Eddie’s chest, making you extremely aware of how close you were to his face. You could probably count every eyelash decorating his gorgeous brown eyes if you wanted to. He was so beautiful and there you were with sticky cheeks and snot dripping out of your nose. How attractive.
You stood up from Eddie’s lap and grabbed some tissues from your nightstand. You blew your nose. Wow, even more attractive. You tossed it into the trash bin. “For just… breaking down in front of you.”
Eddie got up from the floor and sat back down on your bed. “You’re doing too much. You’re making dinner for like half of Hawkins.”
He almost got a laugh out of you. “Because they need help and I can give it to them.”
“Not to the point where you’re giving everything you have away to other people. You can’t take care of anybody if you don’t take care of yourself. You realize that, right?”
You huffed. You knew that Eddie was right, you just didn’t want to admit it. “There’s just a lot going on right now. People need me.”
“What about what you need?”
“Since when did you become my shrink?” You sat next to Eddie.
“Shut up,” he nudged his shoulder against yours. “You’re my friend and you’re hurting. I want to make you feel better. What makes you happy?”
All your friends made you happy. They took up so much room in your heart. Even Eddie—especially Eddie— who was more caring and thoughtful than you’d ever anticipated. He was the one who came to you. He was the one who just held you when you broke down. He was the one that was here.
“You,” you looked up at Eddie. His lip quirked into a small smile when he heard your answer. His eyes brightened as if he’d just won pit tickets to Metallica or Dio. “Being with you makes me happy.”
You didn’t know it, but his heart was beating at 220 beats per minute at your admission. Being with him really made you happy? It was a good thing being with you made him happy, too.
“Then I’m not going anywhere, angel. Is there anything I can do for you?”
It was like you were back at his new trailer when you started taking care of his injuries and cooking dinner for him and his uncle every other night. I want to help you, Eddie. Is there anything I can do?
When his uncle was working night shifts, you would still go over and have dinner with Eddie. So it’s not like you’d never been alone with him. But this was different. This was at your house, in your bedroom. He’d seen the chair that you put worn-once-so-it’s-not-quite-dirty clothes. He’d seen your messy dresser and pink-colored walls.
“I- um… I…” Yeah, there was no way you could look him in the eyes when you said this. You looked at your hands in your lap instead. “I liked it when you were… when you were holding me. Do you think we can just… cuddle? For a little bit? If you’re not comfortable then-”
“Big spoon or little spoon?” Eddie interrupted. You brought your eyes to his. It was a genuine question.
“Little spoon.”
“Okay.”
You lay down on your bed, fluffing your pillow beneath you. Your back was to Eddie, leaving you to stare at Rob Lowe. You really needed to take him down.
Eddie followed suit, the bed bouncing as he assumed the position behind you. Your breath hitched when you felt his legs hit yours and he rested his head on your pillow. All he was smelling was your coconut shampoo which made his stomach flip. He timidly placed his arm over your torso, his hand on your belly. “Is this okay?” Eddie whispered.
“Yes,” you matched his volume. You slotted your fingers through his and nuzzled yourself closer to him. Your back met his chest, your bum against his waist. You slipped a leg between his, making yourself more than comfortable with his body. You needed to feel as much of him as possible.
It was more than strange how much comfort Eddie brought you. It wasn’t easy for you to express your emotions, let alone such emotional emotions. But Eddie had carved his own spot in your heart, separate from the spot where all your friends lived.
“You have so much love to give,” Eddie began. “We all see that. But promise me you’ll start saving a little for yourself. You can’t give away what you don’t have.”
You were silent. That was a big promise to make.
“Promise me, angel. You’re loved no matter what.”
Loved no matter what. You held onto Eddie’s hand a little tighter. “I promise, Eddie.”
Voices from the television downstairs served as a sort of white noise while you and Eddie cuddled. Your breathing settled and Eddie’s heart finally calmed down when he got out of his head and just let himself enjoy holding you. Because he did. He enjoyed having you wrapped in his arms. He never wanted to let you go.
You were both quiet for so long, that each of you thought the other had fallen asleep.
“Eddie?”
“Yeah?”
“I like cuddling with you. You make me feel safe.”
“Me too.”
i hope you enjoyed this! like i said, i wrote this for myself but i wanted to share it with all of you. please take care of yourselves. you are valued no matter how helpful you are to other people. all my love to you 🤍

summary: your best friend robin is in a bit of a pickle, and who else to help her out is there, but you? did she forget to mention eddie munson?
word count: 2.6k
warnings: mentions of drugs, drug use, FLUFFFFFFFF
“seriously, robin. if i wanted to be arrested for drug possession, i could think of a million other ways to do it.”
“really? you?”
you closed the lid on your flute, sitting snug as a bug in a rug within its case. “really. me.”
robin scoffed as she threw her trumpet with little care into its case, shutting its locks with a click. “for some unknown reason,” she eyeballed, looking you up and down, “you make that very hard to believe. besides, you’d really be doing me a favour here. you owe me, remember?”
“remind me?”
“last month when you skipped band practice to go to the mall? i had to tell mrs. blancher you came down with the craziest case of diahorrea?”
your fellow bandmates were slowly filing out of the music room, the blanket of chatter slowly leaving with them. hoping to escape this ploy you were very obviously being dragged into, you threw a handle of your backpack over your shoulder and grabbed your instrument off your chair. “you sure that was a favour?”
hurriedly grabbing her things and following close on your heels into the hallway, robin was growing desperate. “okay, okay, okay. i know it might not have been the best excuse, but i did it out of the goodness of my own heart! doesn’t that count for something?”
“okay, whatever. why can’t you just go get it yourself? i don’t understand why i have to go for you.”
“because i just so happen to have a shift at the video store with steve and won’t have time to do much else before the party.”
you rolled your eyes.
“pretty please? please, please, please do this eensie weensie little thing for me?” robin clutched her hand’s together so tightly that her knuckles were almost white, eyes scrunched closed in prayer.
despite not being friends for a very long time, you had to admit that your soft spot for robin ran pretty deep, as much as you liked to hide it. “alright! okay,” you sighed in admission. “i’ll go see munson.”
lunch was a sort of organised chaos - one that you never really had to think about beyond getting your food and walking to your usual table near the windows. if you really focused and examined your peers’ seating arrangements, you might be able to find some sort of hierarchy, but admittedly you were more interested in the food in front of you.
robin came into your field of consciousness with the grace of a baby deer, slamming her lunch tray onto the clear space of table next to you and making herself comfortable on the bench seat. “ah, how we meet again!” she laughed, nudging your shoulder.
“very funny, rob.” you laughed in response, nudging her back. “study period got you on the ritz again?”
“you know it. but something else has been nagging me even more, believe it or not.” she sighed into her meatloaf before downing a heaped spoonful. oh no, you think, i was hoping she forgot about that.
“i have.. almost this sixth sense.. that you’re avoiding the the task i so graciously handed off to you yesterday.” she raised her spoon at you, eyes reduced to slits. “am i right?”
you shrugged, quietly picking at the mystery meat in front of you. “i haven’t forgotten, don’t worry. just.. waiting for the right time.”
as if thinking the same thing, you both turn your heads to peer at the table a few from your own.
eddie munson was quite the character. ever since you started at hawkins’ high as a freshman and first seen him in the flesh, you had held a sort of fascination with him. you’ve always preferred keeping your head down and keeping to yourself, it’s always been easier to handle the lack of drama when you’d always been sort of… forgettable. the main character in a filler episode type of personality. but this boy never seemed to care what others thought of him - the mischevious smile that never failed to reach his eyes, that playful glint in his eye; it was enough to piss people off, but you found yourself a little jealous of his reckless abandon. your memory of him doesn’t pale in comparison to how he appears in front of you now, it only created a clearer picture.
although you couldn’t exactly tell what he and his friends were talking about, you could still hear the echoes of his voice travel across the cafeteria and see his arms wildly gesticulating something to the boys sitting around him. if you hadn’t known any better, from this angle he looked a bit like an excited kid (albeit, a kid two years older than you).
as if he could feel your gaze on him, he whipped his head around to look in your direction. he caught you staring long enough to throw you a questioning look. you continued to blankly stare at him before being ripped out of your reverie by a painful pinch from your neighbour. “eks-nay on the staring-ay, doofus.”
you quickly realised that you were basically staring all googly-eyed at eddie munson and were caught in the act by none other than the aforementioned party. “fuck. FUCK.” your hand flew to your brow to shield yourself from his view as you began to closely examine your meatloaf.
robin sounded exasperated, joining in on your stealth mission. “you better hope he doesn’t charge extra after that stunt you just pulled.”
“surely not? besides, its not like he’ll remember who i am.” you sneak a peek back at his table through your fingers to see if he was still looking your way. huh. “okay, coast is clear. he’s gone.” it seemed a bit strange that he had just disappeared, but you decided not to question it and count your blessings.
“i swear to god, it feels like the universe is throwing obstacle after obstacle at me in the revelation that i might have some fun tonight.” you let out a breathy laugh at robin’s epiphany, resting your head on her shoulder.
“god, you’re telling me. i never knew this would stress me out so much. i haven’t even asked munson to meet yet!” you let out another giggle, too slow to realise that your friend had gone stiff.
“what do you mean you haven’t asked munson to meet yet?” you lifted your head to meet robin’s raised eyebrow.
“well, i mean- i was going to do it later.. like at last period, or something? isn’t that how it works?” something tells you that no matter what you said here was the wrong answer.
“y/n…” robin shook her head. “at least give him some notice! i bet ten dollars we will not be his only customers today and his services will be in high demand. you have to ask him now. like as soon as possible.”
you found yourself at a loss for words. just as you were about retort back at robin for not giving you any sort of direction, an unfamiliar voice answered for you.
“ask me what?”
eddie was standing right behind you and robin. dear god.
robin was the first to turn around with a sheepish grin. “heeey, munson.. we were just talking about you.”
you gulped, hoping that the floor would just swallow you whole and you wouldn’t have to sit through this interaction any longer.
“yeah i figured. saw your friend checking me out all the way from my table,” he smirked, turning his attention toward you.
his indignance seemed to awaken a little fire within you, causing you to sit up straight and look at him dead in the eye. “i… was not.”
eddie let a small chuckle escape his lips. somehow your feigned confidence served as an invitation for him to make himself comfortable on the bench seat next you. turning his body toward you, he rested his chin in his hand and grinned maniacally at you. “so, what did you want to ask me?”
seeing the infamous troublemaker up close was a lot more pleasing to the eye than you originally thought. you didn’t exactly have the luxury of time to inspect his every feature, but you knew that roguish sparkle in his eye belonged to him. besides, his cocky act was enough to piss you off a little bit. “for weed, munson.” you decided to mimic his smile, resting your own chin in your hand. “were you hoping for something else?”
“honestly? yeah,” he moved closer, testing your resolve. your faces were nothing but a breath away from each other; it took everything in you not to shuffle backwards into the safety of robin. “but i can be patient.” his brown eyes flittled between your eyes and your lips so quickly you could have imagined it. he suddenly stood up and stepped away from the table to take a bow. “i shall be seeing you at the park bench in the woods at 4pm, m’lady.”
“oh.. okay.” you both sat there watching eddie, dumbfounded. it was as if what just happened was a hallucination - he shot you a wink over his shoulder as he left the cafeteria and disappeared into the hallway.
you turned to robin to get some look of reprieve, only to be met with a gaze that said i told you so. “could’ve been worse, right?”
there was a notable chill in the air; the leaves were yellow, orange and red and while some of them held on for dear life, most of their fellow leaves created a colourful palette on the forest floor.
counting the leaves one by one was the only thing holding you together right now. all that was running through your head - or rather, that you were trying to distract yourself from thinking about - was how you embarrassed yourself so collosally at lunch. what were you thinking? what was that whole thing? eddie is kinda weird.. isn’t he? well, it explains a lot of what you’ve heard and seen thus far.
oh man, who cares anyway? you think to yourself. it’s not i’m ever going to speak to him again. it’s not like he’ll remember me beyond whatever happened today.
you stretched your jumper sleeves over your hands and scrunched the material up in your palm, obscuring any lingering cold breeze that dared to slip through.
yeah, it’s fine. i’m so fine. i’m just going to do the deal, head to the party and forget any of this ever happened.
“hey-“
so enrapped in your own thoughts, you didn’t expect to hear a voice coming from behind you, sending you flying up from your seat with a yell.
“woah, sorry. didn’t mean to scare you.” eddie stepped back with his hands up, one still being occupied holding a small metal box.
you took a second to gather yourself before sitting back down. “it’s fine. sorry about that.” you were trying to push out the thought that you have just embarrassed yourself for the second (or was it third?) time in front of this guy and you weren’t sure if you could handle another stint of this.
the table seemed like an awfully interesting subject of focus instead of the drug dealer who was now circling back to sit across from you. from the corner of your eye, you could see eddie trying to hold back a grin, his lips pursed into a thin line. just my fucking luck. ugh.
“so-“
“well-“
you lifted your head to look up at him to find a familiar pair of brown eyes looking straight back at you. you couldn’t help but mirror the grin eddie projected, and before you knew it, you both burst into laughter.
“god, sorry! i’m a bit of a nervous mess, aren’t i?” you giggle sheepishly, scratching the back of your ear.
“understatement of the year,” eddie chuckled, playing with the latch on the little box. “we don’t have to do this if you don’t want to. just say the word.”
the wall you created around yourself softened to clay at his comforting words. maybe he wasn’t so scary after all? or is that just what he wanted you to think?
“thanks, but i’m good.” you nodded to yourself. “how much does thirty dollars get me?”
“maybe enough for a small family of 4?” eddie answered back in disbelief. “didn’t peg you as the type.” he raised his eyebrows at his container, leisurely collecting the goods together.
you almost corrected him, but your curiousity got the best of you. “the type to what?”
“oh i don’t know,” he threw his hands up. “the type to buy a pound of weed out of the blue?”
“thought this was a ‘no questions asked’ kind of transaction?” you raised your brow, causing eddie to bite down his lip bashfully and continue to carefully scoop the leaves into a little bag for you. “but you’re right, munson. it’s not for me - it’s for robin and her other friends.”
“oh yeah?” he pressed the bag shut along the suction closure at the top. “big party tonight?”
“you haven’t heard? it’s at patrick’s house on cornwall.” eddie looked at you blankly. “patrick mckinney? on the basketball team?”
“ah, that explains it.” you and eddie exchange packages; three ten dollar bills for a medium sized ziploc bag filled with little balls of green. “you haven’t heard? those assholes are allergic to freaks. not that i care to get to know the monkey living in their empty skulls.” he looks down at the money in his hands for a beat, before shuffling it back into the box.
“well… i wouldn’t say you’re a freak.” you squeezed your lips together. as best as you tried to keep to yourself, it was definitely hard to ignore the bullying that went on. it wasn’t fair to the hellfire club to keep taking all the ignorant insults thrown their way. over a board game? and music? are you serious? you couldn’t believe people were so dense.
“really?” you had piqued eddie’s interest. maybe that moment in the cafeteria earlier wasn’t a one off occurence. “what would you call me?”
you looked at eddie. really looked at him. from his wild curly hair, brown eyes shimmering with curiousity, mischevious grin, all the way down to the chunky rings he adorned - he looked nothing like a freak. he was cute, you’d admit it to yourself, but never to him. “i would call you… interesting.”
“hm!” he smiled widely, nodding to himself. “well, you might be the only one who thinks so. thanks.”
without even touching them to check, you could tell your ears were burning bright red. “anytime, munson.”
sitting across from each other just smiling had you both fidgeting with nothing after a few minutes. “well, i guess i should be going.”
“oh. yeah. sure,” eddie seemed to be caught up in his own thoughts until you started getting up. following your lead, he awkwardly waited for you to gather your things before he joined you on the walk back down to the parking lot.
“is this not a violation of customer policy or something?” you joked, hiding a grin.
eddie looked over at you, metal box jingling in his arms as he walked beside you. “maybe,” he shrugged. “gotta say, our hr department sucks.”
you giggled, covering your mouth as you did. “i kinda wish you were coming tonight.”
“really?”
you have no idea where this sudden rush of confidence came from; it was a total 180 from earlier today. explaining this stir in your chest after such a brief interaction was bound to sound ridiculous once it left your mouth, so you decided against it. “really.”
eddie did little to hide the grin spreading across his face. “maybe i could make a quick stop on the way home.” he looked over at you, brown pools of hope clouding his eyes. “do you need a ride?”
