So Hear Me Out, The Willex Hug.

so hear me out, the willex hug.

image

if we sit down and hyper-analyze it like i did, we get a lot of feelings because they’re so cute and this scene simultaneously makes me whole as a human and tears apart my insides bc they might never see each other again.

the way alex pulls him into the hug, as if it’s the only one he’s ever going to get (let’s face it probably) and it’s like he’s trying to convey how much willie means to him in one hug so he’s like, i gotta make this count. and it’s not your average joe embrace, it’s like a deep embrace filled with so many emotions and alex isn’t good at saying how he feels but maybe he’s better at showing it?? (i’m a mess i need to go to bed)  BUT IT DOESN’T STOP THERE. OH NO.

image

THEN THERE’S WILLIE WHO IS INITIALLY JUST TAKEN ABACK?!?! and then he realizes what’s happening and that he might never see alex again so he relaxes, and accepts the embrace, but he holds on like he never wants to let go. peep how alex wraps his arms tighter around willie once he realizes he’s reciprocating the hug. like end me now, writers. because i can’t. it’s almost like willie wants to say something, tell alex everything’s going to be okay and that they’ll see each other again soon but he can’t so he just stays there and holds him.

and i’m crying, we’re all crying right? but there’s more.

image

the way willie’s eyebrows knit together in anguish. like he wants to hold onto this moment forever so they both try so hard but then know it has to come to an end. he curls his fingers against alex’s back in hopes that it gives alex some sort of comfort. he knows how anxious he probably is about the whole thing. and it’s not awkward, it’s such a genuine, warm embrace. like coming home and saying goodbye all at once.

image

and then we have alex finally who doesn’t want to go, but he knows that he has to. he has to let him go, because he needs him safe and because he cares so so much about willie and he just hopes this was enough to say everything and nothing at the same time. he’s so reluctant to let him go and the way his face is buried in his shoulder i -

Chapter One: Acquaintances

I. Move In Day

They say that 21 is a prime year.

You could go to clubs without getting that stupid stamp on your hand. You could legally drink now without the worry of getting your birthday party shut down because of said despicable acts. There's many things you can do.

But they could never prepare you with adulthood.

No. Not when five years had passed because of the blip. When you were the only family member to be have been “dusted”. Your family grows without you. Your younger siblings now either older than you or close enough to be as old as you. Successful in their own ways with ways with one being an aspiring artist. Galleries along the coast with her paintings hung in the display rooms of Ikea and above dinner tables of well endowed families. The other planning to pursue a career in computer science with ivy leagues lining up to persuade her to come to their school.

Now she was in the middle.

And it was so suffocating.

One year at the local university just off the side of the freeway, she couldn't handle it anymore. Coming home to strangers. She needed to leave and rightfully so, she did.

Didn't take much asking.

Money was given. No questions, no answers.

There were two things she wished.

She wished her parents could've put up a fight. Begged her to stay.

She wished she could've asked them about how much it was to live in the East Coast before she left.

Rent is soaring. 4 thousand for a small apartment that had its bed where you eat the dinner? Not at all surprised though. It was 2021 and everyone wants to live here. Sorting through the multiple layer of paperwork laid out in the desk in front of her, she quickly signed her signatures to get it over with.

Pottermore was right. She definitely was a Gryffindor for signing the lease without reading the fine lines.

Grumpy Mr. John Flores, the landlord, almost crumbled the paper when he took the papers away. It's fascinating to her how many people she's met so far already in this city that hate their jobs. Humming along to a tune that she distinctly remembered from her taxi drive, she picked up her cardboard box and the handle of her suitcase, pulling it along behind her in a constant beat.

Tipping left and right, her head lifted above the box to watch she was headed. And hopefully that was towards the elevator.

"Okay, you got this. Just one foot in front of another, no rush. " Self motivation. That's the best way to go at it. Leaning up again to check where she was, she noticed that she had successfully made it to the foyer. Only three more steps, you got this, girl.

But it was as if the Earth had shifted and she felt an imbalance in the floor tile, her feet slipping over a bump. If she weren't carrying 15 pounds of knick knacks, she could've easily maintained that balance. But gravity was doing its job of pulling down mass to the center of the Earth. She had mentally intended to yell out the phrase," Going down!" but instead had actually said it out loud accidentally, already feeling the hard stares from the other residents doing their business in the lobby.

Preparing for the loud smack of the box hitting the floor and the following embarrassment of picking up all her fallen items, she squeezed her eyes shut for the worst. "Oh." Instead she was met with a force pushing her up and the weight being lifted up from her arms. If this was a sitcom, cheers and claps would ring through the studio but the room remained silent as the unknown figure walked with no struggle to the elevator door. Judging by their shape, it was a male.

"Hey!" She waved her hand as if he was going to turn around but his body disappeared into the crowd of persistent residents requesting that the owner do something about the clogged pipes. A couple of them, especially a middle aged couple, stared at her as if she were crazy, "Thanks, I guess." Whispering softly to herself with her eyes casted down onto the floor, walking carefully and slowly to the elevators.

Now why had they had acted like she had seen a ghost?

_

The store bought cookies that she decorated perfectly on the pink tray she bought from the dollar tree down the street. So far all her neighbors in the hall were nice enough to take the cookies. Now here she was standing in front of an unopened door, whistling to a show tune from a black and white film that played earlier this morning.

Time passed and passed and as much as she hated to admit it, she gave up.

Placing the tray of cookies onto the floor and stepping back into her opened apartment. But as soon as she shut the door, she heard another open.

Scrambling to peek through the peep hole, she saw the door from across the hall slowly open. A blurry silhouette of a boy leaning over to pick up the tray of cookies before he just as quickly shut the door as if he was never there.

Interesting.

_

Third day and cousin Rosie from Dad's side had finally arrived with the truck with all her belongings. Knowing she would go back during the holidays, she didn't pack a lot... 8 boxes wouldn't be considered a lot right?

Sweat dripped down from the crown of her hairline to the crook of her neck. The New York weather causing her to strip down from her hoodie and sweats to a pair of zebra shorts and a loose tank top. It was far too hot for her self conscious thoughts to get the best of her.

Multiple missed calls have rung through the apartment since she set up the home phone. Most likely from her young siblings or the Fitness program she just recently signed up for that she would most likely never use because commitment to hobbies are a hard thing to do.

One last box just in time for the sun lower itself to let the moon take over. The hour that creates that perfect hue that shined through her curtains. Wiping the water from her brow, she swung open the door, unaware of the presence behind the door. It was too late as a gasp slipped through her lips.

Thank goodness for the person's fast reflexes, they were able to quickly grab the door before it hit them in their face. Y/N rushed around the door to apologize profusely for her carelessness but her apology was stunted when she saw the stranger.

Almost starstruck.

He was just so... pretty. His messy curls perched perfectly on top of his head. His brown eyes entrancing. Stuck in them, she was. Hypnotized, the words that she wanted to say blanked.

Snapped out of her trance by his sudden movements, she watched his toned back move towards the door across the hall. His hands jiggling with keys to find the right key. One and one clicked together, his back vaguely familiar from this morning. Oh my gosh, he's the one who helped with the falling box. "Hey, superboy!" The browned hair male stopped his movements at the girl's sudden outburst, whether it was because of the nickname or he was just surprised was unknown to her but she continued on" Thanks for helping me out earlier. Really saved me from cracking my skull open."

Upon hearing her thank you, she could see the side of his face turn towards her. Lips moving to speak but instead of hearing his voice, Y/N heard a wolf whistle come not more than 3 doors down. The culprit being John Flores. John Flores Jr. "Now this is something worth living here for." In all his sleazyness in his walk, the man had stepped closer to the pair. Jutting out his stomach with his body leaned up on the wall. "So young and innocent you are. Mamas, where you from?"

"California." Her voice soft and quiet to the point that John Jr leaned forward with a playful frown," Sorry, sweetheart. I didn't get that."

"I-I'm from San Diego."

"S-San Diego?" He mocked her stuttering tone," Oh the sunny city, right? Lots of girls just like you?" Unknown to her as her eyes traveled around the room in hopes to get out of his awkward conversation, his eyes were trailing down her outfit to the slight cleavage that pecked out from the hem of her shirt because of her crossed arms. The meat of her tummy that peeked out through the shortness of her tank top.

But the quiet male through this all saw it all. Disgust running through his veins.

Superboy had finally opened his door, disappointment clear in Y/N's face. She saw that he was her age and that's suppose to make it 25% easier to make friends around here. Now she would have to

"How about you take a break down in the swimming pool? It'll feel just like the beaches at home. Get dressed in that cute bathing suit of yours. Pool's big enough just for you and I. Enough room to move around if you know what I-"

"You don't pay rent, Flores." Superboy spoke with a scoff," Only residents are allowed to access those."

"Parker, shut your mouth before I shove your foot in there."

Superboy whose name was now Parker nonchantely shrugged his shoulders. Almost as if this was something that had occurred often. It was easy to see that Parker had an upper hand because he was a customer and if John Flores Jr caused his father to lose a customer, it would be the end of him. Knowing Mr. Flores had the anger that lasted as long as a wooden incense.

"And don't give that little stare. One day, Parker, you're going to regret having such a smart mouth."

"You know it would help a lot if you helped me carry these!" A strong voice called from the elevator. Shit, she forgot about Rosie. Y/N rushed to the curly haired red head whose bangs were stuck to her forehead because of the sweat. "Y/L/N, you suck." She heaved through heavy breaths, leaning over the tall box to catch her breath.

Y/N just simply sympathetically smiled. In the corner of her eye, she checked to see her neighbor was still there but all she saw now was an empty hallway and the closed door of apartment 6196.

II. Orientation

What she expected were for bright streamers. Envisioning that set up along the way to entrance were booths to clubs, different sororities and fraternities, and scholarships that students could apply for on the spot.

But it was boringly plain.

From two feet away, all Y/N could see was a small table set with a cardboard sign attached by scotch tape that had a chicken scratch of handwriting that wrote out as... welcome? Shaking her head, she tried to think positively. Never judge a book by it's cover is a saying she's heard countless amount of times and now is the best time to use it.

Trying her best to hide her unimpressed face which wasn't hard with the sun shining down hard on her face, she walked closer to the large crowd of students.

In this crowd of students, there were already small cliches formed. Friends that already knew each other or some people who were sociable enough to make friends in less than 30 minutes. It was hard to insert yourself into something that is already established especially when they send strange glares at you for excitedly raising your hand up to wave at them. Of course, she brushed off the ugly attitudes and moved along to see what else was in store.

Walking down more of the courtyard, she herself on the pavement line to move past the many students, one crowd that stood out to her the most was a group of girls surrounding an area. So naturally she was intrigued because commotion = something entertaining. Gathering herself onto her tiptoes, centered in the middle was a caucasian boy, his hair pushed back with gel with a smirk printed upon his lips. His posture showing that that he held much confidence, maybe even too much.

She's felt like she's seen him before while scrolling through her explore page on Instagram. Something related with the Avengers.

Her eavesdropping confirmed that thought when three students whisper shouting amongst themselves about the male in the front.

"He knew Iron Man?"

"He's basically his kid."

"No way! You think he's going to take over as his replacement?"

"Not after that recent controversy with Spiderman. He was making killer drones."

"Here you go again with your 'Mysterio was right' bullshit."

"I don't know what the hell you are talking about but he's fucking hot."

She leaned forward to ask them what his name was but in her peripheral view, she saw a familiar figure. Superboy! I mean she learned his last name is Parker but what's the fun in that. Not that Parker is a boring name but Superboy just slipped out much more easily. Excitement ran through her veins, turning on the heels of her feet to follow after him.

Once her feet had caught up to his, she clasped his hands on to his shoulders, "Superboy!" Surprisingly, he didn't jump which was kind of creepy because he just looked at her with an eyebrow raised. She rambled on with her hands clasped together, inching closer and closer," I didn't know you go here. What's your major? Mine is social work but I don't feel that good about it. I honestly was going to come in undecided but I already had my GE's done so I just decided to go along with it but then-" She stepped down from her position on the curbside when he realized he was just staring at her," Oh, do you not remember me? I'm your neighbor! The one across the hall. I just moved in last week.".

Like all their previous encounters, Peter had opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted from Y/N taking a look at his papers and letting a very audible loud gasp," Ah ha!"

"So your name is Peter?" She looked back at him through the corner of her eye," Peter Parker went to the park to park his parked car where all the other parked cars were parked but there was no parking for him to pa-"

Peter stood in disbelief, almost impressed before he began his walk again except this time faster, hands tucked into the wide pockets of his jeans.

"Superboy, wait!" Not caring about the stares she received when she put her arm back around his shoulder.

_

"So what are you going here for?"

Peter raised a finger to his lips to shush her before one of the student ambassadors leading them would hear her. He felt a judge in the side of his hip, a mental groan forming in his head and responded swiftly under his breath, "Physics."

"Oh that's so cool. So you like measure how fast things go or something?"

"Yeah, around that area."

"How about this?"

Punching the air in front of Peter's face, causing him to pull his head back before the female punched his head off.

"So?"

Peter shook his head and only focused on what the student in the front had to say about the different buildings surrounding them. Y/N was adamant though, holding her hand out in front of his face again," What about Spiderman? Have you ever just thought of how fast he's going? Do you think he was to like run backwards before swinging for some momentum."

"I don't think Spiderman has time to-" Before Y/N punched the air in front of him again which of course he had enough time to move his head fast enough.

"Am I inteuppting you two? Should I stop?"

At just the sound of the voice, she was already fearing for her life, she looked towards the junior in the front. Though in the same year, she was still fairly intimidated by the more experienced college student. Her red painted lips parted into a smirk, staring at the duo.

Peter struggled underneath her grip because the female had pushed herself behind him in the attempt to hide. Peter nervously shook his head all while moving his hands behind his back to grab at the girl who was moving around to get out of his reach.

"Well now that our attention is else where," her voice sharp and pointed," let's go ahead and begin with our icebreaker activity. So we'll begin with our name, major, age, and something a little interesting about ourselves." Motioning to herself," I'll start it off. My name is Felicia Hardy. My major is criminal justice, I'm 21 and I guess... I'm pretty good at breaking locks." Her laugh coming out as harmonious tune.

Whilst being scared of her, Y/N couldn't help be drawn to the girl's charm. The group had slowly formed into a circle as they introduced themselves one by one. She couldn't help but be in her own world that she didn't notice that everyone was now looking at her, distracted by the birds and greenness of the trees and field. So she quickly ran through the easy questions but stumping on the very last one.

Before a bright idea came to her head.

Reaching out to grasp onto Peter's shoulder who didn't even jump at her touch, with a proud grin," And Peter Parker is my best friend."

Peter almost choked on his spit.

_

"Excuse me." A hefty sigh," Pardon. Yeah, just going to slip through here. Okay. Okay."

Moving onto the concrete bench besides the unsuspecting brunette, she set down her tower of Oreos and crackers. Squishing herself into the somewhat crowd table, she finally settled down when both her arms were able to rest.

Now she could've sat anywhere else.

There was even an empty table right across from her.

But Y/N found herself to be pretty comfortable right besides Peter here.

And she figured he wasn't too bothered because she could feel him angling his body so that she could comfortably sit down without squishing her body together.

"Thanks." She whispered but he only continued to write in his notebook without even glancing up.

In the middle of nibbling on the chocolate cookie, a shadow casted over them. The two looked up to see the boy who could be a famous influencer, smiling down at them with his hands tucked into the jeans of his pockets," Hello, freshman."

For the first time in the past hour, Peter had spoken up,"I'm actually a junior."

"Me too!" Y/N pointed," College credits in high school really helped. I mean I got a few general educations done at my other college but most of my needed GE's were done at-"

"Right, that's amazing. I completely respect that way. Especially since it's the cheaper way. Well, welcome to Empire State University. My name is Harley Keener but you may know me already."

"No, I don't." Grumbles from Peter. Harley nervously scratched the back of his neck,"That's completely normal. But straight to the point, I hope that if any of you has questions, you would come to me and not that heathen over there."

"I heard that, Keener Weiner." Felicia threw a bird at the brunette. While the attention had already drifted away from her, anybody could see her trailing eyes wander down the side frame of Peter's toned body that was obvious even under the sweater and jeans that covered his body. In the middle of it all, Y/N shifted uncomfortably in her seat before forcefully pushing herself to react to the weird nickname. Peter on the other hand was irked.

"Keener Weiner." The giggle that passed through her lips, the elbow of her arm judging Peter on the side. The sudden sound gained Harley's attention, the cocky boy leaning his body weight against the table," Y/N right?" His sultry tone filling the hair," You're pretty cute, sweet cheeks. Can I call you that? Sweetcheeks? I heard you call this guy superboy earlier. Can I get a nickname too?"

"Y/N is fine." She keenly slipped the chopped fruits she didn't want anymore onto Peter's plate while softly smiling up at Harley.

"Okay, Y/N. Cute name all the still." Harley officially sat down but like a seesaw, Peter stood up at the same time. Wordlessly walking away from the crowd with his hands tucked away.

While Harley continued to talk more and more about who knows what, Y/N's attention stayed trained on the boy's back who slipped through the crowded area.

III. Dozen Doughnut Holes

With the frustrating amount of syllabuses along with the ones online, the university life is already hectic. Taking a deep and heavy breath filled with stress, Y/N jumbled up all the papers that were scattered around the round table before settling down on just trying her best to find her textbooks for free online because she wasn't trying to spend a single paycheck on something she isn't going to go to use unless it's final weeks.

"First week?"

With her hair crunched up in her hands, she looked up to a boy who had almost a bowl cut. "Uh yeah."

"Ah, how's that going? I go back next week."

Now she hadn't planned spilling her dreadful week but here she was telling a stranger about why is coffee seven dollars? She found out the stranger's name was Ned and the curly haired girl with bags under her eyes who had just walked in to begin her shift was also his friend. They both go to MIT which was crazy to her because she always felt like that was a college that only existed in movies. Nobody in the west coast was going there.

He pulled out his wallet and showed a photo of both MJ and him in high school at a trip they took to Europe to show her that the two have been friends since forever. Y/N noticed that the picture was angled in a way that seemed like there was suppose to be somebody there on right side of MJ. But she brushed it off and figured it was just the way the person took the picture. Maybe to capture the scenery.

"Wow, you have been best friends for so long? How did you even get so close? Honestly, I kind of struggle with that." Clicking her tongue against the roof of her mouth," And yes, I know, me moving here doesn't help."

"Sometimes you just got to get away." Ned scratched his chin as if he was trying to think," I know we got close to each other due to a mutual... I just don't know who..."

Right as Y/N was about to reassure Ned that it was okay, the bell jingled. Both of their attention looked to see who entered and- it was Peter! Y/N excitedly raised her hand up to wave but Peter made a beeline to the counter to order.

Must be in a hurry. Maybe it'll be an easy conversation starter when she bumps into him later tonight.

"You know him?" Ned used his thumb to point over to Peter. Y/N nodded which Ned returned," He's a pretty cool guy. We see him every-time we come back down from school. Always asks us how we're doing." Taking a bite out of his sprinkled donut," MJ says he comes in everyday but doesn't do much except order a cup of coffee so I guess we're kind of friends but we don't know much about him."

Y/N only stared on. Watching Peter's attitude do a complete 180 towards MJ. He was smiling. Laughing.

"How about you?"

"Huh?"

"How do you know him?"

"Oh, he's just... he's my neighbor."

"Must be a local. I'm honestly surprised I've never seen him before... wait... I take that back. New York is a big big city."

While Ned continued to ramble on about the different areas to visit and possibly the best places to get the infamous pizza they have there, Y/N watched as Peter had reached forward for his coffee. His hands brushing against MJ's and she swore on her very observational skills that she saw his cheeks burn a light pink and his ears a dark red.

It doesn't take much to put two and two together.

"Order for Tee."

Tee was an alias that Y/N came up with me because she didn't want to deal with the awkward moments she would have to repeat herself. But here she found herself in another awkward situation on if she should interrupt this little moment that her neighbor and the girl she just met a week ago who makes a really good macchiato are sharing.

"Order for Tee!" The older woman screamed louder, causing everyone to stare around.

Reluctantly, she walked up to grab her drink and she was going to sue the universe for having the pick up area in the same area as the order. Maybe if she kept her head down, Peter wouldn't even see her. But the inevitable happened when she saw the infrequent expression drop from Peter's face.

Well shit. "Hi."

"Uh right." Peter pulled out a 20 dollar bill and handed it to MJ. "I'll see you around. Keep the change."

And he walked away without another word.

Confused was an understatement.

IV. Mail Buddies

"So I bumped into Felicia the other day when I went into the office to deal with my financial aid. She invited me to a party that the frat is throwing for the beginning of the school year. I was wondering if you wanted to come-"

"I'm okay, thank you though." His eyes trained on getting that piece of mail that was holding on for life to a small crack within the small box.

Nails clinking against the metal of the locker, she hummed a small tune before trying even more to convince him.

"I mean it's a great way to make friends. We've been here for a week and I feel you and I only have each other at the moment."

"I don't really need friends." Peter shrugged," I don't really have time for them."

"Uhm-" Should it be brought up? He didn't even know that she was there? But Y/N knew that yesterday could be contributing to why he doesn't want to go. After all, it didn't hurt to try. "But you seemed sad about those friends from yesterday. I mean they're going away to MIT and moving on, so maybe you could try to as well?"

"How do you know they're going to MIT? Were you eavesdropping on me?"

"I'm not saying to like move on move on. I mean it doesn't take that quick to make new friends. But of course, taking that first step will definitely help a lot. So maybe coming along with me tomorrow will that first step."

Through all her ramble, she didn't notice the vein that was threatening to pop and the clenched jaw from the boy in front of her.

"Listen, you don't know me, understand?" He suddenly snapped, his voice a low tone but his accent thick. His face then softened before letting out a sigh, "I'm sorry for snapping. But this... you and I or me and you thing, it doesn't exist. We aren't friends. We aren't close to friends. So just leave me alone."

Blinking in pure surprise. She hadn't been expecting this kind of attitude at all. She honestly wasn't expecting any type of reaction when it came to Peter so she was completely thrown off by his hostility.

Peter was already walking away when she finally came back to her senses from the loud slap of his mailbox closing.

She wanted to run after him. Ask him why? Why did what she brought up bother him so much? But the line was already crossed and there was no coming back.

V. Pizza Boy

"I brought cookies! They're freshly baked." And that was a promise. She spent till 2 a.m. cooking all 100 of them. Maybe she'd achieve better luck at making friends here if she actually baked the cookies.

Harley took the clear container with a small smile, opening the door wider for Y/N. Now it was unknown if he had actually heard her or not because the music was turned to the max of which the speakers could barely handle.

The Alpha Zeta Phi was located in the middle of the campus between their sister house and competing house. A casual house party was more like a crazy one with how full the area was. She set down the cookies before her hand was swiftly pulled by Felicia, who she had no idea where she came from.

To a much quieter area of the house, she saw many familiar faces. The two girls she saw with Felicia at orientation. Susie and Rachel were twins that seemed to everything together. Towards the other couch sat Harley and another boy she didn't know but the constant shout of Jared as he chugged down his white claw gave her a hint of what it would be.

Felicia slid into the empty spot besides Harley, slipping one or two pieces of popcorn before she eventually sat down. Harley leaned over and held out a red cup to Y/N. His other hand drifting down the exposed skin that her red halter top hadn't covered up but judging by the strong smell that radiated off of it, Y/N pushed it away with a swift shake of her head.

"It's just pineapple juice and vodka."

"Oh, I'm only 20."

She didn't know what was so funny that made the group around her laugh but she played along, even holding her hand over her mouth to play the role.

"Your Peyton friend is pretty cute." Felicity poked Y/N square in her shoulder with her manicured finger. "Where is he now?"

"He's not even cute. Y'all just want the attention of every male." Jared's voice dripping off a tone that reeked jealously as he walked around the room.

Susie and Rachel giggled, their heads tilting in sync to the right. "Yeah, you should have brought him with you."

If Y/N had a pen and a paper, she would pitch this idea to horror movie creators or writers because she felt like she was in one.

"Speaking of Peyton-"

"It's Peter." Y/N cut in with a clear of her throat. She could feel them looking at her but she could only take a gulp of the bubbly drink before Felicity continued," We don't see much of him, do we? Like I've seen him in class once in a while but he's always gone the second the Professor dismisses us."

A bad taste formed in her mouth at the boy being brought up. Not that she felt any ill feeling towards him but more like she still felt guilty for last night.

"Asshole thinks he's better than everyone else." Jared tutted in from his higher position on the arm of the couch besides Harley. She frowned at that accusation. Honestly, she just needed to wash her face under some cold water to calm down. Whilst she did announce to the group that she was going to the bathroom, they didn't seem to care. Still stuck in their own conversation.

And they continued to be even after she returned, a paper towel patting the remaining drips of water. Drifting away from her primary plan, the plan now was to just stay for another 10 minutes before catching an uber to take home. Bracing herself to jump into the uncomfortable situation that she brought herself into, footsteps were halted when she heard her name and Peter's.

"I can't believe Felicia invited that weirdo." Mocking a high pitch voice that was deniably untrue to the true tone, Rachel scoffed," I'm only 20, cut that bullshit out!"

Jared's groggy voice cut in, "I'm just glad that Parker kid didn't tag along. Like come on, I don't know what you all see in him to be thirsting over his ass so much. Who knows how much of a buzzkill he could be? He stands with his shoulders so high like he owns the place. But no one gives a shit who he is or cares who he is. He acts like he could-"

"You don't even know him." Y/N pushed Jared from the back, almost causing him to tip forward.

"Hey, what's your problem?" Jared stood up quickly, standing tall over the girl but unphased, she glared," Peter is a good person. Don't take out your insecurities on him. "

The room had silenced. Their next actions wary on what to do next.

"Insecurties? What the hell are you talking about?"

"Jared." Harley spoke with a pointed tone, but Jared pushed on, poking Y/N square in the shoulder," What insecurities are you going on about?" whilst pronouncing her name in a way that wasn't even close to what it actually was which honestly ticked her off even more.

"I mean it's not his fault that these girls don't find you attractive. Hell they know you and you're not even an inch of what they want."

"Oh, you'd shut your mouth if you know what's best for you." Jared scoffed," Why are you even defending his ass? Didn't you tell Hardy over here that he said no to coming with you? I don't know if you noticed but I guess that just means you're not that cool for him."

"Gosh, you're such a kid. Cool? Who even gives a shit about that anymore? Admit it. You're just jealous that Peter is a way better person that you could ever be even though nobody in this fucking room knows who the hell he is but you, Jacob or Jared or whatever fuck your name is, in the end, you're just a bitch."

She could feel how infuriated he was but he didn't think he'd go as far as to hit her. Which is why her eyes were shut closed as Jared's fist swung back. Preparing herself for the pain that never came, she slitted her eyes open.

With bleary vision, she made out another shape of new being in the room. Their grip strong on Jared's arm. Blinking multiple times, she gasped when she realized who it was.

Embarrassment ran quickly through veins, her cheeks turning hot. Had Peter really heard everything she just said? How more obsessed could she look infant of him?

The room was spinning and faces blurred as she rushed out of the room, hearing Felicia call out her name but she couldn't breathe. She had to get out of there.

With his eyes following her tail, Peter roughly let go of Jared's hand before pulling out a payment terminal from his bag wrapped around his waist," Can I please know whose paying for these pizzas? I was sent up here and this is the only room with people."

"Fuck-" Jared was quick to move to follow the girl out but Peter was quicker when he grabbed the collar of Jared's polo.

"I've got six more orders to do so I'd advise you leave it before you make me lose my tips." Peter held up the terminal again, eyes darting around the room. Soon enough, Harley took the initiative all while mumbling under his breath about spending an afternoon worths of buying snacks just for someone to order more food.

_

Y/N paced back and forth in her living room- actually would this even considered a living room? Her bed was in the same area as where she cooked and ate. So would it be her bedroom? Ah, back to the point, how was she going to approach Peter? Now honestly she was debating if she should even talk to Peter because he honestly hates her and probably hates her even more now.

Okay, you know what? Just leave a note outside his door explaining yesterday's events. No biggie. There's nothing wrong with what you did. You were being a good human and defending somebody but honestly you don't know even know much about the person even to- you know what just go outside and knock on his door to see if he even responds then you can determine if you should even say anything or not.

As she opened her front door, she was surprised to see Peter already standing there, looking down at his feet. His lips parted but curved up as if he was talking to himself and a paper jumbled up in his hands.

"Were you practicing to say something to me?" Y/N teased. Peter shook his head immediately and shoved the paper into his pockets but the crumbled up paper had caused a creased outline where it stayed.

"I don't know what you're talking about." Peter coughed. "So-"

"I'm sorry." Both had mused together, taking a step back in surprise.

"What are you apologizing for?", He asked with genuine confusion. "It's me that should be apologizing. I'm sorry for being such an ass to you these past few weeks. You don't deserve it, no one deserves it."

"Well, it's what I deserve for being so invasive. I'm sorry for coming off so strong-"

"Hey, no. there's nothing wrong with that and you weren't. I-I just... I'm not-" Peter scratched the back of his head. Y/N didn't even push it when he suddenly changed what he was going to say,"You don't need to apologize, you're not doing anything wrong."

"I shouldn't have over stepped the lines and practically tried forcing you to do something that you didn't want to. It's me and I'm just not someone you could be friends with."

"I think you're wrong about that, Superboy," Y/N leaned forward with her ams crossed, " Because you're my best friend."

"You're still onto that?"

"Superboy? Or best friend? Because both are true."

"The friend part-"

"Correction: best friend. Wow so you can claim that you're a Superboy but not my best friend. How pompous of you."

"I take it back. You ruined it all." Peter sighed, backing up from her door. "I take back everything I just said."

Y/N knew it was all jokes, a wide grin tattooed on her face as she watched him maintain a stoic expression back to his door. Peter had opened his door and was about to walk in before Y/N stood up straight from her door, chirping out a, " goodnight!"

It wouldn't be surprising if he had ignored her but at the 1/3 mark from a shut door, Peter peeked around the wooden door, whispering out a," goodnight."

+

It never got easier.

Choosing between the pad see ew that MJ liked from that Thai place near his own old apartment or the sandwiches from Delmar's that he now had to repeat every time he went in because the older man did not know what his usual was anymore, Peter settled on sandwiches.

It never got easier.

Seeing the stone that wrote her name.

The other half of his sandwich sat perched on a small wooden table he had bought from the dollar tree as he took a bite. Dammit, it was cold. With a lot on his mind, it's been harder for him to focus on anything so it wasn't surprising when it took him forever to call for a taxi because they just kept passing.

"Sorry, I haven't been visiting, May."

He reached for the bouquet of white flowers, placing it next to the bread and the other flowers he had brought earlier that week.

"It's getting a bit harder to visit you everyday with how much Mr. Aziz's is working me because I started classes. I'm sure another person can deliver pizzas."

A leaf had fallen from the tree above

"I feel like made a mistake, May."

The leaf lifted from the ground from the hard wind that flew past.

"You see... there's this girl." Peter sighed," I know she had good intentions and I may have snapped at her on accident. But she just reminded me so much of someone."

The leaf joined its friends, all spinning in a circle.

"And I just don't want her to get her involved in all of this. Don't want her to hurt... don't want her to get hurt like that person did." He sighed,"Do you think I should try talking it out with her? Maybe even apologize to her? It wouldn't hurt right?" The wind passed through his flowy locks," Of course you do.". Taking a bite of his sandwich again as the leaves had drifted off into the air.

"I really don't understand why I thought mustard was so good in the past?"

Good Girls Are Bad Girls That Haven’t Been Caught | Luke Patterson

Luke and (Y/N) knew each other since they were kids. They had been neighbors since childhood, so it wasn’t uncommon for them to be playing with each other in their adjoining backyards most days. But time went by and slowly they got older. On his 8th birthday, Luke had gotten a guitar and quickly realised his dream of becoming a rock star. After meeting Alex Mercer and Reggie Peters in middle school, the dream slowly became reality. Sunset Curve was born. (Y/N), on the other hand, took on violin instead.

As time passed, they slowly began to grow apart. One would describe Luke’s style of music and dress as more rock n’ roll grunge. (Y/N), however, looked the total opposite, elegant, poised, which could also be heard through her playing throughout the neighborhood. (Y/N) listened to classical music and took ballet lessons while Luke continued his guitar lessons and went to ice hockey practice. It seemed like after all this time, the two had nothing in common anymore.

Now they were in high school and they barely knew the other existed anymore. The only times Luke saw (Y/N), even though they were still neighbours, was when they ran into each other in the hall or if they just so happened to leave for school at the same time, which these days was very rare. (Y/N) was quite the early riser, and was often already off on her way while Luke was still lying in bed half asleep. Though they had two classes together, they hardly spoke to each other. It was as if their friendship before this had meant nothing.

Sometimes Luke missed the old days. Back then, (Y/N) didn’t seem too different from him. He could still remember them sitting in his treehouse, sharing gummy bears and listening to an old Led Zeppelin album. Now all she ever seemed interested in was studying. But even despite their different paths, they talked to each other from time to time. Their parents, on the other hand, were still very close. Occasionally they met at one of their homes, cooked together, talked about their jobs and even more so about their kids. Luke had learned from his parents that (Y/N) planned to go to Harvard once they graduated. Of course, when they told him that, he couldn’t stop himself from rolling his eyes. He knew his parents wished he had the same or at least similar plans for his life. But Sunset Curve was finally starting to take off. After they played their first gig at a small bar in L. A., more and more bars and clubs were willing to let them perform. Luke had loved rehearsals before, now they were even more fun, especially knowing that they’d get to perform their new songs in front of more people than just Bobby’s parents. Bobby became a part of the band when he moved to L. A. four years after they had formed. With Bobby’s arrival the band not only found a rhythm guitarist, but also a place to rehearse. Before that, they had to rehearse in Reggie’s basement, between boxes and useless junk. Then of course his parents constantly fighting upstairs didn’t make for the best working environment.

Whenever Luke fought with his parents and just needed space to clear his head, there was no better place for him than a small shed in Bobby’s backyard which they had affectionately dubbed their studio. The words from his parents still rang in his ears as he pulled out his bike, guitar case slung over his back.

“Why can’t you be more like (Y/N)?! She has good grades and a bright future at Harvard!” His mother had wailed.

“Being a rockstar is not a realistic goal, it won’t bring you any money or stability” His father tried to convince him.

Every time it was always the same. Luke jumped onto his bike and made his way through the backyard towards the gate, when he stopped in his tracks. In the corner of his eyes he could make out a dark figure, running through the yard next to his. At the end of the driveway, he could make out the lights of a car, shining through the trees and the figure running towards it. When the figure finally came into the light, Luke could finally see who it was. She turned around, taking one last look at the house behind her before she opened the car door and got in before promptly speeding off into the darkness. Who did (Y/N) just leave with?

Luke was tired the next morning. Despite spending the night in the studio, far away from the trouble with his parents, the young guitarist hadn’t slept a wink. His mind was racing with thoughts of (Y/N) and the mysterious person she had left with. During their lunch break at school, he told his band members of the encounter. “Wait, you mean to tell us that (Y/N), the definition of the perfect daughter, snuck out?” Bobby asked in disbelief.

Luke nodded. “Yep, got into a car with someone. Can’t say for certain who it was.” The eyes of the four guys wandered to said girl, who was sitting with her friends at a table not far away from their own.

“I’ll dip into the school gossip and see what I can find out. I’ll deliver the goods.” Alex smirked. And deliver he did at their band practice later that day. “So you know Tori, the girl who sits next to me in chem class and never shuts up? She told me that she heard from one of her friends, who was told by one of his friends that (Y/N) was spotted with Brandon Jones in the back of the library.”

“Brandon Jones?” Luke asked with a raised eyebrow.

Alex nodded “Yeah, the captain of the football team who always drives a really expensive car.”

“How do they even know each other? Isn’t he usually on the brink of suspension?” Reggie asked curiously to which Alex shrugged.

“Well, well, well, seems like your little (Y/N) likes bad boys, Luke.” Bobby laughed, while throwing an arm around Luke’s shoulders.

Luke quickly shrugged it off with a grimace. “She’s not my (Y/N).” He snapped. “It just surprises me that she sneaks out to meet him. That doesn’t sound like her.”

“Yeah, ‘cause you know her so well after barely talking to her for years and only making eyes at her from afar.” Bobby countered.

“I’m not making eyes at her!” The guitarist defended himself much too quickly to be believable. Back in the day when he still was friends with (Y/N), he may have had the tiniest of crushes on her. Luke had to admit that (Y/N) was indeed very beautiful, but he most certainly wasn’t making eyes at her as Bobby had suggested.

A few days passed. Luke sped through the house looking for his jacket so he could get going to band practice, which he was already running late for. “Mom, Dad. I’m going to Bobby’s” He shouted through the house, hoping his parents had heard him. Finally finding his jacket under his bed, he shrugged it on as he made his way through the kitchen.

He was about to open the back door, when his mom appeared behind him. “Don’t you have a french test to study for? (Y/N)’s father told me about it.” Emily looked expectantly at her son, arms crossed over her chest.

Luke rolled his eyes and turned around. “Yeah, that’s why I’m going to Bobby’s. We’re gonna study together.” He lied convincingly.

Emily nodded slowly, a bit skeptical. “(Y/N) studies every night alone and gets good grades. Maybe if you would just concentrate more, you could study alone, too.” Emily suggested. Luke laughed silently. (Y/N) studying every night? That was rich, if only her parents really knew their daughter.

Luke mentally shook his head out. “Sure, but Bobby is better in french than I am. So he can help me. Work smarter not harder, isn’t that what they say?” He shrugged.

Emily looked at him thoughtfully. “You could study with (Y/N). She’s nearly fluent in French now.”

Luke nodded, a slight laugh escaping his lips as he opened the door. “I’ll think about it, alright? Now I really have to go!” He quickly said and made his way outside, slamming the door behind him. He couldn’t be late, after all Sunset Curve was playing another gig tonight. Luke took his bike from its spot against the fence and made his way towards the gate to the front yard when he suddenly saw a figure out of the corner of his eye again. Her hair was flowing in the wind as she quickly made her way through the darkened yard only this time instead of just watching, Luke went after her. Before (Y/N) could reach the car that was waiting for her behind the trees, Luke touched her shoulder. Startled, she let out a yelp of surprise as she spun around. “(Y/N)?”

“L-Luke…hey.” She laughed nervously.

“What are you doing out here?” He asked her confused, he was half expecting her to be up in her room studying like the perfect little princess she was.

(Y/N) clasped at his wrist and pulled him behind the trees, out of the sight of her house. “Don’t you dare tell my parents about this!” She hissed at the guitarist through gritted teeth.

Luke laughed. “What? That their little princess is sneaking out?”

“I’m not a princess!” She angrily countered.

Luke shook his head “Nah, you’re right, you’re clearly the living definition of a goody-two-shoes. Such a good girl, eager to please.”

(Y/N) rolled her eyes “You clearly forget everything you thought about good girls.”

Luke furrowed his brows. “What do you mean?”

Suddenly a voice interrupted both of them “(Y/N) you’re coming?” Brandon Jones, cool as ever with a cigarette poised elegantly between his lips, sat in the car beside them, looking with raised eyebrows at the girl in front of Luke.

(Y/N)’s gaze wandered between the two boys “I gotta go.” She murmured as she opened the car door. But before getting inside she paused and turned to Luke again. “Good girls are bad girls that haven’t been caught.” She winked as she got into the car immediately rolling down the window. “Now be a good boy and just turn around and forget about this encounter, alright?”. With that, she sped off leaving the guitarist standing there dumbfounded. Luke shook his head in disbelief, what had just happened?

When he arrived at Bobby’s, (Y/N) words were still running laps through Luke’s head. He was quick to tell the rhythm guitarist about the encounter. “‘Good girls are bad girls that haven’t been caught’.” Bobby murmured.

Luke nodded. “That’s what she said. Sounds pretty rad don’t you think?” He looked at the other guitarist who nodded in agreement. “Yeah…” Suddenly it was extremely and rather awkwardly quiet. “Do you think that they-” Luke started.

“Are seeing each other?” Bobby finished his friend’s question, the lead guitarist nodding in confirmation. “Would it matter?”

Luke shrugged. “I mean, I just don’t want her to see her being pressured into something she doesn’t want to.”

Bobby laughed quietly. “OR you just don’t want her doing anything with Brandon.”

“Okay, I am definitely not jealous!” Luke countered, shaking his head.

“I never said you were, but now that you mention it…”

“Oh shut up…besides I’ve barely spoken to her in years!”

“But people don’t really change that much!” Bobby countered.

Luke huffed dramatically. “Well she did!”

“I don’t know about that, bro. Sneaking out? Doesn’t really sound like the (Y/N) we know from school.” He paused a moment. “The (Y/N) you knew when you were younger, the one you’ve told me about, that’s her down to the letter.” He shrugged as rose from his spot. “But enough about this. We’ve gotta go pick up Alex and Reggie. Otherwise we’re going to be late!” Luke quickly nodded, grabbing his guitar before following Bobby outside.

The club was completely packed with people. Luke could hear the audience’s chattering from backstage. “This is so cool!” Reggie excitedly said after taking a look through the club. “There are so many people here from school, too!”

Luke took a deep breath. Adrenaline was starting to course through his veins. He could practically hear his heart beating in his chest as the band made their way onto the stage. He blinked a few times as he tried to get used to the spotlights. His gaze drifted down through the crowd in front of them as they quickly set themselves up. Suddenly he stopped. At the back, right next to the bar, there she was standing. Their eyes met and a small smile played around her lips. Luke laughed to himself quietly before taking a step closer to the mic. “We’re Sunset Curve!”

After their gig, Luke made his way through the crowd. Everytime someone patted his shoulder to tell him how good they were, she nodded thankfully but his eyes always stayed fixated on (Y/N). When he finally stood in front of her a giggle left her lips “Good show, Patterson.”

He smirked, leaning against the bar. “Thanks.”

“Just like we imagined when we were kids.” She slightly bumped against his shoulder.

The guitarist felt his heart beat faster at this. Nervously he rubbed the back of his neck. “I guess.”

“So that’s what you’ve been up to all this time…?” She quietly asked, her gaze drifting through the crowd. Luke nodded in reply. “And soon you’re gonna be famous!” She smiled suddenly much more excited.

Luke laughed “I think that’s still a long way off. What about you? What’ve you been up to?” He asked her curiously.

“Oh, you know violin and ballet lessons, the usual. I haven’t told my parents yet that I’m sick of it!” She nonchalantly took a sip from her coke and looked at him.

Luke furrowed his brows, he was genuinely confused. “I thought that’s what you liked? I mean you got your violin around the same time I got my guitar.”

(Y/N) shook her head “I practically begged my parents to get me an electric bass so we could form a band but they got me a violin. Said it would be better for me.”

Luke was surprised at those words. “A band?” He saw (Y/N)’s cheeks taking on a pink shade.

She shrugged. “Like Led Zeppelin.” Suddenly ‘Whole Lotta Love’ started to blast through the speakers of the club. (Y/N) laughed “That’s creepy. Like they’ve been listening to us talk about it.”

But Luke barely listened to her. Instead he had been transported back to 1987. He had just found the old Led Zeppelin EP in one of his dad’s boxes he kept into the attic. He had immediately called (Y/N) to meet him in the treehouse. They had been listening to the songs when suddenly (Y/N) had told him about her best female friend (Y/F/N), who had told her that she had kissed Fynn, a boy from their class. “Like a real kiss? On their lips?” Luke had asked with wide eyes. He, of course, had asked her if she ever had kissed a boy on the lips. (Y/N) had admitted that she had never. In her childish recklessness, or could it be her boldness, she had told him that he was the only one who she would have wanted to kiss. Luke remembered how nervous he had been, when (Y/N) had leaned in, ‘Whole Lotta Love’ playing in the background when their lips touched but for a short second.

Luke looked wide-eyed at the girl in front of him, who didn’t know the memory that was playing in his head at the moment. His gaze fell from her eyes to her lips. Maybe Bobby had been right. Maybe (Y/N) hadn’t really changed that much and maybe he still had those feelings he had for her when he was smaller. He quickly shook his head. He couldn’t have those thoughts. (Y/N) was here with someone else. “So where’s your shadow?” He asked, referring to Brandon. He turned to the bar to order a coke.

She sighed “Having a smoke.”

“Already missing him?” He laughed.

(Y/N) huffed, slightly annoyed. “Yeah, sure.”

“I thought you were a thing?” Luke asked, turning to her again.

(Y/N) furrowed her brows “Who told you that?”

“Nobody. I just thought because you always sneak out to meet him and because you’re here together…?” He shrugged.

(Y/N) laughed. “No, I mean it’s fun to hang out but I would never…I mean…he’s a player and only plays with girls.”

Luke looked at her amused. “So you’re just hanging out with him for the sake of hanging out?” (Y/N) nodded.

“I was just tired of everything. Of my life. It seemed like a good escape, you know? But now…it’s really hard to make it clear to him that nothing will ever happen.”

“Just be careful, alright? I don’t think he’ll let you get off the hook so easy.”

(Y/N) shook her head “Soon he’ll get tired of me and look for someone else.”

“And what about you then?”

(Y/N) took a deep breath and turned to him, something obviously weighing heavily on her mind. “Luke, I-” She started, but before she could finish her sentence they were interrupted as an arm found his way around (Y/N) shoulder.

“I’m back.” Brandon smirked, eying Luke suspiciously.

“Hey Brandon.” Luke smirked, annoyance evident in his gaze, before turning to (Y/N) again. “It was nice catching up, (Y/N). See ya around.” With that he made his way through the crowd, trying to stop himself from thinking about (Y/N).

Days passed. Once again, Luke barely saw (Y/N) apart from their classes. He was sitting in his room, writing down the lyrics to a song that had been stuck in his mind for days, when suddenly the doorbell rang. He ran down the hall of the family’s ranch style home and was met with her beautiful eyes, when he opened the door. “(Y/N)! So good to see you!” Emily greeted with a big smile, appearing behind Luke. “Come on in.” Luke stepped aside to let the girl inside. With a questioning glance, he looked to his mother. “I called (Y/N)’s parents to ask if she could help you in french. I think that would be better than having to go all the way to Bobby’s, right?”

Luke nodded slowly “Uhm, yeah. Sounds good. Uhm, we could go into my room?” He suggested, looking at Emily.

His mother nodded “Yes, but leave the door open. I’ll bring you some snacks.”

Luke nodded in agreement and turned to (Y/N). “Shall we?” (Y/N) nodded in reply and followed him down the hall to his bedroom. “Take a seat, I guess.” He pointed to the chair in front of his desk as he took a seat on the bed. “What are you doing here?”

“Helping you in french.” She laughed.

Luke nodded slowly, a sly, teasing smirk appearing on his face. “And, uh, is Brandon alright with you hanging out with me?”

“Who cares?” (Y/N) rolled her eyes at the mention of his name. “Right after your concert I told him I couldn’t see him anymore.”

Luke furrowed his brows. “Why?”

“As I already told you, at first it was just an escape but…he wanted to do more the entire time and I just didn’t want to…at least not with him.” She laughed.

Luke looked at her, a playful glint in his eye. “Not with him, huh? So someone else has caught your eye then?” he laughed.

(Y/N) shrugged, casting her glance downward. “Maybe. But that won’t happen, so…”

“Why not?”

(Y/N) sighed, nervously keeping her gaze trained to the ground, before looking up at him again. “Luke…you see…I know we haven’t had that much contact over the last few years, but…I wish it was different and I’m sorry. I thought…well I had hoped…“ She paused, inhaling deeply. “Maybe we could start over? Being friends again?” She asked, hope evident in her voice.

Suddenly Luke felt his heartbeat just a tiny bit faster. “Friends?” He croaked, before clearing his throat. “You mean like back in the day?”

(Y/N) nodded. “Yeah, and uhm maybe…” She nervously played with the necklace around her neck. Luke’s eyes drifted to the pendant. It was the necklace he had given her when she had turned seven. Inside it he had put a picture of the both of them. (Y/N) eyes softened when she saw what Luke was looking at. She took the chain from around her neck and slowly took his hand, placing it in his palm. She looked expectantly at it before looking up at him. Luke opened it and found himself looking at his and (Y/N)’s younger selves. In the picture he had his arm slung around her shoulders. Both of them were smiling brightly.

Luke sighed as he smiled at the memory of that day. “I had a little crush on you back then.” He admitted quietly, staring at the toothy grin of her younger version.

“You did?” (Y/N) asked.

He nodded, his eyes never leaving the picture. “I was so sad when we stopped talking, but it…it had just happened, right?”

“I wish it hadn’t…I uh…I had a crush on you, too.” she murmured.

Luke laughed quietly, the pieces of the puzzle slowly falling into place. “So if we want to go back to how it was then…”

“You would have a crush on me?” (Y/N) smiled hopefully.

Luke shrugged. “Maybe I still do.” He felt his cheeks heating up as (Y/N) clasped at his hands.

“Maybe I still have a crush on you, too.”

Luke’s heart felt like it was going to beat out of his chest. His eyes met (Y/N)’s and he couldn’t stop his smile from growing wider if that was even possible. “Just maybe?” He asked cheekily, as he slowly leaned in closer.

“Alright, so definitely.” (Y/N) giggled as their lips connected in a tender kiss.

“Please, you have to come!” Luke whispered into the phone in the kitchen where the landline was. It was already dark inside the house, his parents already having turned in for the night.

“Okay, fine. But you tell my parents that you have a good influence on me the next time they see us.” She laughed through the speaker, before hanging up.

They met behind the trees at the back of their yards. He leaned in to greet her with a short kiss. “I missed you.” He murmured, hiding his face into her neck.

“We just saw each other a few hours ago.” (Y/N) laughed.

“That’s so long ago!” He countered as Luke got onto his bike and looked expectantly at (Y/N), who stood on the tire spokes behind him. “Hold on tight!”

The venue was filled with people dancing and chattering. (Y/N) followed Luke to the side of the stage. “Stay here so you’ll have a good view of the stage and that way I can see you, too.” He said, looking at her with a wide smile.

“Knock ‘Em dead, rockstar!” She beamed at him, leaning in to give him a good-luck kiss.

“Alright, enough of that lovebirds. We gotta go!” Bobby laughed, interrupting the cute moment pushing Luke toward the stage.

Reggie smiled at them. “Look at all the people! It’s gonna be sick!”

Alex shrugged nervously. “I hope they like us…”

(Y/N) smiled at the other band members “You’re gonna rock this, I’m sure of it!” She hugged them and wished them good luck, before the band went onto the stage.

Luke’s gaze immediately fell to his girlfriend, who gave him a thumbs-up. He winked at her before getting closer to the mic. “Hey, we’re Sunset Curve, thank you for having us.” The crowd erupted in cheers. “Thank you.” He laughed “We directly wanna start with a new song. It’s inspired by a person who means the world to me.” His gaze fell to (Y/N) again, who was smiling at him. “It’s called Good Girls/Bad Girls.”

“She said to me ‘Forget what you’ve thought, cause good girls are bad girls that haven’t been caught. So just turn around and forget what you saw, cause good girls are bad girls that haven’t been caught’.”

“Julie please, my parents and I just got into another huge fight about my art and I need moral support.”

“But my dad wants me to watch Carlos and I can’t bail again.”

“Please just get here! I need you, Jules,” Y/N radiated distress and it was clear to all the people in the Claire’s she was currently in.

“Fine, I can call my tía. I’ll be there in an hour, but you owe me an ice cream cone!” Julie said laughing, Julie had been Y/N’s best friend since they met in the seventh grade when they both accidentally wore the same shirt three days in a row and became friends, they often would laugh about it. Y/N told her where to meet and thanked her friend quickly hanging up the phone. She heaved all her shopping bags up and looked around.

“Why am I even in this store?!” She hmphed loudly drawing the attention of the other shoppers once again. She marched out of the store towards the food court where she was meeting Julie. A new store caught her eye and she stopped for a minute debating if she had enough room for more bags. She quickly made her mind up deciding that she could make room, after all, she had her dad’s Platinum Amex and she was not going to waste this opportunity. Y/N walked quickly to the entrance of the quaint book store. She turned into the book store slamming into something, it was just her luck to run into a wall today and I mean why not seeing as the rest of her life was falling to pieces around her. She fell onto her back looking at the ceiling her bags scattered around her.

“Oh my god! I’m so sorry! Are you okay?” A boy came into her sight. He had shaggy brown hair and was wearing a light yellow apron with a name tag. Guess she didn’t run into a wall after all, but again that was just her luck. Her eyes began to water as all the emotion crashed upon her like a tsunami. She gritted her teeth pulling herself together.

“I’m fine,” Y/N looked at his name tag. “Luke.”

“Woah how’d you know my name?” Luke stepped back and Y/N let out a breath of laughter.

“Nametag,” She said as the tears began to pool in her eyes.

“What? Oh my god, why are you crying?” Luke looked at her panicked, he didn’t do the best around crying girls. She held up a thumbs up.

“I said I’m- I’m,” She coughed lightly trying her best to get out the words.

“Here let me help you up,” Luke stuck out his hand to her nervously. She grabbed it and using her other hand tried to wipe the onslaught of tears off her face. Luke kept a hold of her hand pulling her to the back section of the store.

“Um you can stay back here as long as you’d like,” He rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly and accidentally running into the desk behind him knocking a book off the desk he looked at it quickly.

“Here you can read this maybe it’ll make you feel better,” he picked the book up shoving the book into her arms. He ran out of the room quickly.

“Oh? I- Thank you!” Y/N called out into the store. Luke ran back into the room his arms heaving all the girl’s bags.

“How were you carrying this much?” He wheezed dropping the bags by her. She laughed wiping more tears away and smearing her mascara. Luke backed up again.

“I have to get back to work but just leave when you want and if you need anything I’ll be up at the front counter,” he nodded at the girl giving her a thumbs up, and walked out again. She sat at the back of the store composing herself. She picked up the book looking at the title. It was ‘The Outsiders’ and a pretty beaten up copy at that the book was filled up with loose pages, she flipped through it and set it down on the table next to her. She turned to grab her bags. She didn’t notice but the book slipped off the table into one of her bags. She also didn’t notice her journal/ sketchbook drop from her purse as she grabbed everything trying to flee as quickly as she could. She collected the rest going out into the main store and heading to the counter.

“Thanks again for the help,” She leaned on the counter gazing at the boy in front of her.

“No problem, um you can come back anytime, that is if you want to of course no pressure,” Luke stumbled over his words.

“Of course, yeah,” She nodded, but she was not going to come back, not after that humiliating experience. He smiled dopily at her.

“Can’t wait,” he leaned on the counter as well.

“Um yeah,” she felt a twinge of guilt at the totally sweet look he was giving her. Her phone chimed loudly and she pulled it out.

“That would be my cue to leave,” She turned quickly dashing out of the store making her great escape.

“Bye then,” he waved confused. Y/N pulled out her phone checking the text.

‘Where are you? I got here 10 minutes ago.’ - From Julie. Y/N sighed speeding up her strides to get to the food court quicker. She spied Julie sitting at a table in the middle of the court. She made her way through the throng of people and sat down at the table setting her bags down under it.

“What happened?” Julie asked eyeing the girl.

“I had a bit of a break down in a store, but a nice employee helped me out so I’m good,” Y/N laughed quickly.

“Are you okay, your eyes are really puffy. Do you need eye drops?” Julie stuck her hand in her purse and Y/N stopped her laughing again.

“I don’t need anything I’m good I promise, I just want to spend time with my best friend,” Y/N laid her hands down on the table in front of her. Julie rested her hands on top of the girls.

“If it’s any consolation I am supportive of your art,” Julie smiled sweetly. Y/N’s heart melted at the girl’s words, it did mean a lot to her.

“Thanks, Julie, now if you could convince my parents to do the same then that would be a dream come true,” a weak smile crept its way onto Y/N’s face. Julie squeezed her hand.

“How about we go get that ice cream and we can talk a bit and walk around, I think we both need it,” Julie stood up interlocking her hand with Y/N’s and pulling her towards the creamy treat.

-

It’d been a few weeks since the mall incident and things were not getting any easier for Y/N. Fights seemed to be on the daily now and the yelling was beginning to drive the girl insane. So she spent as little time as possible at her house only going over to sleep and do school work, other than that she was at the park painting or reading through the book that had slipped into her bag. She had planned on returning it to the booking clerk after she had read it, but now it had been three weeks and she had yet to. She would have hung out with Julie, but she was busy with her new band and nonstop rehearsals, they were set to debut at a spirit rally at school next week and they needed to be perfect. She still hadn’t met the band, but she had permission from Julie to crash anytime she wanted and she was planning on taking full advantage of this pass soon.

Her favorite pass time though was reading the book though so she had kept it, she loved to just read and look at the little notes and doodles in the margins, it really gave her a view of what was going on in Luke’s head. Although sometimes it was hard to decipher the hieroglyphics that was Luke’s handwriting.

She had discovered that the writings of S.E. Hinton were not the only thing hidden away in the eggshell-colored pages, there were journal entries and songs. She didn’t feel comfortable reading through the entries but she sure did love reading the works of musical genius, Luke’s, songs. They were so well written and heartfelt it helped her understand this boy that she barely knew, this boy so full of passion, feeling, emotions, and kindness.

And that’s where she was now reading a song of loss and regret under the cloudy sky. One that she related to personally, it reminded her of her parents and that even if she was having a hard time with them she would always love them even if they weren’t in the picture.

“If you could only know I never let you go,” she hummed along to the words, and sure she didn’t know the tune the words were initially meant for but she could sure try and make her own melody. But her phone interrupted her startling her out of her own little world within the words. She hurriedly wiped at her tear-stained cheeks and took the device out. It was 4:30, Julie and the Phantoms were at rehearsals right now and this was the perfect opportunity to infiltrate the jam session, so Y/N hopped on her bike and sped towards the Molina residence.

-

Y/N stopped on the cobblestone path leading to the studio loft and set her bike against the stone wall. She could already hear the music drifting from the open window of the studio. She crept to the porcelain white door and stood on her tiptoes looking through the long windows. Y/N could see Julie on the piano and three boys surrounding her. There was a tall lanky one wearing a pink shirt and had a fanny pack slung across his chest, he had blond hair and was on the drum, there was a raven-haired one clad in flannel and leather he was on bass guitar and another one that wasn’t facing Y/N, from what she could see he was a brunet and was wearing jeans and a blue sleeveless hoodie, and he was on a guitar she thought. Julie looked up and jumped a little but she just laughed it off stopping the music and gesturing for Y/N to come inside. Just as Y/N was about to move away from the door the brunet turned around her her heart stopped she could hear all the blood rushing and it was deafening.

It was Luke from the bookstore. Y/N felt herself pale and she quickly hid from view she slid down to sit against the door and the pavement, her eyes darted around looking for a place to hide, any place at all. But before she could move the door gave way and she fell onto her back. Julie had opened the door at the whole band formed a circle around the starfishes girl. Luke broke out into a fit of giggles.

“We have got to stop meeting like this,” he managed to get out through the laughter. Y/N deadpanned and scoffed.

“Tell me about it,” she sighed. Luke came to a stop and offered her a hand. She did not grab the hand though instead opting to roll onto her stomach and push herself up. Luke lowered his hand awkwardly and Alex snickered.

“You two know each other?” Julie asked looking between the pair.

“Kind of,” Y/N shrugged looking at the dopey grinned boy. “We met at the mall a few weeks ago, you remember Julie we had an ice cream cone that day.

Julie nodded and looked at Luke.

“Oh, so this is the guy you stole a book from!” Julie laughed at the panicked face you made. Luke sent Y/N a confused look.

“Oh my god! I’m so sorry I’ve been meaning to return it,” Y/N dug through her backpack and pulled out the book victorious. She handed the book to Luke quickly and added a quick explanation and a sorry.

“Hey it’s okay, you kind of left something too, I had been wondering where it had disappeared to though,” he laughed and snatched Y/N’s journal from his bag handing it to her. Throughout their exchange Julie, Alex, and Reggie just stood awkwardly shuffling their feet.

“Oh! I thought my dad took this... Oh My god wait please tell me you didn’t look,” Y/N paled again. Luke and Y/N stared at each other for a minute silently.

“Um only a little,” Luke looked down to the ground guiltily. Julie coughed and clasped her hands together.

“Why don’t we play something for Y/N while she’s here!” She said sitting down at the piano. The rest of the boys picked up their instruments, Alex sitting at the drums, Reggie standing with his bass next to Alex and the door, and Luke standing next to the piano and the couch. Y/N took a seat on the couch farthest away from Luke, she was feeling a bit awkward.

“So this is Bright,” Julie said to Y/N as well as making the boys aware of what they’d be playing for her. Julie played the first notes on the piano taking a breath and smiling, she was really in her element right now and it showed.

“Sometimes I think I’m falling down. I wanna cry, I’m calling out,” Julie sang out hitting each note with perfection. Y/N got goosebumps on her arms while listening to Julie’s voice, it was really breathtaking.

“For one more try, to feel alive.” The boys still hadn’t played their instruments and Y/N looked at each of them confused. Luke sent her a wink and threw his guitar over his shoulder with finesse. Y/N smiled brightly and gave him thumbs up. She reached into her bag pulling out a paper and a pen. She wrote a 9.5

“What?! I deserve a 10,” Luke frowned strumming a note as Julie sang, “Life is a risk but I will take it, close my eyes, and jump.”

“It’s because you’re a show-off,” Y/N held out the f sound. Luke laughed and threw his head back.

“I’ll you show you what showing off really looks like,” he grinned at her. Just ask he said that Julie sang, “Come on let’s run!”

And that's when the boys hopped into action the music hitting Y/N like a wave. Luke played the guitar his hands moving effortlessly on the frets, he had so much passion in his eyes and Y/N couldn’t tear hers away. Luke looked at her holding her gaze intently.

“Life is a risk but we will take it, close my eyes and jump,” Luke’s voice came out gravely and husky, giving Y/N goosebumps once again. Reggie sang along with him dancing around the middle of the loft. Y/N felt like the breath was knocked out of her, the band was, to put it simply, dazzling. She had so many thoughts for them but she knew she it’d be impossible to tell them how amazing they were in words. Luke walked closer to Y/N kneeling in front of her while still playing his instrument.

“Come on let’s run!” Luke sang to her, the rest of the band along with him. He hit the high note with ease and Y/N breathed in deeply. Luke continued to sing, but he pulled her up quickly and they danced together, it was a mess of rocking together and lots of spinning on Y/N’s part while Luke jumped up and down still having to play. Reggie came in and joined them, and he and Alex shared a look. They all jumped around in a circle and Y/N jumped onto the couch singing along with the chorus.

“Shine together bright forever!” Y/N picked up her water bottle using it as a mic. Luke couldn’t keep his eyes off her, she was electric.

“In times that I doubted myself, I feel like I needed some help,” Luke sang and the only instrument playing was coming from the piano. Luke walked up to the couch below Y/N and they stared at each other.

“Stuck in my head, with nothing left,” Luke sang to her. Julie shot Y/N a look telling her to sing with him.

“And when I feel lost and alone, I know that I can make it home,” Y/N sang nervously fearing she’d mess up the words, but Luke just smiled at her and Y/N instantly felt at ease. Y/N looked away from Luke for a minute nodding at Julie and they sang together.

“Fight through the dark, and find the spark!!” Julie raising her voice and held out the note. Luke still couldn’t pull his gaze away and he lifted Y/N off the couch spinning her and making her squeal, she was set on the ground and she started dancing again.

“We will fight to shine together! Bright forever!” They all sang out and the song ended. Y/N laughed with glee and jumped up and down.

“You guys are amazing!” She smiled at Alex and hit Reggie’s shoulder, feeling at home with the guys already, even if they only met a few minutes ago.

“I’m gonna run inside the house and grab some snacks and we can hang out!” Luke ran to the door and exited. Y/N laughed, he didn’t even ask if she was free, she was but still. She enveloped Julie in a hug and they laughed together. Y/N’s phone rang in her pocket and she pulled it out and looked at the screen, her mom was calling. A deep frown set into her face and she clutched the phone.

“I’m gonna take this,” She said and made her way out sitting against the stone wall and taking a deep breath trying to prepare herself. She hit the answer button and held the phone to her ear.

“Hello?” She whispered.

“Y/N Y/L/N, you need to get home right now, you have been gone long enough. Get over yourself, you will not become an artist and you will do what we say we are your parents,” Y/N’s mom and dad said, not even letting Y/N get a word in. She breathed in deeply and shut her eyes tight willing herself not to cry.

“Mom, Dad, I’m not coming home,” Y/N got out her voice faltering. Her dad scoffed.

“Don’t be ridiculous you will come home immediately,” Her mom sighed. Y/N shook her head even though her parents couldn’t see.

“I’m not coming home not again and not ever, not until you support me,” she almost lost herself there but she shut her eyes again keeping the tears at bay, she wouldn’t cry for something she needed to do.

“I’m gonna be staying somewhere else from now on, I’ve already got all the stuff that I need and you won’t see me again until I prove you wrong.”

“People will like my art and even if they don’t I like my art and it’s what I’m passionate about and I won’t stop, I won’t give up, I can’t,” Y/N hung up the phone not even giving them a chance to respond, she clicked into her settings turning off her location and stuck her phone next to her. She brought her knees to her chest and she breathed deeply, she heard someone taking a seat next to her, she didn’t look assuming it was Julie.

“I know what it’s like,” Luke laid his head against the wall and put his hands at his sides. Y/N’s head shoots towards Luke.

“It’s you! I thought you were Julie,” Y/N said. Luke started to get up.

“I’m so sorry I’ll go,” he stood up all the way. Y/N grabbed his hand and pull him back down they were now sitting shoulder to shoulder and looking at each other. Y/N breathed in deeply again the tears finally going away.

“Stay.”

“I didn’t mean to eavesdrop drop, by the way,” Luke laid his hand on top of her hesitantly. She laughed shaking her head.

“It’s okay, can you tell me about it?” She asked him referring to what he said earlier. He nodded slowly trying to articulate what he was thinking.

“Okay, but bear with me I’m gonna start at the beginning,” he stated and Y/N intertwined their finger hoping to make him more comfortable.

“My mom and dad bought me my first guitar when I was about 8,” he started squeezing her hand.

“When you said beginning I didn’t think it’d be beginning, beginning,” she laughed. He sent her an annoyed look and she giggled laying her head on his shoulder.

“They didn’t get me into lessons but my neighbor ended up teaching me, I knew immediately that music was what I wanted to do and my parents didn’t quite feel the same but they let me continue playing regardless, but then I started a band called Sunset Curve when I was fifteen, that’s when they tried to take my guitar away,” he deflated slightly and Y/N nestled into him a bit more.

“Of course I hid it where we were practicing and didn’t tell them where, but the fights got so bad that I ran away, on Christmas Eve.”

“Now I’m staying here, but I get how it feels to not be supported by the ones who matter most, so if you need someone who knows what you’re going through you can come to me if you want,” he said facing her as she took her head off his shoulder. They were centimeters apart at this point, they were practically breathing in each other’s air.

“You’re staying at Julie’s?” She asked their noses almost touching.

“Yeah in the loft with Alex, he’s not living at home either, his parents weren’t cool after he came out to them,” he said sadly his eyes fluttering shut. She studied his face, he had freckles that you could only see close up, and there was a small scar just on the bridge of his nose.

“It’s cool that you guys have each other,” Y/N interlocked both their hands.

“You could have us too,” he whispered. “If you want us.”

“I’d really like that I think,” she moved in closer, her lips ghosting over his as he whispered, “I’m glad you want me, us.” They knew each other better than anyone, sure they hadn’t been together long but they’d seen into each other's world through music and writing and art, they saw the most intimate parts of each other. A crash from the garage and Alex fell through the crack in the door and he shot up looking like a deer in headlights. Luke and Y/N jumped away from each other and Y/N hit her bike knocking it over and the contents of her other bag on it spilled out, a mess of clothes and tampons came out and Luke looked horrified. His eyes fell upon a single bra and he stumbled back covering his eyes. Alex ran back into the studio slamming the door behind him. Y/N quickly scooped up her stuff putting it back into her bag making sure to zip it up this time. Luke still was on the ground covering his eyes.

“You can look now,” Y/N let out an airy laugh. Luke shook his head.

“I’m too embarrassed,” he sat up still covering his eyes. Y/N scooted over to him so that she was sitting in front of him on her knees, she brought her hands up to his slowly moving them away. She and Luke looking into one another’s eyes for the millionth time that night. She slowly tore her gaze away and stood up.

“I should probably go find a hotel to stay at,” she whispered picking up her bike. Luke jumped up grabbing her wrist.

“You can stay here! I mean if it’s okay with Julie, we’ll have to ask,” he said holding onto her hands and grinning at her.

“It’s okay with me!” They heard Julie’s voice from inside the studio. Y/N laughed pulling Luke into a tender hug, he didn’t hesitate to wrap his arms around her hips. She rested her head in the crook of his neck and whispered, “Thank you for everything Luke.”

“You’re welcome,” he kissed the top of her head lightly pulling her in tighter. Drops of rain began to dribble into them until it was a downpour. Luke tried to pull her inside but Y/N pulled him back and they spun together in the rain. Y/N let out a joyful and bubbly laugh that had Luke laughing along with her.

“Sing to me music man,” Y/N spun Luke around and dipped him. He grinned at her and began to sing.

“You’re just too good to be true,” they spun together again.

“Can’t take my eyes off of you, you’d be like heaven to touch, I wanna hold you so much,” Luke spun Y/N in and they rocked together. Y/N slid her arms up around Luke’s shoulders and they smiled at each other.

“At long last has arrived and I thank God I’m alive,” he smiled to himself at the line. Y/N spun away and jumped in the rain and a puddle of water exploded under her baby blue converse.

“You’re just too good to be true, Can’t take my eyes off of you,” and the lyrics were true for Luke he could pull his gaze from the magnetic girl in front of him. She held out her hand and Luke grasped it as she spun in her back hitting Luke’s chest. Luke sang more to her and he was almost to the chorus now.

“There are no words left to speak. But if you feel what I feel, please let me know that it’s real.”

“You’re just too good to be true, can’t take my eyes off of you,” Luke hummed and Y/N got ready to sing the chorus with him.

“I love you, baby!” They both sang out at the top of their lungs.

“And if it’s quite alright, I need you baby! To warm a lonely night!” Y/N sang out Luke practically had heart eyes. This wasn’t like before in the studio during Bright, Y/N wasn’t hesitant at all she had the aura of a thousand burning stars and the confidence to show it.

“I love you, baby! Trust in me when I sayyy!” Y/N sang again and Luke continued this time.

“Oh, pretty baby! Don’t bring me down I pray,” Luke spun down onto his knees and held his hands out to Y/N.

“Oh, pretty baby, now that I found you, stay! And let me love you, baby!” Luke sang pulling Y/N in they were once again close, chest to chest the rain streaming down their faces and their foreheads pressed together.

“Let me love you,” Luke sang in a whisper. Y/N hooked her arms around his neck and their lips were close, but not close enough to connect.

“You’re just too good to be true...” He closed in, their lips connecting for half a second but once again they were interrupted by a car beeping from in front of the house. Y/N pulled away quickly and tucked a lock of hair behind her ear.

“That’s probably Julie’s dad with the pizza,” Luke said sadly knocking on the white door for the rest of the teens to come out.

“That was quite the show you two put on,” Reggie said as they came out. Y/N blushed which is something she didn’t normally didn't do so you knew she was very embarrassed.

“Shut up, dude,” Luke punched Reggie’s shoulder. They all began walking to the house, the rest of the teens holding umbrellas but Luke and Y/N were still exposed to the weather. They lagged behind a bit and Y/N took Luke’s hand into hers. They got to the door and they were the only ones out there. The rain pitter-pattered against the covering of the porch. Y/N and Luke faced each other and Y/N smiled at him.

“Thanks again for everything, Luke.”

“It’s my pleasure,” Luke stepped up to her.

“How did you know that was my favorite song?” She grinned at him.

“I have my ways, star,” he cooed and Y/N smiled at the nickname. She stood on her toes and pecked him on the cheek and she dashed inside. Luke stood there alone and touched his cheek softly and grinned, she’d be the death of him, but he was ready to do anything for her. He was falling, and falling hard for that matter.

glass house.

pairings. stepbro!jason todd x fem!reader

about. jason never thought much about you until the two of you bumped into each other on a night that was a product of sneaking out

Glass House.

warnings. swearing, stepcest but fr, underage drinking

ricky rocks. hm

jason was never someone you had ever considered to be close with until the two of you had accidentally caught one another sneaking out of the house at the same time.

before that, if you were ever asked who your favorite brother was, you probably would have said dick; which was understandable. he was your big brother, a role model and everyone knew without a doubt dick was a charmer. he had a natural appeal to him that just drew your attention to him. it was no secret and to say the least, it had jason jealous. he really never was one to care, especially of you, but when his body had slammed into yours on that late friday night at around one in the morning; everything flipped into a world he was unfamiliar of.

he became more aware of you. it was as if you really hadn’t ever existed in his world due to you sticking to your own and him doing the same. hell, he wouldn’t have had a relationship with dick if it weren’t for patrol, and that was kind of out of question for the two of you due you not sharing the same interest in jumping off roofs and kicking bad-guys asses as he did. which he didn’t understand; upon closer examination, jason came to the conclusion you would probably have no problem out on the streets from how physically fit you were and the amount of time you had caused tim and dick to fall on their asses in combat.

he only could come to the conclusion that you were scared, but like him, you put up a front that was hard for anyone to see through. that wasn’t the only thing so similar about the two of you, and that’s what killed him.

“come here often?” he heard your pained, yet silent laugh fill the cold night air after the two of you had both came to realization of who each of you had knocked to the ground- well more or so you since the sound of your voice came out as unfamiliar to his ears until the moonlight highlight your face when you came closer to him, helping him to his feet.

he scoffed a little, recovering, “more than i like.” he was referring to the fact that you both were just barely hanging on to the slanted roof; always finding this the most difficult part of sneaking out.

you laughed a little back, “you and me both,” before continuing on with your escape route.

he almost caught himself dumbfounded, watching your figure easily maneuver down the gutter pipe making it obvious this was far from your first time sneaking out of wayne manor.

the next time jason had seen you was the morning after; with your school uniform neatly and tightly wrung around your body, drinking the glass of orange juice alfred had just poured you.

there was no sign of last nights mess on your body.

“good morning, children,” bruce had entered the kitchen, slapping his newspaper on the island counter before making his way towards the coffee pot, pressing a kiss on the back of your head within the process.

it made jason smirk to himself. out of all bruce’s adoptive children, you were definitely bruce’s favorite. you made dick look like a fool with the amount of academic awards and pictures of you bruce had hung up in his study, all correlating to you and only you. there was no doubt you were a daddy’s girl and bruce’s little princess.

but at night, it seemed you were almost as low as jason was with sneaking out to god knows where in the middle of the night, only to come home in the earlier hours of the morning to put back up the facade your adoptive father loved so much.

jason couldn’t suppress a laugh as he drunk from his own glass of orange juice, causing you to look up at him. you shook your head but couldn’t help but smile at him.

“are you alright, master todd?”

jason nodded, wiping the corner of his mouth as he straightened back up into his full posture, “just thought of something dick said earlier.. made me laugh.” he tried his best to play it off but timing wasn’t his friend for dick walked in.

“what’d i say earlier?”

“yeah, dick almost never says something funny,” you snickered causing dick light heartily glaring at you as he pulled a strand of your hair lightly.

jason coughed, “m’ don’t remember.”

you narrowed your brows as they all did before mouthing ‘nice save’.

°•

he knew your laugh. he learned it well and he learned it quickly— recently. he couldn’t miss it, not even in the crowded underground bar gotham’s grunge and grime hid. he almost thought he was delusional with seeing nothing but blurry faces with how fast his head shot up; but none of those faces were yours.

you knew jason was there. it wasn’t hard to miss his tall, muscular, brooding figure the moment he walked through the door alone even though he looked as if he didn’t want to be noticed with his black attire. it made you smile into your beer as your eyes couldn’t help but follow him as he walked swiftly toward the back of the crowded bar, hands stuffed in his jacket pockets.

it took awhile and you were surprised he didn’t see you sooner as you glided through the crowd to the small booth he sat at in the corner; cradling a glass of whiskey. you held down your smile, thinking of how much bruce and jason were alike— even if jason didn’t want to realize it.

“i want to show you something.”

he looked up at you, almost looking relieved, but frowned to cover any sign of lightness drawn into his face as he looked down at his drink before back up to you. your expression was unimpressionable as he attempted to examine what was going through your head, but your visage was blank and your mannerism was still until you smiled and turned away.

you were like a stranger. everything about you impenetrable, but that was only because his mind was in a haze. something not normal for jason. he was lost in a fog, in a chase after you and you called to him leading him further into obscurity… and onto a roof.

the gotham wind was hard and damp with the taste of rain hidden deep within it. the sky was as dark as it always was and nothing else… just dark with factory smoke and tall buildings covering the stars. you were always so grateful that wayne manor was planted so far from the city that not even the pollution could cover the bright stars.

but sometimes the dark was nice.

“you always drink alone?” you looked back at him over your shoulder with a sly look, your hair swirling around your head, his mind going crazy, not being able to focus straight with you right in front of him. “you know you could do that home, for free.”

jason smiled a little, brushing his knuckle against his nose. he looked to the sky with the tilt of his head and he could suddenly only hear wind with his eyes put closed and mind suddenly desolated. you watched him for a moment, it was strange and you almost wondered if the right person followed you onto the rooftop because jason never had peaceful tendencies.

was he drunk?

“hey,” he was knocked to reality as you lightly held his forearm, smiling, almost concerned, “c’mere.” you tilted your head in the direction of the edge of the roof, still holding his forearm before slid down to his hand.

you lead him right to the edge where a lining of brick railing kept the two of you from falling to your death since the both of you were practically leaning all the way up onto rail, just asking to die.

he watched you search for something as you were practically pushed up in your tiptoes. he could see it in your eyes how desperate you were with how wide your eyes were and how you gripped his wrist know instead of his head, almost if that was giving you an advantage to sight.

“there it is,” you smiled, relaxing as you were now flat on your feet and you let go of his wrist, “look right there.” you now extended out your arm, pointing to the left of the two of you.

now jason had to be blind or just plain obvious because you were sure that where you were pointing was clear and what you were pointing at was hard to miss.

“what are we looking at,” he narrowed his brows as he adjusted himself quickly, attempting to see what you were seeing.

“jason,” you deadpanned, looking at the side of his face as he continued to look. you exhaled, shaking your head before dropping your palm flat, “give me your hand.” he looked to you, raising a brow before slowly placing his hand in yours. you made his hand into a fist before pulling out his pointer finger, “now follow your finger, jay.”

you moved it to the building, the big glass building on one of the many hills in the background of the city. it was clear like ice, it wasn’t hard to spot, not if you had observant eyes. but right now jason’s eyes seemed to be clouded and the only thing he really wanted to look at was you.

“you see it now?”

he didn’t answer, but you could tell he hadn’t.

you got frustrated with him fast as you still held his hand pointing in some random direction, but now you grasped the side of his face with your right hand after planting yourself close and in front of him. there was little to no space between your back and his chest where you were now pushing the side of his head toward where you were looking and maneuvering his arm better so he was pointing where you wanted him to see.

“look along the hillside, close one of your eyes if it helps.”

he couldn’t even breathe. the smell of your shampoo and perfume was overwhelming. he could no longer feel the wind with the warmth of your body replicating on his, let alone could he hear it; it was only his heart beat and your breathing.

he tried hard, now looking where you were wanting him to look and he saw it. he didn’t know how he missed it but he also saw nothing special about it. it was only glass, and he didn’t get the point of it; everyone could see in if they wanted and the only reason the glass wasn’t shattered was because of how far it was up on the hill side. because that was the thing, everything clear and pure was to be broken in good ole’ gotham.

“i always wonder… about what goes on inside,” you whisper, you body relaxing and pressing even closer to his warm body.

“does it matter?”

you hummed, “maybe not,” you tilted away from him, hoisting your leg on top of the railing so that you were now adjusting yourself to stand at a higher ground. “but i still think it’s nice.”

jason stared up at you with his brows furrowed.

“it’s something to think about.”

you begun to walk, your arms outstretched on either sides of you, carefully placing one foot in front of the other.

“y/n,” jason watched you, his steps following yours, now on edge with how careless you seemed to be. he didn’t realize till now how tipsy you must be, otherwise he swore you wouldn’t have been getting so close to the edge in your right mind.

“relax, todd, i won’t go jumping on you,” you took his hand once he reached it out for you, hoping to pull you down, but you still trudged back and forth with a trip in your walk, increasing his anxiety. “you need to relax, you’re always so fucking uptight and quiet and you don’t say anything and-and-”

your foot slipped sending the weight of your body to the edge more quickly than you could process. you felt your whole stomach flip upside down once there was no stable ground beneath you and gravity ate you whole. and if it weren’t for jason, your body would have been a little puddle on the busy streets of gotham.

“fuck, fuck, fuck,” you had him pulled up on the railing, reaching over and desperately making sure he still had ahold of you. he felt he had been struck; his adrenaline pumping and he suddenly became hyper aware of everything that was going on just between the two of you. he could see the shock in your eyes and how they were quickly swelling into fear. he could hear your breathing- he was surprised you were breathing- but it was quick and shaky and you were scared. “y/n, hold on for me, don’t let go.”

your eyes were wide and they burned as the last thing on your mind was letting go. you were more concerned he’d be the one to let go of your body due to it practically flailing around; desperate, horrified. you could only hear your heart, and then the cars below, and then just barely jason’s panicked voice.

“give me your other hand,” he reached, “look at me, give me your other hand, y/n/n-”

“jason-”

“you’re going to be okay, just give me your other fucking hand.”

you tried to control your breathing, everything felt numb but the burning feeling of jason’s skin squeezing around yours. you almost swore you didn’t have another arm- but you swung your loose arm around before slapping it into jason’s other grip. he let out a breath of relief, now hoisting you up quickly till you were on the roof safely and pressed against him.

his arm was strung around your waist while the other clutch your head almost cradling it as you hugged yourself to him tightly. he shook his head resisting the urge to scold your dumbass. jason no longer felt drunk off bliss of your presences but rather like he had been punched in the stomach with a reality check. he felt winded even as you were completely fine now, clutching his body like a cat.

“surprised you’re not roof top climbing tonight.”

you froze at the sound of his voice, slight tipping your head in a wincing motion. you knew this moment would come, even if jason and you weren’t close, there still was going to be moment where you’d run into each other, and this was it. jason was spread out on the living room couch with a book in his hand, his eyes still on the paperback but his attention on you; waiting.

it was 11:30 pm and you were still winded from two nights ago. mostly because you were embarrassed and you couldn’t get through a dinner without your cheeks going red in clear remembrance of foolishly climbing onto a thin railing and falling.. and so many other things that probably shouldn’t have been executed with your stepbrother.

“uh, i think i’m probably going to refrain from climbing anything taller than six feet,” you scratched your neck nervously as you glanced at him. he snorted, extending his arm behind his head causing his bicep to flex.. fuck. “what?”

“how’re you gonna see your glass house?”

you’re lips unintentionally lifted and now walked closer to where jason was so comfortably laid out. he now looked up to you, placing his book aside. you sat in the large leather chair across with him, no longer feeling embarrassment.

“maybe when i don’t get drunk after two shots, i can trust myself again,” you shrugged and there was a ghost of a smile on his face. “unless you’re willing to catch me again.”

it was a joke, but you could tell he was pondering it by the way his eyes diverted from yours for just a second and pressed his knuckle against his top lip. his eyes reached yours once again, and he didn’t try to hide his smile this time, “anything for you, doll.”

"How do you write such realistic dialogue-" I TALK TO MYSELF. I TALK TO MYSELF AND I PRETEND I AM THE ONE SAYING THE LINE. LIKE SANITY IS SLOWLY SLIPPING FROM BETWEEN MY FINGERS WITH EVERY MEASLY WORD THEY TYPE OUT. THAT IS HOW.
