Is This The Song Of Ice And Fire?

Is this the song of ice and fire?

Here’s the thing, this is not a meta to defend or criticize anyone.

I am just a fan who loves theories and has been puzzled by this ever since I started reading the books again, and noticed a few things that puzzled me even harder than the first time I read it.

In the books there is a character we do not have in the show, one I believe is very important to understand the prophecy of the Prince That Was Promised: The Ghost of High Heart.

What actually happened to change Rhaegar Targaryen, from the book nerd he was to become such a fine warrior? How did he find out about the prophecy? Why did he dedicate his life to it?

Is This The Song Of Ice And Fire?

One can say he found out about it by reading, since he loved reading so much, but did he? Using my knowledge from previous histories such as Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and many others, prophecies are strong things but never really certain. Or, looking at it from a different point of view, the prophecy was always right, but he who say it or reproduced it, did not know the right way to interpret it.

Melisandre thought Stannis was Azhor Ahai reborn. Kinvara thinks it’s Daenerys, and after all mayhem the Red Witch created, she starts to believe it is Jon Snow. At some point, we are made to believe it can be both Jon Snow AND Daenerys Targaryen.

What does this have to do with Rhaegar?

Rhaegar was born during the Tragedy at Summerhall, Arstan Whitebeard tells Daenerys he always had a melancholy vibe to him, for he was “born in grief”.

Is This The Song Of Ice And Fire?

King Aegon V tried to hatch seven dragon eggs at Summerhall, and that caused the death of many from his House, the burning of one of the Targaryen Castles and the birth of Rhaegar. Amongst the dead are alleged to be: Prince Duncan and his wife Jenny of Oldstones, her beloved friend, the Woods witch.

THIS WOODS WITCH is important, keep her in mind.

She was an albino woman, said to be a descendent from the Children of The Forest, very good friends with Prince Duncan’s wife. She prophesized that The Prince That Was Promised would be born from the descending line of Aerys II and Rhaella Targaryen.

After the Tragedy, they all assume she’s dead, same as everyone. But then later in the history, we get to meet a character, also not in the show, but very mysterious and interesting, known as ‘The Ghost of High Heart’.

Is This The Song Of Ice And Fire?

She lives in Harrenhal, and she is called a Ghost for she is an albino with red eyes, but she is believed to be alive. She is also a dwarf, tiny and very old; EVEN OLDER THAN OLD NAN, everyone. If she, like I believe, the same person as Jenny’s Woods Witch, to be a dwarf would make sense with her descendence from the Children of The Forest; Red eyes from the fire from Summerhall, or even the same descendence, for Leaf says ever rarely they were born with red eyes; and she as albina as the previous woman was. Oh, being described as such an old woman also fits the role, Rhaegar was born at the day of the Tragedy, Rhaegar was 24 when he died, and the history starts what? 14 years after the Rebellion? So, we see her at least 38 years after the Tragedy, plus she was already old at the time…Ohhhh, not to forget the main thing about her: whenever she is asked a prophecy, she demands a song. Which one? Jenny’s Song.

Is This The Song Of Ice And Fire?

THAT’S WHERE RHAEGAR COMES IN.

Rhaegar was said to go to the ruins of Summerhall a lot, to play his harp and to be alone with his thoughts and books. It would make sense for him to meet her there, would it not? It would make sense for him, the known musician and singer, to write a song. Jenny’s Song?

The point here is, if they are the same person, he had the person who gave the prophecy of the promised prince at his disposal to talk and befriend, whenever he visited Summerhall’s ruins. He could ask her all he needed, find out all he had to. But broken hearted for losing her Jenny, perhaps she asked something in return? Perhaps a song?

Is This The Song Of Ice And Fire?

We do not know the full lyrics of the song, but what we know is:

“High in the halls of the kings who are gone, Jenny would dance with her ghosts.” — Jenny’s Song

This is the only known lyrics, for some reason GEORGE DOESN’T GIVE US ANYTHING ELSE ON THIS SONG THAT IS SO IMPORTANT TO THIS WITCH THAT GIVES AWAY SO MANY PROPHECIES (I can make a post on the prophecies the witch gives that we know come true, such as Balon’s death and more).

We do get affirmation of her grieving Summerhall, through her conversation with Arya Stark:

The dwarf woman studied her with dim red eyes. “I see you,” she whispered. “I see you, wolf child. Blood child. I thought it was the lord who smelled of death . . .” She began to sob, her little body shaking. “You are cruel to come to my hill, cruel. I gorged on grief at Summerhall, I need none of yours. Begone from here, dark heart. Begone!” — ARYA VII, A STORM OF SWORDS

She would have been the perfect source of prophecy for The Prince of Dragonstone to go to, when needing answers, would she not?

Rhaegar exchanged letters with Maester Aemon, discussed theories and all we know is that at some point in his life, he believed himself to be said Prince. But then, he started believing he was mistaken, that such Prince would come from his line and that he had to have three children.

Dany had a vision of him and Elia, speaking of Aegon, their second child, and how he was PROMISED, and he ALREADY HAD A SONG:

“Viserys, was her first thought the next time she paused, but a second glance told her otherwise. The man had her brother’s hair, but he was taller, and his eyes were a dark indigo rather than lilac. “Aegon,” he said to a woman nursing a newborn babe in a great wooden bed. “What better name for a king?” “Will you make a song for him?” the woman asked. “He has a song,” the man replied. “He is the prince that was promised, and his is the song of ice and fire.” He looked up when he said it and his eyes met Dany’s, and it seemed as if he saw her standing there beyond the door. “There must be one more,” he said, though whether he was speaking to her or the woman in the bed she could not say. “The dragon has three heads.” He went to the window seat, picked up a harp, and ran his fingers lightly over its silvery strings. Sweet sadness filled the room as man and wife and babe faded like the morning mist, only the music lingering behind to speed her on her way.” — Daenerys, ACOK

As the Crown Prince and Heir to the Seven Kingdoms, would it not be expected for his father to write him a song? A song of his own? But as the Prince the was Promised, he had it written: A Song of Ice and Fire. We do not know what is pointed to Rhaegar about him needing another child and Aegon not being the Promised One, but perhaps him not being the son of Ice and Fire? Perhaps someone told him that? Or perhaps he did not know Aegon was not the Promised one, he just knew he needed the Third Head of The Dragon, as Dany’s vision showed.

My point here is, what if the reason we do not get to hear the rest of the song, is because it matters too much? It says too much? What if the Ghost of Hight Heart is actually Jenny’s Woods Witch, and she was the reason Rhaegar changed his mind about himself and his future? He was said to be melancholic, because of his grieving birth. But they also affirm how he loved Summerhall best of all places.

Is This The Song Of Ice And Fire?

(not my art, I’d love to know who did it to give proper credit!)

Viserys had spoken of Rhaegar’s birth only once. Perhaps the tale saddened him too much. “It was the shadow of Summerhall that haunted him, was it not?”

“Yes. And yet Summerhall was the place the Prince loved best. He would go there from time to time, with only his harp for company.” — DAENERYS IV, A STORM OF SWORDS

Does it not sound like there must have a reason for him to keep going there? You would not keep coming back to your birth place, where you also lost so many relatives, without a reason, would you? But you would if you had a witch to give you so many answers and help you stop the end of the world.

So? What do you think? Am I crazy? Am I reading too much into this? Am I reading too much ASOIAF? This just kept coming to my mind and I JUST NEED TO KNOW THE REST OF THE LYRICS OF THIS SONG, MARTIN! TELL MEEEEE! Whatever is unsaid always sounds important! Anywaaaaay…sorry about that. haha

Desirable Business Chapter 7 - Read Here

“I know somewhere nice,” Daenerys says as she stands up. She corrects her dress. Her demeanor has changed - she seems nervous. “It’s in Brooklyn.”

“I can drive us,” Jon says and shrugs, “it doesn’t matter.”

Daenerys peers into Jon’s eyes. “It’s my place,” she clarifies.

Jon feels the noise around them disappear. As he stares at her, he holds onto the albums more tightly. If he lets go, he thinks, he’ll fall with them to the floor. “Your place?” he repeats, quietly.

Daenerys bites her lower lip. “I can make coffee,” she says, “I can make something stronger too.” And her hands push forward, brushing his tie in a familiar manner.

Actually they have a point. I would have drown the line for tragic, because that is way too specific and may be a part of the genre in itself (RIP GOT). But pretty much everything else, yeah...

A list of things that GoT, Endgame, and TRoS have taught me:

-Satisfy the plot; if you set something up a certain way, don't just decide to deviate from it for no reason. As a creator I have a duty to satisfy the story, and also the audience. I want the audience finishing my story and going "Yes, that's the end." And be able to sigh, think for a moment, and feel satisfied. Not feel like their time was wasted.

-Answer the Questions; I might not be able to answer every question, but I can answer the points that need a solution. I can at least make it have a logical conclusion.

-Don't Kill a Character for Depth; Characters can die, but a character death should not be the substitute for emotional depth. There should be a reason for the death.

- Don't Unexpectedly Kill a Character; kind of a second part to the one above. Especially when it comes to main characters, just suddenly having them die when there was no reason for them to? Just so you can shock people? You should know the ending of your characters from the beginning of the journey. If you don't know their ending, then you can't truly bring justice to the character.

- Stop Being So Fucking Tragic; Look, sometimes tragic stories are beautiful, but I personally think they should mostly stay in the historical and indie genres. Not science fiction and fantasy. Some tragedy is good, but why the does THE END have to also be tragic? I go to movies and read books to ESCAPE tragedy and heartache. Yes there's a little through the journey, but the end is always worth it. Don't say your film/show is hopeful, or fun, or even bittersweet and not deliver. Say it with me now: A main character surviving ALONE is NEITHER hopeful, fun, or bittersweet. It's just fucking SAD!

-It's OK for the Audience To Guess the Ending: I think the biggest thing this decade is creators being obsessed with audiences not being able to guess how the story ends. Here's a fucking shocker for those creators: IF NO ONE CAN GUESS THE ENDING THEN YOU HAVEN'T SET UP THE STORY WELL! You can make an audience member go "hold up, is this ending going to happen?" And have that uncertainty, but if no one saw how your story would end (with the exception of mysteries) then you didn't set up the story in a cohesive enough manner.

-Once a Story Is Done, It Should be Done; I can slightly understand killing off a main character to prevent some other outside parties from putting pressure to make "more" even when the story is done. However, this is the point of standing your ground. You are the owner, it is your property, and you have the right to make the decision to say "No, I ended that story in a satisfying way. Yes, the characters are still alive but their time is over." Also, on a side note with that, make sure that if you ever sign your creative work to someone to help distribute, you make sure the contract says nothing about them owning the franchise and continuing it with or without your support.

- Romance Should Make People Happy; If your story is going to have a romance, please don't always make it tragic. Sometimes a tragic romance is beautiful and bittersweet. But when you already have characters who are damaged, bruised, touch starved, and need somebody to love and hold them, why are you making it extra tragic? Why are you making these characters so desperate for real happiness, then not giving it to them? That's dissatisfying, it's heart-wrenching in the worst of ways, and it makes audience's not want to go back and watch it again. Seriously, it hurts too much to watch. What a fucking concept: People don't like to constantly be sucker punched in the heart with endless suffering.

- Don't Create Unrealistic Expectations; These companies are trying so hard to keep their franchise a secret the day of the release; that I'm fine with. What I'm not fine with are what everyone else is forced to say to comply with said policy. They leave audience members with non-answers that give way to wild speculation, crazy different theories, and ultimately leads to everyone's disappointment. You don't want to reveal? Then simply say "I can't tell you." Or "I unfortunately can't talk about that, yet."

- Don't Fanservice; This goes in hand with the plot. If you have a multiple part series, you need to stick with your plan no matter what happens. Sometimes fans want a lot out of a story, which can be both a great and terrible thing. It shows interest in the project, but it also puts pressure on the creator to advance the plot lines the audience wants, and that could simply be too much for both the story and the creator. So stick with your gut, and only change a character or story arc if YOU decide that it's better that way.

These are all not necessarily for all three of them at the same time. Some are for two, some just for one, and some for all. Either way, they are things I have learned from being in these fandoms, spending so much time on each of them, and being brutally disappointed for varying reasons. 2019 has kicked my ass when it comes to fandoms and ships.

If anyone has any more they wish to add, feel free to give it a reblog with your own additions. I look forward to reading them.
