So, I just watched “And the Disenchanted Forest” again, and I’m sorry, but there is absolutely no way you can convince me there is not at least one thread on the Loom of Fate in which Jacob Stone decides magic ain’t that bad, becomes the ambassador for the trees, turns into a grubby chaotic bisexual eco-terrorist protecting the magical ecosystem with the elemental earth magic gifted to him by the Grandfather Tree, and basically becomes a male version of Poison Ivy The Way She Should Be (i.e., a dirty gardener in cargo pants and plaid instead of being all clean and spiffy in a skintight, leafy one-piece bathing suit).

And because he is a Huge Fucking Nerd™, he gets both arms tattooed with flowering vines (in magic ink, too, so the flowers open/close and the vines lose/grow leaves depending on the season) to use as his focus since wands are way overrated, and adopts the alter ego Briar Moss.

Stark Tower has literally got the best wifi in the whole of New York and Tony makes it free as well so sometimes he’ll walk out of the ground floor and just see like a dozen or so people, usually kids, just sat on the doorstep on their phones or laptops and like it’s such a little thing to do but yknow. He’s Ironman. Give the kids some damn fast wifi.

The New Guardian (Part 1; Librarian!Ezekiel)

Ezekiel remembered the day he became the librarian. He was maybe, fourteen or fifteen. He remembered the day he was assigned his first guardian. Eve was kind-hearted and practically his mum.

He also remembered the day she died. Stabbed by Dulaque as they tried to mend the Loom of time. He remembered mourning for days.

Ezekiel sat at a desk in the Library, when a man with a plaid shirt came strolling in with a white envelope and Charlene in tow. She seemed flustered with this man. Ezekiel stood, grumbling.

Already he had a new guardian? Wasn’t he allowed some time to mourn his old one?

“It seems you have a new guardian,” Charlene said, sounding unnamused.

“We just lost Eve,” Ezekiel shouted, yelling up to the ceiling. “You couldn’t wait?”

“What’s he doing?”  the man asked, turning to Charlene.

“Talking to the Library,” she answered.

“Why?” he asked.

“Because I’m upset I’m stuck with you until one of us dies. Most likely me, but I went ten years with my former Guardian. It’ll probably be you before me.” Ezekiel says. “What kind of training have you had?”

“Training?” the guy asked, southern accent coming through in his speech.

“Like fighting training. Have you had any?” Ezekiel was becoming annoyed. Not to mention he wasn’t a fan of the accent, either.

“Uh... i mean, I get into bar brawls a lot. But I always come up on top.”

Ezekiel rolled his eyes. “Right, well, I’ve got work to do.”

“I’m Jacob, by the way,” the man said, ignoring Ezekiel’s last statement.

Ezekiel stared at him for a moment before grabbing his books and scampering off to his office.

Jacob sighed and looked at Charlene. “Get use to the layout of the place. He’ll come find you for a mission. or if he wants to talk.”

Jacob nodded and looked around as he wandered off to get use to the place that would be his new home. He was glad to be out of Oklahoma. away from his dad.

Ezekiel found Jacob studying in the Annex. Jenkins seemed to enjoy the company, though it was silent. The southerner seemed to be enjoying the book.

“What are you reading?” Ezekiel asked, sitting down across from Jacob. What was the harm in getting to know his new Guardian.

“Stephen Hawking’s last work,” Jacob said, looking up at the Librarian. “‘Soft Hair on Black Holes.”

Ezekiel stared at him, eyebrows raised. “Uh...”

“You haven’t read it?” Jacob asked, sounding astounded.

“Well, I haven’t had the time to. I’m always off finding some artifact, or trying to save the world. I really don’t have time for reading,” Ezekiel shrugged.

“Well, when you do get the chance to read it, it’s a great read and I think you’d enjoy it.”

“I’m probably too dumb to understand it,” Ezekiel said, shrugging a bit.

“You’re the librarian,” Jacob said, smiling and looking up at him in the eyes. “Give yourself some credit.”

Ezekiel’s cheeks heat up slightly. “Well, I’m not a strong reader. Dyslexia.”

“Well, I can help you.”

The clippings book freaked out besides them.

“Duty calls,” Ezekiel said, standing. “Maybe later.”

Little Things (Jazekiel)

There are little things everyone does. These are the things you pick up on your significant other.

Jacob notices a lot about Ezekiel. His small habits. His big ones. His kinda small ones. Jacob loves these things about Ezekiel. He finds them cute.

His favorite is all the places Ezekiel has to hide throughout the Library. Slowly, Jacob had been introduced to each of them. Jacob felt honored. Ezekiel was slowly opening up to him and being in a relationship.

Jacob knew there was one place that Ezekiel wasn’t showing him, and he respected that. His boyfriend was private. When he wanted to show him, he’d be there to support him.

Another thing that Jacob loved about Ezekiel was the way he carried himself. He carried himself with so much confidence and respect. He really admired that.

Jacob himself could never carry himself like that; he’s never been able to. He’s carried himself highly, but not with confidence or respect.

Ezekiel loved many things about Jacob. Ezekiel loved everything about Jacob, actually.

He loved his singing. He loved his hair. His weird American accent. There was nothing that he hated about Jacob.

Well, maybe there was one little thing he hated. He hated the way he could spew out poetry and talk about it like it was his job. Yeah, sure it was his job. His job was to be smart, but Ezekiel hated that he would do it in the middle of thier dates.

But secretly he liked it.

Little things make the world go round. Just a little at a time. Because they’re little.

The Library’s New Accountant

Remember in “And the Fangs of Death” when Charlene nearly flips when Eve tells her that Cassandra’s doing the accounting?

Well, now I wonder if Jacob took over for her, since he was in charge of the company’s finances when he still worked for his father. I can absolutely see him sitting in Charlene’s old office with those enormous ledgers, wearing his glasses because holy hell, she’s got some funky handwriting, making notes on a legal pad next to him as Cassandra pouts and mutters about how she had it under control, honestly. (She didn’t. Not at all.) Charlene appears in the mirror every now and again to answer questions for him, and every time they go on a mission, Jacob collects all their receipts. And when Flynn makes one of his sporadic visits, Jacob drags him to the office by his ascot, telling him he better hand over those damn receipts because he’s getting a damn headache trying to figure out all of Flynn’s expenditures without them. And when Flynn leaves again, Jacob angrily shouts after him, “Keep your fucking receipts, Carsen!”

Charlene’s almost in tears when she sees Flynn sulk in and hand over a little Ziploc baggie full of receipts to Jacob, she’s so proud of him, what a good boy.

Rainy Days

Ezekiel loved the rain. He loved to curl up by the window with a mug of tea and watch the rain fall. It was melodic and hypnotic. He could sit like that for hours and never get bored.

Jacob loved rainy days. It meant he didn’t have to show up to the rig. It also meant he could play around in the rain and get as dirty as he wanted. He loved splashing in the rain. Even as an adult. He never got tired of rolling around when the sky was crying.

Ezekiel curled up in the reading room on the bay window. He had a nice fluffy blanket, one of Jake’s sweaters (that he didn’t know Ezekiel had) and his mug of camomile tea. He watched the rain fall. It lulled him into a sense of relaxation.

“Zeke.” He was broken out of his daze when Jake came into the room, eyes bright and twinkling with glee and amazement.

“Yeah, mate?” Ezekiel looked up at the southerner.

“Come out in the rain with me.”

An eyebrow raise. “Excuse me?”

“Come play in the rain with me.”

Ezekiel let his eyes scan over the man in front of him. He seemed to already be soaked and mud covered. He shook his head.

“I’m good, mate. It’s cold out there and I’m comfortable right where I am.”

Jacob pouted and let his eyes drop.

“How’d I let you talk me into this again?” Ezekiel asked as he wrapped his arms around himself. He shivered violently, clutching his arms to his chest.

His hair was pressed against his face and he looked miserable and wet and cold.

“Come on, Ezekiel. Aren’t you having fun?” Jacob asked.

Ezekiel shot him a glare that could’ve melted the sun.

“It’s wet, and I’m wet, and it’s cold and I’m cold. None of those are fun.” He grumbled at Jacob. “And now I’m covered in dirt and mud.”

“I’m sorry, darlin’. Let’ go inside and we can fix that.”

Later, Ezekiel was curled up to Jacob in another one of his hoodies, blankets and pillows. Both men were showered and in the process of warming up together. There’s another thing they enjoyed about rainy days.
