Leonid Pasternak (Ukrainian, 1862–1945) - The Torments of Creative Work
I like how in Night Watch Vimes has to face his younger self and has the universal experience of cringing at his younger self but realizes you need to start somewhere. You start out naive and ignorant then life bites you in the ass and you learn, unless you're Vetinari then you've always been cool.
I once dreamt of several detective stories. Like, saw them in my dreams at night. I don’t know if they were good or bad, but there were actual detective plots and plot twists. And I don’t remember them entirely. Only some details.
While dreaming, I was watching them like a movie, but thinking that I was reading them in some book. I wondered how I had gotten through it so fast, and only then I realised that it was no book, but something my brain had made up. Then I thought that I should write them down, and maybe after some work they’ll make sense as actual detective stories. But I woke up, and I didn’t remember practically anything. Not even the key plot points.
I’ve never seen Star Trek, but I love this poetry and I agree that this gentleman doesn’t deserve being treated so meanly. It must’ve been pretty difficult to incorporate all these complex words and terms into the rhythm of a poem, and that’s a nice and original way to express affection. I’d love to listen to the way he reads it, too (partly because I have doubts about pronouncing half of these words even with the help of the rhythmic clues). (also I saw this thread on Pinterest first and I’m rather glad to see it appear on my own Tumblr dashboard without any particular reason (again, I’m not a Star Trek fan))
I actually… love this
No one is doing it like Sybil Ramkin. She's one of the most rich and powerful women in the city. She married a skrunkly little commoner nightwatchman. She raises dragons in her free time. She's canonically both tall and fat. She's a fierce advocate for the oppressed. She created a free hospital. She can fuck you up. She's childhood friends with the tyrant of the city. She is compared to empires and dreadnoughts. Icon.
And everyone who reads this, too
I tried to scroll past this. I really did
"it's all in your head" correct! unfortunately I am also in there
This photo is so him. He was my author. He was my friend. Like all of you, I miss him everyday. Thank you for keeping the ripples going.
