I love MDZS bc I went into it for an angsty gay romance—which I got—but I was wholly unprepared for these books to have the vibes of an unhinged necromantic episode of the Magic School Bus. Just a demonic gay freak and his bf enthusiastically chaperoning a bunch of kids who are way out of their depth on a field trip to hunt ghosts and walking corpses, shoving them headfirst into insane nightmare-fuel as a learning experience. It’s fantastic idk why this isn’t the main selling point for the series
Chiron and Mr D: now that you've trained at camp for one (1) week it's time for you to embark on a quest to retrieve Zeus' lightning bolt and stop all out war from breaking out amongst the Gods.
Percy: are you aware that i am twelve years old
Chiron and Mr D: this is your dad's will
Percy: is he aware that i am twelve years old

I'm sorry, but this is an extremely funny author cameo to me. He doesn't say anything and no one even acknowledges he's there. Who is he? Another teacher? A Yancy board member? Who knows, but he's here! I'm obsessed.

so finished reading Margaret Rogerson's "Sorcery of Thorns" and I need to get them out. First off I enjoyed this book the main character Elisabeth was interesting and her growth was fun to watch, the love interest Nathaniel was a smart-ass and that was just really funny to me but the blurb (??is that how you spell the summary of the back idk but that thing) called him her "sworn enemy" which was just ?no? she was confused and wary towards him due to preconceived ideas about sorcery but he was hardly an enemy in her mind so bit misleading, there were a lot of moments of humour (mostly from Nathaniel by being a smart-ass but other characters definitely also contributed as well)
Overall, a fun read and would recommend to others
(two sections that I made me giggle)
Percy @ Annabeth: I picked you because I’m not sure we’d ever be friends
