Hey everyone, I just wanted to share this in case you were as touched by Adam Driver's performance as I was. Someone from r/starwarsleaks on Reddit started a fundraiser for Adam Driver's non-profit Arts in the Armed Forces. It's meant to honor Ben Solo's legacy and Adam Driver's incredible portrayal of Kylo/Ben.

Here's the fundraiser mission statement :

"The latest Star Wars trilogy has been divisive among the fandom. Regardless of that, it would not be an exaggeration to say most fans agree Adam Driver's portrayal of Kylo Ren/Ben Solo has been one of the greatest things to ever happen in the last three movies of the saga. As a way of showing gratitude and appreciation for his hard work, we at /r/starwarsleaks have decided to set up this fundraiser. We know how passionate Adam is about AITAF and hope this feels like a "thank you" hug to him. "

I will never be able to express just how much Kylo/Ben meant to me. I've never been so invested in a fictional character and my brain is currently incapable of recognizing that he wasn't real... I'm going through true grief as I know so many of us are. Ben Solo deserved so much more. I hope Adam sees this fundraiser and understands what an impact he has had on so many people. I just thought this was a beautiful idea and it made me feel really good to donate. I'll never forget Ben, he will always live in our hearts 💜

I kept defending them. Saying they wouldn't do a dirty, that SW isn't GOT, that we should trust and have faith in their writing and in their process, that they were better writers than D&D.

They played me...a lot of us...for fools.

I'm sorry for having contributed to a false sense of hope. I just wanted to lift everyone's spirits up because I was so naive.

Now I wonder if the one feeding the leaks was a disgruntled LF employee who hated TROS and leaked it to warn the fans.

Maybe I should have heeded that warning, but I didn't want to believe it because it sounded so horrendously bad.

Unfortunately, it was a nightmare of reddit threads come to life.

I was a fool. A damned fool.

I'm sorry guys. I know a lot of you are looking to me for a glimmer of positivity, but please allow me to grieve for characters I so loved, for a franchise I grew up with. I will mainly be in twitter for now, tweeting out my thoughts there until this pain has turned into a dull ache, after I get past the other stages of grief to reach acceptance. I'll get there eventually. And hopefully be inspired to pick up the pen and write and draw again.

Or maybe because you just happen to like another character more. Why does race constantly need to be brought up to attack someone’s preference of character/storyline?

why would you bring race to a completely unrelated matter? and you’re only on episode two and you’re saying already that lancelot & nimue are the superior ship even when you haven’t gotten the chance to see arthur and nimue develop their relationship? damn. maybe you ARE racist.

I got excited by the possibility of Nimue and Lancelot becoming romantically involved after watching just the first episode. Like I said in the original post, I enjoy the enemies to lovers trope and it seems to me like that’s what’s being set up to happen. I love trying to predict the plot of shows and movies and me shipping them is just one of those predictions. I didn’t realize people were being called racist for shipping them until I was scrolling through related tags and my post was a response to that.

I try my hardest to be an anti-racist but I know I still have a more to learn since I’m not a POC. It’s possible I ship Nimue with Lacelot instead of Arther because of subconscious racism and I’ll be mindful of that as I continue to watch the show. It’s my belief though that arguments about ships detract from more important issues POC deal with daily. As my original post said, multiple POVs can coexist in fandoms as long as those opinions aren’t actively hurting or oppressing people.
