Designer Drills Holes into Quarters, Turns Them into Rings

Designer Nicholas Heckaman of The Ring Tree meticulously handcrafts detailed rings out of US coins. The Gainesville, Florida-based designer first discovered his skill when he was looking for the perfect ring to propose to his girlfriend with. He managed to create a special engagement ring out of a silver coin with a hammer and “a lot of patience.”

We are deeply saddened to learn that TEDxMidAtlantic speaker Sam Berns passed away Friday night at age 17. Sam had progeria, a rare rapid aging disease that affects approximately one out of four to eight million children.
Above, moments from Sam’s TEDxMidAtlantic talk, in which he shares his advice for living happily, no matter the challenges. Sam’s talk displays his great courage, infectious positivity, and wisdom beyond his years. He will be missed.

Hi. I live in Ecuador South America. Its been 7 years nos that we are under a government that define itself as twenty first century socialism. One of the more radical changes had been in education after the dark liberal times we lived. Now 3th level education is free, competing with best private universities here. Our scholarships are incredible, for example, the only requirement to have a full scholarship in one of the best universities in the world is to have a letter of being accepted there (even to a 4th level; Harvard, Yale, Oxford included). Día difícil.
Regresaba del trabajo a la casa. Había tenido un día difícil. En la ecovia, no lo veía, pero escuchaba a un niño pequeñito que no paraba de llorar. Un momento después supe que lo habían abandonado. Pasaron algunas paradas con su llanto que alguien de la ecovia entró y se lo llevó. No dejo de pensar el el y su futuro. Desde entonces ya no he tenido días difíciles.
