Tlaloc (dios mexica de la lluvia y del relámpago), es uno de los dioses mexicas de la tierra, conocido por su facultad para dominar el agua y proveer el también llamado licor de la tierra que contribuía al crecimiento de los cultivos de maíz.

Para los aztecas este dios era el rey de los fenómenos atmosféricos y el espíritu de las montañas, así que su poder era digno de grandes honores y sacrificios tanto de animales como de seres humanos pues la comunidad dependía del buen desempeño de estos para la prosperidad de su agricultura.

Además se cuenta que Tláloc es el esposo de la diosa Chalchiuhtlicue a quien se reconoce como deidad del agua y del amor, la belleza y las aguas de ríos, lagos, tormentas, mares, protectora de los navegantes y patrona del bautismo.

Tláloc y Chalchiuhtlicue tuvieron muchos hijos a quienes se les llamaba tlalocas, que son las nubes del cielo.
