“your inability to adhere to the three drink limit i imposed says otherwise” he mutters snarkily, diverting his gaze to the picturesque view below. he can dish it but very much cannot take the way she looks at him after. growing up he’d always been the golden child, leaving it to his twin to pull some heinous stunt to evoke his parent’s ire and make anything he did seem like mere child’s play in comparison. it’s made him increasingly resistant to criticism over the years. however, his ability to pass judgement holds strong. while fiona has seemingly opened herself up to the world beyond michelin stars and valets he only sinks further into it. becoming more and more like his parents by the day. lia was supposed to be his redemption. a girl, completely unlike the one’s he’d spent his life around. she didn’t grow up in seersucker skirts, with nannies, and a trust fund she’ll blow through by the time she’s 30. and he thought that’s part of what he loved about her.

“i’m not asking you to be perfect, just mindful. regardless of how far you’ve come or how well you carry yourself people take one small thing and run with it. i’m just looking out for you, sweetheart” the term of endearment he uses whenever he’s trying to reason with her. and perhaps the rationale behind his request isn’t completely unselfish, but he does know how vicious the big shots can be, doesn’t want to see her fall victim to the ruthless rumor mill.

it’s growing more apparent to him that this is an issue that won’t be solved in just one night (if ever). and the secondhand smoke, usually something that doesn’t bother him in the slightest, keeps wafting past his nostrils, aggravating him further. so he gets to his feet, signaling a retreat. “a friend of mine that was at the table tonight mentioned to me that she’d want to have you dress her for an event she has coming up…i’ll put you in contact with her tomorrow.” his tone is semi-detached as he leans against the railing, eyes cast on the toronto skyline. and maybe it’s the scotch on the brain that triggers the absentminded revelation that he was in the company of more than just his colleagues tonight, but he breezes past that minor detail, feeling the makings of a migraine beginning to thrum against his skull. “i’m going to bed, are you coming?”

“I think you forgot I’m not a little thing who drinks wine coolers for fun at the parties. I never have been, but I’m also aware of myself and what I’m doing Declan,” their lives were similar in many ways, Lia having relished in the finer things in life for most of her life. But she fell back down the ladder even faster than her parents climbed it. She discovered the darker side of life, sneaking out at 1am to go hang out with the drug dealers and teen alcoholics. Signing up for websites to make money for herself in less then safe ways, all while spiraling inside her own head. But Declan was different, raised entirely surrounded by the upper class and never straying from their values and morals. Lia had always wanted to be a part of it, to never have to worry about things, but as time went on she was questioning more and more.

“Are you looking out for me or yourself? I can handle what’s been thrown my ways, lord knows more than one rumor has flown around about me. No matter what tier of life you are on people are gonna do whatever they can to bring you down and make you look worse than them, and it’s how you handle yourself and the people closest to you having your back when push comes to shove,” she knows he has her best interest at heart, but she also doesn’t like to be protected and coddled. Lia would always rather handle her own problems, no matter how big or small, and deal with the consequences afterwards. But she appreciated his attempts none the less, but she was finally getting fed up with everything.

Heaving a sigh before she took an inhale of her blunt, her gaze taking in the skyline around her. And trying to focus on something besides her annoyance towards the male in front of her. Everything about the night finally coming to a head, and her mouth working faster than her brain as he spoke. “I thought it was just you and your colleagues? You know a couple of the guys?” Rolling her eyes, tapping the ash off the top and watching it fall apart in the glass ashtray on the table. “Send it to my assistant I have to be in the office at 5, which means I probably should take you up on that offer,” Taking a final drag of her blunt and putting it out, “this isn’t over however,”

Between his sister coming back around again, and his mother downing more bottles than he could count life had been a blur the past couple of months for Matias. Last year at this time he had met Mckenzi the girl having quickly became a soft spot in his dark world. But it was just a fling, or at least that’s what he told himself when he regrettably cut her out. She was to pure to let into his secrets, his mind getting controlled by the substances slowky but surely. The people he began to allow into his life, whether it was business or pleasure, weren’t good people to be around, and he wasn’t going to expose her to that lifestyle.

But he couldn’t help himself when he spotted her in the large crowd at the shopping center. His sneaker clad feet almost instinctively dragging himself in her direction. He knew better, he had just sort of up and left her, not really giving her the explanation she wanted or deserved. And yet, the blonde hair and electric blue eyes were drawing him in just like the first time. A smirk falling to his lips once he caught her gaze, “Looking as fine as ever kenz,” his tone dripping with flirtation as always, sending a wink her way.

to some extent, though he’d never completely admit it, angel loves hearing himself talk. so the fact that she humors him, acts even the least bit interested in his tales of an inner-city hippie make him like her, just that much more. she didn’t yet fully embody the pompous air that surrounds them, it doesn’t emanate from her and stink up the room like that old lady white diamond perfume that doesn’t come out of this shirt post-shift no matter how many times he runs it through the wash. unlike her man, who in his opinion was too far gone, there was something about her that was still real.

“course not” he chuckles, suspects that she’s been cute all her life. one of those girls that somehow evades the awkward pre-pubescent phase. but he’d be lying if he said he wouldn’t get a kick out of a picture with braces, or dorky glasses, or her rocking a pair of brightly colored skinny jeans with converse all the way up to the knees. but maybe they’d save the embarrassing photo exchange for the next time her boyfriend fiancé stands her up at his own restaurant.

his grin grows twice the size as her story continues, and he tries to paint the picture for himself, poofy princess dress and all. has only ever seen that kind of thing on tv, where girls get dressed up and basically compete to be the prettiest. “oooh, not the carebears” he doesn’t try to the stifle the laugh that bursts as her story concludes, even claps a little, surprised at the commitment. “well at least you kept it going. my ass would’ve been off the stage asap. but i think it’s cool you used to tumble. i’ve always wanted to know how–could probably use it in some of my dances and shit. …think you could–?” before he can get the words out the air changes, dishes clank faster, conversations lull, eyes point in a certain direction. he looks up to see him approaching, cutting their fun short, bringing him back to reality–just a little.

“sweetheart–” the boss man greets his lady divine, placing a chaste kiss against her cheek. “my meeting with the gentlemen that own the space on king street ran late, but we’re in talks to break ground for a separate location by june” his breath smells like whiskey, they went out for drinks after in celebration but he neglects that minor tidbit. it’s just then that he just barely acknowledges angel’s presence, sends a dismissive glare in his direction, and as quickly as he appeared, angel waves a small goodbye to miss amelia.

image

A small part of Amelia had missed this, just a light hearted conversation and laughs. No mention of business or wealth, instead swapping childhood stories. It was refreshing, a change of pace from what she had become accustomed to. And watching Angel talk so animated, not caring how he looked or sounded, she missed it even more. For a while she was used to that, just being open and honest. Never worrying about what people thought or how they reacted to what she had to say. Lia was always the girl who spoke first, and thought second, it was her norm. But after a few years in the big leagues, she had lost her touch and became more self aware of her words.

“It would’ve been ridiculous, I learned the ways of curling irons and straighteners at a young age. Also learned straighteners didn’t work on sexuality at a quick age as well,” she joked, and a small laugh bubbled from her. But the fashion choices she made didn’t get all to grand until middle school, and even then they weren’t exactly the fashion trends of the time but at least she was matching the colors finally.

A grimace appeared on her face as she laughed, the image clear as day in her head. Lia was pretty positive her mom had a video somewhere of the tragic event, but she also couldn’t remember the last time she spoke to her mom. “It was,” a pause as the thought of the right adjective. “Embarrassing, but also taught me at a young age that I was able to just push through I guess,” Nodding along with the his statement, “I would-“ began to leave her lips before she felt the atmosphere thicken around her. The dinging of dishes being cleared faster, a slight squeaking from the cleaning rags on the glasses at the bar, and a sigh from her lips as her conversation was ended and the explanation she’s heard over and over ready to hit her ears.

A soft smile on her lips as he pecked her cheek, turning her attention from the man in front of her and turning towards the man on her side. “I’m glad you guys have finally figured that plan out, it seemed like it was never ending. Hopefully the blueprints and planning will go smoothly,” ignoring the notes of whiskey hitting her senses, and trying to relax into his presence. The wannabe heiress in Lia coming out to play once more, and only a flicker in her stature as Angel walked away from the couple.

It seemed even after all this time, Lia was still more invested in making a good impression. Making it to places on time, even sometimes a lil earlier than she should. Made sure she looked like a million bucks, between the dresses and heels, and most certainly with the different gemstones that lined her neck and wrists. And yet, she still found herself waiting more times than not for a dirty blonde head to show up. A smile adorning both their faces once he did, and she always forgot why she was upset or that she had been forced to wait for however long.

And it didn’t bother her to much to wait, her wandering eyes and all.

Lia was used to having eyes on her, ever since she was a little kid. She knew how to capture the attention she so desperately craved, and she was good at keeping it. It was almost like she could feel it, the different gazes from different people in the room. The jealousy coming from the girls, an occasional smirk and a smile sent their way as she sipped her drink. Not that there was much to be jealous of, she was alone at the bar waiting for her knight in shining armor. But it was getting more and more frustrating for her, the waiting, and the games. Never knowing when he would show up, nor for how long. She was almost to her breaking point, but something kept her coming back despite wanting to tell Declan to fuck off.

Her eyes had been training to the bartender every so often, every time she found herself at the bar, she’d be stealing glances.

“Ironically, boss man himself doesn’t like to be kept waiting,” a small chuckle, almost breathlessly, left her lips. “I’m beginning to think it may be me,” a small pout forming as she looked up at him through her lashes. The alcohol over the past couple hours inhibiting her normal censorship of words, which was already limited.

It Seemed Even After All This Time, Lia Was Still More Invested In Making A Good Impression. Making It

@indiestars-rp

the words of his childhood best-friend turned roommate, ricky rye with the wonky eye, ring in his ears not to “goof this one up” as he stands stiff behind the marble countertop this place tries to pass off as a bar.  he’s one of the line cooks, and the one that landed him the job at this fancy schmancy restaurant when the last bartender neglected to return after a roadtrip to saskatchewan  but of all the temporary jobs he’s held  over the years, he’s never had one where he had to address every customer strictly as “sir” or “ma’dam”, or put on a dress shirt and tie just to serve alcohol. and fuck what you heard, most rich people tip like shit.

still, the job has one perk.

all night he’s been stealing glances of the doe-eyed beauty from the opposite end of the bar, certain that the boss man would be in any minute now to ward off any wandering eyes, lay claim to her with a kiss on the cheek and a pompous glare thrown strategically in the direction of the help. a subtle reminder to all the little people, yet again, of why he truly was a master of the universe.

but as minutes turn to hours he grows a little bolder. until finally, when her glass needs refilling, he tells tamara that he’s got it this time.

“boss man must be running late” he offers nonchalantly as he goes to mix another martini, and wonders deep down what in the world could be important enough to keep a girl like this waiting.

It was an unfortunate time for Lia, her tire getting a flat on the way to school. Making her free period null and void in her mind. Her only hope to make it worth it, that the drama room was empty and perhaps she could steal a couple pulls from her pen. A new habit she had picked up as things in her house started to turn to disarray. But the distinct sound of a beer cracking however made her all to aware of the other presence in the room. Her heels clicking slightly as she came around the corner, only to be met with the blue eyed male. A small smirk crossing her red lips with a chuckle, “Who am I to rat on you, you keep my secrets Ill keep yours,”

It Was An Unfortunate Time For Lia, Her Tire Getting A Flat On The Way To School. Making Her Free Period

“Oh shit,” Luke called out as the beer exploded in his hand. It wasn’t unlike Luke to be using his free period to hide out in the drama rehearsal room with a few of his boys before his next class, but in effort to kill his hangover from the night before, he snuck a beer real quick, hoping to get out before first block. That was util the foot steps began approaching him. He’d seen the raven-haired girl around campus, maybe in homeroom? “I’ll give you one if you promise not to rat me out.” @indiestars-rp

You know it. I see the way you look at me and I know, you know. As hard as you’ve tried to stamp it out and ignore it, I have tried harder! I have tried harder than you to be quiet and to forget it and to not bother my family with my problems. But I can’t try anymore because it hurts. I don’t want to be going through this but I am. Kai hadn’t moved from his place in front of the mirror, his gaze never moving from his reflection. If anyone walked by they’d think he was possessed, like he was just looking through himself. The cuts and bruises from the accident still present, but faded slightly as days passed. And the memories still as vivid as the day it happened, every time he closes his eyes he saw the bright blue and red lights, the sound of the sirens blaring in his ears, and the image of his mother lifeless in front of him.

“You think I give a fuck about appearances? You think I can get up and speak about her? Like I don’t think about her every second of everyday, and the worst part is I can’t even remember the good things! I can’t remember the love she showed us, or the jokes she make, or anything besides seeing her laying there,”

“None of you know what I went through, father or Nate haven’t even asked me a question about it or checked to see how I’m doing. We’re all mourning, we’re all crushed by the fact momma is gone. But none of you were there, none of you had to see it or experience what we did. And god, it shouldn’t fucking be her who’s gone. It’s not like anyone would’ve missed me anyway,” he spoke, finally turning from the mirror and facing his sister. His eyes rimmed with tears, before walking right past her, head held high and taking his place in line with his family.

Kai Hadn’t Moved From His Place In Front Of The Mirror, His Gaze Never Moving From His Reflection.

“You know it’s Mama’s wishes that you speak.” Vanessa approached, clad in an all black lace gown that exposed skin both on her mid-drift and her thighs, crossing her arms as she approached her brother. You couldn’t tell from Vanessa’s appearance, but the moment was somber as ever. Everyone surrounding them in all black, paying their respects, and getting unnecessarily close to hugging each of the Montgomery siblings.

Vanessa looked over the crowd, eyes locking with their father’s right away. There were tears his eyes, bit no resemblance of pain. No droopy eyes, sleepless nights, or weightless heart to match. Just a stern nod and back to shaking hands the eldest Montgomery went. “I get it you’re in the middle of the, God forgive my language, fuck the world and everyone in it mood but right now you need to be a Montgomery. You already know what’s waiting at home if we don’t perform. So play your fucking sweet, artistic dreamer role and be miserable after. People are watching.”
