âMaybe not for you,â Luke replied matter of factly. He let his free hand find its way to her thigh, comfortability giving it a bit of a squeeze. Always one to press his luck once he got enough time with a girl. He wasnât much of a pick bunny guy, but that didnât mean he wasnât temptedââhell look who Luke was withââbut it never went past fun temptation at least thatâs what his Hounds and the greater public knew anymore. âI pay for a bit ofâŠÂ discretion with my guy. You understand.â Luke turned to look directly at Lia, hoping she would get that discretion needed to extend to this as well. âDirty little secret, eh?â he chuckled more to himself than to Lia. He pulled into his apartment complex, cutting the engine.Â
âI think it would depend on who you ask,â a simple shrug, relaxing into the seat a little more and looking over at him, âIâve gotten a rave review one or twice,â laughing airily, almost like a small sigh. Her gaze finding his as he turned towards her, the look in his eyes telling her this this was a secret. That it was to stay between the two of them, and something told her it would be like that for a while. âI understand wanting to keep up appearances. I have my own discretions, you donât have to worry about me,â making sure she kept his gaze as she spoke. Lia wanted to be sure he could trust her, no matter what secrets came her way. âWe all have one or two, im sure time will reveal more as we go,â Turning away from him only when she felt the cut of the engine, and looking to see where they were.Â

âNervous.â Vanessa repeated, allowing herself to try and gauge where Dallas was at. She paused, taking a moment to be a little more thoughtful in her comments, one of the notable things people differed from Vanessa and her more impulsive classmates. âI canât imagine youâd be nervous, the entire town practically has your back and support, but Iâm sure that kind of pressure can be intenseâŠâ Â
And it was that small chuckle that sent Vanessaâs eyes fluttering. Everything about exuded confidence from his laughter, the base in his voice, the relaxation in his walkâânot that she spent time watching him or anything. Maybe day dreaming about whatâd she say if he bumped into her, asked her the time of day, or something caused their hands to brush against each other. Of course nothing that sheâd say out loud, she had enough friends with eyes on Dallas that she knew sheâd never win, so instead, Vanessa would milk this for all she had or (as she assumes will happen) until he got bored of her.
Vanessaâs attention perked, finally matching Dallasâ hues. Her bright hazel eyes looking up to try and force herself not to read too much into such a simple question. âUm, I hadnât planned on it?â He was probably just curious. Most people go to the games anyway; the team was the townâs glory after all. Plus her friends usually ditched her after the games for personal time with players, and nothing looked worse than being alone on a Friday night around Guelph. Dallas probably didnât care if she would one way or another, just making conversation. âProbably not. I heard it was sold out already,â she added, trying to sound indifferent about it.Â
Dallas watched the gears turn in her head, an amused smile lingering on his face. âYes nervous. Everyoneâs watching my every move when Iâm on the ice, expecting great things from me. Even on my off days, it gets draining sometimes,â he finished with a soft sigh, not sure why he was spilling his heart to her. Maybe it was the alcohol in his bloodstream, or simply because she brought something out in him that just made him comfortable. Either way he was grateful for it.
Dallas had noticed her more than once, the way her eyes twinkled when sheâd laugh at something her friends say. Or the little taps of her fingers and far off look in her coffee colored eyes. She wasnât one to be the center of attention, leaving her friends to go with who they may and Vanessa left behind. There was something enthralling about the girl willing to let everyone else shine around her, and he wanted more chances to get to know more about her.
There was a noticeable dimming in Dallasâ eyes as she spoke. A soft nod as she spoke, he had noticed her at few and far in between games. But he always played a little bit better knowing she was watching him, maybe trying to show off a little bit or maybe that comfortability he felt tonight, traveled to the ice. âI think I may know someone who could squeeze you a ticket,â he joked laughing lightly, âfor real, I want you to come, see us kick ass in the semi-finals,â

Her hand interlocked with Dallasâ as they moved through the crowd, her friends making whooping noises as they exited. Vanessaâs heart was racing, but she hid her emotions once the much taller boy was before her. If there was one thing about their town, it was that Mike Dallas was the hometown hero. He was the guy everyone talked about getting out of her and making it someday, that alone was intimidating. Vanessa was just the little dancer girl that followed behind her much more popular friends. So to her surprise to be alone with the guy that practically the entire block had her stomach doing flips, but ever the less she kept her signature smile bright and big keeping her cool.
âOh right, duh,â she giggled off, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear.
Once she put the drinking down, she realized they were still holding hands, his grip still tight on her own. She didnât know what he expected, but she didnât want to look like an idiot either. She had been praying on that bottle all night to land on Dallas and now that she was here, she didnât want to waste it being scared. She scooted over a little, minimizing the gap between the two. âIâm uh, Vanessa by the way,â she spoke, taking a drinking from her cup.Â
It wasnt often Dallas found himself pining after the same girl for a long time. Either finding a new object of his affection or simply just stopping the interaction. Often times it was the first, and didnt help the growing rumors surrounding the Hockey golden boy. But Vanessa was different, whether it was the way she held herself differently than all the girls around the halls. Or because she was drop dead gorgeous, and he knew that even with the makeup off she would still be the most beautiful girl in the room.
his hand gave her smaller one a light squeeze, his own nerves bubbling up to the surface. but he was used to hiding his emotions and pretending to just have everything under control, not much of a worry in the back of his mind.Â
he didnt care what the two did, if they even did anything. being alone with her presence was more than enough for him, the air around them was calm no longer being over powered by the loud music and voices. âMike but everyone calls me Dallas,â he spoke, his tone low but still holding a sense of confidence somehow.
